[00:00:02] We can change like my train's at a reach, this is painted out of this, this is got to be weapons, this is great, this is my plan, this is all. You're on Pastor Phil. Welcome to Church On The Block, real talk about hip hop, that

[00:00:17] church and the streets with my great co-host Pastor Jay and Ruck Boy on Holy Culture Radio, Sears XM, China 154. You are back with us ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls church on the block. That's right, China 144 is XM Holy Culture Radio.

[00:00:36] We are back, man. We are grateful for this 2020-23 year and we've been talking about, you know, a look back on 2023 and at the church, a look back on 2023 at hip hop. Now we are looking back at laughing. Today, man, this show is all about funny crazy silly

[00:00:57] things that happen in church. Now you all know you all got some funny stuff if you have any church and you're trying to be spiritual in the moment and trying to like not laugh at the quiet member or somebody else's situation.

[00:01:10] And you all know you ought to see some Instagram stuff on the ground was ridiculous. We're going to talk about today, man, crazy funny stuff that happened on our own experience, other people's experience and maybe that brings some light to you.

[00:01:22] Maybe we shouldn't always be so strict even when our faith laughed when it is to laugh, you know, laughter is good for the soul and laughing and churches are even more good for

[00:01:33] the soul. So right now man, a great fully honored humble to be here with our great host, man, you know him, you know who that is. Give it up fellas. What's going on?

[00:01:46] It's past the Jay here. You know, I'm saying so glad to be on my boy DJ Ruckus and of course the one in only Doc holiday. You know what? It should be on DJ Ruckus. It's so DJ Ruckus.

[00:02:01] Before we started recording, we'd be cracked for jokes for probably about 30 minutes so we already didn't spirit a laughter. But I got a very funny story that I have wanted to tell you all that wrong about past the field. It didn't have any research but it didn't happen.

[00:02:23] That is funny because it's all this big. There's a passage in the description, man, that is funny in and of itself, right? Some people don't even think about it or look at it or maybe even pass by because you're trying to be super spiritual about Christ in the

[00:02:42] Gardner gets somebody. But in March after 14 man versus 51 and 52, when I read this back in the day, I was like, and nobody ever preached about this every talking about it. But it says,

[00:02:52] and a young man followed him following Christ and nothing with nothing but a linen cloth about his body. They seized him, but he left the linen cloth and ran away naked. That's to me, that's hilarious. Just envisioning that. He just called me randomly. He just like,

[00:03:16] you're supposed to be there to pin in Jesus. You're supposed to be like, don't take my save in my Lord. This man run like streaking back in the day, they had his whole song for streakers, right?

[00:03:26] This man. And then it's written in the text. It's in the Bible that he was naked. Like it's assumed that because it was author and marked the John Mark actually wrote about himself and admitted it,

[00:03:38] right? So like you just opened in yourself up to a ton of stuff. But if you're going to preach on that, that'd be a text right there. You know what? I'm talking about when you get trying to get caught on a devil.

[00:03:51] It's fine. I'm trying to praise the man. Right. Right. Hopefully they would keep an enclos on. I'm not trying to give an object lesson and admit that. Man, let me take this funny story

[00:04:04] and then we're going to go into it. Friend of mine, man, one of my close friends when we first started ministry together, man, Stan Archie, good brother, man. He talked about preaching in the traditional

[00:04:15] Baptist church. He's baptism, self ordained, started a church. This brother, man, at the traditional Baptist church, he was preaching. And you know, in the black church, you can't preach, conclude the sermon without Jesus, without Jesus going to the cross, you know,

[00:04:29] going to the grave and coming up. And so he's preaching the last part of a traditional sermon outchron and the black church. You may have said deep doctrinal theological stuff.

[00:04:39] Nobody said nothing. But when you come to and one day they took my Savior to the cross and he's bringing it down. When you said, and he put him in the grave and they buried him in the grave.

[00:04:49] And he kept hard on that part, right? Hard on that part. And then had a nowhere that the pastor's the pastor, the office, a small church was right next to the pulpit, right? And he's going,

[00:05:02] he's looking to the grave and he walks out from the pulpit to the office and goes in the office. And he took him to the grave and the church was, what, and he's kind of going, I mean,

[00:05:11] and he, oh, no, any, he got a, any guy free and a roba and then the church went up. But it was the whole comic routine of the fact that he is imitating this whole rhythm and, and my

[00:05:23] fact, my, like when he did it, the deacon's all grabbed the door with, you know, grabbing the came up on the stage. The whole theatrical piece of it, man. He, we, he told us to read all the

[00:05:34] time how people just went with that piece, man. And then one more, one more, one more, so we doing the seven last words, man. We all young preachers and this one do have, I thirst.

