The Sound of Silence: Noise-Filtering Earplug Review Update

[00:00:00] Six weeks after my initial review, here's the update on the Noise Filtering Earbud Purchase I made. Tune in for my final verdict.

[00:00:42] Recently, I did an episode on some noise filtering earplugs I purchased. At that time, I said that I would update the review once I had more to report, and if the purchase passed the remaining tests, I would link and recommend them.

[00:00:59] While I'm still not the biggest fan of hearing my heartbeat in my head, these plugs really do do the trick.

[00:01:08] I hadn't really slept with them at the time of the initial review, other than for cat naps, but I have since then.

[00:01:16] Not only did I sleep, and sleep well, I didn't hear my husband's alarm, nor did I hear him move about in the room in preparation for his day.

[00:01:28] If the alarm or movement don't wake me, usually I stir when he leaves the room or returns.

[00:01:35] Not with these babies, and nope.

[00:01:39] I thought it would bother me not to hear sounds, but I actually can still hear some things, depending on the level of deep sleep.

[00:01:49] And there are seven sizes of ear tips, so I can go up a size or so to hear yet more.

[00:01:56] Which leads me to another experiment.

[00:01:58] As you may know from the Rooster Protocol Intervention episode, I am prone to migraines.

[00:02:06] I've been curious about claims that a certain type of earplug can help with barometric pressure-induced migraines.

[00:02:14] I wondered if the ones I purchased might help, knowing that they weren't specifically marketed that way, nor did they house the internal filter the weather plugs did.

[00:02:24] That said, the research I did said that if the quality of the seal made by the earplug is good, there could be some efficacy.

[00:02:34] So I did try it, and had a good result.

[00:02:37] Now, it was only one time, and I had taken half a dose of over-the-counter migraine tabs.

[00:02:44] So there's still much research to be conducted on that point.

[00:02:48] The only things I count as a con are that the case doesn't have room for the lanyard, the lanyard I mentioned in my initial review.

[00:02:56] So I have to remove it each time.

[00:02:59] So I've just abandoned it.

[00:03:02] Mostly due to the fact that it bonked against my clothing and made noise inside my head.

[00:03:07] And the other con can be best described as stormtrooper syndrome.

[00:03:13] Remember in Star Wars Episode IV when the stormtroopers were walking on the metal grate above Han, Leia, and Luke?

[00:03:20] When they went to rescue her from the cell block?

[00:03:22] That clink, clink, clink sound?

[00:03:26] That's what I hear inside my head when I walk with these babies in.

[00:03:30] However, given that I usually use them when I'm trying to narrow distractions while working, or while sleeping,

[00:03:38] neither of which involve walking, it's not a deal-breaker.

[00:03:42] I've also washed them, and they're super easy to clean and maintain.

[00:03:48] Therefore, I consider these a success.

[00:03:51] They were a fraction of the cost of the two most popular types out there.

[00:03:56] I really wanted to purchase from an American manufacturer and would have waited until Black Friday.

[00:04:04] However, I have really small ear canals, and the fact that these boasted seven eartip sizes was the selling point for me.

[00:04:13] Though the ad says eight, perhaps alluding to the feature that combines sizes for different experiences similar to the big brands.

[00:04:22] If they had been cheapo and not worked, I would have been willing to pony up for the more expensive brands.

[00:04:29] But overall, I'm happy I gave these a try and hope you find them to be a blessing as well.
