[00:10:32] Two and three tubs of it and just knock it off every day
[00:10:34] That ain't why it's not why
[00:10:36] Because somebody just bought

[00:11:02] I only get to eat girls
[00:11:04] Why are you keeping them in the closet
[00:11:06] And not in the cupboard or the pantry

[00:11:14] So every shout out to this black history month
[00:11:16] This is the black history fact
[00:11:18] And you can go across America
[00:11:20] And you will learn as African Americans
[00:11:22] There are certain things that we do not
[00:11:24] Want other people to touch and therefore
[00:11:26] We do not put them in areas where other
[00:11:28] People have access like we
[00:11:30] Live by that rule it is
[00:11:32] It's almost like we were taught
[00:11:34] That growing up like make sure you get
[00:11:36] You know you got a little extra space
[00:11:38] A little hiding spot for your special
[00:11:40] Girl scout cookies like me them thin
[00:11:42] Mints I got thin mints
[00:11:45] Right here looking at me right now
[00:11:47] Yeah yeah
[00:11:49] Yeah so yeah yeah but here's the thing
[00:11:51] If you're going to eat these cookies
[00:11:53] And set ice cream like this
[00:11:55] Go walking go running
[00:11:57] Go burn it off
[00:11:59] Drink you some water like don't just
[00:12:01] I think you were saying that a minute ago folks
[00:12:03] You can't just buy like a big tub of something
[00:12:05] And just eat the whole thing
[00:12:07] And not do anything behind that
[00:12:09] Go through that go through that
[00:12:11] Keep it balanced keep it balanced
[00:12:13] I'm getting better I'm getting better
[00:12:15] I'm trying to get better y'all
[00:12:17] Fell off a little bit this month but I'm getting back on track
[00:12:19] Yeah just get back on track
[00:12:21] Yeah this was this was a rough month for me

[00:12:27] It was sometimes you just had them little
[00:12:29] Rough little patches and it's a rough
[00:12:31] And yeah you got to get yourself back motivated
[00:12:33] And I'm saying this has been a rough month
[00:12:35] For me in the gym going to the gym
[00:12:37] I'm going to get back on track

[00:13:03] Don't do slang
[00:13:05] I was slacking
[00:13:07] I was slacking yeah
[00:13:09] Gym time and January flew by
[00:13:11] I don't know if anybody noticed January came
[00:13:13] And we lost January
[00:13:15] I think January was like a week
[00:13:17] And now it's almost
[00:13:19] February 2nd guys listen
[00:13:21] Literally we're in the last week of
[00:13:23] February right now

[00:14:25] Because I didn't stretch and do some other things
[00:14:27] So I'm back in it
[00:14:29] Two years I'm taking home a number one spot
[00:14:31] That's just it
[00:14:33] That's just it
[00:14:35] Keep it locked we gotta go to a quick break
[00:14:37] We're coming right back with more
[00:14:39] You tune into the fix
[00:14:41] And the fix is in
[00:14:43] I'm Justin Adams and this is your The Fix Faith
[00:14:45] And Sports Report
[00:14:47] This was the first weekend without football
[00:14:49] And to be honest with you man I missed it
[00:14:51] But you know what we had a lot of basketball
[00:14:53] Hockey season is in full effect
[00:14:55] So we got a lot of different things to talk about
[00:14:57] Our scripture verses of the day
[00:14:59] And it comes from Proverbs 13 20
[00:15:01] Which says this in a new living translation
[00:15:03] Walk with the wise and become wise
[00:15:05] Associate with fools
[00:15:07] And get in trouble again
[00:15:09] Walk with the wise
[00:15:11] And become wise
[00:15:13] Associate with fools
[00:15:15] And get in trouble
[00:15:17] The English Standard Version also says this
[00:15:19] Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise
[00:15:21] But the companion of fools
[00:15:23] Will suffer harm again
[00:15:25] And that's Proverbs 13 20
[00:15:27] Which is our verse in the day
[00:15:29] Alright so for the first time since 2017
[00:15:31] The NBA All-Star Game
[00:15:33] We're turned to the Eastern Conference
[00:15:35] Versus Western Conference format
[00:15:37] In hopes of making a game a lot more competitive
[00:15:39] Well that didn't happen
[00:15:41] As the Eastern Conference beat the Western Conference
[00:15:43] In a very lackluster game
[00:15:45] 211 to 186
[00:15:47] Yes, 211
[00:15:49] 211 to 186
[00:15:51] Yes, 211
[00:15:53] 211 to 186
[00:15:55] Yes, 211 to 186
[00:15:57] Yes, 211 to 186
[00:15:59] It was the highest score in All-Star Game
[00:16:01] In league history
[00:16:03] Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard scored 39
[00:16:05] Points and was named the
[00:16:07] 2024 Kobe Bryant All-Star
[00:16:09] Game MVP
[00:16:11] Hey College Hoops starting in the top 25
[00:16:13] We have a number 2 team
[00:16:15] In the nation
[00:16:17] Yes they went down on the road
[00:16:19] They were shocked earlier this week
[00:16:24] With the coaching change
[00:16:26] And they rocked the college basketball world today
[00:16:28] With a 4 point win
[00:16:30] The Ohio State Buckeyes upset
[00:16:32] The second ranked Purdue bowling makers
[00:16:34] By our final score of 73
[00:16:36] To 69
[00:16:38] Now this win comes after Ohio State's head coach
[00:16:40] Chris Holstman
[00:16:42] Was fired earlier last week
[00:16:44] Actually was fired last Wednesday
[00:16:46] Now that wasn't the only upset of the day
[00:16:48] As Unraked South Florida
[00:16:50] The number 24 Florida
[00:16:52] Atlantic
[00:16:54] 90 to 86
[00:16:56] Now on the women's side looking at the top 10 action
[00:16:58] Top ranked South Carolina defeated Georgia
[00:17:00] 70 to 56
[00:17:02] Number 6 North Carolina State
[00:17:04] Held off Georgia Tech
[00:17:06] 86 to 85 in overtime
[00:17:08] And UCLA got the road win over
[00:17:10] Oregon 74 to
[00:17:12] 55 also number 10
[00:17:14] USC beat 11th ranked
[00:17:16] Oregon State 58
[00:17:18] 250
[00:17:20] And now this in an NHL
[00:17:22] The Pittsburgh Penguins retired number 68
[00:17:24] In honor of Yara Miryager
[00:17:26] It's the third number retired by the penguins
[00:17:28] In team history
[00:17:30] Now unfortunately for Pittsburgh
[00:17:32] The Los Angeles Kings run the night
[00:17:34] By beating the Pittsburgh Penguins to the 1
[00:17:36] I'm Justin Adams and this is
[00:17:38] Video to Fix Faith in Sports Report
[00:17:40] Not back to DJ Focus at Dice Gamble
[00:17:42] As the fix is it
[00:17:44] Welcome back DJ Focus
[00:17:46] Dice Gamble you tap back into the fix
[00:17:48] It's time for our spiritual detox
[00:17:50] You know how we do it
[00:17:52] We always look to highlight artists
[00:17:54] Who are doing some powerful things
[00:17:56] And some up and coming artists
[00:17:58] Maybe you don't know about
[00:18:00] You might have been sleeping on
[00:18:02] We joined by a super talented artist
[00:18:04] And he got some of his friends too as well
[00:18:06] And he's working on a collaborative project
[00:18:08] I know they got a song out right now
[00:18:10] So I'm pretty sure they're working on a lot more
[00:18:12] Music to come so listen without further ado
[00:18:14] Help me welcome in the super talented
[00:18:16] What's going on Mo?
