[00:00:14] Hey hey hey, welcome to the sports reverends podcast. My name is Dan. I'm joined with the coach my big brother coach Joel's coach around the world
[00:00:27] Top of the line
[00:00:28] Coach he's coach one of the greatest athletes out there. Yeah, that's right
[00:00:32] Myself just kidding. He's uh, he's done he did well with what he had to work with that's for sure
[00:00:38] But we're excited for another show today
[00:00:40] It's been a good couple of weeks in a row of producing some content with you guys
[00:00:45] Thank you so much for following us on all the socials and and coach
[00:00:49] Why don't you just share a little bit about what we are going to be talking about today?
[00:00:55] Lots of good stuff to talk about. We're gonna look at cars are quick hitters look at some
[00:01:03] Olympic basketball coming up in the summer. It's kind of weird me thinking it's Olympic time coming out of the corner
[00:01:08] But there it is
[00:01:11] as the art of
[00:01:13] posterization disappeared in the NBA
[00:01:15] talk about maybe one of our
[00:01:17] favorite dunks and go from there and then
[00:01:22] March Madness, that's the big topic who's going further Duke UNC
[00:01:27] Maybe talk a bit about the popularity of who's the men's versus the women's game has been a bit of chatter about
[00:01:33] The women's game over taking the men's is that true? I don't know we'll talk about it
[00:01:37] And then we're gonna close out with
[00:01:41] pressure
[00:01:42] And how we look at that in the sports and in the faith life, but why don't you start us off for their quick hitters?
[00:01:49] Alright, let's get into some quick hitter news
[00:01:52] Yukon Houston Purdue and
[00:01:56] UNC all our number one seeds in the NCAA men's tournaments
[00:02:03] Nick Williams my fantasy draft guy is
[00:02:06] Signing with the New York Jets hooking up with Aaron Rodgers with a one-year 15 million dollar contract
[00:02:12] Now here's something both of us can rejoice with Manchester United
[00:02:17] Finally done something great defeating Liverpool
[00:02:21] 4 to 3 shout out Mark Goring in the FA Cup quarter finals
[00:02:28] Yeah, finally Blake Snell signs a two-year 62 million dollar deal with the San Francisco Giants and
[00:02:35] Scotty Schaeffler becomes the first back-to-back players winner with a final 20 under
[00:02:42] Pretty pretty amazing stuff. I'm back on there. We go. All right commercial number one. Let's handle some business
[00:02:50] Urban hope is one of our
[00:02:52] So I guess not one of ours that is the mentorship program that is near and dear to our hearts
[00:02:57] We are excited to run this program in downtown Toronto in a
[00:03:02] marginalized neighborhood where we get to provide a safe place and
[00:03:06] mentorship skills and and other leadership skills for students and
[00:03:10] We actually allow some of the students that once they get to the right age
[00:03:13] And once they they reach to the certain levels to put those practices into
[00:03:18] Action and it's very cool to see all these students get together and and build each other up and build it into their
[00:03:25] Community as well. It's been very exciting to see many success stories of students who were once deemed not to ever go to college or
[00:03:33] even have a
[00:03:35] post-secondary education go through it and learn and grow and and get degrees and and we've have a
[00:03:41] More fingers number than fingers that I can count with of students that have
[00:03:46] Graduated now from even the university post-secondary college level and that's been very exciting for us
[00:03:53] We have even more coming forward with our basketball team. We have officially been given
[00:04:00] Court time coach is hearing about this
[00:04:02] Just now right now live. This is real deal
[00:04:06] We have court time and we have our own home gym that we will be using very excited of the basketball
[00:04:12] Program we are putting together now if you want to be a part of this journey as you've been joining us along with the
[00:04:17] Sports-Driven's journey if you want to sew into some of the students lives of the next generation
[00:04:23] There's a way you can do that
[00:04:25] You can go to the sports-driven's comms on sponsorships you can give
[00:04:28] And and help this program out every dollar that you give towards everyone hope goes into the programming alone
[00:04:34] So it's very very exciting things. So please consider helping and supporting that way and help these students
[00:04:40] That really don't have many opportunities
[00:04:43] Like have have an opportunity to learn grow and and have a better success in this life
[00:04:49] So thank you for your support and let's go
[00:04:53] All right. All right
[00:04:55] One of my favorite tournaments is March madness for sure a
[00:04:59] Very very close second is the Olympic turnings. I love watching this
[00:05:04] Even though the time zones are kind of funky sometimes
[00:05:07] You just stay up in your watch. So they just announced the
[00:05:13] Different pools different brackets or pools for the groups and in group a we have Australia
[00:05:21] Canada
[00:05:22] Yeah, the winner of the Olympic qualifying attorney in Spain the winner of the Olympic qualifying attorney in Greece
[00:05:29] And it's if you're a little confused. We got this down for you guys
[00:05:34] in the Spain tourney
[00:05:37] it is
[00:05:40] Spain Poland Finland Lebanon
[00:05:43] Angola and the Bahamas. So we think Spain will come out on top there in the Greek turning
[00:05:50] We have Slovenia Greece Dominican Republic New Zealand Croatia Egypt. So out of those six, who do you think is going to win this one Daniel?
[00:05:59] Probably oh that's tough. I don't know
[00:06:02] Yes, you honest there's Luca
[00:06:07] I'm not going against you know, I'm going with Luca Luca and the boys they have a I think a lot more talent surrounding Luca
[00:06:14] And it was pretty exciting watching all those guys
[00:06:17] Sorry what Slovenia you said right Slovenia watching them in the World Cup?
