[00:00:00] It's the stories, the journeys, the testimonies. It's the spiritual detox.

[00:00:05] Welcome back, welcome back DJ Focus, Dice Gamble. You tie back into the fix.

[00:00:09] Your source of faith and fuse, hip hop, R&B and poetry.

[00:00:12] It's time for our spiritual detox and we end for a treat today.

[00:00:15] Listen, I tell you, we always try to highlight movers and shakers

[00:00:20] who are doing things not only in the faith but also just for the community.

[00:00:25] And listen, we have a super talented lady on the line right now.

[00:00:29] When you talk about women empowerment, she all for it.

[00:00:32] She want to make sure she highlights all of the courageous women out there who are doing a lot of things in all type of spaces.

[00:00:40] So listen, I am blessed to have a chance to have a conversation with listen, a CEO.

[00:00:46] She's a producer, publisher.

[00:00:48] Listen, she does it all. She acts, you know, we got to definitely talk about some of her acting endeavors and she does a lot, lot more.

[00:00:55] The super talented, Telysha Barry. How are you doing sis?

[00:00:58] I'm great. How are you?

[00:01:01] I am good. I'm good. Forgive me. You do radio too as well. I knew that too as well.

[00:01:05] I got listen, I got to give her all her roses. She do radio. She do it all.

[00:01:08] So I'm excited to talk with you because you've been doing a lot of powerful things for a long time.

[00:01:14] And I feel like, you know, I don't know. I think people sleeping on you.

[00:01:17] I feel like more people need to know about what you're doing.

[00:01:20] So, you know, before we talk about everything that you're doing, especially with the women empowerment with the courageous woman,

[00:01:26] can you share a little bit of maybe the backstory of a little bit of your faith journey?

[00:01:30] Maybe something that God has shown you through the journey, through your career

[00:01:35] that you didn't know about yourself from a spiritual aspect.

[00:01:38] Well, number one thing knowing coming to the understanding that God had me, you know,

[00:01:45] when I was going through the worst times and I didn't think nobody heard me or understood what I was going through,

[00:01:51] God had me every step of the way.

[00:01:54] And I had to come to that understanding and operate in faith.

[00:01:59] And that's something that I had to, you know, even though growing up in the church,

[00:02:02] sometimes we know about faith and we just didn't.

[00:02:06] I wasn't operating as I got older in my 20s and trying to do my own thing.

[00:02:12] But I had to come back to what I knew, you know, that foundation and understanding God was with me every step of the way.

[00:02:21] That's good.

[00:02:22] You know, with this, you know, we know we're four years removed from the pandemic, but, you know, it has been something different.

[00:02:28] You know, you mentioned that you grew up in the church, you know, you had the foundation, of course, matured as you got older.

[00:02:34] You know, do you feel like it's something different going on in the church now compared to maybe, you know, back a little,

[00:02:39] you know, in your earlier years and the faith and just how we were brought up in church?

[00:02:45] Well, yeah, things are a little bit different.

[00:02:48] I can say that things are a lot, a lot of, I think more accepting of things.

[00:02:55] You know, I grew up in a strong Baptist church and a lot of things that, you know, that, you know, people do today that that was certainly frowned upon.

[00:03:05] And even captured that part of that in one of my, my, my books.

[00:03:09] But yeah, I think things are a little, a lot, a lot different.

[00:03:12] And so the younger generation, you know, I'm consistently consulting my own children and reminding them where they came from and who's they came from and that they need to operate in, you know, being more Christlike and Christ centered in these trouble times that we have.

[00:03:34] And so they kind of get it.

[00:03:37] That's good.

[00:03:37] Thanks for sharing.

[00:03:38] So, you know, take us on the journey.

[00:03:40] You know, when you first started, you know, your professionalism, what was the first thing you want to do?

[00:03:45] Cause you do so many things.

[00:03:46] So it's like, what was the first thing that you started, you know, that you inspired to do that you started chasing after?

[00:03:52] Was it, you know, being, uh, you know, writing?

[00:03:54] Was it producing?

[00:03:55] Was it acting?

[00:03:57] Well, it was writing for sure.

[00:03:59] I was one of the kids that was, I was raising my grandparents and I used to keep up a lot of noise and my grandmother would tell me,

[00:04:05] would you just go somewhere and be quiet and pick up a pencil and write?

[00:04:09] So that's how I started writing as a young age, writing poetry and writing, you know, plays for middle school.

[00:04:16] And so kind of started there with the writing and then I got introduced to acting and I fell in love with acting as a young, maybe, you know, 12, 13 years old got involved in theater, community theater.

[00:04:33] What was the first role where you really feel like you arrived?

[00:04:35] Like, what was that first acting role where you was like, you know what, no, I'm pretty good.

[00:04:39] Let's be real.

[00:04:40] I'm good.

[00:04:43] I would say, um, probably it was a gospel play.

[00:04:47] Um, I used to travel around the country with, um, gospel plays and one of them was Michael Matthews play.

[00:04:55] And I played, um, a daughter, a wayward daughter.

[00:05:00] And, um, she, um, she was just, you know, not, not, she was kind of in the streets and doing her own thing.

[00:05:07] So I had to kind of, you know, I was in my early twenties at that time.

[00:05:11] So I had to, I saw a lot of that.

[00:05:14] So I was able to see, you know, what, um, things around me and my community and people that I knew.

[00:05:21] So I kind of drew off of that and was able to do that.

[00:05:24] And it was, it was a lot of fun.

[00:05:25] I learned a lot about that's where I really began to learn about acting.

[00:05:30] Okay.

[00:05:31] So, so when did you start strive publishing?

[00:05:33] Talk us through, you know, you starting up strive publishing?

[00:05:37] Well, I started to strive publishing about 12 years ago.

[00:05:42] Um, I was just going through a troubled time in my life and I was like, okay, God, I need you.

[00:05:47] So I need you right now.

[00:05:51] Right?

[00:05:51] Okay.

[00:05:52] So I, um, had a friend who had a thriving publication.

[00:05:56] My magazine was just a blog.

[00:05:57] I was just writing and sharing women's stories, but I knew it was time for me to move and grow.

[00:06:02] And I had a friend who had a thriving publication and I'm like, what do I need?

[00:06:07] He's like, oh, you want to use money?

[00:06:09] And I'm like looking at my bank account and I'm like in a restart of my life.

[00:06:13] And I'm like, I don't have that kind of money.

[00:06:15] He said I was going to need at least 30,000.

[00:06:18] I looked in my bank account and I was missing some zeroes.

[00:06:21] Okay.

[00:06:22] I didn't have 30,000.

[00:06:23] I had $30, but I believe in a walk in faith and I know that when God gives you a vision,

[00:06:30] he's going to give you the provision.

[00:06:32] So I had to walk in that and I had to use every skilled talent ability education that I had to create a way to raise the funding to produce that first publication.

[00:06:44] And we distributed 4,000 copies at first.

[00:06:47] That first issue.

[00:06:48] So that was been a while.

[00:06:50] So we've been rolling for 13 years now.

[00:06:53] So, so that's amazing and I'm glad you stuck with it.

[00:06:57] You know, with your, you know, courageous woman blog, what made you want to just really like highlight women and really show women off?

[00:07:08] With, you know, whatever it may be.

[00:07:10] Like what inspired you to do that?

[00:07:12] Well, like I said, I was going through a time and I needed some motivation and inspiration.

[00:07:17] I could not find enough that that resonated with me and related to my personal story going through a divorce.

[00:07:24] So I needed, I was looking for that.

[00:07:26] And so I knew other women and other women's stories.

[00:07:29] So I started sharing their stories.

[00:07:30] I wasn't really, really ready to tell my story yet at that time.

[00:07:34] I was about to ask that.

[00:07:35] I was about to say, usually you pose a star with yourself, but you go, you go and fill the tea on everybody else.

[00:07:40] I was looking for, you know, the motivational part because so many women were going through, you know, they wanted to do certain things in their lives and they were afraid and had some fears.

[00:07:51] So I wanted to share women's stories who had overcome challenges and who were doing it.

[00:07:56] And so those stories, they resonated with me and my personal story and inspired the women.

[00:08:03] So, you know, and it just began to grow from there.

[00:08:07] Talk about some of the women you've had the opportunity just to talk to and just talk, you know, with about courageous women and just interview in your personal career.

[00:08:20] Oh, wow.

[00:08:21] We've had some amazing stories of women who have started with scratch and making millions.

[00:08:26] So those stories always inspired us.

[00:08:29] I've had the pleasure of speaking with a lot of celebrities whose story resonated with our message, you know, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Wendy Rockhill, Williams, Robinson.

[00:08:41] And we've had so many amazing, amazing women, even Monique, you know, share her story.