[00:18:18] What's good brother, my brother everything good
[00:18:20] Everything good here how you making up
[00:18:22] Man I'm good man I appreciate you
[00:18:24] Man in your squad stopping by
[00:18:26] Man today just to talk about
[00:18:28] A little bit of everything music wise
[00:18:30] First though you know
[00:18:32] Catch people up a little bit on
[00:18:34] A little bit of your faith journey man
[00:18:36] Because I think you got a unique faith story
[00:18:38] That people need to hear before we talk
[00:18:40] About all the music and the collaborations
[00:18:42] Yeah I
[00:18:44] Found Christ
[00:18:46] A number of years ago maybe from the last
[00:18:48] 15 to 20 years of my life
[00:18:50] Through kind of a tragic incident
[00:18:52] But at the same time I'm glad it happened
[00:18:54] Because it led me to
[00:18:56] My Lord and Savior and it was
[00:18:58] What a difference it made in my life
[00:19:00] And I'm just grateful for every day
[00:19:02] Of life man every day I get to wake up
[00:19:04] And experience this
[00:19:06] Go through this journey every day man
[00:19:08] I'm just so grateful for it
[00:19:10] That's good thanks for sharing that
[00:19:12] You know so walk us through how
[00:19:14] Did you even start to
[00:19:16] When was your first introduction
[00:19:18] Into doing any form of music
[00:19:20] Okay that happened
[00:19:22] As a teenager I used to try and
[00:19:24] Write songs and everything and
[00:19:26] It was a dream of mine
[00:19:28] And when I was a young man
[00:19:30] I actually had went to the studio
[00:19:32] And recorded the song
[00:19:34] And got some interest
[00:19:36] And I say this
[00:19:38] Back in the mid 90's and
[00:19:40] I was at the park
[00:19:42] Had been in Baltimore
[00:19:44] And his role manager and everything
[00:19:46] And the guy that I
[00:19:48] Whose studio I was working out of
[00:19:50] Gave me his number
[00:19:52] And I was supposed to call him
[00:19:54] Because I had some interest in it
[00:19:56] Just before I'm saved or anything like that
[00:19:58] And unfortunately
[00:20:00] Two Park Pass
[00:20:02] So that opportunity kind of
[00:20:04] Went away
[00:20:06] And I kind of you know
[00:20:08] Like I said I got involved
[00:20:10] I was introduced to the Lord
[00:20:12] Changed my life
[00:20:14] And I decided
[00:20:16] After that happened that I would
[00:20:18] At that point in time go back and try
[00:20:20] And I heard the Lord whisper to me
[00:20:22] To give this music opportunity one more chance
[00:20:24] And that's what I did and I said Lord
[00:20:26] If I do
[00:20:28] I'm going to give it everything I have
[00:20:30] And that's what happened and you know
[00:20:32] We are the rest of history
[00:20:34] Well you were a little reserved
[00:20:36] To call Two Park's manager
[00:20:38] Robo
[00:20:39] So you found a connection to
[00:20:41] Two Park and kind of to work with them
[00:20:43] Where you're a little reserved to call
[00:20:45] What was, what was, I understand
[00:20:47] You said he passed away but
[00:20:49] Did you kind of sit on that for a while
[00:20:51] Before you thought about calling?
[00:20:53] Yeah I actually did because I wanted this
[00:20:55] To be perfect before I gave him the call
[00:20:57] I wanted a song to be absolutely perfect
[00:20:59] I'm just a, I try to be a perfectionist
[00:21:01] As much as you know
[00:21:03] That's kind of my nature
[00:21:05] I'm just going to be absolutely perfect before I send it out
[00:21:07] And possibly share it with the world
[00:21:09] So with my, with me doing that
[00:21:11] Unfortunately he met his untimely demise
[00:21:13] And it just
[00:21:15] It just, it just
[00:21:17] Kind of set me off in a spiral
[00:21:19] No that makes sense
[00:21:21] Talk a little bit about that a little bit more man
[00:21:23] Because I love what I can talk about
[00:21:25] You know hip hop about all things hip hop
[00:21:27] With somebody who knows the genre
[00:21:29] And just knows how the history of hip hop
[00:21:31] Of course last year we know we celebrated 50 years
[00:21:33] What do you think we still are
[00:21:35] You know I know you know it was last year 50 years
[00:21:37] But what do you think the hip hop culture is
[00:21:39] In itself
[00:21:41] When you talk about 50 years, 51 years
[00:21:43] Now of the genre being around
[00:21:45] What do you think we are when you talk about the state of hip hop
[00:21:48] Um
[00:21:50] Listen I go back to Sugar Hill game
[00:21:52] I remember when this thing kicked off
[00:21:54] Back in the late 70's
[00:21:56] And we've come a
[00:21:59] A mighty long way
[00:22:01] In terms of hip hop being an influence
[00:22:03] In our culture
[00:22:05] And uh
[00:22:07] But not everything has been necessarily positive
[00:22:09] You know not everything has been
[00:22:11] Necessarily positive and that's one
[00:22:13] One thing when um
[00:22:15] When I became saved
[00:22:17] You know I made it
[00:22:19] I was determined to um
[00:22:21] To put out positive
[00:22:23] Uplifting spiritual music
[00:22:25] Just thanking God
[00:22:27] Basically for everyday life man
[00:22:29] I just heard my determination
[00:22:31] Why do you think hip hop got away from that message
[00:22:33] Cause I agree with you
[00:22:35] Uh the origin of hip hop
[00:22:37] When you talk about like you say the late 70's
[00:22:39] Early 80's it still
[00:22:41] You know absolutely it was storytelling on
[00:22:43] You know culture and things
[00:22:45] Societal issues and everything
[00:22:47] But it was still always to uplift our culture
[00:22:49] Why do you think the message got away from that
[00:22:51] I think to a degree um
[00:22:53] We started uh
[00:22:55] With some
[00:22:57] With some
[00:22:59] Started celebrating it was
[00:23:01] For some it was a celebration of um
[00:23:03] The wrong things in our culture
[00:23:05] Um
[00:23:07] I just you know we started
[00:23:09] Glorifying some violence
[00:23:11] Some drugs
[00:23:13] Things of this nature we started becoming more
[00:23:15] More aggressive
[00:23:17] I think and that started
[00:23:19] I think people started celebrating that
[00:23:21] And unfortunately
[00:23:23] We're seeing we're kind of seeing the fruits of that now
[00:23:25] We have so much uh gang violence
[00:23:27] And activity in our streets now
[00:23:29] As I believe a direct result of that
[00:23:31] Because now that's glorifying
[00:23:33] Yeah yeah it is
[00:23:35] And it shouts out to you know the ones
[00:23:37] Who are listening uh who are still making some
[00:23:39] Positive uh hip hop out there
[00:23:41] I know there are still some artists mainstream artists
[00:23:43] Outside of what we do in our genre
[00:23:45] You know Christian hip hop, faith invasive hip hop
[00:23:47] So yeah that's good
[00:23:49] So come on man talk us through man
[00:23:51] I know you got uh you know you got your squad
[00:23:53] You got your music journey to as well
[00:23:55] Uh Goodie Shepherd as well as uh Chas Grant
[00:23:57] How did you connect with them
[00:23:59] And I know they want to hop into
[00:24:01] As well and tell a little bit of their music
[00:24:03] Journey to as well
[00:24:05] Sure uh with Chas and Isis
[00:24:07] Be on the same praise and worship team
[00:24:09] At our church
[00:24:11] We started out working together
[00:24:13] They're actually uh praise and worship leader
[00:24:15] She led us and we just
[00:24:17] We got introduced to Goodie
[00:24:19] Through a mutual friend
[00:24:21] You know so it's been a blessing
