[00:00:00] Hey hey welcome to the Sports Reverends podcast. My name is Dan, I'm joined with my co-host, my big brother, they call him Coach Joel. He has coached around the world, coach many greats like myself and we are excited for what we got in store for you coach. Why don't you tell us some of the excitement going around in your life? Alright, in my life!

[00:00:39] Yeah, you know, yes, this week it's been amazingly gorgeous hitting one. He almost 20 degrees so that's exciting. Works been okay. Church is life is good and yeah it's been a good week overall.

[00:00:55] Ready to get quite cast in today. What's going on in your world? Well, why don't you tell the world a little bit about the Toronto Chander and family growing?

[00:01:08] Oh, no, yes we're dropping the news here today. Hey. Yeah, I think we need to. I think we need to that's fair.

[00:01:14] Sister husband and little little nephew, the cutest guy there have finally put a pen to paper and found a home to live in.

[00:01:22] So the next little bit as they are moving from the tropical paradise of Australia, the frigid winter peg and now to Toronto where they will never need their winter jacket ever again.

[00:01:36] So super excited about that. I think they're coming in next couple of weeks so that's really fun. Really fun and exciting.

[00:01:43] I was going to say the Chander and family is growing in Toronto, but it's actually there. They are the Kamala Swarins.

[00:01:50] So yeah, come on. Good luck spelling man.

[00:01:53] 100%. I tried to get them a present once and decided to engrave his name on one of their wedding photos and on a thing and it costs it an extra 50 bucks because there's like 75 letters

[00:02:05] and they're last name. So it was great. Good times. Good times. Other than family coming through, I've very excited for that. Also excited for the East, your season as well.

[00:02:15] Lots of good fun. We're going to have and celebrating that and bringing more events and I'm happy with that.

[00:02:21] I'm going to be good time.

[00:02:23] So we want to take a look at one shout out.

[00:02:26] Great one shout out. Go ahead.

[00:02:28] Jason Stubborn struck.

[00:02:29] Okay. Hang out. You saw TFC last week. That was super super fun. He's a regular listener. So also my best friend.

[00:02:37] So shout out Jason.

[00:02:39] Shout out Stores Chuck. Also one of the coaches assistant coach. The assistant coach. Maybe we need to have him on the pod one time.

[00:02:46] I think you can do that.

[00:02:48] We can give time. Maybe he can bring in some of the footy expertise.

[00:02:52] Look what yeah.

[00:02:53] Go talk here. That's for sure.

[00:02:55] Talk here. That's great.

[00:02:56] Once you tell us what we're talking about today in our show and then we'll run down.

[00:03:00] Awesome. So we got quick hitters today as always.

[00:03:04] We're going to talk a little NBA talking about is it fair to have a minimum games requirement to be eligible for some awards.

[00:03:12] We've talked with some NFL bit of hit hits misses.

[00:03:16] And we're also going to talk about how does how does faith title is keeping your eye in the prize.

[00:03:22] So we're going to talk about how to play the game.

[00:03:26] I think it's a good thing that she goes for the big swing for the fences or go for singles.

[00:03:30] And yeah, when you start a softest quick hitters.

[00:03:34] Getting to some quick hitter news Sunday March 17th is selection Sunday for the NCAA tournament.

[00:03:40] I might be sick the first week and watch all the games. So we'll see how that goes.

[00:03:46] Friday March 15th is the quarter final drop for the Champions League.

[00:03:51] The Champions League.

[00:03:53] Top one for the Yankee is Garrett Cole waiting for his elbow to be diagnosed to determine how long he will be out.

[00:04:01] Well, the Yankee survived that in case. I don't know because we have the NFL free agency as hit upon us and unlike NHL trade deadline.

[00:04:11] This was a lot of sudden fun stuff going on so far.

[00:04:13] Kirk Cousins left Minnesota with the Falcons.

[00:04:16] Baker me field. He sounds the box and two years ago, the hope of an even Patriots has not been traded to Jacksonville.

[00:04:24] Back up starter back up to the starter.

[00:04:28] Trevor Lawrence Las Vegas Knights added Noah Panifin Thomas Hurdle and Anthony Manza.