[00:08:48] So we've had some Shirley Raff, some amazing women who have been on board with us.

[00:08:55] So come on, let's talk about this acting again.

[00:08:58] Talk about your role in Double Cross.

[00:09:00] Come on, this thing is amazing.

[00:09:03] Listen, stellar cast, I just want to give you all roses.

[00:09:06] You know, they did a great and amazing job.

[00:09:09] But just talk about how you got that role, the casting, your role in it and everything.

[00:09:14] Oh my God, that was such a huge heart thing for me because that is something.

[00:09:20] That's one of my biggest things is to become an actor.

[00:09:24] That was my big dream.

[00:09:26] And so, but I had the opportunity.

[00:09:31] Well, actually I started with my son.

[00:09:35] He's an actor.

[00:09:36] So I had got that opportunity to be a stage mom and be on watch him on that.

[00:09:40] And I was like, you know, that's good.

[00:09:42] That was my dream.

[00:09:43] But you know, if I don't get it, you know, I'm here with my son.

[00:09:46] He's working with all the major people that I dreamed of working with.

[00:09:50] And so I was okay with that, but I still had that energy and that dream and that desire.

[00:09:55] Now my kids are grown.

[00:09:56] And so somebody asked me, you know, I done some casting and working as an agent too.

[00:10:01] So people would call me for different actors.

[00:10:03] So it was a friend of mine.

[00:10:05] So she she was part of the casting Dr. Verl.

[00:10:08] So she was like, you know what?

[00:10:11] I got a role over here.

[00:10:12] Let's see who you could audition for this.

[00:10:14] And I'm like, okay.

[00:10:16] So I felt that it is, you know, something that's going like a 360 for me.

[00:10:21] So I've done a lot of amazing things being behind the scenes and but my heart is there.

[00:10:27] So I felt a blessing to have that opportunity and be on a show like double cross.

[00:10:33] Yes, I loved I love my role.

[00:10:35] I played a teacher.

[00:10:36] So that was an amazing experience for me.

[00:10:40] And now I'm looking for more.

[00:10:42] So that's good.

[00:10:44] What was your son say about his experience about you being on set with him and going through his journey of, you know, acting?

[00:10:52] What would he say?

[00:10:53] Because I would just imagine my mom, my mom, my mom would be all over the place.

[00:10:56] I'd be like, Lord, mama, give me a second.

[00:10:58] Let me let the directors direct mama.

[00:11:00] My mama be telling direction.

[00:11:02] No, no, my baby need to be right here.

[00:11:05] I didn't know of a bearing like that.

[00:11:08] I didn't do it like that, but you know, I was just proud to be there.

[00:11:12] You know, we came from Flint, Michigan all the way to LA, you know, with four kids and a dog.

[00:11:19] So what we if he was very, very blessed still very blessed, you know, as an adult now, still acting still doing this thing.

[00:11:26] But, you know, got some amazing I got, you know, to watch him be on shows like Girlfriends and, you know, things that he was doing.

[00:11:33] Things that he was living my dreams really.

[00:11:36] So I was very, very proud, proud to watch and be a part of that.

[00:11:40] And now to see he's looking at me like, go mama, all my kids like I used to tell my kids, go big or go home.

[00:11:47] They didn't want to go back home.

[00:11:49] Go big.

[00:11:50] So they all are moving and doing their own things.

[00:11:53] And that's what they tell me mama, go big or go home.

[00:11:56] So that's good.

[00:11:58] That's good.

[00:11:59] So talk a little bit, you know, some about some of your accolades.

[00:12:01] I know you are blessed to have you got to a couple of pageant, your pageant one or two as well, a couple of titles, don't you?

[00:12:07] Yeah, that was an amazing experience too as well.

[00:12:12] I have two titles.

[00:12:14] Women of Achievement is Miss Elite West Coast and Miss, most recently Miss Elite US.

[00:12:24] So those were an amazing opportunity and feel very blessed to have won a title in a pageant at this stage in my life.

[00:12:34] So, yeah.

[00:12:35] What's next for you?

[00:12:36] What can we expect next?

[00:12:38] You know what?

[00:12:39] I'm just like, okay God, you got me.

[00:12:42] You got my hand.

[00:12:43] He's doing amazing things.

[00:12:44] So now I'm at the point like I'm just getting my dreams done.

[00:12:47] You know, so I've always been writing my first novel.

[00:12:51] The script is ready.

[00:12:52] We're ready to go with that and some more writing and producing for me and even working with my kids doing some projects.

[00:13:01] So, I mean, is that in the works?

[00:13:04] When you say this novel, is the novel already done?

[00:13:07] Oh yeah, the novel has been written.

[00:13:10] That was my first novel some years ago.

[00:13:12] Okay.

[00:13:13] And so it is The Baptist Junkies Christian fiction drama.

[00:13:17] So that one is the script.

[00:13:19] Talk about that a little bit.

[00:13:21] Baptist Junkies, come on and talk about that a little bit.

[00:13:25] Well, it's set in the 60s based in like Flint, Detroit.

[00:13:29] And it's based on my real family in the real church I grew up in.

[00:13:35] And a lot of people have a lot of fun trying to figure out the who the characters are because I changed all the names to protect the innocent.

[00:13:43] Oh, they know what they did.

[00:13:45] No, no, don't do that.

[00:13:46] Listen, I went to a small Baptist church too as well and everybody know.

[00:13:49] Yeah, we knew what Miss Wilson did, Miss Johnson did.

[00:13:53] Deacon such and such.

[00:13:55] So yeah, we know.

[00:13:57] It's been a lot of fun.

[00:13:59] It's been a lot of fun.

[00:14:00] You know, it was best selling book.

[00:14:02] It's been an amazing journey just to even finish that book.

[00:14:06] Took me some years to get that one done.

[00:14:08] But to see that on screen is going to be amazing.

[00:14:13] You know, so it's based on my mother's real life.

[00:14:15] And she's no longer with us, but she did get the opportunity to read the book.

[00:14:20] That's good.

[00:14:21] If you could change one thing in the industry, you know, if you had the power to change one thing, what one thing would you change?

[00:14:26] I mean, you've done it all, you know, acting, you know, you talk about publishing and writing and radio.

[00:14:32] You know, what's one thing that you think, you know, should be changed, if any.

[00:14:36] Oh, to be changed.

[00:14:38] Yeah.

[00:14:39] Yeah.

[00:14:40] Our show is called The Fix, so I always end with, you know, what's the solution?

[00:14:45] We always talk about the problem, but what's the solution?

[00:14:48] What would you change?

[00:14:49] I think, you know, more opportunities for African American writers, producers.

[00:14:54] I mean, they're growing now.

[00:14:56] They're growing.

[00:14:57] I'm watching.

[00:14:58] I'm seeing them go.

[00:14:59] But it's still, you know, a work that needs to be done.

[00:15:03] And so many of our stories need to be told.

[00:15:06] And I got some stories.

[00:15:08] So we're working on producing and sharing some of our stories, but I love to see stories about our people that are positive and empowering, you know.

[00:15:19] That's good.

[00:15:20] Listen, thank you for coming by.

[00:15:22] Can you tell the people how to connect with you, follow you on all your social media platforms?

[00:15:26] Yes, you can connect with me at courageouswomanmag.com and you can connect with me directly at info at courageouswomanmag.com.

[00:15:56] And listen, we get a chance to listen, highlight some movies and shakers and a little bit of not just music, but also, you know, acting and comedy and everything else.

[00:16:06] And I'm excited because, listen, we got a young up and coming actor, comedian on the line with us right now who's doing some pop things.

[00:16:13] Oh, by the way, too, as well, you walk up on it.

[00:16:15] He might give you a two piece and it ain't chicken.

[00:16:18] He do a little box of two was what?

[00:16:21] Listen to Super Town that Paul C Jerry, what's going on, sir?

[00:16:24] AKA Pablo.

[00:16:26] Hello, hey, baby.

[00:16:28] Can we outside?

[00:16:30] You know, Sam, thanks for the introduction, man.

[00:16:32] It's always good when you can use your God giving gifts and talents to inspire the world.

[00:16:39] And I feel that comedy as well as anything we do with the arts, it grounds you, you know what I'm saying?

[00:16:46] And God ends up using it because everybody needs to laugh.

[00:16:50] You know, the way the economy going away, society is going.

[00:16:53] People need to laugh.

[00:16:54] You know, people need to know that people care about them.

[00:16:57] You know, I'm saying so I feel like I can reach people through my acting, do my comedy and just make them feel better, you know, about themselves and things are really just been jumping off, man.

[00:17:07] They really been been jumping off.

[00:17:09] That's exciting to hear, man.