[00:24:23] To work with them on this particular project
[00:24:25] And I'm just encouraged
[00:24:27] And uh thank God for them
[00:24:29] That's good
[00:24:31] So Chas can I let me just
[00:24:33] Talk to you for a moment uh just speak
[00:24:35] About your unique sound
[00:24:37] I think you bring something different to this record
[00:24:39] That's needed
[00:24:41] So just speak to your unique sound
[00:24:43] Somebody would ask you you know who would you compare yourself
[00:24:45] To or what is your unique
[00:24:47] Singing sound what would you tell
[00:24:49] People
[00:24:51] First off I want to say thank you for having us here
[00:24:53] It's really a honor to be here
[00:24:55] Talk to you
[00:24:57] My sound I think my influences
[00:24:59] Would be like
[00:25:01] Murray Murray
[00:25:03] Jill Scott
[00:25:05] Just a combination of like
[00:25:07] Neosoul and gospel
[00:25:09] Cause that's what I was raised on from my mom
[00:25:11] She would sing to me as a child
[00:25:13] And I would pick up one of those things
[00:25:15] Also like
[00:25:17] Different choirs and stuff
[00:25:19] Cause I grew up singing in community choirs
[00:25:21] And at school and stuff like that
[00:25:23] One of my best friends started his own
[00:25:25] Community choir voices of inspiration
[00:25:27] When we were in high school
[00:25:29] And I get a lot of my vibrato
[00:25:31] From
[00:25:33] Having to push out those big notes
[00:25:35] So I have
[00:25:37] Like a heavy vibrato
[00:25:39] With like a alto tone
[00:25:41] It's very reflective
[00:25:43] Of the music that I listen to
[00:25:45] Which is like really heavy and
[00:25:47] Heavily inspired by like Neosoul
[00:25:49] And R&B
[00:25:51] And gospel
[00:25:53] Cause when I was growing up
[00:25:55] People like Murray Murray and
[00:25:57] Kirk Franklin and all of those
[00:25:59] Artists who had a combination of those
[00:26:01] Types of things
[00:26:03] That's what I was listening to
[00:26:05] As well as like Yolanda Adams love her
[00:26:07] One of the best singers of all time
[00:26:11] But yeah those are the type
[00:26:13] Of influences that I have
[00:26:15] And you've been singing a long time
[00:26:17] Talk about that
[00:26:19] I feel like you've always kind of
[00:26:21] Been like a little singing little hummingbirds
[00:26:23] Since you're like four years old
[00:26:25] So you know
[00:26:27] Speak to the importance of one just growing up
[00:26:29] Singing being able to have that gift early
[00:26:31] But also I do agree
[00:26:33] With a lot of the artists you said
[00:26:35] That you know you kind of feel like
[00:26:37] You have some similarities to them
[00:26:39] But I still think you do have your own
[00:26:41] Unique style speak to the
[00:26:43] Importance of not staying stuck
[00:26:45] In a box and being uniquely
[00:26:47] You with your sound
[00:26:49] Well with me
[00:26:51] Because I have such a
[00:26:53] Heavy vibrato for me
[00:26:55] It had to be something that I grew into
[00:26:57] Being confident in when I was
[00:26:59] A little you know baby
[00:27:01] Or whatever singing because I used to
[00:27:03] Call in on the radio my cousin used to
[00:27:05] Work for Heaven 600 here in Baltimore
[00:27:07] And my mother would call
[00:27:09] And let me sing
[00:27:11] I can't remember the song right now
[00:27:13] However
[00:27:15] I was so confident as a
[00:27:17] Baby or whatever you get older
[00:27:19] You start comparing yourself to other people
[00:27:21] Now that I'm you know in my womanhood
[00:27:23] I've started to be comfortable with
[00:27:25] My own voice and making things work
[00:27:27] For me and listening to artists
[00:27:29] Who have similarities to me
[00:27:31] So that I can you know
[00:27:33] Champion my own voice
[00:27:35] And be confident in that not only
[00:27:37] Being able to sing
[00:27:39] And minister has
[00:27:41] Made me draw closer to God
[00:27:43] It gives me a way to be able to
[00:27:45] Express myself to him
[00:27:47] Myself without having it
[00:27:49] You know compared to anybody else's
[00:27:51] Praise he's given me such a gift
[00:27:53] To be able to really give it back
[00:27:55] To him so it's a blessing
[00:27:57] To be able to sing all the time
[00:27:59] When I'm down I can sing whatever
[00:28:01] I'm going through I sing all day
[00:28:03] To help me get through my day
[00:28:05] And it's such a blessing to be able to have that
[00:28:07] In combination
[00:28:09] With being able to you know speak to God
[00:28:11] Directly but I can speak to him
[00:28:13] In a way that is comfortable for me
[00:28:15] Because singing is something that
[00:28:17] Comes natural
[00:28:19] That's good thanks for sharing
[00:28:21] Come on goodie let me talk to you for a moment
[00:28:23] Because you do a little bit of everything goodie
[00:28:25] And I think the people need to know
[00:28:27] So first man
[00:28:29] So I hate to
[00:28:31] Put you on the spot like this but if you had to pick
[00:28:33] Which one do you like the best
[00:28:35] Do you like producing better or you like being an
[00:28:37] Artist better
[00:28:39] I
[00:28:41] I like being an artist better
[00:28:43] Okay
[00:28:45] It was something that you know started out as me a child
[00:28:47] Being a child my father was
[00:28:49] Instrumentally he played trumpet
[00:28:51] And I wanted to be like him
[00:28:53] So I started off playing the trombone in third grade
[00:28:55] And music
[00:28:57] I loved there and as he
[00:28:59] You know come getting older and older
[00:29:01] And I was in the middle of it and I was
[00:29:03] Playing with him in a shape as far as the musician
[00:29:05] I learned that oh if I play this keyboard
[00:29:07] It'll have a thousand different sounds on it
[00:29:09] And I could play everything with this keyboard
[00:29:11] So I started playing the keyboard
[00:29:13] And then I was introducing to like studio work
[00:29:15] By other people and God just kept
[00:29:17] Putting things in my way like
[00:29:19] You know put things in my path
[00:29:21] And I wasn't really realizing it
[00:29:23] Like the young man I was chasing money
[00:29:25] Was very secular minded
[00:29:27] And didn't see that people
[00:29:29] Christian hip hop even then and I was like
[00:29:31] Ah it was cool this is different but you know
[00:29:33] It ain't what I wanted to be
[00:29:35] And um I guess
[00:29:37] Everybody in my family
[00:29:39] In my generation are rappers
[00:29:41] And I was a kid looking up at my older brothers rapping
[00:29:43] And stuff and I said let me give this a try
[00:29:45] And while producing I was learning
[00:29:47] How to rap and I really started
[00:29:49] Starting rapping like at 14
[00:29:51] And 16 I started taking it a little
[00:29:53] Almost serious and I realized
[00:29:55] That yeah although I love
[00:29:57] Producing and making music
[00:29:59] This is how I can get a message across
[00:30:01] And I double dabble with Christian
[00:30:03] Hip hop until like the age of 25
[00:30:05] When I actually heard God speak to me
[00:30:07] Speak to me and um
[00:30:09] He started revealing things to me about the evil
[00:30:11] That's inside the music industry these days
[00:30:13] Um there's actual
[00:30:15] Satan worship that goes on
[00:30:17] There's demonic worship that goes on
[00:30:19] He opened my eyes to the lust
[00:30:21] He opened my eyes to demonic things
[00:30:23] Like I see and he was like alright that's enough study
[00:30:25] Back to me and I feel as though
[00:30:27] With all that
