[00:00:00] When you are dealing with extreme circumstances, remembering the one who blaze the trail of trials before us can help. Tune in!

[00:00:31] With the return of a depressive episode, I'll be vulnerable enough to admit I'm really struggling.

[00:00:55] I came across this verse online today from an author that I follow.

[00:01:01] Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say?

[00:01:06] Father, save me from this hour? No, it is for this purpose that I have come to this hour.

[00:01:13] Father, glorify your name! Then a voice came from heaven. I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.

[00:01:22] John 12, 27, and 28.

[00:01:28] Especially with the focus on the resurrection of Jesus this week, most of us are familiar with the request by Jesus to have the cup of the crucifixion removed from him.

[00:01:40] How Christ dealt with this situation provides a blueprint for us in dealing with trials and a purpose to our pain.

[00:01:50] First, Jesus prayed earnestly to the Father. He woke up early as was his practice. Or sometimes he went at night. Often he went to a quiet place and prayed.

[00:02:05] Not just a few sentences, and not filled with I want statements. In fact, the only thing recorded that I can think of that he ever asked for himself was to have the barbaric and torturous death by crucifixion removed from him.

[00:02:24] In fact, that is point number two. He focused on others. His last prayers were for his disciples and that God be glorified.

[00:02:36] Experts have shared that helping others in the midst of pain is helpful in shifting one's focus and in staying connected.

[00:02:47] Thirdly, Jesus pointed to God. I've shared that one of my favorite passages is Second Corinthians 12, 9 and 10, which says,

[00:03:01] But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you. My power is perfected in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses so that the power of Christ may rest on me.

[00:03:18] That is why for the sake of Christ I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak then I am strong.

[00:03:34] When others know of our difficult circumstances yet commend our attitude, we are helping to point others to God and glorifying Him in our trials.

[00:03:48] There is a purpose to our pain. It helps us rely and depend upon God. It helps us transcend this life and focus on the one that matters.

[00:04:01] Far beyond this earthly plane and it points others to the power source they can apply to for their pain points.

[00:04:12] Our meme for today says we can glory in pain, persecution and problems because Jesus did.