[00:17:11] And I'm glad you started off with a little bit of, you know, just your spiritual walk.

[00:17:15] Talk a little bit more though about the journey.

[00:17:17] What's that one thing God has shown you in the midst of doing everything over the career?

[00:17:22] Maybe something personal that maybe you didn't know about yourself from a spiritual aspect that God was like, you just had to say, wow, God, you did that, huh?

[00:17:30] Well, I would say God had to hear the ground me and remind me that, yo, the blessings that you have, they come from me.

[00:17:39] You know, where they say God gives and God take it away, you know.

[00:17:43] And in 2011, March the 7th, I lost my mom to breast cancer and DJ Fixman.

[00:17:51] That was a rough, rough time for me.

[00:17:53] I'm thinking of myself, man.

[00:17:54] Okay, I'm in college.

[00:17:55] Do I finish college?

[00:17:56] You know, do I drop out?

[00:17:58] And God was saying, you know, just stay the course, stay the course.

[00:18:01] And it was only through acting and God that helped me to get over the pain of my mother.

[00:18:07] And then right after I lose my mom to breast cancer, two years later, I lose my little brother.

[00:18:12] You know what I'm saying?

[00:18:13] To suicide.

[00:18:14] Wow.

[00:18:15] And so mental health, you know, is very, very important to me.

[00:18:17] And during this time, I'm like, God, like, what's going on?

[00:18:22] And God was saying, hey, you know, I'm with you, you know, despite of everything that's going on, there's a reason for all this pain and this trauma that's going on in your life.

[00:18:31] And I started thinking about Joseph and thinking about Joe and how they went through so much.

[00:18:36] But God was like, hey, even though you're going through a lot right now, what I got to play for you is so much bigger.

[00:18:41] If you could just weather this storm.

[00:18:43] And when I tell you after I weather that storm, and I was like, you know, I started seeing the therapist, you know, for my mom and I haven't really cried.

[00:18:52] And you know, most men, they tell us, you're not supposed to cry.

[00:18:55] You know, you're not supposed to get emotional.

[00:18:57] And that's all false because all that pain DJ fixed was built up 1112 years.

[00:19:03] And then when I finally released it during the acting, acting a gig, I could just put that weight coming off of my shoulders, man.

[00:19:10] And I can't tell you how many times my mom is right there with me.

[00:19:14] You know, she passed away at 424 March of 7 2011.

[00:19:19] I might get some food to receive today for 24.

[00:19:22] You know, I might pull up my watch for 24.

[00:19:25] I might drive the gas a 424 or I see an address 424 or phone number.

[00:19:31] And I'm like, okay, mom, you right there with me.

[00:19:33] But to go back to your question, man, God just had to show me that he was with me, you know, matter what I was going through, no matter how bad the trauma was, like he was still right there by my side.

[00:19:43] And I needed that because people, they don't stay in your life a long time.

[00:19:47] And sometimes you just need that foundation to say, look, I got you.

[00:19:51] I got you.

[00:19:52] Trust me.

[00:19:53] Just trust me.

[00:19:55] Listen, I thank you for sharing that and definitely my condolences to you for your mom as well as your brother.

[00:20:01] I appreciate it.

[00:20:02] I'm glad that you talked about, you know, therapy and you understanding the importance of listen, I might need to go talk to somebody.

[00:20:10] Does does the does the grieving process just can you share with the people?

[00:20:17] What's that?

[00:20:18] Does that look like to you this continuing over the years?

[00:20:21] Did you have moments where you break down or you're stressed out and it's because of, you know, you're still grieving the loss of your mom and your brother.

[00:20:29] So I did.

[00:20:30] I did have the grieving process and like he was talking about the boxing before I started doing the acting part of like grieving.

[00:20:38] It would just be days I might think about my mom, I'm just go to the gym.

[00:20:41] I'm gonna fight the pain away.

[00:20:43] And that was cool.

[00:20:44] But as soon as you leave the gym, all that's sad.

[00:20:47] And it's come back, you know, mother's they coming around looking at everybody celebrating with their mothers on my mom birthday.

[00:20:53] I'm like, man, oh, Christmas or the holidays Thanksgiving and she's not there.

[00:20:58] My little brother isn't there.

[00:20:59] So I'm like, what do I do?

[00:21:01] But now I'm comfortable with, you know, releasing some tears or crying.

[00:21:07] And when I'm on, I'm acting, I could kind of like have that therapeutic moment on screen and the director or you know, producer, they don't know why I'm crying or what my motive is.

[00:21:20] But I know deep down inside what I'm doing and I feel safe now where I can.

[00:21:26] I'm like one with my emotions.

[00:21:27] And when I cry, whether it's on camera or just in the confinement of my room, I'm okay with releasing that.

[00:21:34] And sometimes I write letters to, you know, to my mom.

[00:21:37] Hey, my luck.

[00:21:38] Just put another movie.

[00:21:40] Just put another series like I know you proud of me.

[00:21:43] I kid you not.

[00:21:45] My room, I have the what do you call them things?

[00:21:48] The room darkened the curtains on my on my room.

[00:21:51] And I wrote my vision board up and mind you, DJ fix no light can get into my room.

[00:21:58] And I wake up and there's a rainbow over top of my vision board.

[00:22:02] And I have all the, you know, platforms I want to be on, you know, the Netflix, the Hulu, the Paramounts, the actors I want to act with.

[00:22:09] And it was right over top of the Netflix icon.

[00:22:12] I said God, that's nothing but you.

[00:22:14] So it's got my mom or my little brother show me a sign.

[00:22:18] But as far as the grieving process, you know, I write, you know, I go for a run.

[00:22:23] I do positive outlets.

[00:22:25] Some people when they greet her like, man, but just hit this heady.

[00:22:28] I'm about to just smoke my pain away, you know, but that only lasts for a certain amount of time.

[00:22:33] Then you're right back in your slump.

[00:22:35] So I try to work out run, draw paint, anything that can get my mind off of it.

[00:22:41] And sometimes I might just like talk to my mom if I'm walking down the street or like, hey, what's up, mom?

[00:22:47] Like I see, I see you watching me, you know, just acknowledge that she's still there because I feel her presence, you know, everywhere I go.

[00:22:55] And I tell people when people die, they don't really disappear.

[00:22:59] They just transition and they're still with you.

[00:23:02] That's guiding you.

[00:23:04] So don't ever think that because they're gone.

[00:23:06] They're just invisible.

[00:23:08] They're just not there with you physically.

[00:23:10] But I can't tell you how many times accidents I miss cars, but I like try to knock me off the road.

[00:23:16] And I know it's my mom like right there with me.

[00:23:18] So to anybody out there, your loved one is still there with you.

[00:23:22] You just got to be open to see the signs of them talking to you.

[00:23:27] That's good.

[00:23:28] That's good.

[00:23:29] So come on, talk about, you know, your acting.

[00:23:31] When did you get into acting or when did you know?

[00:23:34] Like what was that moment you knew like, okay, now I really want to do this on a professional level.

[00:23:39] Okay.

[00:23:40] So I was doing it in high school, you know what I'm saying?

[00:23:43] I was doing it in college.

[00:23:45] And when I realized this is something that's really good is when I was able to fool people in real life.

[00:23:52] I said, okay, I can act.

[00:23:54] I said, they just acting on camera.

[00:23:56] But you know, in real life, I was in college.

[00:23:58] I don't drink, you know, I don't smoke.

[00:24:00] But my mom, you know, rest in peace.

[00:24:02] She gave me a flash with my line name on it to peer and I had put, you know, orange juice, apple juice.

[00:24:09] I'm going to the clubs.

[00:24:10] I'm like, yeah, we turn was good.

[00:24:14] I was some of that.

[00:24:18] Let me get some of that.

[00:24:19] No, no, no, no, you can't get this.

[00:24:21] This month they was like, come on, follow it.

[00:24:23] And they would have known when I opened up the cop, you know, some orange juice, some Kool-Aid.

[00:24:29] And so when I started seeing a, hey, I could fool people in real life.

[00:24:32] I said, I really want to take this even more professional.

[00:24:35] And that's when I started taking classes.

[00:24:38] I hooked up with my acting coach because I was about to sign with a BMG.

[00:24:42] It's like a Bicostal Agency and my auntie started to do pro.

[00:24:46] You probably might have known her.

[00:24:47] She was in Friday after next.

[00:24:50] She was in first Sunday.

[00:24:51] She's like the grandma of Hollywood.

[00:24:53] And she said, Pablo, before you sign, you need to work on your chops.

[00:24:57] I said chops.

[00:24:58] She said, yeah, you need to get into some theater because it's easy for actor to go from theater to film.

[00:25:04] Because you know, you're in a play.