[00:30:29] In my um in my history
[00:30:31] And things I've experienced
[00:30:33] I can get a message across better
[00:30:35] Not with just instruments but with a vocal
[00:30:37] And with uh rapping
[00:30:39] And that's the language of the young folk
[00:30:41] Today is it's hip hop
[00:30:43] You know we rap and sing we sing
[00:30:45] And we gotta get a positive message out
[00:30:47] And I could put an instrument on
[00:30:49] But if it comes to giving that word
[00:30:51] I think rapping would be more of a love for me
[00:30:53] That's solid
[00:30:55] Listen you said something I gotta go back a little bit
[00:30:57] You said something and I wanna get some thoughts
[00:30:59] On some feedback
[00:31:01] From you on
[00:31:03] Did you think the church is running away
[00:31:05] From the spiritual conversation
[00:31:07] You said something about a God
[00:31:09] Kind of revealed to you the spirit
[00:31:11] That was over the music industry
[00:31:13] And how it was demonic in certain areas
[00:31:15] Do you think the church is running away from those conversations
[00:31:17] When you talk about spiritual warfare
[00:31:19] And things being spiritual
[00:31:21] Outside of looking at the individual
[00:31:23] Instead of identifying
[00:31:25] The spirit that's in that person
[00:31:27] I don't think the church is running away
[00:31:29] From it pertaining to the music industry
[00:31:31] I think they just don't know about it
[00:31:33] Now they come up with
[00:31:35] Black and white there's no gray area
[00:31:37] As far as church they say
[00:31:39] You shouldn't listen to this and this is the wrong music
[00:31:41] But they don't talk about the spiritual implications
[00:31:43] Behind it simple fact this
[00:31:45] Because there's not a lot of people speaking out about
[00:31:47] The study of spiritual warfare behind
[00:31:49] What we're listening to
[00:31:51] I've been to many churches where I've had to tell them about
[00:31:53] Why I do Christian hip hop
[00:31:55] And it's like you know I have to explain to them
[00:31:57] This power in the tongue
[00:31:59] Now they can agree with that because that's in the bible
[00:32:01] And it's straight black and white
[00:32:03] When I say well when you sing something
[00:32:05] Or rap something or put praise into it
[00:32:07] You actually giving it power
[00:32:09] So you're not just giving it power to manifest
[00:32:11] You're actually speaking things to give it power
[00:32:13] Because you're singing it into your life
[00:32:15] So they are not even educated on it yet
[00:32:17] And there's a lot of churches that are
[00:32:19] But there's a lot of churches that need to catch up
[00:32:21] And I don't think they're afraid and the ones that I've
[00:32:23] Chared the message with
[00:32:25] They were accepted of it
[00:32:27] They accepted the message
[00:32:29] So during the outreach
[00:32:31] They think it's just more so
[00:32:33] They're not running they just don't know about it
[00:32:37] So walk us through your creative process
[00:32:39] Before I get you out of here
[00:32:41] Because I gotta know
[00:32:43] Because listen you're
[00:32:45] You know a lot of you played a lot of instruments
[00:32:47] Of course now you do production
[00:32:49] So you in the 808s
[00:32:51] You in the melodic sounds
[00:32:53] What's your creative process when you go in the studio
[00:32:55] To make a track like are you one that has to
[00:32:57] Are you laying your track down first
[00:32:59] Or do you because you're an artist
[00:33:01] Do you start rapping it first
[00:33:03] You looking for the hook you looking for
[00:33:05] You know I'm saying somebody to be featured on it
[00:33:07] Walk us through your creative process
[00:33:09] For putting together a complete track
[00:33:11] Well
[00:33:13] You know in tune with the spirit
[00:33:15] Gotta be a whole spirit speak to me about something
[00:33:17] I can go sit down
[00:33:19] Play with music and won't come up with anything
[00:33:21] But when I do come up with something
[00:33:23] I automatically just hear it
[00:33:25] And I start playing around with it like okay
[00:33:27] I like this and I take this out and I put this in
[00:33:29] Take this sound out and I put this sound
[00:33:31] And I play with it
[00:33:33] I lay down the sound first to beat
[00:33:35] But as far as writing
[00:33:37] It's gotta make sense and it has to have
[00:33:39] Some essence of the Bible in it
[00:33:41] So I don't lead anybody astray
[00:33:43] And mostly when I get
[00:33:45] Through and I and I and I be a God
[00:33:47] About Holy Spirit the spirit guys depend
[00:33:49] And I just put that lyrical behind it
[00:33:51] And if it sounds like
[00:33:53] It don't sound like it's making any sense to me
[00:33:55] I take it out and I just
[00:33:57] Keep running with it I just keep running with it
[00:33:59] And I just make sure that everything that I do
[00:34:01] That has anything to do with music
[00:34:03] Is Holy Spirit guided
[00:34:05] And then at the end of it
[00:34:07] I got everything where I think I needed to be
[00:34:09] And I just like to say hey do you like this
[00:34:11] And she either give me the thumbs up
[00:34:13] Smart man
[00:34:15] And I give you the thumbs down
[00:34:17] Sometimes I don't like it
[00:34:19] But sometimes I always take
[00:34:21] Criticism very well and I sit back
[00:34:23] And I analyze
[00:34:25] What I'm writing and when it sounds like
[00:34:27] It's a dope verse or it sound like it's a dope song
[00:34:29] I get the green like to go
[00:34:31] And then
[00:34:33] I just make sure that it's everything
[00:34:35] That's sending I don't want to meet
[00:34:37] The audience with anything
[00:34:39] That's good man
[00:34:41] Thanks for sharing that man
[00:34:43] Shout out to all the kingdom wives
[00:34:45] Who hold us accountable and keep it a buck
[00:34:47] When they tell us what we don't want to hear sometimes
[00:34:49] It is
[00:34:51] Come on Bo60 man
[00:34:53] Come on talk about it man
[00:34:55] What made you want to start
[00:34:57] Your own label man
[00:34:59] You got to run my race entertainment
[00:35:01] Just talk about that
[00:35:03] And then let's talk a little bit about this EP
[00:35:05] But first talk about the label
[00:35:07] Well the label came about
[00:35:09] As a direct result
[00:35:11] Of I didn't actually
[00:35:13] Want to be signed to a label
[00:35:15] One of the majors
[00:35:17] Or an audition
[00:35:19] For it I wanted to come out
[00:35:21] I wanted to have the power to do the type of music that I wanted to
[00:35:23] To put out
[00:35:25] Without basically without interference
[00:35:27] You know necessarily from a label they made
[00:35:29] You know
[00:35:31] They made me to put out a whole EP
[00:35:33] Of lift my
[00:35:35] A lift his name
[00:35:37] And that's not what the spirit led me to do
[00:35:39] So I wanted to have the freedom to put out
[00:35:41] What I was led
[00:35:43] What I feel the spirit leading me to put out
[00:35:45] That's kind of been my vision
[00:35:47] So I said you know the best way to do that
[00:35:49] Is to have my own
[00:35:51] Creative control myself
[00:35:53] And put what the spirit has led me to put out
[00:35:55] I don't want to worry about answering
[00:35:57] Somebody or somebody
[00:35:59] No that's not going to be
[00:36:01] That's not going to be an effect
[00:36:03] That's not going to make us any money
[00:36:05] I don't want anybody to have that
[00:36:07] You know not necessarily
