00:00:00 --> 00:00:01 During this time of the year,

00:00:02 --> 00:00:04 we love to revisit stories we grew up with.

00:00:05 --> 00:00:09 Today we discuss the events surrounding the real Black Friday.

00:00:09 --> 00:00:10 Tune in!

00:00:13 --> 00:00:14 Hello,

00:00:14 --> 00:00:16 and welcome to MOMO 634,

00:00:16 --> 00:00:21 the daily podcast chock-full of faith-filled inspiration and motivation.

00:00:22 --> 00:00:24 Please like, share, and subscribe.

00:00:25 --> 00:00:27 Momo 634.

00:00:27 --> 00:00:30 Motivational moments just for today.

00:00:30 --> 00:00:34 I'm going to date myself here and tell you that I lived B.C.,

00:00:50 --> 00:00:51 No, not B.C.

00:00:51 --> 00:00:53 as in the time before Christ,

00:00:54 --> 00:00:55 as my youngest believed,

00:00:55 --> 00:00:58 when he asked me if I was older than Moses.

00:00:59 --> 00:01:02 Or when my daughter asked me if I rode a dinosaur to school.

00:01:03 --> 00:01:07 Though, in all fairness, I used to joke that I did, hence the question.

00:01:08 --> 00:01:08 No,

00:01:08 --> 00:01:12 I mean BC as in before computers,

00:01:12 --> 00:01:16 at least the personal computers we've come to know and rely upon.

00:01:17 --> 00:01:21 We did have ginormous computers back in the day.

00:01:21 --> 00:01:25 They took up whole rooms and only had five kilobytes of memory.

00:01:26 --> 00:01:30 I'd go visit them at Lawrence Livermore Labs on school field

00:01:30 --> 00:01:31 trips back in the Bay

00:01:31 --> 00:01:32 Area of California,

00:01:32 --> 00:01:33 where I grew up.

00:01:34 --> 00:01:37 Thus, with the advent of portable personal computers,

00:01:38 --> 00:01:42 It's been a couple of decades since I've woken up at oh dark 30

00:01:42 --> 00:01:44 to go Black Friday shopping.

00:01:44 --> 00:01:48 But today is not the first or only Black Friday.

00:01:49 --> 00:01:51 Literal Black Friday.

00:01:52 --> 00:01:57 No, that day occurred over 2 years ago.

00:01:58 --> 00:02:00 Listen to the account in Luke 23, 44-47.

00:02:04 --> 00:02:06 It was now about the sixth hour,

00:02:06 --> 00:02:09 and darkness came over all the land until the ninth hour.

00:02:11 --> 00:02:12 The sun was darkened,

00:02:12 --> 00:02:15 and the veil of the temple was torn down the middle.

00:02:16 --> 00:02:19 Then Jesus called out in a loud voice,

00:02:19 --> 00:02:20 Father,

00:02:20 --> 00:02:23 into your hands I commit my spirit.

00:02:25 --> 00:02:28 And when he had said this, he breathed his last.

00:02:29 --> 00:02:32 Now when the centurion saw what had taken place,

00:02:33 --> 00:02:34 he praised God,

00:02:34 --> 00:02:35 saying,

00:02:35 --> 00:02:38 Certainly this man was innocent.

00:02:40 --> 00:02:43 It's crazy to think about the mob scene on that Black Friday

00:02:44 --> 00:02:45 calling for the death

00:02:45 --> 00:02:46 of an innocent man.

00:02:46 --> 00:02:53 The crazed throngs of today scuffle over material items priced

00:02:53 --> 00:02:55 unbelievably low or

00:02:55 --> 00:03:00 come with a free gift for the first X number of people in line.

00:03:01 --> 00:03:03 But on the Black Friday I'm talking about,

00:03:04 --> 00:03:05 there was also a free gift,

00:03:06 --> 00:03:08 and it was available to everyone.

00:03:10 --> 00:03:13 One guy was smart enough to claim it on that day.

00:03:13 --> 00:03:17 It would be weeks before the day of Pentecost when a sermon

00:03:18 --> 00:03:19 simple enough for

00:03:19 --> 00:03:24 unlearned Galileans to preach that many from that earlier

00:03:24 --> 00:03:26 crazed mob finally

00:03:26 --> 00:03:30 understood the import of this free gift.

00:03:31 --> 00:03:35 They asked then what so many have asked in the intervening

00:03:35 --> 00:03:38 years and what we should ask today.

00:03:39 --> 00:03:40 What should we do?

00:03:41 --> 00:03:44 And the answer is still the same.

00:03:45 --> 00:03:46 Peter replied,

00:03:46 --> 00:03:48 Repent and be baptized,

00:03:48 --> 00:03:49 every one of you,

00:03:50 --> 00:03:51 in the name of Jesus Christ,

00:03:52 --> 00:03:54 for the forgiveness of your sins,

00:03:54 --> 00:03:57 and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

00:03:58 --> 00:04:02 This promise belongs to you and to your children and to all who

00:04:03 --> 00:04:03 are far off.

00:04:04 --> 00:04:08 to all whom the Lord our God will call to himself.

00:04:09 --> 00:04:09 Acts 2, 38 and 39

00:04:13 --> 00:04:16 So on this day, the world calls Black Friday.

00:04:17 --> 00:04:21 Harken back to the real Black Friday and get your free gift.

00:04:22 --> 00:04:24 Our meme for today says,

00:04:24 --> 00:04:30 the best gift ever given to mankind occurred on a Black Friday.

00:04:30 --> 00:04:34 It was free then, and it is free now.

00:04:37 --> 00:04:42 Thanks for listening to Momo 634, motivational moments just for today.