[00:25:06] You're exuding.

[00:25:07] You're yelling out.

[00:25:08] But when you're doing the film, it's more intimate.

[00:25:10] And I was like, okay.

[00:25:12] So I started, you know, with my acting coach and he started working with me.

[00:25:16] And he was actually the one DJ Fix that helped me to open up, you know, about my mom because I was playing a crackhead.

[00:25:24] Don't let.

[00:25:25] I seen it already.

[00:25:26] No, I see it.

[00:25:27] I see it.

[00:25:28] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:25:29] Yeah.

[00:25:30] So I'm playing this crackhead in the 80s and you know, I'm needed my fix and everything.

[00:25:36] I'm trying to get my fix.

[00:25:37] And he said Pablo, you know, I love the character.

[00:25:40] I love that you got the lines memorized, but I'm not really feeling it.

[00:25:44] He said, you know, you got to remember you haven't had no crack in two weeks.

[00:25:48] So you can imagine what your body is going through.

[00:25:51] And I was like, okay, he said do me a favor.

[00:25:53] He said close your eyes.

[00:25:54] Close my eyes.

[00:25:55] He said, when the last time you cried, I said, man, to be honest,

[00:25:59] when my mom passed away, he said, what was going on with your mind?

[00:26:03] So man, I was thinking God, why did you take her?

[00:26:05] You know, she was so special to me.

[00:26:07] She was like the number one woman in my life.

[00:26:09] And he was like, well, you can say one thing to her right now, Pablo.

[00:26:12] What would be like, mom, mom miss you and I still think about you.

[00:26:17] He said, no, that act.

[00:26:18] I said, damn.

[00:26:20] He's like, you're a good actor and go there and come back.

[00:26:23] And when I tell you when I started crying, everybody wanted to run up on stage.

[00:26:27] Pablo, man, you are you.

[00:26:28] All right, man.

[00:26:29] You look like you was really just going through that stuff.

[00:26:31] I was like, really, really was and going through that mindset that just

[00:26:38] transitioned me DJ, DJ fix until I went and auditioned for my first short film

[00:26:43] at Towson University.

[00:26:44] I just wanted to be in the background.

[00:26:45] I said, hey, you guys want to be in background?

[00:26:47] And it was another problem.

[00:26:49] And I think we went auditioning for the lead.

[00:26:51] I said, the what?

[00:26:52] They were like the lead.

[00:26:53] I said, you'll stop playing with me.

[00:26:55] I said, come on, come on out and ended up being a lead role in that film.

[00:26:59] It's on YouTube now.

[00:27:00] It's called second chance featuring Prince Paul.

[00:27:03] And then right after that thing just started trickling down my buddy Barry.

[00:27:06] He wrote a film camp Wilson with Omar Gooden in it.

[00:27:11] And we ended up doing that from I was a detective.

[00:27:13] And the funny part is because I'm a police office, I kept getting casted as cops

[00:27:17] and detectives.

[00:27:18] So look, those type cast me.

[00:27:20] I said, come on out.

[00:27:21] And then it wasn't until 2020, like 2020, 2021 is when I did the crack hit role.

[00:27:28] And I was able to show my comedic side.

[00:27:30] Like, hey, Pablo got range.

[00:27:32] He could be serious.

[00:27:33] He could be funny.

[00:27:34] And now things are just been like jumping off and have an agent now.

[00:27:38] And I ended up booking the agent DJ fix on a humble.

[00:27:42] I was at the American American and black film festival in Miami and

[00:27:48] ended up meeting the agent down there.

[00:27:50] Pretend like me and you are just talking.

[00:27:52] She was like, you were actor.

[00:27:53] And I was like, yeah, she was like, I can see you on power.

[00:27:57] I can see you on what was it being mad?

[00:28:00] I said, yeah, that's cool.

[00:28:01] That's cool.

[00:28:02] She said, um, you got an agent.

[00:28:03] I said, no, I got a manager.

[00:28:04] She was like, um, are you sad?

[00:28:06] I was real sad.

[00:28:07] I said, you know, I'm sad.

[00:28:08] I was real.

[00:28:09] She said, I want to sign you.

[00:28:10] I said, stop playing me like, don't don't do this.

[00:28:12] Like, because when you go into the acting round, there's a lot of people

[00:28:16] that use you.

[00:28:17] Hey, they make you promises and none of this stuff can ever happen.

[00:28:20] And we ended up signing a rehearsal about to be a year now and things

[00:28:24] had just been moving.

[00:28:25] This is nothing but God.

[00:28:26] And I took a risk, you know, going down to Miami.

[00:28:29] Wow.

[00:28:30] That's a good risk.

[00:28:31] And God showed up for you.

[00:28:33] Right.

[00:28:34] What's that?

[00:28:35] If you if you had to pick which one did you like more?

[00:28:38] Do you like acting more?

[00:28:39] Do you like maybe doing more stand up and being more comedian

[00:28:43] more?

[00:28:45] Man, it's crazy.

[00:28:46] They're like, they're almost like neck and neck.

[00:28:49] I love the instant laughs, you know, from comedy, but I love the way

[00:28:54] I get to tap in and out of characters, you know, with with acting,

[00:28:58] whether it's Spanish, you know, drug lord or whether it's, you know,

[00:29:02] somebody British or somebody Southern like, come on in a moment.

[00:29:06] Jesse Lee, she talking about them pile down at the church.

[00:29:08] Come on.

[00:29:09] You know, so I like the characterization, you know, and acting

[00:29:15] but comedy.

[00:29:16] I like kind of a right now.

[00:29:18] I think acting is above comedy, but you know, they almost they

[00:29:22] almost neck and neck.

[00:29:23] What's your working on now?

[00:29:24] Well, come on.

[00:29:25] Tell the people what, you know, what movies are serious.

[00:29:27] You're working on.

[00:29:28] Okay.

[00:29:29] So we have a new series that I just book called San Diego.

[00:29:33] We're going to be starting to film that this month.

[00:29:37] There's another series that we're working on called crew.

[00:29:40] They're both going to be filmed in DC.

[00:29:43] I'm also working on a really, really big stage play written by

[00:29:46] my bro Barry battle.

[00:29:48] We're going to be in making Georgia on maybe 11th and you

[00:29:52] guys can get tickets.

[00:29:53] We have Omar Gooden.

[00:29:55] He's playing my father.

[00:29:56] We got Dorian Wilson as you know, Professor Ogrevy.

[00:29:59] We got Vanessa Simmons.

[00:30:01] We got so many great, great actors.

[00:30:03] That's going to be May 11th.

[00:30:05] The website is BLNKENT.com BLNKENT.com.

[00:30:12] I was just in a romantic comedy called singled.

[00:30:16] That's out on YouTube.

[00:30:18] I'm in two films on BET plus Wesley Christmas,

[00:30:23] a Wesley Christmas wedding.

[00:30:25] You can catch me on HBO Max episode one season one of

[00:30:29] We on the City and then the romantic comedy on Amazon Prime

[00:30:33] is called Thanksgiving Rose.

[00:30:35] And then we have the one on 2B called a naughty Christmas

[00:30:38] story.

[00:30:39] So we've been we've been booked and busy man.

[00:30:41] I just did a commercial to a Capital One as well.

[00:30:45] So just working on balancing the commercials comedy

[00:30:49] and the film.

[00:30:52] Oh, I forgot to tell you next week.

[00:30:54] Actually, yeah, next week, next week,

[00:30:56] the 13th and the 14th, I'll be doing two comedy

[00:30:59] shows at the South by Southwest Comedy Festival in

[00:31:03] Austin, Texas.

[00:31:04] And then we'll be going to LA on the 15th.

[00:31:07] Now, so what's up?

[00:31:08] Listen, before I get you out of here,

[00:31:10] I got to ask you a hip hop question because you know,

[00:31:12] we do a faith based hip hop here on the show.

[00:31:14] So I do want to ask you, you know,

[00:31:16] just in your humble opinion, because I know you like

[00:31:18] hip hop.

[00:31:19] I've seen you know social media pages.

[00:31:21] So I know you are in the culture.

[00:31:23] What do you think the state of the culture of hip hop

[00:31:25] is right now?

[00:31:26] You know, last year we celebrated 50 years of hip hop.

[00:31:29] What do you think we are overall?

[00:31:31] You know, just hip hop is it doesn't still have the

[00:31:34] essence, the meaning, the power that it had when it came

[00:31:38] out in the 70s with empowering a culture with

[00:31:41] making sure we speak about, you know,

[00:31:43] hard conversations we need to have, whether it be

[00:31:45] political, whether it be, you know,

[00:31:47] in the community, what do you think the state of

[00:31:49] the culture of hip hop is altogether?