[00:36:09] I don't necessarily know what all entails with
[00:36:11] The major labels but
[00:36:13] You know I'm sure there's some creative control there
[00:36:15] So I wanted to have that
[00:36:17] That was my thing
[00:36:19] The half control of whatever I decided
[00:36:21] To put out
[00:36:23] Yeah nothing wrong with that and absolutely you need
[00:36:25] It's two sides to it
[00:36:27] I understand that we are doing
[00:36:29] Safe based Christian music
[00:36:31] Gospel music
[00:36:33] We would be amongst all those genres
[00:36:35] But yeah the fact is
[00:36:37] Absolutely there's a ministry part of it
[00:36:39] And there's a business aspect of it too as well
[00:36:41] So I agree sometimes
[00:36:43] You don't come to a business agreement
[00:36:45] You know if you don't think it's the right deal
[00:36:47] For you you got to do what works best for you
[00:36:49] So I'm not mad at you for doing that
[00:36:51] Wise man so come on
[00:36:53] Talk about this EP man
[00:36:55] You got a couple of your super friends already on it
[00:36:57] Anybody else we can expect on this
[00:36:59] Normal games EP
[00:37:01] Outside of Chaz and Goodie
[00:37:03] Yes it's going to be other singers on there
[00:37:05] We're lining things up now
[00:37:07] I've got songs we started on
[00:37:09] We're not that far from being finished
[00:37:11] But yeah we have
[00:37:13] We have some other surprises on here
[00:37:15] We're definitely looking forward to
[00:37:17] Having said a date yet on when it's coming out
[00:37:19] But I promise you it's coming out
[00:37:21] Sometime before, definitely before 2024
[00:37:23] It's over with
[00:37:25] When it's all said and done
[00:37:27] What's that one thing you want
[00:37:29] People to take away from this EP
[00:37:31] Listen
[00:37:33] When it's all said and done
[00:37:35] I want you to
[00:37:37] Listen to the spirit of the Lord
[00:37:39] Wherever he leads you and follow that vision
[00:37:41] Whatever it is even
[00:37:43] It doesn't matter how old you are
[00:37:45] How young you are, what color
[00:37:47] What gender
[00:37:49] If God is calling you
[00:37:51] By all means please
[00:37:53] That vision that he's laid before you
[00:37:55] That's good
[00:37:59] Listen I appreciate your time
[00:38:01] Shout out to you Moe
[00:38:03] As well as Chaz and Goodie

[00:39:15] It's official Moe 60 Music
[00:39:17] And on the website
[00:39:19] You know the fix is in
[00:39:21] Chaz out to our sister Toya Love
[00:39:23] She got a little confidence
[00:39:25] Little pack out here in these streets
[00:39:27] Undiced with her in the saga
[00:39:29] Listen she got the world
[00:39:31] By the neck right now
[00:39:35] I'm so glad I'm on her team
[00:39:37] Is all I gotta say bro
[00:39:39] We got a viral song coming out
[00:39:41] We got a song coming out with
[00:39:43] Wengie Danger
[00:39:45] And Toya
[00:39:47] I'm just dropping focus didn't even know
[00:39:49] I'm just
[00:39:51] I am trying to be on her team right now
[00:39:53] So that confidence pack
[00:39:55] What does it say? Sped up slow down
[00:39:57] How many different versions?
[00:39:59] Three versions, regular versions
[00:40:01] Sped up in the remix
[00:40:03] So she may be
[00:40:05] The number one female artist with the most
[00:40:07] Viral songs this year
[00:40:10] I don't know if y'all been on tiktok
[00:40:14] But she owns tiktok right now
[00:40:16] So if you go over there
[00:40:18] And you don't learn
[00:40:20] Her audience is fateful focus
[00:40:22] She's in her bag
[00:40:24] I don't know if she means to be in there
[00:40:26] But if you're looking for her and she has not answered her phone
[00:40:28] She's in her bag
[00:40:30] Yeah she's working
[00:40:32] She's working
[00:40:34] And shout out definitely
[00:40:36] Artist that's something you need to do
[00:40:38] You gotta put the work here
[00:40:40] I know a lot of people
[00:40:42] Asked us to as well
[00:40:44] As y'all always see
[00:40:46] Always working
[00:40:48] We hardly ever sit down
[00:40:50] Over here on the fixie the wheel
[00:40:52] So yeah if you don't put the work in
[00:40:54] I promise you
[00:40:56] Put into it
[00:40:58] No result at all
[00:41:00] She works on a different level
[00:41:02] I mean
[00:41:04] I think
[00:41:06] She works works
[00:41:08] And works works
[00:41:10] So
[00:41:12] I don't know
[00:41:14] I think she works
[00:41:16] At the hospital and she works
[00:41:18] And she does her basketball thing
[00:41:20] So it's like she works
[00:41:22] She's married
[00:41:24] I think she's got a kid or two
[00:41:26] I can't remember but
[00:41:28] She works in the community
[00:41:30] And she works in the chh community
[00:41:32] And she travels
[00:41:34] She's been touring with winji since
[00:41:36] We were at king of choice awards
[00:41:38] Remember last year
[00:41:40] They've been going everywhere
[00:41:42] They've been doing shows non-stop
[00:41:44] And if anybody
[00:41:46] Know winji, winji don't stop
[00:41:48] There's no off button to winji
[00:41:50] That's my brother and I love him
[00:41:52] But when I say
[00:41:54] If you say winji I want to work
[00:41:56] He holds you to that
[00:41:58] That man will press you
[00:42:00] And so he doesn't have an off
[00:42:02] There's no off
[00:42:04] And I love that about him
[00:42:06] Like I said I just made a post about them
[00:42:08] A couple days ago
[00:42:10] We were at the same level
[00:42:12] And so when you find people that work
[00:42:14] Like you, it's like oh yeah let's get this
[00:42:16] Work in
[00:42:20] Let's get the work in
[00:42:22] But I'm super proud of her
[00:42:24] I'm super proud of all things atlanta
[00:42:26] And I'm super proud of
[00:42:28] Just the woman she is in the game
[00:42:30] Maybe one day we can talk about it on the show
[00:42:32] Because we bring the artists on here
[00:42:34] We talk to them but
[00:42:36] The ladies
[00:42:38] And focus you know we got other duties
[00:42:40] We're married
[00:42:42] It's different
[00:42:44] Like you can grind away you grind
[00:42:46] But ladies when we grind grind
[00:42:48] We need y'all to put some respect on our name
[00:42:50] Because we're pushing past barriers
[00:42:52] To grind you know
[00:42:54] So that's real
[00:42:56] She's a superstar
[00:42:58] It's been a while since we interviewed with her
[00:43:00] We got to get her back on
[00:43:02] Let's get her on
[00:43:04] Talk about the day and know she got going on
[00:43:06] She going to the moon
[00:43:08] Listen coming up we got a real talk conversation
[00:43:10] No no no
[00:43:12] She's doing a lot of good things
[00:43:14] So I definitely want to talk with her
[00:43:16] To your point she is a
[00:43:18] Mover and shaker
[00:43:20] She's definitely in the community
[00:43:22] She's shaking things up
[00:43:24] And yes she is definitely making a lot of good music
[00:43:26] So shout out to all the artists
[00:43:28] To realize listen you gotta work
[00:43:30] You gotta put that work in
[00:43:32] And it needs to sound good too as well
[00:43:34] Shout out to
[00:43:36] We're not gonna rock with it
[00:43:38] We're not gonna rock with it over here on the fix
[00:43:40] So y'all can say what y'all wanna say about this
[00:43:42] But yeah we don't get down like that
[00:43:44] Let me throw one more thing out there for the honesty
[00:43:46] So
[00:43:48] We have this one song
[00:43:50] And I pitched her
[00:43:52] An idea
[00:43:54] And I think I might've given her a hook of the words or whatever
[00:43:56] But she was like
