[00:00:00] 80s rocker royalty and current events converge for a doozy of a topic. Tune in for more.
[00:00:10] Hello and welcome to MoMo 634, the daily podcast chock full of faith-filled inspiration and
[00:00:18] motivation. Please like, share, and subscribe. MoMo 634, Motivational Moments just for today.
[00:00:41] There is a meme that never fails to crack me up each time I see it. It says something to the effect
[00:00:48] of, just when you say, my child would never, there they go nevering like never before. I've recently
[00:00:57] stated that I've never discussed politics on this podcast, and here I go again. I cannot count the
[00:01:05] number of people who have recently expressed nervousness to me about the United States
[00:01:09] presidential election. And working in the belly of the beast, or rather the sausage factory, I get it.
[00:01:18] Our title comes from one of my favorite artists back in the day, Pat Benatar. Her album, Get Nervous,
[00:01:25] depicts her in a padded room with a straitjacket on. A European cut of the album has the song,
[00:01:31] Anxiety, Get Nervous. In my six decades on earth, I have lived through a number of presidential
[00:01:39] administrations. Some I have liked, some I have intensely disliked. And in my day job,
[00:01:46] I've actually met and worked for a number of presidential candidates. I even served on an
[00:01:53] advisory board for one of them. They put their pants and pantsuits on just like the rest of us.
[00:02:01] And even though some were leagues better than others, you know what? I'm still here. And so are you.
[00:02:11] Yes, some administrations have made my grocery or electrical bills skyrocket. Some have enabled me to
[00:02:19] buy a home. A few have engaged in costly foreign wars. Yet none has had food rations like we saw in
[00:02:29] world wars. And only under one did we see states selectively choose to ration gasoline. But overall,
[00:02:37] regardless of the increasing political polarization, we've all lived under both administrations we liked,
[00:02:45] the United States, the United States, the United States, the United States. And even some that we were apathetic about.
[00:02:49] And by and large, life went on. No one in Hollywood or anywhere else publicly moved to another country.
[00:02:59] And two years into whomever people voted for, sometimes the midterm elections shifted the balance of power
[00:03:06] the other way. And life went on. Yes, in the previous episode, I said we must vote for godly principles.
[00:03:16] Vote for the best option to live out our faith unhindered and unmolested by the government.
[00:03:22] And for those who would cite separation of church and state, I would remind you that one, that phrase is
[00:03:29] nowhere in our constitution. But rather, a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to the Danbury Baptist Association.
[00:03:37] And two, it's saying government should not establish a state religion, coercing everyone's participation
[00:03:44] in it. Remember why America was founded. Hint, religious persecution. The separation, if you will,
[00:03:53] is to allow communities of faith to operate without intrusion by the government. But I digress. You do not
[00:04:01] have to be best friends with our leaders, though we are commanded to pray for them. In our bonus weekend
[00:04:08] episode for premium subscribers, I suggested we pray and pray regularly for our leaders.
[00:04:15] Those we like, and especially those we do not. So, on the eve of a momentous opportunity,
[00:04:23] pray friends. Pray for our leaders. Pray for our fellow countrymen so that cooler heads prevail.
[00:04:31] Pray for whoever will move into the White House. And pray for the family leaving it.
[00:04:37] Pray for our nation. Pray for each of us to be motivated to work in ways our God approves of regarding kingdom
[00:04:47] issues and living out our lives of faith. You need not be anxious. No matter who occupies the Oval Office,
[00:04:55] God remains on his throne. Read 1 Timothy 2, Romans 13, and the numerous lists of sins cataloged in the New Testament.
[00:05:06] No, there is no perfect candidate, as we said in our last episode, because there isn't any one of us who is perfect.
[00:05:13] In fact, God has used imperfect people. David, the adulterer, Rahab, a prostitute, and Saul,
[00:05:22] a persecutor of the church and responsible for the death of Christians. So don't look at people.
[00:05:29] Look at policy in light of Scripture. Review those lists of things God desires and those he abhors,
[00:05:39] and vote accordingly. Since unlike those in biblical times, we do have some say in who is chosen to lead us.
[00:05:48] Our meme for today simply says, Be for the things God is for. Be against the things he hates. Pray always.