[00:31:51] I feel like it's up in the air.

[00:31:54] You know, you have, you know, some rappers that still

[00:31:57] kind of stay true.

[00:31:58] Like, you know, my boy Jay Cole, he's still,

[00:32:00] you know, giving, you know, them heart heartfelt

[00:32:03] messages, you know, even from like the love yours

[00:32:06] all the way down to what he's doing now.

[00:32:09] But I still miss, you know, the most deaf,

[00:32:12] you know, the tribe, Tribecaw Quest,

[00:32:14] you know what I'm saying?

[00:32:16] It's not as much as the music.

[00:32:18] I didn't figure you for a backpack rapper.

[00:32:20] I didn't figure you for a backpack rapper.

[00:32:22] Okay.

[00:32:23] Yeah, I like that substance, you know what I'm

[00:32:26] saying?

[00:32:27] I want to be empowered, but now music is made

[00:32:30] just to sound good, make you feel good in the

[00:32:33] club.

[00:32:34] You know, a lot of these rappers, they're

[00:32:36] rapping them out stuff they don't really do

[00:32:38] the purgatory sets, the Xanax, the drugs,

[00:32:40] this and that.

[00:32:41] And back in the day, you know, we wrapped

[00:32:44] about the environment or not succumbing

[00:32:46] to the environment.

[00:32:47] Now, like, hey, when I'm high, do this,

[00:32:49] when I'm drunk, I'm do that.

[00:32:51] And it's just catchy and it sounds good,

[00:32:54] but a lot of this new hip hop isn't going to,

[00:32:57] I don't think it's going to last like it did,

[00:33:00] you know, back in that two-part era,

[00:33:02] you know, back in that biggie era,

[00:33:04] you know what I'm saying?

[00:33:06] The Tribecaw Quest, you know, era like,

[00:33:08] we was playing that joint, um, what's the

[00:33:10] joint?

[00:33:11] Back in the day, in the Boulevard,

[00:33:13] we was playing that on set and they're

[00:33:15] like everybody on set is like jamming

[00:33:17] to this.

[00:33:18] But she plays something out, up in

[00:33:20] the background, like what you say?

[00:33:22] Up in the background, up in the background,

[00:33:24] I'm like, bro, slow down.

[00:33:26] Can't kill her, Papi.

[00:33:28] I can understand.

[00:33:30] You know, back in the day, like,

[00:33:34] you could understand every word,

[00:33:36] you know what I'm saying?

[00:33:37] It was so poetic, you know what I'm

[00:33:39] saying?

[00:33:40] Even with like, you know, the women,

[00:33:42] you know what I'm saying?

[00:33:43] And the R&B, everything just like made

[00:33:45] you feel good, you know.

[00:33:47] And Tevin Campbell's SWV, you know,

[00:33:50] so many groups that just made you

[00:33:52] feel good.

[00:33:53] And I have an old soul, DJ Fixman.

[00:33:55] I still be listening to Cameo,

[00:33:57] with my guys and Mark Morrison,

[00:34:00] Return of the Mac.

[00:34:02] That's a classic right there.

[00:34:04] Yeah, like when I get up on the

[00:34:06] floor, you know, it just

[00:34:09] made you feel good, you know what

[00:34:11] I'm saying?

[00:34:12] Even Tina Marie Squarebiz, you know

[00:34:14] what I'm saying?

[00:34:15] Even the white folks had soul.

[00:34:17] You know, everybody was just jamming

[00:34:19] and I think the music back there

[00:34:21] made you feel good now.

[00:34:23] It's just something good to listen

[00:34:25] to while you're driving.

[00:34:26] But when you're feeling like down,

[00:34:28] you might not listen to them, but

[00:34:30] you might throw some J.Colon, you

[00:34:32] know what I'm saying?

[00:34:33] Or some Kendrick Lamar, you know

[00:34:35] what I'm saying?

[00:34:36] And those are some of my top, top

[00:34:38] guys that are like also to as far

[00:34:40] as gospel rap, I listened to my

[00:34:42] boy Kevin Ross.

[00:34:43] He's a dope song called Sweet Victory.

[00:34:45] That's really good.

[00:34:46] Lecrae.

[00:34:47] But you know, you know, even though

[00:34:49] I'm a Christian, I still get a little

[00:34:51] hood, you know what I'm saying?

[00:34:52] So, you know, mind listen to the

[00:34:53] Rick Ross, you know what I'm saying?

[00:34:55] God did, you know, leave me in a

[00:34:57] dark, chilling with the shocks.

[00:34:59] You know what I'm saying?

[00:35:00] So I think though some artists do

[00:35:02] make good music and

[00:35:04] some make music that's just

[00:35:06] for like a radio hit, you know

[00:35:08] what I'm saying?

[00:35:09] And I think if we get back

[00:35:11] to like that substance and

[00:35:13] maybe remake something and just

[00:35:15] add more, more to it because

[00:35:17] the artists have the ability to

[00:35:19] write those conscious lyrics.

[00:35:21] But they're, I don't say their

[00:35:23] team, but the labels, you know,

[00:35:25] they guide them, you know, a certain

[00:35:27] way.

[00:35:28] That's what's up.

[00:35:29] Listen, I got to get you back on

[00:35:31] Pablo, man.

[00:35:32] It was great talking with you, man.

[00:35:34] Proud of you, man.

[00:35:35] Keep doing what you're doing, King.

[00:35:36] And I'm going to have to send

[00:35:37] you another few more Christian

[00:35:38] hip hop artists to put in your

[00:35:39] list.

[00:35:40] I'm going to make sure my team

[00:35:41] email you some artists that way.

[00:35:43] You know, you can just have a

[00:35:44] little balance, more balance in

[00:35:45] your palate.

[00:35:46] None against none of the names

[00:35:47] you name, but I definitely want

[00:35:48] to make sure we get you hip to

[00:35:50] some of the other up and coming

[00:35:52] artists.

[00:35:53] So that's what's up.

[00:35:54] You know, always open a lot of

[00:35:55] music, man.

[00:35:56] Music is good for the soul.

[00:35:57] You know what I'm saying?

[00:35:58] If you laugh more, you cry less.

[00:35:59] So keep me, keep me hip, DJ.

[00:36:01] What's up?

[00:36:02] I got you.

[00:36:03] I got you.

[00:36:04] Pablo, tell the people how

[00:36:05] to connect with you.

[00:36:06] Follow you on all your social

[00:36:07] media platforms.

[00:36:08] You can follow me at Paul P. A. U.

[00:36:15] TikTok.

[00:36:16] That's also my website.

[00:36:18] I'll be keeping everything

[00:36:19] updated with the shows,

[00:36:21] movies, plays.

[00:36:24] .com as well.

[00:36:26] Can't wait to link with you

[00:36:27] guys.

[00:36:28] Get it okay baby.

[00:36:29] I'll stop it.

[00:36:32] Paul C. Jerry.

[00:36:33] Listen, we got to go to a

[00:36:34] break.

[00:36:35] We're coming right back with

[00:36:36] more real conversations.

[00:36:37] Real conversations from real

[00:36:38] imperfect people in pursuit of a

[00:36:39] perfect God.

[00:36:40] Let's jump into today's real

[00:36:41] talk topic.

[00:36:42] Welcome back.

[00:36:43] Welcome back.

[00:36:44] DJ Focus Dice Gamble.

[00:36:45] You tap back into the fix.

[00:36:46] It's time to get really

[00:36:47] nice streets and.

[00:36:48] Woo.

[00:36:49] You talk about it.

[00:36:50] Dice.

[00:36:51] This is one.

[00:36:52] I think that, you know,

[00:36:53] it's going to bless the

[00:36:54] people, but also bless us.

[00:36:55] It's a tough thing.

[00:36:56] You know, every now and

[00:36:57] then, I'm going to

[00:36:58] say, I'm going to say

[00:36:59] I'm going to say,

[00:37:00] I'm going to say,

[00:37:01] I'm going to say,

[00:37:02] I'm going to say,

[00:37:03] I'm going to say,

[00:37:04] I'm going to say,

[00:37:05] I'm going to say,

[00:37:06] I'm going to say,

[00:37:07] I think I do go through a

[00:37:09] period where it's like a

[00:37:10] wilderness season.

[00:37:11] I call it and

[00:37:13] I kind of got to get back

[00:37:15] and seek him.

[00:37:16] Like I do.

[00:37:17] I think he challenges us in

[00:37:18] these areas to seek him

[00:37:19] and get back to knowing him

[00:37:21] on a higher level.

[00:37:22] So that's why I think this

[00:37:23] this real talk today is

[00:37:25] going to be, you know,

[00:37:26] pretty interesting.

