[00:00:46] Experts often talk about keeping our minds active as a way to prevent a number of age-related issues.

[00:00:53] They talk about word games, reading, or any number of things to keep us engaged and functioning optimally.

[00:01:01] I have a deep and abiding love for lifelong learning.

[00:01:06] So far this year, I'm at 116 books read already.

[00:01:12] Over the years of my life, I've undertaken a number of courses of study apart from my major in college.

[00:01:19] I've wanted to learn so many different things and because of the amazing technological age we live in,

[00:01:26] there's nothing holding us back.

[00:01:29] Did you know that in many areas of the country, people 55 and older can go back to college for free?

[00:01:36] Check with your local community college or university.

[00:01:40] A library card has always been free and the resources available are staggering and they're adding to them daily.

[00:01:49] In my little part of Texas, our city library has access to job resources, genealogical databases,

[00:01:57] tons of reference materials, legal forms, newspapers and periodicals from around the world,

[00:02:04] language modules and access to a number of courses through Udemy and other noted online academies.

[00:02:11] Udemy, among others, offer business courses and certifications that normally have fees attached

[00:02:18] but because you're accessing them through the library, they are completely free.

[00:02:24] Our county library is much bigger and is a portal to other libraries to get access to more information and books.

[00:02:32] Many libraries have interlibrary loans which have a nominal fee attached,

[00:02:38] but larger libraries have access via their apps and portals to additional libraries making those fees almost unnecessary or obsolete.

[00:02:49] Many libraries may charge a fee to out of area patrons, but most will allow free use if you meet certain criteria.

[00:02:58] For me, I took a long career break after homeschooling my kids.

[00:03:03] I developed some soft skills so I applied for an internship to give me the hard skills to pair with my life experience.

[00:03:12] Last year, I got a scholarship and went through a certificate program for project management.

[00:03:18] I'm currently going through a course for digital marketing.

[00:03:21] This is on top of trying to reach my lifelong goal of language fluency in Spanish and French.

[00:03:28] Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks.

[00:03:32] God created us with intelligence and the capacity for understanding.

[00:03:37] He said, let us make man in our image and no other creation of his has this ability to reason as we do.
