Welcome to our home as we celebrate Christmas. Sit around the Christmas tree with us as we read the Christmas Story from Luke chapter 2.
[00:00:29] Hello again and welcome to the Trim the Wick Podcast. I'm Dan. And I'm Becky. And we have a special Christmas episode for you. We do. You're going to be invited into our living room with what we do every Christmas morning with our kids. That's right. It's a ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. Okay. We don't do jingle bells. Actually, we do have silly banter. So there you go. So our normal Christmas traditions.
[00:00:59] We get up in the morning before we do anything. We gather around the tree and gather around in the living room and do our reading of Luke chapter 2, the Christmas story. That's right. So all of the fun festivities are fantastic. We love the exchanging of gifts and we love the eating of special meals and all the family togetherness. But we start everything with worship.
[00:01:27] That's right. And so this week for Christmas, we want to invite you into our living room as we do a reading of the Christmas story.
[00:01:36] In those days, a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all of the world should be registered.
[00:02:06] This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
[00:02:11] And all went to be registered each to his own town.
[00:02:15] And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem,
[00:02:24] because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.
[00:02:37] And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth.
[00:02:41] And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in the manger,
[00:02:48] because there was no place for them in the manger.
[00:02:52] And in that same region, there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
[00:02:59] And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them.
[00:03:03] And they were filled with great fear.
[00:03:06] And the angel said to them, Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
[00:03:14] For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, one who is Christ the Lord.
[00:03:21] And this will be a sign for you.
[00:03:24] You will find the baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.
[00:03:28] And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of heavenly hosts, praising God and saying,
[00:03:35] Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased.
[00:03:43] When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another,
[00:03:48] Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.
[00:03:56] And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph and the baby lying in a manger.
[00:04:01] And when they had saw it, they had made known the saying that had been told to them concerning this child.
[00:04:07] And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds had told them.
[00:04:11] But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
[00:04:16] And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen as it had been told them.
[00:04:30] So we hope that blessed you.
[00:04:35] And just like the shepherds are praising God as they go away,
[00:04:39] we hope that your Christmas reminds you of the gift that was given.
[00:04:44] And that you spend the rest of your next year praising God.
[00:04:48] Merry Christmas, y'all.
[00:04:50] Okay.
[00:04:51] See you next week.
[00:04:52] Love you.
[00:04:53] Bye-bye.