[00:43:58] I really think if we did it like
[00:44:00] This is gonna be
[00:44:02] Boop de boop
[00:44:04] She's a real one
[00:44:06] And I'll be honest with you cause a lot of people won't
[00:44:08] They'll just go with your idea
[00:44:10] Because you gave them the idea
[00:44:12] But she was like
[00:44:14] Take a look at how this could be different
[00:44:16] And how it could be better and how it could go here
[00:44:18] Versus there
[00:44:20] And so that's why I'm saying I'm giving her extra props today
[00:44:22] Because that's what you need
[00:44:24] When you're an artist
[00:44:26] And you know focus as a DJ
[00:44:28] Before these people send us their music
[00:44:30] We know if they sent it to anybody else first
[00:44:32] Because we hear it and we're like
[00:44:34] You should have shopped that to
[00:44:36] You should at least let a few other people hear that
[00:44:38] Before you sent it to me
[00:44:40] Because they would've told you what you needed to fix
[00:44:42] You know
[00:44:44] And so I'm really
[00:44:46] Yeah, so she's one of them
[00:44:48] Like you're gonna send it to her
[00:44:50] But she's gonna tell you like
[00:44:52] We gotta change this because
[00:44:54] In one her name is attached to it
[00:44:56] I know that's why she does it
[00:44:58] But two I know she loves the Lord
[00:45:00] And she does not do blah blah blah blah
[00:45:02] And so I love that part of her
[00:45:04] Where you know she's loving enough
[00:45:06] To roll with you but she also gonna let you know
[00:45:08] This is where we could be better
[00:45:10] So yeah
[00:45:12] It's a new year, new year
[00:45:14] Let's get better, let's keep getting better
[00:45:16] It's time for our real talk
[00:45:18] Conversation
[00:45:20] And guys we couldn't let this month go by without
[00:45:22] Highlighting some movers and shakers
[00:45:24] Some important people who have been doing
[00:45:26] Some things for our culture
[00:45:28] For our community
[00:45:30] Absolutely
[00:45:32] I feel a certain way I told you that
[00:45:34] That we only get to celebrate Black History Month
[00:45:36] In February
[00:45:38] But I feel like
[00:45:40] Needless to say
[00:45:42] We definitely want to talk about some movers and shakers
[00:45:44] And this young lady came to my mind
[00:45:46] Samara Joy
[00:45:48] She is a professional
[00:45:50] Jazz musician
[00:45:52] Grammy award-winning jazz musician
[00:45:54] And I just think she's done
[00:45:56] A lot and she's had to overcome a lot
[00:45:58] At an early, early age
[00:46:00] And it just shows
[00:46:02] We talk about it all the time, Dice
[00:46:04] On listen just staying the course
[00:46:06] And just trusting in God
[00:46:08] She is a believer too as well
[00:46:10] So Sassata anytime we can
[00:46:12] Highlight somebody who does believe in the same faith
[00:46:14] We believe in
[00:46:16] I think it's amazing so
[00:46:18] Yeah we know again she just won the Grammy award
[00:46:20] For best
[00:46:22] Jazz vocal
[00:46:24] From the year
[00:46:26] Literally a couple weeks ago
[00:46:28] We had the
[00:46:30] Grammys a couple weeks ago
[00:46:32] So that's fresh
[00:46:34] And she actually won it from her second album
[00:46:36] Linger Away
[00:46:38] Just at 23 years old
[00:46:40] Winning the Grammy Dice
[00:46:42] What's your thoughts on that
[00:46:44] As a musician you do music
[00:46:46] You do a lot of things
[00:46:48] Where would your headspace be at
[00:46:50] 23 years old
[00:46:52] Winning the Grammy being up there on that stage
[00:46:54] Accepting that Grammy
[00:46:56] She did just turn
[00:46:58] 24 November too by the way
[00:47:00] Oh okay this is her 24 sorry
[00:47:02] But even so
[00:47:04] If I win a Grammy at 23
[00:47:06] Then I want like 6 more
[00:47:08] When I'm 24 you know this is going to be
[00:47:10] The problem for the world
[00:47:12] Because my bar is set high
[00:47:14] If I'm young 20 and I can win one
[00:47:16] Can you
[00:47:18] Now I'm on a whole other level
[00:47:20] Bronx, New York, born, jazz, soul, R.A.B.
[00:47:22] And gospel artist by the way
[00:47:24] So
[00:47:26] She's just dope
[00:47:28] I don't even know
[00:47:30] I think her grandfather was into music
[00:47:32] I know he was on
[00:47:34] BET Sunday's Best
[00:47:36] And things like that
[00:47:38] As a vocalist and a bass player
[00:47:40] So music just runs in her family
[00:47:42] And she went to
[00:47:44] Fordham High School
[00:47:46] For the Arts
[00:47:48] Jazz definitely since those last
[00:47:50] 4 years of high school
[00:47:52] And then she went to school
[00:47:54] For jazz at Sunny's Purchase College
[00:47:56] As a voice major
[00:47:58] So
[00:48:00] You wonder why she was named
[00:48:02] Ella Fitzgerald Scholar of the Year
[00:48:04] I mean this is what she's been putting in that work
[00:48:06] So I love women
[00:48:08] Who are doing things
[00:48:10] At a high level
[00:48:12] And not making excuses
[00:48:14] And carving out space and time
[00:48:16] To make their mark
[00:48:18] So she has millions of followers
[00:48:20] Everywhere, Instagram
[00:48:22] TikTok, you name it
[00:48:24] She tours in Europe, Italy, Austria
[00:48:26] I mean
[00:48:28] Just, she's not playing with her life
[00:48:30] And this lady is a great example
[00:48:32] Of what it means to take what God
[00:48:34] Has given you and run
[00:48:36] And just run
[00:48:38] So God only knows what she'll do this year
[00:48:40] Like I said
[00:48:42] Winning a Grammy at 23
[00:48:44] I ain't no telling where she's about to do it
[00:48:46] 24
[00:48:48] No telling
[00:48:50] Yeah
[00:48:52] Forgive me, she has two
[00:48:54] She has two Grammys
[00:48:56] At 24 years old
[00:48:58] Like let's be very clear
[00:49:00] That's huge
[00:49:02] That's what I said, yeah
[00:49:04] I'm about to shut this down
[00:49:06] I mean, good grief
[00:49:08] Honestly if I would have known who I was at 22
[00:49:10] Oh boy
[00:49:13] Yeah
[00:49:15] The world would be very different right now
[00:49:17] But I'm just happy for her honestly
[00:49:19] I'm happy that it worked out for her
[00:49:21] Some people actually take this path and it doesn't really work
[00:49:23] For some reason, but I mean like
[00:49:25] Taking a musical path
[00:49:27] I think sometimes it's looked at as
[00:49:29] How you gonna pay your bills
[00:49:31] Now it's like she will forever pay her bills
[00:49:35] Those bills would be paid
[00:49:37] From residual albums that she's put out
[00:49:39] You know, so I mean
[00:49:41] She has four projects released
[00:49:43] So
[00:49:45] Yeah, and many many other features
[00:49:47] And like I said she's touring
[00:49:49] All by herself
[00:49:51] She don't need nobody, I'm gonna sit up here
[00:49:53] I'm gonna sing and play
[00:49:55] Yeah, it's nothing wrong with that
[00:49:57] And let's be very clear
[00:49:59] Being as young as she is
[00:50:01] Especially in the jazz genre
[00:50:03] I think that's like
[00:50:05] This is a success story
[00:50:07] For a jazz musician being this young
[00:50:09] And a lady, let's be very clear
[00:50:11] You know we're not gonna downplay that
[00:50:13] I'm excited
[00:50:15] Like you said to see where she's going to go
[00:50:17] And I'm hoping she does
[00:50:19] Some more faith based
[00:50:21] Whether it be jazz or singing
[00:50:25] I would definitely love to hear
[00:50:27] A full project
[00:50:29] I have not heard a full project
[00:50:31] Everything I've listened to her currently has been
[00:50:33] On the jazz side
[00:50:35] But if she does like a gospel project