[00:06:22] Just like Luca Donchich. They all complained to the refs in an incredible fashion
[00:06:27] And I loved it. I love the passion and I loved all the in-game
[00:06:32] I'll say competitive nature. I'll say that
[00:06:34] All right, well, I'm going with I'm not putting anything against Greek the Freak is a small game like this
[00:06:40] I think he's just gonna dominate
[00:06:42] Especially with the fouls being called. So I pick in Greece
[00:06:46] Maybe his brother with the Nazis will get some burn. Who knows but so we're gonna either be Slovenia Greece Spain
[00:06:54] Australia and Canada
[00:06:55] So it's a really tough group there group of death right there in group B
[00:06:59] Pretty much group of death you have World Cup winners Germany
[00:07:03] France when Viana is gonna be leading that French team is gonna be awesome
[00:07:07] Japan and the winner of the Latvian qualifying tournament, which is Latvia Brazil Montenegro, Georgia
[00:07:14] The Philippines and Cameroon
[00:07:17] I will say of that group Latvia is ranked number eight in the world and
[00:07:22] Brazil number 12 whatever that means for you guys but I
[00:07:26] Think home corner vanished probably Latvia. I don't know
[00:07:30] The the Philippines they have I he's there's a Philippine American
[00:07:34] I believe he does qualify to play for the national team
[00:07:37] He's gonna be in the men's tournament that we're gonna talk about in a few moments here
[00:07:40] They caught the NCAA men's tournament and he's actually projected to be a top
[00:07:45] I believe I'll say a lottery pick for this coming I think it pretty good
[00:07:50] I would say this is a this is a YMCA turning the Philippines and win hands down
[00:07:55] but
[00:07:57] It's not guys got a little bigger here and in group C. We have Serbia
[00:08:04] We have so young and we have the United States
[00:08:09] along with the qualifier of the Puerto Rico attorney
[00:08:14] Which is
[00:08:16] Lithuania Italy Puerto Rico Mexico Ivory Coast and Bahrain
[00:08:22] So
[00:08:23] What it's worth again that the winnings ranked 10th and
[00:08:27] Italy's ranked 13th Puerto Rico is up with 16th. Jose Alvarez. I believe plays with that team
[00:08:32] so I
[00:08:34] Think that's a tough group as well
[00:08:36] I'm going Lithuania with Jonas and Demontus a bonus. Yeah that other guy
[00:08:41] I think I think the Lithuania comes out but they also match up well with
[00:08:46] Serbia with the bigs and the US has bigs
[00:08:49] Right and Joel MB defeats healthy
[00:08:52] That's that's that's the biggest like
[00:08:56] Tragedy of this tournament is Joel and B
[00:08:58] Joel and B should be playing either for France or or even Cameroon if he decided to play for Cameroon with with my boy Pascal
[00:09:06] They could be a nasty team too, but Joel and B chickened out and he's gonna you know, he's you know
[00:09:12] That's just sad. It's just sad honestly
[00:09:15] It is sad because you want somebody to be if you're gonna call yourself the man as he does in Philadelphia
[00:09:22] Come on. You want to be the guy who beats the US don't you like?
[00:09:26] 100% I don't know. I
[00:09:27] I would if it was me
[00:09:29] I would either I'd probably pray play for the place I grew up in if I grew up in France
[00:09:34] I'm playing for France
[00:09:36] 100% when we y'all know that BS insane combo. I'll be nasty
[00:09:40] And they have the kid the rookie from Washington
[00:09:45] Bilal
[00:09:47] Something Bilal something
[00:09:49] But he's what do you think they're decent team we hear from Canada as most of y'all know
[00:09:55] What do you think you have the chances?
[00:09:57] Let's say all the Canadians are playing that you can think of that you'd ever want Benedict
[00:10:01] Mather and Jamal Murray all the guys. How do they do?