[00:04:35] Okay, pretty good for the Vegas Knights. Hey, shout out to the jets with some of the moves they made.

[00:04:40] I'll do a six and supportive quick hit or news is Spring Training Baseball has started and it's been exciting watching some of these teams play all their players and hit back.

[00:04:55] I think that would be one of the funnest things to attend is Spring Training in Dineet and checking out some blue jays baseball. I would love that.

[00:05:04] Before we go anywhere further, let's handle some business. Urban Hope is our mentorship program that I get to run in downtown Toronto.

[00:05:13] We are we were basically a program that helps kids learn mentorship skills and then put them into practice and we provide a safe place for students.

[00:05:23] We provide different programming weekly for the students and drop in and youth programs and we also have affordable summer camps.

[00:05:31] We're only charged $10 per student for our summer camps so that's affordable for every family to attend summer camp as well.

[00:05:38] That's compared to so we charge $10 per week for the summer camp compared to city summer camps that charge $200 upwards per camp.

[00:05:49] We're only able to get affordable for every student to be able to come and hang out and learn some biblical principles and learn some sports, learn about arts and have a safe time doing that as well.

[00:06:01] If you are able to support any kind of way check out the sportsurbanes.com slash sponsors and you can see the ways you can give right there if you're giving over $20 and you live in Canada.

[00:06:12] You can actually be eligible for tax receipts as well. So make a please if you can support in any kind of way you can send a few kids to camp you can support and see all the program details that we have of the costs that cost about $25,000 and fundraising that we do every single year just to help the programs.

[00:06:31] The baseline of the programs as well so every dollar that it's sent to urban hope goes towards the programs and all that as well. So please continue to give thank you for your giving and thanks for tuning into this sportsurban podcast let's go.

[00:06:48] Absolutely yeah great great opportunities there for sure diving right into it diving right into it this is the first year that the NBA has enacted a minimum games requirement for players to be eligible for the rookie of the year.

[00:07:05] So we have a lot of people who are going to be eligible for six man MVP and any all NBA teams they are tired of players sitting and resting in load management.

[00:07:17] They want to make sure the best product is out there.

[00:07:21] You know we'll see some some guys have already been knocked out of some races already.

[00:07:26] You know not too far away from from the also game so down what do you think is this a fair rules or you know is there a bit of bias towards the money making scheme what are your thoughts.

[00:07:40] Well imagine this you are working full time and your union steps in and says you get to have a whole month's worth off of time on top of the original already scheduled time off when seasons are over and play off so over and all that kind of stuff.

[00:08:00] Imagine they came in and said you actually have the right to take 17 games off that's a month months worth of games in the NBA and and you're still going to get paid for you're still going to be fully compensated and every kind of.

[00:08:14] And then the first thing that happens is you're still getting all the stuff that happens for NBA players you get it all you still get it all no penalty.

[00:08:21] I think it's a I understand it's about trying to keep players to play more games and encourage them and I think we've seen that a little bit.

[00:08:32] But we still seen a lot that have sat out lot that are saying that they want to save themselves for play off runs and all that kind of stuff but what sports science if you look into the sports science of it all.

[00:08:43] It says you are actually supposed to be playing more and more intensely especially at this time of the year more minutes and everyone's talking about minutes and they blame Tom Tibito for playing to any minute, which I think is just such a.

[00:08:56] Cop out thing but they talk about minutes and restrictions and you're setting yourself up for a better play off run well sports science tells you otherwise the NBA has brought that forward and has shared that with all these teams and shared their their information and has has proven that it actually is better for players to be playing more minutes more intense minutes and this is the season to be ramping up the minutes for those players.

[00:09:22] I think it's a good thing to have a minute and requirement because from the fans perspective not everyone is.

[00:09:40] You know upper white middle class upper middle class but they can just afford season tickets and go.

[00:09:49] Why I think wait for get them you know Indians you know you know Asians they are the highest earners in all right relax relax relax relax here why I know what I meant.

