[00:00:00] No, not that season, but it's getting closer and it's important to be ready for its traveling
[00:00:07] companion. Tune in for what it is and how best to prepare.
[00:00:16] Hello and welcome to MoMo634, the daily podcast chock full of faith-filled inspiration and
[00:00:24] motivation. Please like, share, and subscribe. MoMo634, Motivational Moments, Just for
[00:00:32] today. Every year, like clockwork, pun intended, many around the world deal with the effects
[00:00:54] of Seasonal Affective Disorder, known by its acronym S.A.A.D. It often occurs as days get
[00:01:03] shorter and exacerbated by the time change. If you are one of the many who suffer from this
[00:01:10] annually, you are not alone. Here are some tips to prepare now before depression can rob
[00:01:17] you of your energy and you fall into its lethargy.
[00:01:22] 1. Make sure if you take medication for mood disorders that you have your meds and that
[00:01:30] you have refills left. And if you need lab work or a doctor's visit to obtain those refills,
[00:01:37] schedule those appointments now. Mental wellness visits or even visits to a primary care doctor
[00:01:44] during flu season can have lengthy wait times. And of course, take those medications as prescribed
[00:01:52] or supplements used under your doctor's care. Be sure to set alarms if needed to ensure a consistent
[00:02:01] schedule. 2. I have linked the previous episode dedicated to SAD on the Substack site because in our home,
[00:02:10] we have a light therapy box, a vital tool in the fight against SAD. 3. Plan for exercise. With weather
[00:02:21] changes, it's all too easy to skip a workout. And with the lethargy mentioned already, it's harder to work up the
[00:02:30] gotta needed to keep to a routine. There are a number of apps and videos online for simple home workout
[00:02:38] routines and equipment using the things you have around your house. Gamify it if you have to.
[00:02:45] These are the big three, but of course, there are other things one can and should do, such as meal
[00:02:53] prepping healthy meals for days you can't or don't want to cook. Talking to friends who can check in
[00:02:59] with you and creating an action plan in concert with your therapist, etc. Check out the episode linked as
[00:03:07] well as our resources for World Mental Health Day last year and which will be coming up again next week.
[00:03:15] Proverbs 6, 6-8 extols the virtues of preparation.
[00:03:22] Walk in the manner of the ant, O slacker. Observe its ways and become wise. Without a commander,
[00:03:30] without an overseer or ruler, it prepares its provisions in summer. It gathers its food at harvest.
[00:03:38] Our meme for today says, Even when it's dark, the sun, S-O-N, still shines. If you are a sufferer
[00:03:49] of seasonal affective disorder, what are your go-to tips? Comment below.