[00:10:05] Wow, well, I think if all if everybody from Canada plays I
[00:10:14] Think they're they're gonna finish second in the group
[00:10:17] I
[00:10:20] Say second only because they haven't really played a ton together
[00:10:24] Right the Spanish team and Greek teams they tend to play a lot more together
[00:10:28] There's no that cohesion for the talents there for them to finish second in the group. I would say
[00:10:34] third place game
[00:10:36] Third place that's where they're gonna finish third place like probably brought you think they're metal
[00:10:42] I didn't think it the Bronx. Yeah, I think I think they finished fourth but in a metal game you never know
[00:10:48] You're tough. That's this you're this skeptic. That's why you're scared of it
[00:10:52] I'm saying they're meeting the US in the finals absolutely
[00:10:57] The dream alright and and you know, okay is the US backcourt better than Jamal Murray and Shagill theis Alexander
[00:11:07] It doesn't matter it's Steph Curry and I say it doesn't matter
[00:11:13] Only because you have the Bron James. You got a bunch of good big yeah, Kevin Durant
[00:11:19] I got a bunch of guys who can score their old right
[00:11:24] Doesn't matter it really doesn't they have length that's Serbian teams pretty nasty like they got to go through Joker
[00:11:31] But they can't run as much as the States they don't need to they can't of course you do
[00:11:39] Look you look back to
[00:11:44] You know that I know I know there's no Kobe, which is a different story altogether, but these guys will run and
[00:11:52] They're athletic and I don't think
[00:11:55] Anybody on that group even the Serbian team
[00:11:58] Can keep up when they're running and gunning on all cylinders. There's no chance
[00:12:04] No chance. They're saying Kyrie wants to play for Team USA to and the way he's been playing man like
[00:12:10] You have to give him some props. He's been absolutely dominant
[00:12:15] I mean Kyrie and Curry get tough backcourt
[00:12:18] It's pretty tough is Kyrie and Curry better than Jamal Murray and Shay Gilgias Alexander right now
[00:12:26] Yes, I don't know about that. I don't know those
[00:12:34] Champion I come on we'll talk about pressure later but come on Steph Steph and Steph and Kyrie
[00:12:41] That that is some that's a hard matchup
[00:12:43] That's a hard as getting gold baby, let's go
[00:12:47] Going for gold here first in sports reverence March 19
[00:12:52] Gold
[00:12:54] Let's go baby
[00:12:57] Now
[00:13:00] I'll show to them girls the head at key and nurse
[00:13:05] Australia Canada France and Nigeria so
[00:13:09] We'll see how they have no idea how they're gonna do the rankings are usually USA one Canada two right the rivalry is still there I think
[00:13:18] Think I think Australia is up there for the women's team. Okay, okay? Well, I think we will we find out by watching
[00:13:26] No, so Canada's ranked number five
[00:13:30] Australia's ranked number three
[00:13:32] Okay, and China is actually world ranking number two
[00:13:36] Wow, I'm rising that's that's
[00:13:39] Wow something
[00:13:41] Yeah, but so hey shout out to a Canadian team for getting there now go key and nurse
[00:13:46] Go key in there. Sure. She's probably a better reporter than she is a
[00:13:51] Basketball player. She's actually not a bad TSN analyst out of all the analysts there honestly. She's alright. She's alright
[00:13:59] All right, Jack. I can take those two
[00:14:01] Um
[00:14:03] Anyways, we're gonna talk about posterization because it's also Taz in the Olympics
[00:14:07] if you're
[00:14:09] While watching on any sort of sports social media March 18th March 19th, you would have seen Anthony Edwards
[00:14:17] absolutely destroy
[00:14:20] John Collins on a poster
[00:14:23] Anthony Edwards had already I quote-unquote
[00:14:25] Dunk of the Year candidate he put in a second so give us some stats about this dunk
[00:14:32] The that you find the NBA IG
[00:14:35] Yeah, this this dunk is absolutely crazy
[00:14:38] Are it the the vertical he had on that dunk hit 43.9 inches the max ball height was at 11
[00:14:47] 0.39 inches the takeoff distance was 10
[00:14:52] 0.6 feet and the ball speed through the rim
[00:14:56] 23.6 miles per hour absolutely ridiculous
[00:14:59] He dislocated his finger on the on the play just a monster jam
[00:15:04] There's a couple great jams that night, but this one I think takes the cake
[00:15:08] took the cake by far and
[00:15:11] And I'll fill this to you and I'll give you kind of your opinion on this
[00:15:15] What has happened to NBA posters?
[00:15:19] right, well, you know
[00:15:22] Have some thoughts, but I'll let you talk first on this
[00:15:26] Yeah, I think it's definitely we see less we see less
[00:15:30] I used to have posters
[00:15:31] I used to cut them out from your slam magazine
[00:15:33] Subscription that you ordered and I used to cut them out and and steal them as much as I could without you trying to notice
[00:15:39] And I'd have them all over my wall
[00:15:41] I would redo them every year almost pretty much almost every year at least a large section of them because there was so many
[00:15:47] amazing posters each year
[00:15:49] I think the way the game is being played now. This is why you see less posters
[00:15:55] There's way more three-pointers, right? It's just everyone shooting threes. Yeah, we're getting and because the the defense gets gets taken out
[00:16:02] So far it's easier to get a
[00:16:05] Uncontested layup or dunk then than it is a poster
[00:16:08] So I think there's just less attacking of the rim which some teams should do more especially that can't shoot very well
[00:16:15] But that's why that's my opinion
[00:16:19] I am going to go old man on this hardcore
[00:16:23] Yes, the NBA is so we'll see it is so we'll see if I could get on a soapbox and preach about this
[00:16:29] I would it is there's
[00:16:32] There's less guys going to the rim right anytime you go to the rim. There's a bunch of crying about all you follow
[00:16:38] Me this down the other
[00:16:40] Guys who play post or her or a center they want to shoot threes instead of grabbing rebounds and that's fine
[00:16:46] I get it threes are
[00:16:49] In a central part of the game they become more efficient
[00:16:51] I get it but if you can't get defensive rebounds, you're in big trouble and guys just don't want to end up on posters
[00:16:58] It's all about ego. They'd rather just let the guy fly by grab a dunk
[00:17:02] He got a balance and go instead of challenging these guys at the rim
[00:17:05] I think shock said it best like
[00:17:09] If any of those if anybody tried to guard him in this year's NBA he would just
[00:17:13] Holy ball of them. He would just dominate them. It wouldn't even be it
[00:17:18] Wouldn't even be a challenge anybody goes off
[00:17:21] Send him to the lane one hard file and nowadays you look at thought you look at the flagrant ones and all that
[00:17:26] Those are just regular files back in the day
[00:17:29] The wussification of the NBA has taken away any central any
[00:17:35] central aspect of of defense and
[00:17:38] Entertainment like it's the one of the biggest things
[00:17:42] Guy grew up from monster dunk and boom out of nowhere
[00:17:46] met at the rim
[00:17:48] Met at the rim. So that's my old guy rant
[00:17:51] You're right three pointers have played in a role in this a lack you walk. Oh my goodness look at guys
[00:17:57] Most of them have post footwork down
[00:18:00] They can barely figure that out and they just don't know no one's a block anymore
[00:18:04] They came in with umbo with the big finger way. That was one of the coolest things around town, right? So I love
[00:18:11] I love Dwayne Wade on the blocking anything
[00:18:14] He was one of the best blocking guards ever like he would meet anyone at the rim and then it's okay to get dunked on
[00:18:19] No, that happens, right? But yeah when he like took some guys. Oh, no, it was just unbelievable unbelievable
[00:18:26] But a lot of D Wade's blocks
[00:18:29] Were not like help defense blocks. They were guarding guys and just yeah one-on-one blocks. So yeah
[00:18:37] Those are nasty
[00:18:39] What are the is there a memorable dunk for you in game that kind of got to get you out of your seat?