[00:10:03] But I mean you know you're a little class right a lot of people save a lot of money to take their family to these games and they're not sitting courts are they're sitting in the top top top top where it's the cheapest but they've saved all year this might be kids Christmas gifts birthday gifts whatever.

[00:10:21] And they're excited to see LeBron take on Kevin Durant there's stoked for that and all of a sudden oh my favorite player isn't playing because of load management.

[00:10:31] From an optics point of view that sucks right you hype yourself up you get to go and all of a sudden one of the main reasons why you're going.

[00:10:44] Is taking a break and until you get that from up from a.

[00:10:48] Entered payment value approach.

[00:10:52] They need to do something different just like I'll be also a game is bogus and no one cares you got to fix that they're trying to to stoke the responsibility of hey players.

[00:11:04] You were also an entertainment project this is part of your job and like I think Vanessa Brian said it one of the best ways was.

[00:11:12] Kobe didn't care how hurt he was just like it must have jorded.

[00:11:17] They both these guys knew that people paid hard earned money to come see them play.

[00:11:25] Right and so I think from that perspective then be had to do something.

[00:11:31] And I think it's fair now from the flip side of hey we're trying to wrap up for the playoffs we're trying to make sure my guys are healthy and trying to build team depth and one or not.

[00:11:45] It's a bit of a conspiracy that the NBA provides their own sports science data that somehow conveniently says play more near the end of the season to get a better shape for the playoffs.

[00:12:04] I feel I feel that's a bit of a controversial thing just like how Roger good L is the is the judge jury next executioner of the NFL when it comes to play or safety things right that's also not really.

[00:12:21] I think there's a conflict of interest there as well so I understand for the players side hey we don't want to get hurt you don't do this on the fans perspective.

[00:12:31] I want to see my guys play I came here to watch so and so and especially when you think what in terms of how fantasy is impacted the game like fantasies sports you know.

[00:12:43] People no longer cheer for teams most of the time the cheering for individual players that's also you know Chris at the game gave a watch.

[00:12:50] But I I I a big conspiracy conspiracy conspiracy all on the NBA providing data about the sports science but that's me putting my tin hat on and.

[00:13:02] Let me get my let me get my don cherry jacket on all right you want to enjoy the honey you want to drink the milk you got a put 40 got aware of the poppy are I put put some respect and share that and that's exactly the same kind of.

[00:13:16] Come on like this is the NBA players is a privilege to play and I think 65 games is a fair thing I know the players complain about I think 65 games is fair and it affects their wallet when they aren't playing that way and and that goes for for massive.

[00:13:33] Like Donna and Mitchell has just missed who was going to be all NBA for sure miss 65 games joy on beat all that stuff that affects their wallet in a massive way.

[00:13:43] I think that's a very competitive regard like Jalen Brown who isn't in the NBA conversation as an all NBA player but he's making 300 million so yeah that's a great incentive and you see guys like why an Anthony Davis Anthony Davis is missed less than five games this year and pretty sure.

[00:14:00] I think it's a very good way to get the money is still in the running for all that kind of stuff so look at has affected some of their as they would say that they're not injured this year itself but roofs in the pudding and as what I think so.

[00:14:13] I think you with the 65 to answer the question and I think you said you did as well I think it's fair.

[00:14:18] I think it's fair I will say this though if Kauai doesn't win in 2019.

[00:14:24] I don't think this becomes a thing true that's so true.

[00:14:29] I love as much as I love that it's Kauai and the Raptors winning if they don't win this whole idea of load management doesn't explode the way it did after that's the one caveat.

[00:14:43] Especially as like a Raptor friend like I was okay with I was okay with okay yeah quiet you sit today.

[00:14:48] I don't care I'm gonna buy tickets to this game I'm glad you're sitting so you'll be ready for the playoffs and I'm one of I don't know if I feel like that was like the heart beat of Toronto they were okay with it.

[00:14:59] I've never been else was like that's that's that's garbage but at the moment I was okay with it but.

[00:15:05] I'm offering to give this guy free condo yeah it was worth a millions of dollars just for every stay condo.

[00:15:14] I'm going to say that's what I'm saying for everything so of course we're okay watching him sit and we think we're gonna win.