[00:05:47] He got up there to my peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. And there's another wrong with some funky illustration. But he never got, and he said, you know, when you eat that, some salmon, you don't have no jelly. You gotta get a butter, and then you put just peanut

[00:05:59] by your own breath. And you burst. Yeah, oh, we were, we couldn't, I had, we couldn't eat a poof, we had a quick enough man. I would like, you know, get caught in a top of your mouth.

[00:06:13] Yeah, we look at it. Where are you going? Where are you going, man? Oh my goodness, man. I'm talking about him. We bought him peanut butter jelly sandwiches like, and, and buy a cup every day for a whole week. That's crazy, man. That's crazy. The funny stuff happens

[00:06:33] in our life, and I walk into the Lord and church. We got to take it like what it is, man. We can't just segregate that. That's not funny for you. That's funny. That's hilarious. You know, we've got

[00:06:43] to welcome that laughter, man. It's medicine. And that was it. Yeah, I think laughter is welcome. As long as you make sure that you laugh and with the people, if you're going to crack jokes,

[00:06:53] make sure you crack it with the people you laugh, you'll be crack jokes about otherwise making fun of, you know, sometimes. Sometimes. Yeah, we've been learning relationship. I can text message. I'm a genius. I have been, I was probably like 12 and, you know,

[00:07:24] I don't know why we was at the church, but we used to have the church. I think there was just people up there helping do stuff around the church. And so I'm like somewhere between 10 and 12. And

[00:07:34] in my pastor, he was an older guy, and he was just like, hey, won't you come help me? I got in Stahlley's new lights. And so I was just like, okay, cool. I helped you. And so we go on the

[00:07:46] round, he's he's installed in the lights. And so I tell him I say, you think you should turn off the light switch? And he was just like, no. And so I kept bugging him about it. He got mad at it before

[00:07:59] a second kind of shooting me out. Right? Maybe not there's like, okay, I'm going to let you do what you do be in, right? And so man, let's say I know he up down the ladder and he, he, he, he, he, he,

[00:08:10] he, he, he, he, he, he, he just didn't shot. He started cutting his stuff. Oh, my God. I, you know, for somebody on my A, come over here, you know, I hit the switch. Yeah, I hit the switch, man.

[00:08:28] Oh, my God. You know, we're, we're at, we're at the pistol, but man, he passed me out. He passed me out. He passed me out. That's the guy who got from that. That's why I gave him an extra, an extra 230 in it. But man,

[00:08:46] you know, I'm just like, and at that moment, man, I was just like, and his wife was like, maybe you should have listed the tickets. Oh, man, I'm just sitting there like that. You

[00:09:00] got out because you was yelling at me. I remember do, you know, in church as you are young pastor, the pastor would take out for a month whenever they came and he said, okay,

[00:09:14] you got this Sunday and Bible said, you got Sunday and Wednesday. Oh, that was the time. Young brother was preaching on a Wednesday Bible said. He was giving us the business and going through it.

[00:09:24] I'm, I'm there in the pew and we listen there. But we also kind of like talking, like, okay, I was a good point. We're talking to man, this man said, y'all know how your

[00:09:33] MF because I, the old church, we was talking, we went back, we went back, we went to, then once he said that we looked up, what is he saying? He said, let us pray.

[00:09:47] I'm just shut that Bible. I like the church. We was playing, we was playing, loving. Oh, my goodness. That was hilarious. Man, that was a little... Well, remember just a little issue. You know, this still the time of Zoom meetings,

[00:10:05] you know what I'm saying? And so I was on a clergymean. So it wasn't at church, but it was just a group of clergymean and have a conversation. It was, and these are like pretty big, like well-known

[00:10:16] clergy around city Chicago. And so we have the meeting, you know, and somebody's talking and actually a big man. So Jesse Jackson's a part of the conversation, right? And in the background, are you here, somebody going, well, why don't you just pull up your own patty home?

[00:10:37] And I said, because you can see on the Zoom, which boxes is like, no, I said, please mute your right. You're like, you're like, you're like, if you're okay, bother about patty home, get your own. And this, I like that you can tell the person trying to mute

[00:11:02] what's going on to bother people trying to scroll through. And mission is like, I wish you can get me all the way to mute you. I love all creatures. It's all there. It was hilarious, you know? And I just want to

[00:11:24] read about the serious conversation after that. He's like, we ain't on Zoom no more. We not mean to Zoom. It's from the devil. It's all. That's how we're in super spiritualized. I remember a brother and church man was singing and speaking in some

[00:11:52] man, and he had some kind of loose tool to something in the front of the side. And he was going, and that boy flew out of his mouth. We all walked through that mouth. But he said, hit the poor

[00:12:04] man, he caught that boy, put it right back to the back and we come a win, we come there, we're doing this a beat man. We got it. It was like, we stood up and clap just because he did it so slow.