[00:18:45] The one okay, I'll go I'll go back cuz there's one obviously
[00:18:51] I think that sticks out for everybody
[00:18:52] But the one that I'll talk about is Dwayne Wade dunking on Anderson Verra jou where goes down the middle lane
[00:18:59] dunks on Verra jou and and he curls up until like a little worm that hit that he is
[00:19:04] They're egg is Anderson Verra jou was also the king of floppers. So it was beautiful. That's my mind
[00:19:11] Okay, I won't say this one yet. I'll talk about this one after one big six out of my head
[00:19:16] Again another old school one Baron Davis on AK 47. Oh
[00:19:21] Yeah, that's thrown it back because this has been the Warriors were really bad and
[00:19:26] Baron Davis, I'm not sure I can't read the exact clip but he crosses over
[00:19:30] I
[00:19:31] Killing co comes to help defense and he just gets up two-foot jumper gets up and crowns under Caroline go
[00:19:39] Now, I think that's anything in the playoffs to is one of those ones that just percent
[00:19:44] blew your mind
[00:19:45] But my all the time all time dunk that got me hyped up the most I watched this live
[00:19:50] it was a Harry Vince Carter jumping over the French dude Freddie Weiss and
[00:19:55] It was it was so unexpected
[00:19:59] It was such a thing of beauty and
[00:20:02] It put it put his dunk comp to shame the dude the jet jumper was seven foot two dude in a game
[00:20:10] And threw it down and then almost got knocked out by KG
[00:20:15] In the end there I was
[00:20:17] Kimber was watching some documentary and then Baker was calling for the ball, but there's no chance
[00:20:22] Vince was giving that up and it was incredible. I can't I was one of those things like you saw it
[00:20:27] I was just like
[00:20:29] It's so early in the morning, but like
[00:20:32] How how is his boss saying?
[00:20:34] Doesn't seem real. So doesn't seem real doesn't seem real doesn't seem real black. Yeah. I love I love good in-game dunks for sure
[00:20:43] Was Vince Carter a better in-game dunker than
[00:20:47] Michael Jordan I think I think Vince
[00:20:56] Looked like a better in-game dunker
[00:20:59] Because they tweaked the rules for less following for that point
[00:21:03] Like Jordan would dunk but he would be getting like six guys holding him down somehow
[00:21:07] Right. There's a lot of more physicality true, but I think in terms of
[00:21:12] But I also think Vince was a bit of a better showman
[00:21:17] Because he would get those open dunks and Jordan would dunk with ferocity, but then to do something
[00:21:22] Yeah, I read it to windmill or 360 like it was more regular felt like
[00:21:27] But I was I would say
[00:21:29] Yeah, I would say Vince was a better
[00:21:31] In-game dunker probably because of the rules were probably because he just had a natural flare to him. Yeah, that was
[00:21:37] At least that's my opinion
[00:21:39] Me in the comments
[00:21:41] there was one there's one game that they were playing against the
[00:21:45] Tim Duncan and the Spurs and and Vince Vince got Tim Duncan twice in the same game and Tim was
[00:21:51] Just furious about it because he's doing the right thing on defense, right? But but yeah
[00:21:55] Oh, yeah, just he levitates and and not many guys get and not many guys get to bucket
[00:22:01] Yeah, basically no one gets Tim Duncan. No one like prime Tim Duncan. He got him. He got primed in Duncan
[00:22:07] Yeah, which is pretty incredible
[00:22:09] I know Jordan got lots of guys too and so did so did lots other people get but but those two stick out for me for sure
[00:22:16] for sure for sure
[00:22:18] Talking about primus, let's get some bills paid here

[00:24:26] You know same level of education didn't jj
[00:24:29] going to university
[00:24:31] J j j j j lebron. They have the same jj went to duke and lebron reddick to high school
[00:24:35] It's the same it's the same it's the same level of education
[00:24:39] Emotional damage
[00:24:41] Oh, yeah
[00:24:43] So speaking of speaking of duke you just set me up so bad that was perfect
[00:24:48] That was perfect because we're speaking of duke and the high school level of education. They uh,
[00:24:53] I wanted to propose a little friendly wager with my big bro with the coach

[00:25:28] Who whatever team
[00:25:30] Goes further in the tournament. Okay
[00:25:34] Okay, the losing team the losing player you or you or myself
[00:25:39] has to
[00:25:40] Take a on on the very next episode that I'd say able has to take a smell of smelling salt a full deep sniff
[00:25:50] In front of oh our whole audience

[00:26:36] So get your brackets in you have until thursday. Let's call it 10 a.m