[00:50:37] I'm with
[00:50:39] Shout out to our sister
[00:50:41] Mahogany
[00:50:43] Mahogany too
[00:50:45] Victory Boy though too
[00:50:47] Victory Boy
[00:50:49] Yeah that'd be crazy
[00:50:51] You don't have a lot of
[00:50:53] Black
[00:50:55] Jazz artists
[00:50:57] I don't know
[00:50:59] You may have them
[00:51:01] Where okay yeah I'm in your city
[00:51:03] And you know I'm gonna be at the local
[00:51:05] You know whatever the bar is or the club
[00:51:07] But I mean winning Grammys
[00:51:09] In their 20s no
[00:51:11] I mean we have
[00:51:13] Our classics and honestly we probably only
[00:51:15] Have a hundred black
[00:51:17] Popular jazz musicians
[00:51:19] Obviously Louis Armstrong
[00:51:21] Ella Fitzgerald John Coltrane
[00:51:23] Billie Holiday Miles Davis
[00:51:25] The names you know Sarah Vaughan
[00:51:27] You know like it just
[00:51:29] You have your classics
[00:51:31] That just are gonna be there
[00:51:33] You know like but it's rare that you just
[00:51:35] Are gonna get you
[00:51:37] Just somebody that's got that heat
[00:51:39] And the name just sticks and everybody knows
[00:51:41] Like maybe a Georgia Benson or a Herbie Hancock
[00:51:43] Maybe it would be an earlier name
[00:51:45] Definitely Ray Charles
[00:51:47] But yeah so
[00:51:49] I think she's going down in history
[00:51:51] Listen all them greats
[00:51:53] I remember them Coltrane albums
[00:51:55] My grandmama used to have
[00:51:57] My grandmama used to have Coltrane
[00:51:59] Listen my grandmama used to be real particular too
[00:52:01] When Sean saw to you now
[00:52:03] I know you look at the album
[00:52:05] Listen me and my cousins could not touch her album collection
[00:52:07] It was
[00:52:09] Don't touch mine
[00:52:11] I got records upstairs
[00:52:13] Don't touch mine if y'all come to my house
[00:52:15] Please don't and I have them all
[00:52:17] They're all scanned in I have an app
[00:52:19] And it tells you exactly what that record is worth
[00:52:21] I lost
[00:52:23] Probably about 50 crates of records
[00:52:25] When I moved from Georgia
[00:52:27] To Seattle
[00:52:29] And I have been collecting
[00:52:31] My whole life
[00:52:33] So now we got the little
[00:52:35] Cubbies upstairs with the record player
[00:52:37] And I'm like
[00:52:39] You want your hand
[00:52:41] I cashed mine in
[00:52:43] I didn't think they would ever be worth any money
[00:52:45] I cashed all mine in
[00:52:47] Back in the late 90s
[00:52:49] Maybe 98, 99
[00:52:51] I was like yeah let me just don't get rid of these
[00:52:53] Took it to the record then and cashed them in
[00:52:55] I know they work for a lot of money
[00:52:57] I got some records up there
[00:52:59] They're like $150 for one
[00:53:01] Tomorrow your uncle or granddad
[00:53:03] Somebody got records in the basement
[00:53:05] Hold on to your records
[00:53:07] Period
[00:53:09] They are worth money and they're going to increase in value
[00:53:11] Because people aren't making them anymore
[00:53:13] Yeah
[00:53:17] Shout out to what's-a-m'called-a-wom
[00:53:19] Reach records actually just released
[00:53:21] A collection of
[00:53:23] Yeah, yeah
[00:53:25] Exclusives I know Lecrae, Hovie
[00:53:27] I think 1K few, yep
[00:53:29] Get to the vinyl
[00:53:31] Get to the vinyl
[00:53:33] It's not far fetched that we'll have an interruption
[00:53:35] In our
[00:53:37] On the satellite, you know how your phone will go down
[00:53:39] Or your internet won't start
[00:53:41] And what people aren't thinking
[00:53:43] Is like it won't always be
[00:53:45] You won't always be in an area
[00:53:47] Where you have access to wifi
[00:53:49] That's just even on a regular day
[00:53:51] When you're in the city you already see how that is
[00:53:53] So it's like yeah
[00:53:55] If you know God forbid but one day
[00:53:57] If we don't have access to wifi
[00:53:59] The people that had the records in the books
[00:54:01] Are going to be the ones with the money
[00:54:03] They're going to be the ones that can make the deals
[00:54:05] Because they have the hard copies of
[00:54:07] Of life, you know in history
[00:54:09] So if you got a record
[00:54:11] That's fire hold on to that thing
[00:54:13] Yeah please hold on to that thing
[00:54:15] Listen DJ Focus, Dice Gamble
[00:54:17] We'll listen to a quick break
[00:54:19] We're coming right back with more of this real talk conversation
[00:54:21] We just highlighting some black figures
[00:54:23] We're talking about Samara Joy today
[00:54:25] Keep it locked, you tune into the fix
[00:54:27] And the fix is in
[00:54:29] And we back DJ Focus, Dice Gamble
[00:54:31] Thank you all for tapping back in on this real talk conversation
[00:54:33] We just highlighting some black leaders today
[00:54:35] We know it's still Black History Month
[00:54:37] So we just want to talk about some
[00:54:39] Pioneers and trailblazers in our
[00:54:41] Space
[00:54:43] And we're talking about
[00:54:45] The life of Samara Joy
[00:54:47] And everything she's doing at a real early age
[00:54:49] I know something else we want
[00:54:51] I know I want to highlight Dice
[00:54:53] She has been very vocal
[00:54:55] Going around to different universities
[00:54:57] And advocating for
[00:54:59] Music education
[00:55:01] To be a priority in a lot of universities
[00:55:03] And um
[00:55:05] Yeah I don't, I can't remember the last musician
[00:55:07] I know they did it, I mean I'm not saying she's the only one
[00:55:09] To do it but just again
[00:55:11] Her being so young saying you know what
[00:55:13] This is what helped me
[00:55:15] This is not only a career for me
[00:55:17] But she speaks to it as its therapy
[00:55:19] As how it helps
[00:55:21] Really like creatives do something creative
[00:55:23] So yeah her just going around
[00:55:25] And saying you know what, listen
[00:55:27] Let's take music education
[00:55:29] Seriously for the universities that offer
[00:55:31] These programs
[00:55:33] And let's make sure we upgrade them
[00:55:35] That was the other thing she said to as well
[00:55:37] You know what and I gotta be real with you
[00:55:39] I know this was something that wasn't invested that much
[00:55:41] In my high school
[00:55:43] I mean we had a band
[00:55:45] But yeah we always saw
[00:55:47] Playing the playoffs
[00:55:49] And we saw other schools
[00:55:51] How kind of some of the equipment
[00:55:53] And some of the instruments that
[00:55:55] Our band had compared to other schools
[00:55:57] It was kind of like
[00:55:59] You know or outdated so
[00:56:01] I do agree with her was saying you know
[00:56:03] You absolutely take it seriously
[00:56:05] Make sure you're not just investing
[00:56:07] Into the sports programs
[00:56:09] But also invest into something like this
[00:56:11] For the musicians that you know start off in
[00:56:13] High school and even in
[00:56:15] The things that you know
[00:56:17] You know that everyone in the community
[00:56:19] Was well cause yes
[00:56:21] Listen everybody doesn't have
[00:56:23] Shout out to Ohio State
[00:56:25] I know we have a great marching band
[00:56:27] At Ohio State
[00:56:29] And they have over 200 people
[00:56:31] In that band literally
[00:56:33] Well over 200 people
[00:56:35] But I know that's not everybody's
[00:56:37] You know what I'm saying
[00:56:39] Situation you know so
[00:56:41] I can just imagine absolutely
[00:56:43] Did you grow up? Did you did you play any instruments like I know you play the guitar and what what instruments do you play?