[00:37:27] I think it'll be

[00:37:28] definitely edifying to the

[00:37:30] body and all of our

[00:37:31] listeners, but also to us.

[00:37:33] So what do you do?

[00:37:35] Real talk today.

[00:37:36] What do you do when you're,

[00:37:37] you know, experiencing,

[00:37:38] you know, you feel like you

[00:37:39] in the desert experiencing,

[00:37:41] you know, some troubles

[00:37:42] or some trying times with

[00:37:44] your faith journey.

[00:37:45] You know,

[00:37:46] yeah, yeah.

[00:37:47] So I know,

[00:37:48] I know you're going to put

[00:37:49] your cloth on over this one.

[00:37:51] Well,

[00:37:52] bless the Lord everyone.

[00:37:54] This is the day that

[00:37:56] the Lord has made.

[00:37:58] Right?

[00:37:59] We will rejoice and be

[00:38:00] glad in all the desert

[00:38:01] experiences because that's

[00:38:03] where development is

[00:38:05] made.

[00:38:06] That's where we are

[00:38:08] mature in Christ, you know.

[00:38:10] I think a lot of times people

[00:38:12] think it's when they're in

[00:38:13] fellowship and in community

[00:38:15] and we was building, you know,

[00:38:16] I'm saying that we had a

[00:38:17] greater experience, you know,

[00:38:18] corporately.

[00:38:19] I mean, it's hard to hear

[00:38:20] from God in a group.

[00:38:22] It just is because there

[00:38:24] typically is something about

[00:38:25] that person that's in front

[00:38:26] of you or the couple of

[00:38:27] people in front of you

[00:38:28] that you're excited about.

[00:38:29] You know,

[00:38:30] you're excited about.

[00:38:31] You know,

[00:38:32] you're excited about.

[00:38:33] You know,

[00:38:34] whether it's your kids or your

[00:38:35] family on its uncles,

[00:38:36] parents, you know.

[00:38:37] And you might get a word,

[00:38:38] but truly there is no

[00:38:39] revelation until you.

[00:38:41] It's just you and God,

[00:38:42] you know,

[00:38:43] from Moses to Joseph to

[00:38:44] Paul to Jesus.

[00:38:45] That's just

[00:38:46] that's God's thing is to get

[00:38:47] us, you know,

[00:38:48] in a space where we focus

[00:38:49] on him.

[00:38:50] I love it.

[00:38:51] I absolutely love it.

[00:38:52] Like I create my own

[00:38:53] desert moments because I

[00:38:54] have a lot of

[00:38:55] love and I'm

[00:38:56] really excited about

[00:38:57] it.

[00:38:58] I love it.

[00:38:59] I love it.

[00:39:00] I love it.

[00:39:01] I love it.

[00:39:02] I love it.

[00:39:03] Because I need to

[00:39:04] feel alone because

[00:39:05] I'm such a strong will

[00:39:06] person.

[00:39:07] If that makes any sense,

[00:39:08] you know,

[00:39:09] so it's like I need to be

[00:39:12] put in a position where

[00:39:14] man,

[00:39:15] it's wild animals out here.

[00:39:16] It's dark,

[00:39:17] you know,

[00:39:18] like I don't know where I

[00:39:19] met because that's when

[00:39:20] I tap in a little bit

[00:39:21] deeper into God,

[00:39:23] you know,

[00:39:24] I mean all my friends are

[00:39:25] safe.

[00:39:26] So it's just easy to walk

[00:39:27] around.

[00:39:28] You know,

[00:39:29] my life is really easy

[00:39:30] because everybody gives me

[00:39:31] everybody, you know, it's an A Bible everybody, you know, but until I get really put in a place

[00:39:37] where I'm like hearing crickets, you know.

[00:39:40] Yeah.

[00:39:41] I can't really hear God's voice in the way I need it.

[00:39:45] You know what I'm saying?

[00:39:46] I hear God's voice every day in the way I want it because I look for his voice.

[00:39:51] You know, like I am and I know my ways.

[00:39:53] I know I can, you know, phone a friend.

[00:39:55] I know I can get in my word.

[00:39:56] I click on my Bible app.

[00:39:57] I can open up my concordances.

[00:39:59] You know, I like so it's different when you are like, you don't have all that stuff in

[00:40:04] front of you.

[00:40:05] Very different.

[00:40:06] Yeah, it's very different.

[00:40:08] And I think that's the challenges at least for me is when I agree with you when you don't

[00:40:13] have those distractions, when you do have a good circle of, you know, like-minded believers.

[00:40:20] For the most part, everybody is trying to learn their words, study, pray and trying

[00:40:24] to be in the presence of God.

[00:40:25] I guess the challenge for me is what do you do when you're out ministering and you're in

[00:40:32] the wilderness with people who are total opposite of everything we just said.

[00:40:37] And now you have to be able to stand firm.

[00:40:41] You have to be able to witness and share the gospel with some, so for some of us,

[00:40:47] it might have been a vice or struggle that we've overcome, but don't get it twisted

[00:40:51] every now and then, you know, the enemy, he dangles something in front of you that,

[00:40:55] you know, you used to like and that you used to be enticed by and you used to be a

[00:40:58] part of. And to me, I think that's when the challenges are, you know, come around,

[00:41:04] come around.

[00:41:05] I say this all the time, you know, I have definitely loved ones as well as great

[00:41:10] friends.

[00:41:11] And what I was calling my associates now because we kind of move past the true

[00:41:16] friendship of like hanging out all the time.

[00:41:19] But I have some partners that I ran the streets with and came up with high school

[00:41:23] and play sports with, you know, did a lot of different things with.

[00:41:27] And I'm at a place now in my spiritual walk and then where I'm at in my life

[00:41:32] that they may not be at.

[00:41:33] So I have to guard when I go around them just being honest, because they're

[00:41:38] doing a lot of the stuff that, you know, I'm trying not to do.

[00:41:42] Yeah. But I mean, when do you learn to become a leader?

[00:41:46] I'm with you.

[00:41:48] You know, like, like, yeah, you got to.

[00:41:50] Yeah, like how do I, you know, leadership, we can sit back and read all

[00:41:54] these leadership books all we want and pick somebody in the Bible to follow

[00:41:57] all we want. But until you are in that wilderness, you guys don't look

[00:42:02] like me talk like me.

[00:42:03] You're not thinking like me, but I, but God has me here.

[00:42:05] I know I'm here for a reason.

[00:42:09] Yeah. That's a Joshua experience.

[00:42:10] It's like, it is how do I learn?

[00:42:12] How do I learn to lead if I'm not.

[00:42:15] Feeling that way in the midst of you, like I, and that's what causes us to grow.

[00:42:20] Like that's why it's important that you get that word in your prank.

[00:42:23] So you have the wisdom when you are in that position to lead, you know,

[00:42:26] some people run or they fall, they go backwards.

[00:42:29] Oh, let me just kiki with you.

[00:42:31] Like, you know, let me do everything we doing over.

[00:42:33] Oh, what were you doing?

[00:42:34] No, this is your opportunity to lead.

[00:42:37] And that's what people need to see is that, OK, well, you say you saved.

[00:42:42] OK, well, what is he or she doing every time they hear?

[00:42:45] They lead me differently.

[00:42:47] They're shining their light and for us on the inside, it just sucks.

[00:42:51] Because you like.

[00:42:52] You know, I'm like, good, this is crazy.

[00:42:56] Yeah, but I mean, that's just I hate to say that's how good our God is

[00:43:02] because I know people aren't going to understand that statement,

[00:43:04] but that's how good God is.

[00:43:06] Your training is always like a now training.

[00:43:09] Like, yeah, when you call the leadership, you're leading.

[00:43:14] They don't ramp up.

[00:43:16] I went through my leadership classes, but trust and believe

[00:43:19] the class was what's the word and he needed to go out there

[00:43:23] and be ready to teach.

[00:43:25] I need three points, huh?

[00:43:27] Because you've got to lead in, you know, and have actions behind that.

[00:43:32] So yeah, that is tragic, but that's this is what God does.

[00:43:36] He's like, stop talking trash.

[00:43:37] And here's the deal.

[00:43:39] Well, if somebody asked you, hey, are you going into the wilderness today?

[00:43:44] Would that's what we know?

[00:43:47] Yes, there's no I'm not willingly going into anybody's.

[00:43:50] I'll tell you right.

[00:43:52] The only way I'm in a wilderness is because Jesus said this is where you

[00:43:54] sold me. Hmm.

[00:43:56] I'm not just picking it.

[00:43:58] You can knock on my door right now.

[00:43:59] And I swear, I look at that ring on the refrigerator and be like, no, sir.

[00:44:04] No, sir.

[00:44:06] Well, it is who?

[00:44:08] Well, it is what?