[00:26:41] Thursday for star time before start time
[00:26:44] Whatever it is for start time
[00:26:47] Yeah, uh, we'll find out. Uh, so there's your first start time
[00:26:51] And we'll go from there
[00:26:53] uh, one thing you brought up in our little pre pod discussion
[00:26:58] Is that uh
[00:27:00] There's a consensus out there
[00:27:02] That the women's game
[00:27:05] Has more popular players in the men's game
[00:27:08] And that the women's turny
[00:27:10] could be
[00:27:12] Shifting towards
[00:27:14] The it thing this year
[00:27:17] Um
[00:27:19] What do you think i'll give you i'll give you the floor first because I know you have some
[00:27:23] Some real deep thoughts about this
[00:27:26] Is the women's game is women's march madness
[00:27:29] Going to be more popular than men's
[00:27:33] Um, absolutely not it's not going to be more popular
[00:27:36] It is
[00:27:37] There are some great players that are that are that are going through this year's tournament. They're they're trying to relate
[00:27:44] This year's upcoming
[00:27:46] WNBA draft class to the draft class of lebron james chris bosh
[00:27:52] Mellow anthony and our boy darko millichitch. All right, and darko the first one to win a championship of the four
[00:27:59] um
[00:28:00] Very true
[00:28:01] And you know, I like it's good. It's good. I'm glad they're promoting the game
[00:28:06] I'm glad uh that the game is looks seems to be growing. We'll see how it goes
[00:28:10] We see katlyn clark's following. Um kind of bigger than most w nba games
[00:28:16] I would say uh, there's huge lineups for every every stadium she goes to and she's a very exciting player
[00:28:21] I think she's great. I know there's a couple other ones that are out there as well
[00:28:25] I know angel reese is the popular
[00:28:28] kind of
[00:28:29] Kind of defender and and things like that and and she makes a lot of money with the nil stuff
[00:28:34] I know page bukers for the ucon is is supposed to be good too
[00:28:38] And there's a couple others as well, but at the end of the day
[00:28:42] um, you know, the men's game is where all the money comes in the men's game is where
[00:28:47] Uh, it'll probably you know, I think it'll be more watched
[00:28:52] But uh when it comes in terms of money for sure, it's it's definitely where it brings the money in so
[00:28:58] Uh and for my personal
[00:29:01] Point of view. I think it's a lot
[00:29:03] More exciting a lot more much more exciting of a game
[00:29:06] I love the pureness of the college basketball game, especially the men's one
[00:29:10] Where there's a lot of system play but also just a lot of hard-nosed defense a lot of pressure
[00:29:16] And all those kinds of things and situations so
[00:29:18] So
[00:29:19] Go ahead your turn
[00:29:21] Uh, yeah, I'm with you. I don't think
[00:29:24] I think what's gonna happen is on tsn of those four channels
[00:29:28] two women's and two women's which is
[00:29:31] I think kind of ridiculous because
[00:29:34] outside of katelyn clark and
[00:29:36] In the lsu team and maybe that's south carolina team
[00:29:40] Who wants to watch that?
[00:29:43] I don't know
[00:29:44] um
[00:29:45] I think one thing that the women's game does have going for it though is you don't have any one in downs really
[00:29:52] So you have time to build up that that brand of
[00:29:56] This is a player. This is you know, so you watch throughout the years
[00:29:59] and
[00:30:00] Not that the women's game is bad or it's just it's a great great game to learn fundamentals and
[00:30:06] uh
[00:30:07] Different types the way of playing underneath the rim not having to dunk and stuff like that
[00:30:12] it has its own qualities but
[00:30:14] The men's game is just significantly better in terms of
[00:30:18] quality and style
[00:30:20] and
[00:30:21] Aside from, you know, katelyn clark packing out university gyms
[00:30:25] You're not going to see too many more
[00:30:28] Being packed up every game in the men's side will be packed out 1000 percent
[00:30:33] And I just find it's a much better game now in your
[00:30:37] In your comparison to the nba. I disagree somewhat
[00:30:42] Um, yes, there is more
[00:30:45] Game game and you know the pressure of the tournament
[00:30:49] But I think if you if you look at the nba game, it's it's way more nuanced
[00:30:54] It does look like look like a lot of one-on-ones and teams like the spurs of old and even the golden state warriors today
[00:31:01] You know get props and get their flowers for ball movement
[00:31:05] but um
[00:31:06] When I go to games, I look at what are the guys doing off the ball?