[00:15:20] Let's talk about how this translates your faith right.

[00:15:25] Can you load manager faith.

[00:15:29] I'll just start off with.

[00:15:31] Yeah I think load managing your faith that's a Canadian Christian I'll say North American Christian attitude you know you do the merit bare minimum yeah yeah did the prayer yeah.

[00:15:44] Go to church here and there and and you'll pray once in a while but the the times you start to really pray or really go after it is when the the boat sinking or when the sky is falling right that's when you become serious and and I don't think that's the proper way of or the I don't think that's how.

[00:16:05] We are intended to walk in in these steps you know what we're intended to do is to.

[00:16:13] Every step of the way make it the most important thing of following following God's plan right that's that's that's where we're going to go and I'll pass it back to you before I go any further.

[00:16:24] Yeah no I think.

[00:16:27] It's interesting we're talking about load management because the Bible talks about running the race.

[00:16:35] Right and in your life you don't know when your race is going to have.

[00:16:40] No one knows when they're going to have their time on earth be done so if you're load managing your life or your faith.

[00:16:50] You're not taking what God has planned for you he's not you're not taking what God has asked of you you're not going to be as obedient as you should be.

[00:17:01] You just like I can do it tomorrow. I can do it next week or I'm wondering if we'll church on Christmas and Easter the big holidays right and it kind of ties up talks about we talked about last week and like you know read your Bible,

[00:17:16] pray reading your grow grow grow like that's a simple little children's nursery rhyme but it's so I guess you know you would know better than I but it's so the youologically.

[00:17:29] And it's so as so many layers to that that it's it's not just for kids it's for us everyday right so yeah I think just like on athletes going to wrap up towards in the season where we know that we're in the end times of.

[00:17:45] The world and we we have a wrap it up our faith and putting in the hard work to get where you need to go.

[00:17:52] Yeah exactly so I I mostly brought up the sports science argument for the for the reason of saying like for the playoffs the MBA said the sports science behind it all is that you the more minutes you play in the regular season actually prepares you for the intense minutes that you're going to be playing in the playoffs and you're you're playing more games in the regular season you're traveling more.

[00:18:13] And and this is the time to start ramping up your minutes to get to the.

[00:18:17] To because in the playoffs most of the most of the starters and and the people that are going to play you're going to be playing minimum 40 minutes a game 40 minutes of intense.

[00:18:27] Play and if in need if you haven't done that at all your bodies not conditioned for that and it's yeah that's where you end up getting injuries and things like that just like in our faith was if we decide to.

[00:18:40] You know take seven days off from from from praying or the Bible right you're going to see that effect on your personal walk your personal journey and and you'll see you'll you'll you'll literally feel it and and that's not the proper way of it's supposed to be a desire to.

[00:19:01] I want to grow and want to learn more and want to strive for more of God in your life right and that's I think athletes actually have that practice really a lot of them have it.

[00:19:13] I think they're really like down really well in the terms of how they train their body right even I know a lot of those guys that set out games are still working out and things like that too.

[00:19:22] But it's it's the they do have a good mindset that sense.

[00:19:26] Yeah, yeah it's really interesting because for practical like actual.

[00:19:34] Experience that I've had all my teams when I coach them we run.

[00:19:41] We run we run and we run and we run and then we run some more.

[00:19:47] And when we at the start of the season we do a 55.

[00:19:52] Maybe one or two guys make it.

[00:19:56] Maybe.

[00:19:58] Towards the end of the season we're giving you an up for playoffs.

[00:20:02] I would say 75 to 8% of the team makes it.

[00:20:06] And that's that consistency that's us doing it almost every day that's putting the hard work that's a lot of me yelling that I'm going to kick you off the team.

[00:20:16] And a lot of it's an internal drive to this is this is the marked I need to hit.

[00:20:22] How am I going to get there and pushing yourself to do better pushing yourself to take opportunity and.

[00:20:29] It's really interesting to see these high level professional athletes.

[00:20:36] Some of them taking it kind of an opposite approach.

[00:20:39] Where it's like they'll go gangbusters the first couple of months.

