[00:00:00] How an often overlooked narrative in the Bible reminds us of God's never-failing promises. Tune in!

[00:00:43] In our midweek Bible study, we're in the book of Genesis. At the end of chapter 20, Abraham has lied again about Sarah being his sister to avoid any sort of reprisals.
[00:00:58] Abraham discusses their genealogy and they appear to be half-siblings, but she is definitely his wife.
[00:01:06] The text tells us this half-truth, or lie of omission, was perpetuated many times, not just in the two occasions recorded thus far in Genesis.
[00:01:19] Verse 13 recounts Abraham's instructions to Sarah,
[00:01:28] So the question was posed, after reading about all the loot Abraham amassed, again, after his lie, why would God reward his bad behavior?
[00:01:43] I came to the conclusion that it had nothing to do with Abraham and everything to do with God.
[00:01:50] What I mean by that is that God made a covenant with Abraham.
[00:01:56] He spelled out what he would do and what he wanted Abraham to do.
[00:02:01] Whether Abraham fulfilled his duty or not, God was going to fulfill his, as he always does, because he is righteous, just, and true to his word.
[00:02:17] Hebrews 6.18 tells us it is impossible for God to lie.
[00:02:23] So yes, he keeps his end of the deal, regardless of what we do.
[00:02:29] We can take that promise to heart in our dealings with him also.
[00:02:35] He told us in Acts 2.38 that if we repent and are baptized, he will forgive us of our sins and give us the gift of the Holy Spirit.
[00:02:48] Even if we mess up, because as humans we will.
[00:02:52] He will keep his word.
[00:02:55] We will be saved.
[00:02:57] When we sin again, and we will as frail humans, if we confess our sins to each other and pray for each other, not only does he forgive,
[00:03:09] he chooses to blot out the very remembrance of our sins, as indicated by a number of verses.
[00:03:16] It was a good lesson for a day when the overwhelm was relentless again due to the compulsive speech OCD discussed in the recent episode, New Self-Discovery.
[00:03:31] Our meme for today says,
[00:03:33] God will always be true to his word, even when we are not.
