[00:00:43] In our over nine and a half months together, I've not only stressed the need for a rainy day toolkit to get through Ruffmental Health days, I've shared items in my own toolkit here. Now I have a new one to add.
[00:00:59] I helped rescue a Momicaat and her litter over 20 years ago. I adopted one of the kittens and had her for an incredible 18, almost 19 years. I mourn her for a very long time when she passed away. In fact, I'm still mourning.
[00:01:20] We lost her at the same week we lost my mom's sister and the mom of what my husband's dearest friends from childhood. After her passing, I was convinced I'd never have another cat again.
[00:01:35] I thought about volunteering but the thought just gutted me, thinking it would make me miss my girl even more. She was so tuned in to my moods, though she was pretty anti-social with most everyone else. It was clear that she got me.
[00:01:55] She really was like an emotional support kitty because on Ruffdays, she would stay very nearby and check on me frequently. However recently some friends had a litter of kitties that needed good homes and we fell in love with one of them.
[00:02:13] This little girl is a snuggler, a codler and she just looks at me walking into the room and it's like a motorcycle, the loud purring I hear. Some days I pick her up and just hold her while she purrs and similar to one of my other
[00:02:34] tools I've mentioned, my loud, drummy, Spotify playlist that knocks my miss firing neurons back into line, there's something about the purr of a kitten that instantly calms me. The sermon on the mount invokes a number of scenes where God provides for these of his littleist creatures.
[00:02:57] I believe it's because he knows the therapeutic effect our furry and feathered friends have upon us. Aiksa Bay has free sound files or better yet, volunteer to be a kitty snuggler. Many rescues need socializers before a kitten can be adopted.
[00:03:19] Like pure lavender in a room of therapy is known to cross the central nervous system quickly, so too it feels like kitten purrs do the same for me and immediately put me into such a calm state.
[00:03:37] So even if you're allergic, you can pull up videos or sound files so you can reap the benefits. It may seem a little far-fetched but it's one of the best tools yet for an instant calming effect.
