Strategy for Making Decisions
Whether big or small, decisions shape our lives. Having a solid strategy rooted in God's Word can make all the difference. Here's a six step biblical approach to decision-making that honors God and aligns with His will.
Start with prayer: Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Start every decision-making process with prayer James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Seek Wisdom from the Bible: Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. The Bible is our guidebook for life. Look to the Bible for wisdom direction and clarity.
Seek Wise Counsel: Proverbs 15:22 Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. Speak with some you trust. Wise counsel can provide new perspectives and insights.
Examine Your Motives and Consider the Consequences: Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Ask God to reveal any selfish or impure intentions and think about the potential outcomes of your decision.
Be Patient and Wait on the Lord: Psalm 27:14 Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. God's timing is perfect. Patience allows us to align our decisions with His plan.
Have Faith and Commit Your Decision to the Lord: Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. Trust Him to guide your steps and thank Him in advance for His blessing. Dedicate your decisions to Him.