[00:20:43] Take some time off to want to rest their body and then trying wrapped it up in a very short amount of time for the playoffs.

[00:20:51] If you look at the bubble that was the best thing for LeBron.

[00:20:55] Absolutely when he had three months off to just work out stretch not get injured.

[00:21:02] And again we have to put we're going to put an asterisk beside the 98 99 spurs season.

[00:21:08] We got to put an asterisk beside the bubble championship.

[00:21:11] Right so I'm being very honest.

[00:21:14] Do you think it's a worthy championship.

[00:21:18] I think yes because winning is winning.

[00:21:21] Yeah and I still not putting so putting an asterisk beside it doesn't mean it doesn't takes away from.

[00:21:27] The championship.

[00:21:28] It's still a banner now the in season turning whatever that's ridiculous.

[00:21:32] But it's still it's but we put in the asterisk just because saying hey something significant happened this season which changed the flow of again.

[00:21:40] Yeah right so.

[00:21:42] I'm going to put it in turns of okay I'm a high level athlete I'm working hard take a break you can't just flip a switch and go no NBA team no sports team can just flip a switching go even though may seem like it.

[00:21:55] Right those high level teams are operating at a high level the whole way through the same thing with your faith you can just expect to say okay.

[00:22:04] I'm going to play Monday Tuesday Wednesday but I'm going to get high on Thursday I'm drink on Friday and go party on Saturday and then go to church hung over and expect God to do something.

[00:22:15] Right that's counter intuitive.

[00:22:17] Mm-hmm.

[00:22:18] Oh man okay it's coming up the Christmas okay I'm going to just take a two week break from everything going to read my Bible sing the songs always come up to Easter okay I'm going to make sure I fast I'm good Friday.

[00:22:28] I think that you can do all those things and not saying God isn't going to do something because God's God.

[00:22:35] But you're not going to see the same level of growth the same level of opportunity the same level of.

[00:22:44] I'm going to move into your life when compared to being consistent and doing things on a daily basis right it's just like losing weight you look in the mirror every day to you you may think oh man still fatty.

[00:23:00] Right through my style of mind somebody's going to be like what do you.

[00:23:05] You lost some weight and you're going to feel good myself because you're being consistent and the same thing ties to your faith.

[00:23:12] That's good that's good.

[00:23:16] Coach why don't you share I know we didn't put this in the in the thing but why don't you share commercial two on train to invest and then we can say.

[00:23:24] All right let's go switch over here before we switch topics here.

[00:24:03] How to become financially free and similar to what we've been talking about it's not a get rich quick scene scheme.

[00:24:10] It's not something we're going to just turn ten dollars into a million overnight.

[00:24:15] It's about learning principles that are going to set you into a direction where you want to go maybe you want to pay for a wedding maybe when a pay off your student debt maybe you want to set up our in retirement for your kids.

[00:24:28] All sorts of things. [00:24:52] So let's look at topic number two.

[00:24:56] NFL free agencies upon us and already we're seeing claims of some teams tampering in the tampering period which is even weird to me.

[00:25:09] So why don't we look at one of the trends is players switching teams with indivisions which is really strange in this brand new world of sports.

[00:25:21] What are your thoughts on that? Where's the team loyalty does that matter team loyalty goes out the window and the team don't want to pay you when the team don't put their faith in you the biggest one I think is a sick bond.

[00:25:33] And then he was there often he was like people are saying he's 30% of their offense but really he's like way more than that because a him just being a threat on the field is is opens up the passing game for them.

[00:25:49] So for him not to spend the dollar bills on him is maybe they're saying he's passed his prime on his way out.

[00:25:56] I don't think he's quite there. I think he's a few good years after the events still some average years after that.

[00:26:01] So Philadelphia jumped all over that and now they have one of the best offense. They already had one of the best offenses makes me sick in all of football.

[00:26:10] Now they have say quam bark lead to the team jalen heards AJ Brown to Montes Smith their tight end.

[00:26:19] It's it's dialas got her yeah, it's like they're deadly now they're absolutely deadly and say quam is just going to salivate at the chance to play in the New York Giants the next two the next two games of every year going forward.