[00:31:09] And sometimes there's guys who just stand there
[00:31:12] But there's other times where there's a lot of side movement side screens picking roles all just a nonsense
[00:31:16] It happens that most people just don't understand and that's okay because they're looking at you know
[00:31:22] All eyes are on LeBron going against kevin durant in a one-on-one battle
[00:31:25] but there's a lot of nuances and different things and if one guy doesn't do his job
[00:31:32] It's over right so I by will say
[00:31:35] The college game is way more passionate. It's a little more fun to watch
[00:31:39] you don't have guys load managing themselves as we've talked about before and
[00:31:46] I I will take the tournament over most things
[00:31:49] But postseason basketball nba finals. That's still where it's at for me
[00:31:55] No, no not arguing with you there. Um
[00:31:58] Probably agree with you on most of what you said there. So you know, I just love
[00:32:03] the
[00:32:04] The intensity of the tournament the pressure that goes into every play
[00:32:07] Every
[00:32:08] Possession means so much, you know the time the time is it's two halves. It's uh, it's just constant
[00:32:15] Walk going and it's a very difficult thing to win this tournament and um, you know
[00:32:21] Maybe you can transition that into our next part of the conversation of
[00:32:25] Of you know as we talk about pressure and and we see the similarities and and sports and faith
[00:32:31] Yeah, one of the things we've really talked about
[00:32:34] Kind of dropped hints here is pressure throughout the entire pod
[00:32:38] and
[00:32:39] For those of you who've played any level of sports
[00:32:42] There's always that pressure to win
[00:32:44] and that pressure can come internally can come externally and
[00:32:48] What we kind of want to talk about a bit about today is
[00:32:52] The similarities between sport and faith and pressure and maybe some differences as well
[00:32:56] And some of the similarities is there's you know, there's a a person above you on the team
[00:33:02] And that's the coach and in your faith life. That's God, right? They give you instructions
[00:33:08] It's up to you whether you follow them or not all the time
[00:33:11] and they have a game plan sorted out and
[00:33:16] There's a there's a clear hierarchy
[00:33:19] involved with that
[00:33:21] Another example is there's you know your practice your whatever skill set it is
[00:33:26] Whether it's your your jumper, whether it's a slap shot whether it's a forehand in tennis
[00:33:31] there's all sorts of drills and
[00:33:34] Work put in to become better at that skill in in your faith life
[00:33:41] That looks like reading your bible praying every day doing a devotional surrounding yourself with other godly people
[00:33:50] Being obedient and practicing, you know
[00:33:52] Your prayer life in a quiet time things like that
[00:33:55] And then there's the pressure of the in game where you're trying to win you're trying to score
[00:34:00] Trying to fend and ultimately come out a champion and in in life and in your faith life. It's that experience like
[00:34:07] There's that christian journey like you know, it's
[00:34:11] It's great. It's a journey though, but it's it's not exactly the easiest thing to do
[00:34:16] right there's going to be
[00:34:18] trials there's going to be tribulations
[00:34:20] There's going to be things that go wrong in your life
[00:34:22] where you have to look back on what are the skills that I've learned and things like that and
[00:34:28] Follow through and use that experience to come on top
[00:34:31] Now are you always going to win in every game and in every
[00:34:35] life
[00:34:36] lesson no
[00:34:38] No one's perfect
[00:34:40] everybody loses
[00:34:41] some more than others, but
[00:34:43] There's some intertwining of between and similarities between faith and sport
[00:34:49] And you can clearly see that
[00:34:52] um
[00:34:53] If if you look close enough because it's it's it's there right and uh, what are your thoughts on that daniel?
[00:35:01] Yeah, no, absolutely agree with everything you said and um, you know, I
[00:35:07] I think it's a hard thing. You know, I look at the quarterback in the nfl
[00:35:10] You know a good quarterback is able to
[00:35:13] Stand in the pressure cooker
[00:35:16] Deliver the pass
[00:35:17] While knowing he's going to get destroyed right
[00:35:21] I think that's a takes a lot of
[00:35:24] Skill I think that takes a lot of trust
[00:35:27] Take takes a lot of um, you know guts
[00:35:30] And I think that really relates with how we are called to walk in our faith
[00:35:35] You know, I think we are called to be able to to to when when god calls us to a situation saying
[00:35:41] Are we going are we willing to stand in into the pressure cooker knowing?
[00:35:47] you know, we might get
[00:35:49] Tackled really bad you might get hurt from that tackle
[00:35:52] And how willing we are to do that? I think that's another thing in our and in in the christian journey. You know, it's um
[00:36:00] It's so much more than just a
[00:36:02] simple
[00:36:04] Easy walk like you were saying I think it's a difficult one. I think it's a difficult journey ahead and
[00:36:08] And it's something that we practice and and work on daily. You know, you don't just become
[00:36:14] great by
[00:36:15] You know making a decision, you know, you have to work at things you have to put in the daily effort
[00:36:22] To to reach those goals
[00:36:25] And I think a lot of that also has to do with a word that has been kind of been going through my mind for the last few months
[00:36:31] Is is the word surrender?
[00:36:33] You know, am I going to surrender?
