Strategy for Making Decisions – Part 2
The decisions we make help shape our lives. Often, the struggle lies not just in making the decision itself, but in confidently and faithfully following through. Recently, I faced some significant choices, prompting me to reflect on a devotional from July 2024, "Strategy for Making Decisions" (https://praisepodcast.com/blog/strategy-for-making-decisions). In this second part, I want to focus on walking in obedience after a decision is made, trusting God, and persevering through challenges
Making a decision is one thing, but following through with wisdom and faith is where the real challenge begins. It’s easy to second-guess, get distracted, or even stall in fear. This is why trusting God beyond the decision-making process is crucial.
Here’s how to move forward in obedience after making a decision:
1. Walk in Obedience to God’s Will
James 1:22
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
Once God provides direction, act on it. Sometimes, we pray for clarity, but when the answer comes, we hesitate. Partial or delayed obedience is still disobedience. Step forward in faith, knowing God won’t lead you wrong.
Years ago, I dragged my feet on creating Praisepodcast.com. I prayed, sought wise counsel, and even felt a peace about moving forward—yet I still hesitated. Eventually, I realized my delay was rooted in fear and misunderstanding (not wisdom). Once I took that first step, doors opened that I never could have imagined. God was waiting on me to trust Him enough to act.
2. Seek Continued Wisdom & Counsel
Proverbs 11:14
For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.
Just because a decision has been made doesn’t mean you stop seeking wisdom. Surround yourself with godly mentors and wise counsel who can offer guidance as you move forward.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
3. Stay Spiritually Attuned and Flexible
Isaiah 30:21
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
Decisions often require adjustments. Even after making a choice, stay sensitive to God’s guidance. Maybe He wants you to tweak your approach, slow down, or speed up. If He redirects, don’t resist—trust that He sees the full picture.
4. Persevere Through Challenges
Galatians 6:9
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Just because obstacles arise doesn’t mean you made the wrong decision. Many times, opposition is a sign that you're on the right track. Stay faithful and press through difficulties with endurance.
God told Noah to build the ark, and despite ridicule and years of waiting, he obeyed. His perseverance paid off. What if he would half quit?...
5. Seek Peace as Confirmation
Colossians 3:15
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
A key sign of God’s guidance is peace. If you’re feeling consistent unrest, it might be a sign to pause and seek Him again. But if you have deep, lasting peace, even in uncertainty, trust that He’s leading you in the right direction.
6. Give Thanks and Glorify God
1 Thessalonians 5:18
give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Regardless of how things unfold, thank God. Every decision is an opportunity to learn, grow, and deepen your faith. Even if the outcome isn’t what you expected, God is still working for your good
Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.
Decisions don’t just require wisdom; they require faith in action. If you’ve prayed, sought godly wisdom, and received peace, trust God and move forward. He will never let you down.
Let’s Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your wisdom and guidance in every decision. Help me walk in obedience and trust and perseverance in Your leading. Give me peace when I’m on the right path and the humility to adjust if You redirect me. I trust that You are working all things for my good. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