[00:26:35] I think it's really interesting because that one particularly so sorry why I'm your teams really getting worse but that one is is particularly interesting because he did take up a lot of

[00:26:52] room and I say room it's defensive focused on him. Who's that on Jones going to throw to who's going to who's going to bail him out when the pocket collapses.

[00:27:06] The second one is going to a team where doesn't have to be the number one option.

[00:27:11] Right and I will you see what like look at Christian McCaffrey what happened with him. He moves the 49ers if they've multiple weapons all of a sudden he's got an easier way to put up numbers.

[00:27:25] We see this across sports all the time good players on bad teams move to a move to a really good team and your rigging this is a good example in unlocks their potential.

[00:27:36] We see that Atlanta is looking to capitalize on a week division.

[00:27:42] Is that in Kirk Cousins? Given him 90 million guaranteed. That's a lot of money.

[00:27:48] Can Baker maybe on the box keep up does norlands even have a chance I don't know I think this is.

[00:27:56] I think pits might actually get some balls thrown his way there you go. That's nasty that's a nasty line up they got there.

[00:28:06] Atlanta is deadly huge I think a huge huge sunny if Kirk did not Kirk's coming off on a killie's injury and he is a very vanilla guy but I love I love everything Kirk cousins and I hope they I hope they do great I really do.

[00:28:23] I think he's coming they said he'll be back by mid July so I give him a lot of time to get reps in and we'll see how that goes.

[00:28:34] I think we're looking at Cap.

[00:28:36] I was just going to say they were flirting with the idea of trading for Justin Fields and then all this kind of stuff but I think this is a way better move.

[00:28:43] Way better absolutely it helps accelerate their timeline they're taking an opportunity and moving on with that.

[00:28:51] Titans looking capitalized Calvin Ridley, Paulard being added to the mix.

[00:28:57] Henry is going to Baltimore that's the one that is whoo.

[00:29:03] That's good to him.

[00:29:04] What do you rather have to try to tackle Lamar Jackson or or they give it to the pitcher to Derek Henry and have him coming at you downhill like that is just absolutely deadly.

[00:29:19] It's nightmare for defenses good luck good luck.

[00:29:23] Good luck Texan's yeah I mean Titans could be could be a force they actually so.

[00:29:29] I just don't trust their quarterback play to be honest like will love us is out there guy.

[00:29:35] Yeah he did it right.

[00:29:37] He's all right.

[00:29:39] I can't do it.

[00:29:41] The game Davis I don't know how reliable he is like he's missed a ton of games.

[00:29:46] I think he's a huge pick up in a huge loss for the J. Guards so I think that's that's another story there of addition by subtraction as well.

[00:29:56] Yeah Texans adding Joe mix and.

[00:30:00] He's really accelerated that build yes yes.

[00:30:06] The one of the half game.

[00:30:09] That's crazy.

[00:30:10] That's incredible.

[00:30:11] I mean got the the paths.

[00:30:12] What are you doing?

[00:30:13] What is a Gerard Mayo going to do it number three.

[00:30:16] They're really clean house a big town.

[00:30:20] Post bell check errors just.

[00:30:22] It's it's it's still pretty mind blowing that bill bell check doesn't have a job.

[00:30:27] Like as much as I do not like the Patriots he's still.

[00:30:31] Yeah has to be considered the coach of the best coach of all time right like he's done it.

[00:30:36] Absolutely.

[00:30:37] And I think part of that to is not the right opportunity as well.

[00:30:41] Yeah potentially for sure.

[00:30:43] The Dahls job came open I think he would have jumped on that.

[00:30:47] Yeah that's that's probably after this year.

[00:30:51] Sadly to say.

[00:30:53] Yeah the Cowboys finally made their first signing after Jerry Jones says I'm all in this year.

[00:30:59] But let's all the running backs.

[00:31:01] The positions we need to to go to other teams go within the conference even like say come and then we finally made a signing of a I think I don't know maybe a more on the aging end of linebacker.

[00:31:14] So yeah we were praying for a draft class of greatness here so who knows.