[00:36:35] You know my desires to allow god's desires to to really be the ones that are number one in my life
[00:36:43] Right. Do I care more about the money? I'm going to make or the way I'm going to serve, you know
[00:36:48] And I'm I'm going to be able to stand in that pressure pot for that
[00:36:52] Yeah
[00:36:53] Yeah, I think that's that's great. The surrender piece is really interesting
[00:36:57] because when you look at sports
[00:37:01] You can still win without surrendering
[00:37:04] right there's
[00:37:06] Especially in team sports
[00:37:08] You can have one guy just decide to go off book
[00:37:11] maybe
[00:37:13] I think I think basketball
[00:37:14] Maybe hockey but basketball for sure is kind of one of the easiest ones to look at
[00:37:18] In football there's way too many guys. It's it's harder that way
[00:37:21] But basketball you can have one really dominant player
[00:37:23] He decides to ignore what the coach is saying and say, you know what? I'm going to go one on one myself
[00:37:28] Or instead of setting a screen. I'm just gonna
[00:37:32] Run a different play or anything like that and take take that
[00:37:37] Decision into their own hands
[00:37:39] And say you know what I'm selfish. I want to make the Nike shoe deal
[00:37:42] I want to be on sports center or we in TSN turning point and I want to own it
[00:37:48] Versus hey playing within the team system playing
[00:37:51] Uh, do follow with the coach says
[00:37:53] Uh, you can get away with that and still win
[00:37:57] Right like there's a member of this one playoff turning or playoffs where uh, Kobe again. I think it was against phoenix
[00:38:04] Decided not to shoot one game
[00:38:06] Just to show his teammates that they need him
[00:38:10] That's incredibly selfish
[00:38:13] Right, it's not just it's not a regular season game. It's not even a preseason game
[00:38:17] Right like I you can get away with that in like playing pick-up ball. Sure
[00:38:21] This is a nasty televised playoff game
[00:38:25] And he said hey, you know what I'm not shooting because you guys suck and you guys need me
[00:38:30] You can't get away with that when your faith right? You can't just say
[00:38:34] Hey, I'm gonna loan ranger it. This is one of the main differences. I'm gonna do this on my own
[00:38:39] I don't need god. I don't need friends. I don't need anybody
[00:38:42] Um because it's a very lonely walk
[00:38:45] As a human you're sinful and and that sinfulness makes you unworthy
[00:38:51] You can be the best person in the entire world
[00:38:55] You can give to charity. You can never hurt anybody never talk back
[00:38:59] You can be obedient to your superiors and to your parents and you can love and and be and be great this amazing person
[00:39:08] But if you don't have jesus as your lord and savior, you're not going to have it
[00:39:14] Right though the way salvation works is it's not built on
[00:39:18] Works it's not built on what you can do
[00:39:21] It's built in the simple decision of
[00:39:24] Asking jesus to be your lord and savior and following his steps
[00:39:29] Right so in the end you can do all the right things, but you're still not going to win
[00:39:34] You need to rely on god
[00:39:36] and they're in your faith turning because
[00:39:39] He doesn't operate side of the box that we
[00:39:42] can think it
[00:39:43] Yeah, I love that. I love that. I think um, you know, if you look at a championship team, well, we'll keep in the basketball
[00:39:50] um
[00:39:51] Talk here on a championship team, you know
[00:39:54] You're defined role right you have uh, uh
[00:39:58] You you have the the role you got to play sometimes
[00:40:01] Maybe the the second best guy you got to score a little bit more of that that very day
[00:40:06] But but usually it's a top guy that's got to get you your buckets, right?
[00:40:09] And and you have your defined roles you have your your your defensive stopper
[00:40:13] You know you have your crazy guy all the kind of stuff you have your defined roles
[00:40:17] And and similar to a christian journey we have our defined roles as well
[00:40:21] We have people that are going to be great business people and and and pastors and and volunteers in different areas
[00:40:28] Right you have all our roles that god has called us to and we're supposed to trust in those and walk in those and
[00:40:36] You know when you have that championship mindset when you bring that into the faith's talk, um
[00:40:44] That's the the the heartbeat behind of trying to do your best in your role
[00:40:48] You want to honor god through that as best as you can so
[00:40:52] I I like that kind of
[00:40:55] thinking of you know, there is pressure in every situation and there's pressure that
[00:41:00] um
[00:41:02] We face in our daily and our daily lives
[00:41:04] But when we know that what we are doing is for the right cause what we know that we're doing is
[00:41:10] Honoring to god then we know that really the pressures is is not on our abilities right? It's on us being faithful
[00:41:17] Which I think is a huge
[00:41:20] A very difficult thing for us to do as humans right my my first reaction to when when some
[00:41:26] Trouble comes my way is like how can I solve this and what's the most efficient way to solve this?
[00:41:31] Right instead of saying what I should be doing saying lord. What should I do in this?
[00:41:35] You know you brought this or the situations come in in front of me. How should I approach this?
[00:41:41] What can I learn from this? How can I?
[00:41:44] Get through this right and I think that's a great practice
[00:41:48] Yeah, I think you know this on my head because like both of us played point guard
[00:41:52] Growing up you probably paid longer than I did
[00:41:55] um, are both used to controlling the game and and having
[00:42:00] Kind of like the marionettes where you can control what's going on and really being able to dictate left front center
[00:42:05] Same thing with quarterbacks same thing
[00:42:07] Uh with lots of different sports. You have the one guy who can control everything and and when you're used to having that control
[00:42:14] It's really hard to say
[00:42:16] Okay, god, I'm gonna give this to you
[00:42:19] And just be obedient it's getting out of god's ways. This is the hardest thing
[00:42:23] And so what what looks like pressure?
[00:42:26] Uh for somebody else may not be pressure
[00:42:28] Person b the things that I struggle with
[00:42:32] May not be pressure for things that you struggle with and vice versa
[00:42:35] And a lot of times you really fall into the trap of oh man, my life is so hard right now
[00:42:40] I look at that person over there and they don't even love god
[00:42:43] But they have billions of dollars and you know is that covetous trap and we think their life is perfect
[00:42:49] Or you look at instagram and you scroll and you scroll and you're scrolling man
[00:42:52] Why can't I go with my wife on vacation or take my kids to disneyland?
[00:42:57] Or look like this look like that have the perfect body
[00:43:00] There's different types of pressure that were put under and all the pressure
[00:43:05] He's gonna help is meant to
[00:43:07] Test you and to refine you and if you don't have god
[00:43:13] You're just gonna be stuck in this vortex of I need to do this. I must do this
[00:43:19] Uh, I want this it's it's this II
[00:43:23] Versus if you have god, it's like hey, what do you want god like sure
[00:43:28] I'm a little bit overweight. I know I need to
[00:43:31] Get myself back in shape
[00:43:33] Not because I'm trying to impress and put my six pack on instagram
[00:43:37] But because I want to be able to help I want to be healthy so I can serve god to best of my ability
[00:43:42] Right if I'm you know sick all the time or if I'm uh, not, you know able to
[00:43:48] Have endurance to run this race
[00:43:51] I'm sitting on the sidelines. That's not helpful
[00:43:54] Right and I turn from this II mentality to what do you want god?
