Be Thankful

In this special Thanksgiving episode of Morning Glory, Maurice invites you to pause and reflect on the true meaning of the day: gratitude. Drawing from 1 Thessalonians 5:18 and Ephesians 5:20, this devotion offers a heartfelt reminder to give thanks in all circumstances, even when life—or the turkey—doesn’t turn out as planned. With humor, personal examples, and a focus on God’s blessings, Maurice shares six things he’s thankful for and encourages you to count your own blessings. Tune in for a prayerful moment and inspiration to make Thanksgiving a lifestyle, not just a holiday.

[00:00:25] Morning Glory, your daily dose of spiritual nourishment and inspiration.

[00:00:31] Hi, and welcome back to Morning Glory.

[00:00:34] My name is Maurice, and I'm so glad you've joined me today for a special Thanksgiving devotion.

[00:00:39] Thanksgiving isn't just about turkey, football, and trying not to fall asleep before dessert.

[00:00:44] Though, let's be real, dessert is worth staying awake for.

[00:00:49] Today, I want to encourage you to pause, reflect, and really give thanks.

[00:00:54] Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the festivities, or the stress of cooking, that we forget the main theme of Thanksgiving.

[00:01:02] Gratitude.

[00:01:04] Whether you're gathered with family or savoring a quiet moment alone,

[00:01:08] take time today to thank God for His blessings, big and small.

[00:01:15] 1 Thessalonians 5.18 reminds us,

[00:01:24] That means even when the turkey is dry, the pie burns, or the mac and cheese isn't quite right,

[00:01:30] we can still find reasons to be grateful.

[00:01:33] How often do we take things for granted?

[00:01:36] Let me give you an example.

[00:01:38] We sometimes complain about waking up early,

[00:01:41] but how often do we thank God for the simple fact that we did wake up?

[00:01:46] Waking up is a gift,

[00:01:47] a chance to live another day and love the people around us.

[00:01:52] Off the top of my head, here are six things I'm thankful for today.

[00:01:57] Number one,

[00:01:58] friends and family.

[00:02:00] They love us,

[00:02:01] even when we're a little, let's say, extra.

[00:02:04] They're the people who make life rich and meaningful.

[00:02:08] Two,

[00:02:09] health.

[00:02:10] A functioning body is no small blessing.

[00:02:13] If you're upright and breathing,

[00:02:15] praise God.

[00:02:16] Three,

[00:02:17] God's grace.

[00:02:18] This one needs no explanation,

[00:02:20] just endless gratitude.

[00:02:22] Number four,

[00:02:23] waking up.

[00:02:24] Each new morning is a fresh opportunity to live,

[00:02:27] love,

[00:02:28] and pursue our dreams.

[00:02:30] Five,

[00:02:32] laughter.

[00:02:32] Laughter.

[00:02:33] Who doesn't love those cheesy videos on social media?

[00:02:37] Laughter is one of God's greatest gifts.

[00:02:40] Lastly,

[00:02:41] number six,

[00:02:41] freedom.

[00:02:43] From the freedom we have in Christ to the freedom to gather with loved ones and celebrate,

[00:02:47] it's all a blessing.

[00:02:49] What about you?

[00:02:50] What are you thankful for today?

[00:02:52] If you're listening right now,

[00:02:54] I encourage you to think of just a few things that make your heart feel full.

[00:02:57] It doesn't have to

[00:02:59] be big.

[00:03:01] Sometimes it's the little things that matter most.

[00:03:04] Thanksgiving isn't just one day.

[00:03:06] It's a lifestyle.

[00:03:08] Sure,

[00:03:08] the yams are great,

[00:03:09] but it's God who truly fills our lives with joy,

[00:03:12] hope,

[00:03:12] and purpose.

[00:03:14] Ephesians 5.20 reminds us

[00:03:16] to always give thanks to God the Father for everything

[00:03:19] in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

[00:03:21] Let's not just be thankful today,

[00:03:23] but carry this spirit of gratitude into every single day of our lives.

[00:03:28] Let's pray.

[00:03:30] Dear Heavenly Father,

[00:03:31] we pause to reflect on your goodness and countless blessings.

[00:03:34] Thank you for the gift of life,

[00:03:36] for family and friends,

[00:03:38] laughter,

[00:03:39] health,

[00:03:39] and the freedom we have in Christ.

[00:03:42] Help us to see your hand in every detail of our lives,

[00:03:47] even in the moments we often overlook.

[00:03:49] May gratitude fill our hearts,

[00:03:51] not just today,

[00:03:52] but every day,

[00:03:53] as we praise you for your faithfulness.

[00:03:56] Bless our gatherings,

[00:03:58] and remind us of your love,

[00:04:00] which never fails.

[00:04:01] In Jesus' precious name,

[00:04:03] Amen.

[00:04:04] Thank you for joining me today

[00:04:06] for this special Thanksgiving devotion.

[00:04:08] I hope your day is filled with gratitude,

[00:04:11] love,

[00:04:11] and maybe even a second helping of your favorite dish.

[00:04:15] Until next time,

[00:04:16] stay thankful,

[00:04:18] and stay blessed.

[00:04:19] Happy Thanksgiving.
