[00:00:42] In an episode last week, we discussed the role of peacemakers. Tonight, in our family Bible study in James, we discussed chapter 3 and the tongue. Often, in our spirited discussions with others, we listen only to respond rather than to really understand.

[00:01:03] We can win the battle, yet lose the war. We can beat someone over the head with scripture to win the point being made, but turn them off to Christianity altogether by our poor example and attitude.

[00:01:20] In my origin story episode I shared that I had a very mean, snarky and cutting mouth. Though I've cleaned up the salty language completely, I still struggle with a sharp tongue.

[00:01:35] I tried to be mindful of it because I do want to poor kindness and compassion into others, rather than vitriol. There's an off-told story of the dad trying to teach his son an object lesson. He had the boy hammer nails into some wood, then removed the nails.

[00:01:57] He said, our words are like that. We can't completely restore the holes our words leave. Philippians 2-3 says, do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but a humility consider others more important than yourselves. Further, in Matthew 2016, we're told,

[00:02:21] so the last will be first and the first last. Our meme for today says, often we are tempted to sacrifice a long-term investment in a soul because we want the quick satisfaction of being right. Don't do it. Thanks for listening to Momo 634.