[00:44:09] No, thank you.

[00:44:10] So I mean, yeah, our desert experiences in faith are very necessary.

[00:44:18] And this is something if you don't understand that and it's not

[00:44:20] taught as young Christian people run.

[00:44:23] Yes, it is.

[00:44:23] They run.

[00:44:24] Oh, it's too hard.

[00:44:25] It's too complicated.

[00:44:26] Now, this is a part of your development and it's necessary.

[00:44:29] Very, very necessary.

[00:44:31] So that's how we learn how to overcome, too.

[00:44:33] And you can't if you can't get past that moment, how are you going

[00:44:36] to tell somebody else how to get through it?

[00:44:38] Now, man, I went in the shop.

[00:44:39] Everybody was smoking weed.

[00:44:40] Would do what would you do?

[00:44:42] Well, I just fired up.

[00:44:44] No, no, you're going to have to be able to tell somebody how to get out of that.

[00:44:47] You know, like, you know what I'm saying?

[00:44:49] Like, what is that?

[00:44:50] Blueberries?

[00:44:51] It's like, no, no.

[00:44:53] Listen, like so you're going to have to, you know, walk through it.

[00:44:59] But that's where we grow.

[00:45:01] Listen, even Jesus himself, you know, was led by the spirit to walk into the

[00:45:06] wilderness and it was tempted by the devil.

[00:45:08] We see that in Scripture, Matthew four and one.

[00:45:12] And I'm not sure how to our Lord save it for being just, you know, so solid.

[00:45:17] Because I mean, you tell the truth, guys, when you talk about, you know,

[00:45:21] being a leader in these spaces.

[00:45:24] But but I think what we have to unpack and what we're going to

[00:45:26] want once we come back, we're going to go to a quick break.

[00:45:28] But when we come back, we got to talk about building your spirit man up

[00:45:32] to where you can be that leader and not go back into these temptations

[00:45:36] moments and and backslide a little bit.

[00:45:39] Listen, we talking about it this we're talking about it today.

[00:45:42] Desert experiences in the faith.

[00:45:44] Listen, don't touch that dial.

[00:45:45] We going to a quick break.

[00:45:46] We'd be right back with more.

[00:45:48] Keep it locked.

[00:45:48] You tune into the fix and the fix is in.

[00:45:51] Welcome back.

[00:45:51] Welcome back, DJ focus, Dice Gamble.

[00:45:54] In the middle of this real talk conversation.

[00:45:56] And we talking about it today.

[00:45:57] You know, desert experiences in faith and, you know, I think we need

[00:46:02] to unpack a little bit, you know, kind of get some tips on how to build

[00:46:05] that spirit man up, Dice.

[00:46:07] I know for me one, I kind of I'm kind of mentioning it, but I think

[00:46:11] to go back to it just a little bit more.

[00:46:14] Listen, you need to.

[00:46:17] Resist isolation and connect with the community that can help you.

[00:46:22] I think that's that's something that a lot of people feel to

[00:46:24] realize in that scripture of Matthew four to one, where Jesus was

[00:46:28] out in the wilderness.

[00:46:29] Listen, Jesus was not alone.

[00:46:31] He always had his Lord and Savior, his father that he was constantly

[00:46:35] talking to in the midst of him being out in the wilderness and

[00:46:39] the devil trying to tip him.

[00:46:40] So I think a lot of times people fall and backslide because.

[00:46:44] Hold on, hold on, hold on.

[00:46:47] He didn't have, he didn't have God for 39 days.

[00:46:52] So let's let's get that right.

[00:46:54] I love you brother, but I was like, because I don't, I want, I want,

[00:46:57] I want us all to understand this.

[00:46:59] It was not it wasn't until he got up out there focused.

[00:47:03] Last night at the end of it, you know what I'm saying?

[00:47:06] Right now that's what I'm talking about.

[00:47:07] So I was, I was working to that point to the, at the end of it,

[00:47:09] he was, he clearly had a communication.

[00:47:12] He was talking with them.

[00:47:13] Yeah.

[00:47:13] Yeah.

[00:47:14] I just don't, I didn't want the listener to actually believe

[00:47:17] that sometimes God is literally chatting back and forth with you for 40

[00:47:22] days, because a wilderness moment could be for a year and you feel

[00:47:28] like God is nowhere and it's not that God isn't there.

[00:47:31] It's just we're not going to talk.

[00:47:34] So you like, I just, I just go ahead.

[00:47:38] Now, which it could be for a day too.

[00:47:41] Some people have a bad day and they don't even understand

[00:47:44] that's a wilderness day.

[00:47:45] So yeah, that's what I'm saying.

[00:47:47] Like it's not that God has left you, but it might not be no

[00:47:49] conversations, you know, because God is chatty.

[00:47:51] You don't say, if you're open to it, but in that wilderness spot,

[00:47:57] go ahead.

[00:47:58] Cause it, what I'm feeling is it's going to happen to your point

[00:48:01] when you finish what you're saying about how to build up.

[00:48:03] Yes.

[00:48:04] So, so, so, so again, I was working into the test, you know,

[00:48:08] in that wilderness is the test.

[00:48:10] And that's sometimes we fail the test because our spirit man

[00:48:14] has not built up strong enough.

[00:48:16] So again, to your point, absolutely.

[00:48:19] He didn't talk and he didn't have the conversation until the last day,

[00:48:23] but he still had a moment to still talk with him.

[00:48:26] And I think a lot of times people think they're all the way

[00:48:28] isolated in their alone that there's never going to be a moment

[00:48:32] that they're going to be able to have a talk with him.

[00:48:35] So they just say, forget it.

[00:48:37] I know a lot of people say, you know what?

[00:48:38] Nobody cared about me.

[00:48:40] Nobody loved me.

[00:48:41] I wasn't getting no infection from my spouse.

[00:48:43] My kids don't love me.

[00:48:44] My mama don't love me.

[00:48:45] God ain't hearing me right now when I'm talking to them.

[00:48:48] So they just stay all the way in the wilderness instead of coming out of that thing.

[00:48:53] So that's that's the point I was trying to work my way up to to get to that.

[00:48:58] Yes, you need to work your spirit man before you even get to that place

[00:49:02] because I see a lot of people and when you talk about years,

[00:49:05] I talked to a lot of people who are spiritually dead

[00:49:08] and they've been spiritually dead for years.

[00:49:10] And it's because they're not working on it.

[00:49:12] They're not sacrificing and doing the work that they need to do.

[00:49:20] If any of you are in your wilderness right now, I'll be honest with you.

[00:49:25] I love this scripture and I love this passage

[00:49:29] and I love that we get to tap into the human part of God,

[00:49:36] you know, in the flesh.

[00:49:37] And honestly, this is why we have this whole wilderness peace in the Bible

[00:49:41] is to let us know we can get through it.

[00:49:43] And it's also to let us know that Christ did it.

[00:49:46] You can do it too.

[00:49:48] And this is what you have to do when you're in the wilderness,

[00:49:51] like focus of saying you need to be prepared for that.

[00:49:54] Because in the wilderness, that's when Christ was tempted.

[00:49:58] But the way he fought temptation is he knew the word.

[00:50:01] So every time the enemy offered him a thing,

[00:50:03] he knew what scripture had already said.

[00:50:05] He knew what God had already said.

[00:50:08] And I will suggest and I'm just ruminating here.

[00:50:12] But if you are in your wilderness, please walk through

[00:50:16] your pride, the pride of life.

[00:50:19] Yeah, luster the flesh, you know, like, like walk through the things that

[00:50:24] that pride of monster, the luster, you know, just like, what are you?

[00:50:29] What are you lusting after with your eyes, your flesh and just life?

[00:50:33] Because it's a humility piece in the wilderness.

[00:50:37] And that's the place that we need to get to.

[00:50:40] You know, I'm saying, like, OK, like, who's running this?

[00:50:42] Yeah. And what did I say about running it?

[00:50:44] Like, do you know my word?

[00:50:45] Like, that's why I was saying I would try and be funny a minute ago.

[00:50:48] But I just like, whoa, I just wanted to make sure the listeners know,

[00:50:51] like, it's tough being in the wilderness.

[00:50:54] It's not easy. That's why nobody wants to go.

[00:50:57] That's why things die in the wilderness.

[00:50:59] If you Google right now any wilderness,

[00:51:02] it's some places people can't go because you you probably gonna die.

[00:51:06] But that's what the wilderness is designed for.

[00:51:09] Pride has to die in the wilderness.

[00:51:12] And then you are to tap into the word of God.

[00:51:15] And that's what I'm saying, like, Jesus gave us the perfect example

[00:51:19] of how to push through that, you know?

[00:51:23] Anyway.

