[00:00:00] One of the themes discussed often on this podcast is having a tribe of one's own. Today we explore another aspect.
[00:00:31] There's a hymn I learned later in life called We Are One. It talks about the harmony and unity we have together in the Lord as believers.
[00:00:58] I thought of this song after a conversation I had today with my daughter in the Lord. Paul had a special relationship with Timothy, calling him his son in the Lord.
[00:01:10] My husband and I had two teens who lived with us at different times in their lives. They were siblings and had some issues at home and begged to stay with us.
[00:01:22] As their family home was just a few blocks away, we agreed. One stayed for a few months, the other for a few years.
[00:01:32] Now in their 40s and with families of their own they are still an integral part of our lives and we consider them our oldest kids.
[00:01:43] In fact, our kids call them by the honorary title used in their native culture and language for oldest sister and oldest brother.
[00:01:52] When they lived with us we were in our early 30s and knew nothing about parenting. However, they still consider us as parent figures and come to us for advice and counsel still.
[00:02:06] Their kids consider us family and we have an extended Bible study online each week with all of our families together.
[00:02:15] But it was a blessing to hear that even though we were young and had a lot to learn, they still hold many of the lessons we taught them close and consider that time with fondness.
[00:02:29] I think that was God's design for the church, that the illustration he gives us in 1 Corinthians 12 of the human body is proven true.
[00:02:40] We need each other to function.
[00:02:43] Our biological families may have dysfunction or disorder but God in His wisdom gives us each other.
[00:02:53] When my own kids reached critical birthdays we held gatherings with older members of the church so that they could build relationships and have other people to go to for wise counsel.
[00:03:06] People often issue the church as organized religion. When in fact, the mechanism brings us closer together to help and support each other through the difficulties, temptations and joys in this life.
[00:03:23] Our devotion to God is important yet our devotion to one another is its fruit.
[00:03:31] By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another, John 1335.
[00:03:41] Our meme for today says there is a perfect blessing in being imperfect together.
