“I try to surrender to God but there are certain things I think I should still handle on my own”
I get it. Before you knew about God, you have been taught to understand that you have to look out for your own best interest because no one else will. I understand you have been doing life this way all along just fine, so there is no need to make a change.
The truth is that God and only God knows every single facet of you. He knows your gifts and talents, your strengths and weaknesses. In fact, He knows every single thing in your life. With this infinite wisdom, doesn’t it make sense to present your hopes and dreams and plans before God? Only He knows which of your plans are aligned with His perfect plans for you. Only He knows what part of your plans are and are not suited for your gifts and strengths. He also knows what plans would lead you to your best life.
