[00:00:31] I have frequently mentioned that I am a voracious reader.
[00:00:50] For those following my literary journey this year, I've completed 240 books.
[00:00:58] I'm also a nitter. There are project nitters and process nitters.
[00:01:04] The former focus on project completion, whereas the latter into which camp I fall,
[00:01:11] are about the experience of knitting. The feel of the yarn, the meditative rhythmic sound of clapping needles
[00:01:19] and the mental space created by repetitive motion allowing one to zone out.
[00:01:26] Some garden, I have a black thumb because the feel of the soil beneath their hands,
[00:01:33] the smell of the dirt and the pride of growth is much like those sensory benefits found for me through knitting.
[00:01:43] Others play an instrument. Again, a sensory experience combining sound, repetitive motion,
[00:01:51] an mental process that is part wrote, escape, and dedicated precision.
[00:01:57] In all of this, the mind is given a reprieve so that it can process the day's events,
[00:02:05] much like the role of dreams described in the episode, dream a little dream.
[00:02:11] We know that several of the apostles were fishermen. Though their livelihood,
[00:02:17] fishing is also a hobby that meets these parameters.
[00:02:21] The proverb 31 woman made garments for her household, like Dorcus in Acts,
[00:02:28] made clothing for the widows and Lydia was a dire.
[00:02:33] It's good to have some sort of hobby or craft as a creative outlet,
[00:02:38] as well as a way to ruminate and even benefit our families,
[00:02:43] whether as a side gig or providing a tangible, commissible, or product.
[00:02:49] Our meme for today says, like play is the work of children?
[00:02:54] Hobbies must be where our minds have the untethered freedom to dream, relax and problem solve.