[00:43:59] And what what do you expect out of me? And what are you trying to talk about?
[00:44:05] right because god has a plan and
[00:44:08] He's he's there beside you that footprints, you know that footprints poster
[00:44:12] Uh is is so true. God is walking right beside you. It's up to you to follow
[00:44:18] but
[00:44:19] God can only do so much and he's not going to force you to do anything
[00:44:24] He's gonna it's up to you to be like, okay. I'm gonna be my bible. I'm gonna be obedient spend time praying
[00:44:28] But if if you're not doing those things
[00:44:32] You're just you're kind of handcuffed handcuffing god and saying
[00:44:36] I'm gonna do it my way
[00:44:38] You fit into my box and we'll go from there
[00:44:41] But in reality that that's not the way this works because
[00:44:44] let's be real
[00:44:46] God is all powerful all knowing and everything
[00:44:50] Me Joel Chen is one dude
[00:44:53] in his Toronto apartment
[00:44:55] Who can only do x amount of things?
[00:44:58] right, so
[00:44:59] I think from from my perspective talk about faith and sports and simulators and dissimilarities
[00:45:04] The difference is really
[00:45:07] You cannot win the end game by yourself
[00:45:11] you can
[00:45:12] Do as much as you want to do and try and
[00:45:15] and
[00:45:16] Hit all the targets but at the end you can't win on your own
[00:45:20] And that's something with that is I think for guys like you and myself
[00:45:24] Is a bit harder to comprehend because we're so used to saying
[00:45:28] I got this
[00:45:31] I got this I can fix this I can change this
[00:45:34] I mean, that's probably hard for most guys in general because we are
[00:45:37] Problem solvers generally
[00:45:40] Right. We see an issue. It's like I got it. I got a solution
[00:45:44] um
[00:45:45] And it's not like that with your faith journey because
[00:45:49] again, we are just humans
[00:45:52] God is this
[00:45:55] Incredibly powerful all knowing
[00:45:57] Being that exists outside of what we can understand
[00:46:01] It's kind of like when you're playing the sims
[00:46:04] Right you as the guy controlling the sims themselves have all the power in the world the sims have no idea what they're doing
[00:46:11] Right and that's how
[00:46:13] Not that it's a weird analogy. I think but
[00:46:16] It gives that gives you that idea that god doesn't operate how we think he can operate right? He operates how he wants to operate
[00:46:24] Yeah, for sure for sure
[00:46:25] I think our I think it was in our preamble where we're talking about how the the christian journey is not an easy journey
[00:46:32] And you know what we should really expect what we know as as christ followers is that in this walk
[00:46:38] It's it's it's difficult. There is challenges. There's lots of pressure
[00:46:42] It's challenging and pressure is actually not a bad thing. You know, the pressure is where you learn so much pressure
[00:46:48] You know, you know the saying is pressure creates diamonds fire finds the gold. That's um, that's that's so true
[00:46:55] It rings so true
[00:46:56] You see it in how you develop as an athlete
[00:46:59] You see it so much as well as how you develop in your christian journey as well
[00:47:04] And it's something actually you look forward to you actually start living and enjoying the pressure
[00:47:09] And as we continue that walk in the christian journey, you're gonna understand that
[00:47:12] That's more and more of that's coming and and happening every single day
[00:47:16] And and the more you're able to walk in that the more you're able to be more comfortable in the pressure
[00:47:21] You know just being being able to be dribbling with your your left hand as good as with your right hand
[00:47:26] Right you we have to be able to be comfortable with it not having to look down at the ball to say
[00:47:30] You know where you're going or we do all those practices and it's for a reason so we can handle the pressure
[00:47:34] We know what to do. We know how to operate when when pressure hits us, right?
[00:47:39] Yeah, and I think we
[00:47:41] One thing that you know as christ followers that we have to understand is
[00:47:46] You're not going to be perfect
[00:47:48] you're going to make mistakes
[00:47:50] and recognizing what those mistakes are and
[00:47:54] Recognizing what you may potentially did wrong
[00:47:57] Is a huge first step
[00:47:59] There's there's the only the only person who's perfect was jesus
[00:48:03] And as you know, we're called to emulate him and follow his steps and do what jesus did
[00:48:10] We're gonna we're gonna fall short
[00:48:13] and
[00:48:14] What you do after you fall short just like in sports is you can either lay there and
[00:48:19] Get trampled on or you get right back up and go after it
[00:48:24] And that's part of part of the pressure part of
[00:48:27] Learning what it's what it takes to be a winner
[00:48:30] Both the sports realm and in the faith journey piece
[00:48:35] is
[00:48:36] experience and if you just sit in your
[00:48:39] Room and don't do anything. They'll never experience the beauty of life that god has planned for you
[00:48:48] It's good. I love it
[00:48:50] I love it
[00:48:53] How do we want to end coach? So as a team make sure number one
[00:48:57] Get your brackets put in before thursday
[00:48:59] Start time number two like us on on facebook on youtube share us on x
[00:49:06] Uh and instagram share the real comment get the engagement going
[00:49:11] uh because number one it helps us but also
[00:49:14] Really what we're trying to do is spread the love of god and we want to do that through sports and our faith and
[00:49:19] We need your help to do it so
[00:49:23] How about it and we'll see you the next part
[00:49:26] Peace
