Word for the Year 2025

[00:00:42] Happy New Year and welcome to 2025.

[00:00:46] As has been my custom over the last few years, I chose a word to direct my focus for the year.

[00:00:54] Past examples include boundaries and completion.

[00:00:59] Most abandon New Year's resolutions in the first weeks of the new year.

[00:01:04] So, I tried to focus on a big picture word with smaller, smart goals.

[00:01:11] Smart meaning specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound to get her done as we say here in Texas.

[00:01:23] This year my word is grow.

[00:01:28] And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and favor with God and man.

[00:01:35] Luke 2 52

[00:01:39] But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

[00:01:44] To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

[00:01:50] Amen.

[00:01:51] 2 Peter 3 18

[00:01:54] Now I can't do anything about the stature, being a short gal.

[00:01:59] But stature as in a good reputation seems like a good way to frame the goal.

[00:02:05] And growing in favor with God and man, and increasing in my knowledge of God's word,

[00:02:10] that's always a noble endeavor.

[00:02:14] I'm linking a few resources for you today to aid you in this goal, should it be yours as well.

[00:02:29] There are also pens that won't bleed through.

[00:02:33] I've also included a free Bible reading plan generator so you can choose the Bible version you prefer,

[00:02:39] along with a time frame, the T in smart goals,

[00:02:43] and whether traditional or chronological and other options to make it your own.

[00:02:50] As you know, I'm a reader.

[00:02:52] I hit my goal of 300 books for 2024 and even exceeded it by four.

[00:03:00] And I'm a little more than halfway through my first book of 2025, if I can stop ugly crying as it's a tearjerker.

[00:03:10] But not everyone is a reader.

[00:03:13] They say we retain more if we can choose a multiplicity of ways to ingest or consume the information.

[00:03:21] Hearing it, reading it, and writing seems to encode it into the brain faster.

[00:03:27] To that end, a friend of mine does Bible copy work and scripture memorization.

[00:03:33] I've linked two sources for that sort of work.

[00:03:36] It also helps to have some accountability.

[00:03:39] So, team up with a friend or group from church or some other way to get support and encouragement from your tribe.

[00:03:49] Yes, I want to grow spiritually, but I'm also working on emotional regulation,

[00:03:55] given the rigidity with OCD and accompanying low frustration tolerance.

[00:04:01] I'm linking two absolute mood busters.

[00:04:14] And grapefruit just can't be beat for helping create an uplifting environment.

[00:04:20] My favorite thing is to sprinkle a few drops in the corners of my shower.

[00:04:26] Spa-like, I'm telling you.

[00:04:27] And lavender is my go-to for calm.

[00:04:32] I've just discovered a lavender sandalwood body wash that is a total game changer for a scent profile.