[00:51:25] So I think, go ahead, it just irritates me when people get in the wilderness

[00:51:27] and then they act like Jesus, Saint or God isn't there or Jesus isn't there

[00:51:31] or this isn't a part of Christianity.

[00:51:34] I'm like, this is what we do.

[00:51:36] You know, you should get excited, honestly, like, oh, opportunity.

[00:51:42] And it's an opportunity for us, you know, to get closer to God.

[00:51:45] And the show God literally like, I got this.

[00:51:47] Like, if you put me here, I know you're here.

[00:51:50] So so let me let me let me get on in here because I remember what you said.

[00:51:53] But

[00:51:56] let's that's good.

[00:51:57] That's good when you say the opportunity.

[00:51:58] I'm glad you brought that up because it is when you're in that

[00:52:01] wilderness season or that day or that that that particular moment.

[00:52:05] It is an opportunity for spiritual growth.

[00:52:08] And a lot of people miss that,

[00:52:10] that a lot of people don't understand that, yes, this is a challenge

[00:52:13] that you need to walk through so you can overcome it.

[00:52:16] Because I listen, I'm telling you, I struggled in a for a little while

[00:52:21] in this area and to like you said, I had to say, you know what,

[00:52:25] either I'm going to be a leader or I'm going to be a follower

[00:52:28] because at the end of the day, that's pretty much what it is.

[00:52:30] When you go into these environments, you can lead by example

[00:52:33] and say, no, I'm not going to do it.

[00:52:35] I'm going to show them that you can actually resist from temptation

[00:52:39] and not be lured in these things and not do these things.

[00:52:42] Or I'm going to do it.

[00:52:44] It's really simple.

[00:52:45] So yes, that is an opportunity for spiritual growth.

[00:52:48] I'm glad you brought that up.

[00:52:48] That's powerful.

[00:52:50] Yeah, it is.

[00:52:51] And it's, I don't know, man, I just, I just.

[00:52:56] It took me years to get that mindset and you laugh a lot

[00:52:59] when I when I'm like, oh, this is easy.

[00:53:01] You know, this is what it is.

[00:53:02] And it's because it's like it's supposed to happen.

[00:53:05] And I doubt you ever go to church

[00:53:08] and you'll hear a scripture and say it were a pastor or not

[00:53:10] a passage where pastors preaching to people.

[00:53:13] Your wilderness is on the way

[00:53:15] because churches don't want to scare people off.

[00:53:18] They don't want to, you know, they don't want people to be

[00:53:20] afraid of Christianity or afraid to be alone because those that,

[00:53:24] you know, that's one of the top five being alone fears,

[00:53:27] you know, from a human perspective on this earth.

[00:53:30] But when you're Christian, you know, I'm never alone.

[00:53:34] I am never alone.

[00:53:35] Even if I am alone, you know, in a desert, I am not alone.

[00:53:39] But I really, I really like, you know, talking about the

[00:53:44] experiences, you know, in our faith that have us alone

[00:53:48] because it's hard for people to be alone.

[00:53:50] And I'm like, I think if you can master that,

[00:53:53] your ministry would go to a different level.

[00:53:55] Your relationship would go to a different level.

[00:53:57] You know, your business would go to a different level.

[00:54:00] You know, always trying to play that victim role

[00:54:02] and blame everybody else.

[00:54:04] Oh, my wife and my husband on whoop-de-woop.

[00:54:06] You know, all at work, my boss, you know, I'm saying

[00:54:08] how I church they was what we do.

[00:54:09] It's like, OK, be all right, being alone.

[00:54:13] And while you're being alone, check the pride of life,

[00:54:17] the pride of the flesh and the pride of your eyes.

[00:54:20] And while you're doing that, trust me, you going to be busy.

[00:54:23] You won't be thinking about what other people are doing.

[00:54:25] And you will be expecting to hear from God at the end.

[00:54:28] And the crazy part is this this account with Christ

[00:54:31] being in the wilderness, isn't it?

[00:54:33] It's in Luke.

[00:54:34] He was filled with power after it.

[00:54:37] So I'm like, if you know you're in the wilderness,

[00:54:39] get excited for the power that's going to follow you

[00:54:42] after you come out of that world.

[00:54:43] Like you about to be a superhero.

[00:54:46] So that's why I'm like, all right.

[00:54:47] So you have to expect, you know, I don't think

[00:54:49] we expect enough from God.

[00:54:50] And it's like, God is faithful.

[00:54:52] God does what he does.

[00:54:53] And we always have the answers to the test

[00:54:55] before we go through it.

[00:54:55] So it's like, if you already know,

[00:54:58] all right, man, I'm out here.

[00:55:00] Oh, what do I know?

[00:55:01] I need to get my word one because the devil's going to get me.

[00:55:04] And I need to make sure I know what God said concerning

[00:55:07] that test is on the way.

[00:55:09] And then I need to know I'm going to hear from God after this.

[00:55:11] God's got a word for me after this

[00:55:13] and I'm going to get extra special power after this.

[00:55:16] So this is a necessary part of my development and I welcome it.

[00:55:20] And that's the attitude that we have to have when we're walking through.

[00:55:24] Absolutely.

[00:55:25] And you said something powerful to reflect on how Jesus

[00:55:28] responded to temptation by knowing that word.

[00:55:30] Jesus quoted them scriptures.

[00:55:32] Let's be very clear back and forth.

[00:55:35] So yeah, that's powerful.

[00:55:37] Listen, DJ Focus Dice Gamble.

[00:55:39] Yeah, we just talking about it today.

[00:55:40] We got to go to a break.

[00:55:41] We going right back.

[00:55:42] We talking about desert experiences and faith.

[00:55:44] Keep it locked.

[00:55:45] You tune into the fix and the fix is in.

[00:55:48] All right, y'all, that's it.

[00:55:49] Well, we got to get out of here dice.

[00:55:50] But how good was that real talk?

[00:55:52] Convo today, huh?

[00:55:53] It was really, really good, you know,

[00:55:56] we have to talk about our desert experiences

[00:55:57] a little bit more, you know, I mean,

[00:56:00] I think those are just as important as, you know, the highs that we have.

[00:56:04] But, you know, if you are definitely in the middle of a desert experience,

[00:56:08] I hope you had got some good revelation today about Christ being tempted.

[00:56:12] Like we are tempted and this is another reason why why God had to go through that.

[00:56:16] A lot of people are like, well, you know, why would, you know,

[00:56:20] if Jesus is all powerful, you know what I'm saying?

[00:56:22] And, you know, he's got all the power, you know, like, why would he be tempted?

[00:56:26] But it's like he had to show us that we could overcome temptation.

[00:56:30] And so that's that's what that is.

[00:56:33] But yeah, these desert moments in our life are times of reflection.

[00:56:36] They're times where we kind of figure out who we are.

[00:56:39] You know, these are times where we get to actually hear from God

[00:56:43] what our identity is.

[00:56:44] So if you are in that space, it's super important not to hear the voice

[00:56:48] of the enemy, you know, it's definitely time for you to lean into what

[00:56:52] is what does God say I am?

[00:56:53] Like, who does God say I am?

[00:56:55] Like, you know, where has God leading me?

[00:56:57] So yeah, like the enemy does come in our moments of solitude.

[00:57:03] I always say that's that's his best time to try to come for you, you know,

[00:57:06] because there's nobody around, but we all have been given the power to overcome.

[00:57:10] And so I just encourage each and every person to, you know, like dig deep,

[00:57:14] you know, in a desert experience or in your deserted season, maybe your

[00:57:18] friends have left or you've lost loved ones or there's some changes

[00:57:21] going on in your life.

[00:57:23] There's something in it for you.

[00:57:25] And I think people always forget that, like, oh, stuff is happening to me.

[00:57:28] No, stuff is happening for you.

[00:57:31] So I just want, you know, I just want to throw that out there, you know,

[00:57:35] just leaning on God a little bit stronger, you know, when we're weak,

[00:57:38] he's definitely strong. Absolutely.

[00:57:41] Yeah, I love that.

[00:57:42] Trust the process to his way because it's a process.

[00:57:44] I know everybody wants everything to happen overnight, but trust the

[00:57:47] process. He's building you in that season when he has you there for a moment.

[00:57:52] So it's okay. Believe me, we all go through him and they're uncomfortable.

[00:57:58] Let's be very clear.

[00:57:58] Super uncomfortable.

[00:58:00] But so is the word of God.

[00:58:01] So yeah, yeah, that's the whole other thing.

[00:58:05] Shouts out to the super talented listen, T'lisha Brary.

[00:59:30] Kingdom of answering should always be the goal.

[00:59:32] The fix is in.

[00:59:33] We out.

[00:59:34] Peace out.
