Survivors' Guilt is a multifaceted issue, but in oversimplified terms it's feeling guilty that you survived a traumatic event, like a car crash or coming back from a war where others perished.

[00:01:12] The aspect I want to focus on today is moving on after loss and feeling guilty for doing so. The biggest question to answer is, would our loved ones want us to duck out on the rest of life?

[00:01:28] Or would they want us to embrace an enjoy life, knowing how fleeting it is? Another consideration is our memory banks. Are they loaded up with good memories? Snapshots of a heart to fuel us for the rest of our time here.

[00:01:47] Or do we have regrets to sort through and to strangements to mentally reconcile? Thirdly, is this something time alone will address or is professional help needed such as a therapist or support group to sort through some of the dysfunction?

[00:02:04] I've mentioned a number of times that my grief was the catalyst for this podcast, and I find myself dealing with some aspects of survivor's guilt.

[00:02:16] Not every loss will be one who enjoyed a long life, but in those cases that are, it's helpful to remember the many years with our loved ones and their quality of life.

[00:02:47] Our family is shifting and changing a bit this week as we move through the stages of grief and beyond.

[00:02:55] Starting a new chapter is hard, but I'm aware of every point I've shared with you in this episode, and I'm moving forward, reaching out toward the future, but in a new way consistent with honoring my memories. Philippians 1-3 says,

[00:03:13] I thank my God in all my remembrance of you. Our meme for today says, precious memories isn't just a him. It's a reminder to fully live in the moment so we can cherish the remembrances always. How have you handled survivor's guilt? Let me know in the comments below.