[00:31:20] You know that's you're though right.

[00:31:23] That's what we'll see that's what we play the game.

[00:31:26] That's what play the game.

[00:31:27] So one thing we're talking about is on the faith side aiming for target.

[00:31:36] Right we know the end game is glory and god of heaven.

[00:31:41] And then a fell.

[00:31:44] What what the really separate teams that are that win and lose is of course scoring touchdowns but how they get there.

[00:31:55] Right team that can eat up a clock get multiple first downs in a variety of ways.

[00:32:03] And then score is more likely going to win than a team that relies on one or two three and out before this court.

[00:32:13] Right rushing and being it so how does how does being.

[00:32:18] As sorry as let me phrase it this way as a as a Christ follower.

[00:32:22] How should you aim your focus on the end goal?

[00:32:30] You know we're called to walk.

[00:32:31] We've been talking about it a little bit already like daily steps of following and living out our our our faith you know for men especially you know we have a lot of different challenges we face you know I I try every morning to say you know.

[00:32:47] Lord God my eyes my mind my hands my feet let them walk according to your plan.

[00:32:53] Because I know when my plan if I let it go with my way I'm going to end up doing things that aren't of him you know I'm going to look at things that I shouldn't and I'm going to act the way I shouldn't and all that kind of stuff right it's an incremental step just like we talked about incremental steps for ramping up your minutes to the NBA it's incremental steps to get to a touch up it's more important you for you to get first down.

[00:33:15] That's the number one goal right you you get your first down first that's the goal of your set of downs don't worry about the touch on the touchdown you keep doing that you're going to get there and and and not all that obviously you're not going to score every time but it actually keeps camaraderie as a whole like your offensive line is not going to be disheartened from you as changing the field position by getting three first downs when you're on the one yard line right it's it's a it's a team thing of of growing and and the pursuit of the first down and when you look at it in incremental step.

[00:33:44] In incremental steps that's where you see.

[00:33:48] The the mass of growth you know I think Kobe actually put it the best way Kobe said you know you see guys at talk about you know jumping elevating their game from from.

[00:33:59] From greatness to legendary you know he said for himself he said for what he learned from Jordan as well as that he put in the the extra hour two hours a day other than the other greats and and you add that up over over 10 15 20 year time right that's.

[00:34:14] How much more time that he has spent training pushing himself more than anyone else right and it's the incremental steps that lead to the.

[00:34:25] Huge growth and that's what it is with your Christian journey as well.

[00:34:32] Yeah I think.

[00:34:33] You're talking closely we talked about the first segment and focusing on hey I'm I'm going to make a mistake no one's perfect.

[00:34:44] You're going to go three and out sometimes.

[00:34:47] There's other times you're going to go all the way in score.

[00:34:51] And it's put understanding.

[00:34:54] What your what the end game is and how you're getting there and and realizing okay I made a mistake this way.

[00:35:01] I recognize it's a mistake which is step for one which is great.

[00:35:05] I really avoid that again what kind of what kind of checks and balances can I put in place how can I change the playbook you know to get me to where I want to go.

[00:35:15] And I think you know having somebody like a mentor having a.

[00:35:20] And I know.

[00:35:22] A prayer group or a life group that you attend and stronding yourself with positivity.

[00:35:30] And even just saying in the morning is like you're saying pray for yourself hey God this is this is my day I'm happy eight number one God thanks for that we have another day here on earth.

[00:35:38] And number two let you will be done today.

[00:35:41] And just starting the day off like that helps set the tone for okay.

[00:35:46] I'm looking to get my first down.

[00:35:48] Looking at my first down looking at my first down and it helps you at least for me I think.

[00:35:56] Helps you understand hey look this is an opportunity to go for it.

[00:36:01] I've consistently knocked off my first downs.

[00:36:04] I'm maybe a much 30 art line maybe God's coming go for that stuff talk to that person about church.

[00:36:12] Pray for this person.

[00:36:17] Take that step of faith.

[00:36:20] And you go for it because you've kind of built confidence and hey you know I go my first downs God's been with me.

[00:36:27] I feel this is my call to.