[00:56:50] Piano I played a third bass in the band played all percussion instruments everything from the chimes to the bells
[00:56:57] I mean I grew up in a musical household though, so you know trying to lean into a guitar or whatever
[00:57:04] It was nothing to me, but to your point everybody doesn't grow up that way so
[00:57:09] But as far as expression and inclusivity
[00:57:15] I believe that's how you say that
[00:57:17] Like having a good music program is super important. I've always took music
[00:57:23] It didn't matter where I went. I was like, I need to be in music class, you know and
[00:57:27] Yeah that in sports, but I mean
[00:57:31] Instruments can kind of save people's lives man get them off the streets
[00:57:34] Especially when you have a school that's heavily involved in being a part of the community
[00:57:39] You know and of course when you got track football, you know, it keeps you there
[00:57:44] Even if you ain't running, you know, you got to play so
[00:57:48] It's important for kids to have community and have a sense of I belong here
[00:57:53] Like even if they're just playing that little triangle thing, you know saying like hey
[00:57:58] You know you were part of this so
[00:58:00] But I definitely agree with her like and music is I
[00:58:06] Shout out to the melanated y'all just I mean, it's a lot of people good at it
[00:58:10] but y'all real real good at it and a lot of times we don't get the recognition because I think it's
[00:58:17] It's considered like a poor man sport, you know
[00:58:21] So wow
[00:58:23] Yeah, I mean where everybody knows it is it's hard. It's hard to make money being a musician even now
[00:58:29] Even now like it just hasn't changed. I think because we're I
[00:58:35] Don't want to be negative, but I just think a lot of times because here's okay. Let me liken it to this
[00:58:40] For some reason in America every time somebody who was not black needs a black person. They think they can sing
[00:58:47] You know I'm saying like it's just this idea like that's just what y'all do
[00:58:51] You know, I mean so it's not necessarily appreciated as much, you know and
[00:58:56] If you black black, you know what I'm talking about somebody always think you got a musical talent
[00:58:59] All black people can dance like I know all black people don't have rhythm. So I'm just
[00:59:04] Won't just stop thinking this like we we got what we got soul
[00:59:08] You know I'm saying but they don't mean everybody is like musically inclined
[00:59:11] But I think because we've always had to be on the stage entertaining the masses
[00:59:15] Everybody just thinks we're all really good at it and that's just you know
[00:59:20] It's just a part of who we are, but I'm like it ain't just a part of who we are
[00:59:24] So I just I just don't think it's appreciated enough, you know
[00:59:26] And definitely we don't get paid enough or we don't get paid as much as the other people who do things like that's a fact
[00:59:33] I mean we got to put no race on that awesome fact
[00:59:36] We just don't so that's what I'm saying. So for somebody who's great in doing great things
[00:59:41] Especially a female who's black in her 20s
[00:59:45] She's an anomaly
[00:59:47] She's an anomaly
[00:59:50] She's having a huge influence to as well
[00:59:53] I'm glad you brought up the global impact that she's she she's not just here. She's everywhere
[00:59:59] Overseas everywhere so again
[01:00:02] Just being able to have the impact globally and doing it in this genre of jazz
[01:00:08] Listen shout out to her and I love her community engagement. I was on our social media page
[01:00:14] She is very much involved in a lot of community events
[01:00:18] She's not one of those ones who you know, I'm just me now sometimes, you know
[01:00:21] You have the famous, you know musicians and you can only see them at the concerts or something
[01:00:26] Oh no, she pulls up to different events in the community. She still goes back to her local high school
[01:00:33] What she graduated from it goes to like regular sports events and everything dice
[01:00:38] So she's like no, no, I still want to pay homage to my roots and where I came up at from so that shows humility
[01:00:45] There's a lot of a lot of artists are not doing that that shows humility
[01:00:49] Especially in that space. So that just shows that you know, she is trying to represent God to the best of her ability
[01:00:55] So that that is impactful to as well
[01:00:59] I
[01:01:00] Think the last tip I mean a thing I had written down on her was just
[01:01:05] When you talk about legacy building when you talk about the influence she's had with again one of these two Grammys and being a
[01:01:12] trailblazer
[01:01:15] Always think of you know, that's a that's a yes
[01:01:18] And I'm pretty sure everybody does especially if you understand legacy and you understand
[01:01:22] You want to leave some type of stamp or not only family but just everybody, you know, you've been
[01:01:30] Working with you know doing things with
[01:01:33] Community involvement you want to leave some type of legacy before you go to have it and that's something that she's been vocal about
[01:01:40] Shout out to her parents who as well. I don't know if you saw that but her parents are very much a cornerstone
[01:01:46] Shout out to everybody who still believes that yes, it is important to have two parents in the household
[01:01:51] I think it just this shows it too as well because they have been very vocal and very
[01:01:56] Um
[01:01:57] Acknowledging all the everything she's done and proud of everything she's done and not try to at least
[01:02:03] From what I saw you have a lot of parents that try to make the decisions for the young adult instead of letting the young adult
[01:02:10] Make the decisions for themselves and just kind of be there to give the wisdom
[01:02:14] That just speaks to a lot to the legacy too as well. So yeah, just wanted to shout out this young lady today
[01:02:21] and her impact on the culture and
[01:02:24] Shouts out to everybody who maybe does not listen to jazz. I know we come on we hip hop over here
[01:02:29] But it's okay to get some other music in your palate jazz is really
[01:02:35] Meditation music to me. I look out when I listen to jazz
[01:02:38] I really getting another space of just reflecting of just being grateful
[01:02:43] You know a lot of those instruments they especially that the guitar and the saxophone
[01:02:50] Those are two that kind of do it for me like yeah, you're gonna saxophone player
[01:02:55] I just be sitting there just blown away sometimes. So uh, yeah, yeah, so make me want to go play one the dice
[01:03:01] I can't play a lick but
[01:03:07] Jump into it jump on don't miss your don't miss your opportunity focus
[01:03:11] You can put your album out next week and we'll be playing yeah, we'll be playing it
[01:03:16] Might it might not be the best album, but at least you
[01:03:24] That ain't my gift I'm gonna get on these turntables though, let's be very clear y'all about to see a DJ focus back in
[01:03:30] Mixes so yeah, yeah, we don't get back to what we know we can get back in rhythm on
[01:03:36] Yeah
[01:03:39] All right, that's it for our real real listen. We got to go to a break. We coming back
[01:03:42] Don't touch that dial you tune into the fix
[01:03:45] Shout-out to a god over money
[01:03:48] That's the team right there. That was a throwback
[01:03:50] Hadn't played that one in a while. So I just wanted to dig in the crates
[01:03:54] They listen listen, I know, uh, you know
[01:03:57] a Audi anomaly is no longer with God over money and say lie
[01:04:01] but I just in general they had a great run like that that team of say lot of corner dating a
[01:04:08] out of nominally and
[01:04:11] Bumps and a busy like
[01:04:14] I'll forgive me and Jerry Saunders like yeah, that was that still is gonna go down in chh history as a dream team
[01:04:21] You know so shout out to a busy for listen putting together that team
[01:04:26] And we know everybody is doing some some different things in different spaces from what I understand
[01:04:32] There's no, you know hard feelings or no type of hard malice is just you know
[01:04:35] Absolutely people are just doing some different things
[01:04:37] But I'd never forget that god of a money mixtape man with all in a moment
[01:04:42] Straight fire straight fire
[01:04:44] Yep, it was all we got to get out of here. We got to get out of here dice. Uh, had a great day again
[01:04:49] Definitely, uh, everybody uh celebrating the presence day today with you day off and
[01:04:54] And enjoying it. Um, I know a lot of the the veterans and and uh,