[00:36:29] Try something go for it.

[00:36:33] And yeah I think just like NFL's you have to find the right opportunity and understand hey this is the right play to call at this moment in time to score touchdown.

[00:36:44] Yeah and I think another thing to that ties into this is surrender you know like quarterbacks then are able to know went to throw the ball away or no went to take a sack you know and and no went not to they is.

[00:36:59] They have so much more success because they know there's a bigger go ahead right the goals to get that first down not about this one play you know play colors if they're going for it.

[00:37:09] If the focus is touchdown they're going to be calling Hail Mary is going to be calling all these plays that are really not really are really not very percentage wise good plays to call right they're not going to be that successful.

[00:37:22] But when you when you're able to surrender and you and he looked at in terms of your own life right what are you able to serve or what are you.

[00:37:29] So going to surrender for God right are you gonna surrender somewhere you time or or some of your your your the money that you have or or maybe it's something that you have been doing maybe I'm going to take time off of playing video games this is speaking for myself here playing video games for a few hours and and I'm going to dedicate that to whatever whatever whatever God wants me to do right so I think surrender plays a big piece in this role as well.

[00:37:56] It's it's another aspect of.

[00:38:01] Part of the journey and living and and serving where it's it's because not all the times are we're going to have an opportunity to just go in and pray over someone right maybe God's trying to do something within you so I think that's important as well.

[00:38:16] That's why you know when you're going to head yeah I was just going to say that's why you see you see that in CJ stroud and and how he plays and lives it out right he literally is so much sure in how he plays it's a mature player it's a mature quarterback who knows went to throw the ball away some mature quarterback that knows went to to just just dump it off right.

[00:38:37] That that you'll see that grow in yourself in your in your journey of faith as as you practice that more.

[00:38:46] Absolutely absolutely I could know knowing your playbook means taking time to read it and practice it walk it through and.

[00:38:56] You can do some of that stuff on your own sure but it helps you have a team together to provide that support come Rotterie to build you up help pick you up when you fall.

[00:39:07] A lot of times you'll see quarterback's getting sacked most the online comes to pick him up and versus the guy who gets does the sacking he's usually celebrating by himself right so.

[00:39:21] I think having that having that camaraderie having that group is really important for success so I'll flip it to you last words anything you want to.

[00:39:37] You know, I think that's a good thing.

[00:39:41] Cap off or maybe a verse or something next coming to your mind.

[00:39:46] You know, bozers yeah.

[00:39:49] It's due to the enemy 10 that's kind of been on my mind that kind of spurred the conversation is you know.

[00:39:52] And if you want to look at the parallel line with your friends, do your own target.

[00:39:59] For the first time that's what does the Lord your God require of you only to fear the Lord your God to walk in all his ways to love him to serve the Lord your God without your heart will follow us all your mind.

[00:40:03] Keeping the commandments of the Lord your God and and and the way you do that like we said is is not this.

[00:40:16] We train our body every single day.

[00:40:18] You got to eat what's right.

[00:40:20] There's three portions to it.

[00:40:21] You got to eat what's right?

[00:40:22] You got to sleep enough.

[00:40:23] You have to drink enough water.

[00:40:25] You have to exercise.

[00:40:25] I guess it's for you talk about there.

[00:40:28] I think eating and drinking kind of go together.

[00:40:30] So there's three.

[00:40:31] And what you consume,

[00:40:34] and it's the same practice you got to put it

[00:40:36] into your daily walk.

[00:40:38] And that's a point of why we want to do this podcast.

[00:40:42] We love sports.

[00:40:43] We see such, we've learned such of these lessons.

[00:40:46] So deeply through sports and through different coaches and mentors

[00:40:50] that we've had in our lives as well.

[00:40:51] And we want that to be an encouragement for you,

[00:40:54] encouragement to help others along the way,

[00:40:56] encouragement to help yourself along the way,

[00:40:59] and to see you grow in your Christian walk.

[00:41:03] So that's why we do this sports reference podcast.

[00:41:07] Yeah, absolutely.

[00:41:08] Absolutely.

[00:41:10] Great.