[00:12:22] It was like, oh my god, yes, boy. Did you see that? Didn't nobody know what the song was? What the sermon was after that. It was like, oh, you see him. Is that for the man?

[00:12:37] That was hilarious, man. I was super hilarious, man. You speak of the teeth, man. I just never grown up with church man. It was a lady who sang all the solos in the gospel

[00:12:48] choir because she was like the solo lady, man. That's so lady. That's so little lady, right? Like she wanted to say everything, but man, she started getting older, man. She had them from teeth in the mouth and on land. She started singing on hard, you know. Oh, Jordan,

[00:13:06] Jordan, Captain Boys and the mouth, put them back in, Jordan's role. I mean, it was like over and over again, spit the teeth up, put your back in, put them back out, put your back in,

[00:13:22] why are you just like disgusting? Like, right, I'm being more booze and that mic out to me. Right, right. Right. That's like man, somebody get to be ready to sing. Right, that's why

[00:13:35] COVID guys started right there. To the masters to keep a teeth in. Right, right. I'm going to kept the mask if she would have had the man at the boys drop down and finish and keep singing.

[00:13:47] Man, I know you hear listening and laughing hopefully with us in the midst of this man. You know, we are saying these things in our experience of years and years of ministry that

[00:14:05] are a real funny in a way to help you laugh and like the, your walk with the Lord away, even encourage you during the season that may be kind of challenging. But also in a way to,

[00:14:18] to not take our face so serious where we can't see things that are funny and not harmfuly funny. You know, somebody who's got a real problem walking and they just fell on the chair. We're not

[00:14:30] trying to like dog them out in that kind of way, but it could be funny. But in the same way, might be laughable. But the intent here is that we want to keep things light, hard in

[00:14:44] our walk with the Lord and be free. Be free in the Lord to laugh at things. You know, you should have a radio show in the station in Chicago. We played a Ricky Smiley

[00:14:57] of phone grant which was hilarious, man. I'm going to real quick the prank he calls somebody. He was at a cemetery and he calls somebody. Is this so similar to, yeah, is your very,

[00:15:06] so, so, so, so, yeah, are y'all cutting the grass right now? Yeah, y'all buried me alive. And he was like, I work at the city. He said, I got a narcolepsy and I work at the, at the

[00:15:16] more in the cemetery and I went to sleep and one of the caskets and they put me in the, I'm in the casket. He said, then he did like the hold on. My grandma's calling and he clicked

[00:15:25] all the way. I was rolling. I got to give him and then he was panicking. You know, I got to stop right now and get what happened was we're going to take back when we come

[00:15:38] right back. You know, it's hers on the block will be right back. Yo, you're listening to church on the block. We'll talk about hip-hop that church in the street. Do not,

[00:15:45] you hear me? Do not touch that dial. Do not touch that knob. Don't unplug the blue too. Stay right here with us. We are back, y'all. We are back. Church on the block. We are grateful that you are

[00:16:11] with us. I hope you got some good laughs in there as we were cracking up ourselves about these crazy stories that happened in church. We got a unique segment now. We're going to toss over past the

[00:16:22] J. Drop in a couple more insightful humorous points about church and ministry with music. Yeah, man. Yeah, a band of musicians in some mousemen and a singer. Man, I know all y'all have been

[00:16:38] to either a funeral or church service where somebody just singing horribly. And why is it at church that the worst somebody's sing the more we want to encourage them to. Let him use you. That's all

[00:16:53] right. That's all right. That's okay, baby. Saying, saying, no, and then the right stop singing. You know what I'm saying? Like we even stopped in church with people who can sing, man, or like

[00:17:04] the other thing is like, I come as like whenever a singer comes up, you know, and they the thing that do feel, they come and they go, y'all pray for me. You need to be in a tacky mouth.

[00:17:17] All right, just they just kill it. I will never say I'll break them. Something going over my voice. Yeah, I'll let man. And I'll just say the song, man. What about when somebody goes, you've been knowing you sing this solo all week practicing.

[00:17:35] And I was saying, I'm going to bring up system here. Me. Me. You put me on the floor. Oh my gosh. Well, you know, we're going to let the lower you. What? I'm ready for this. Let's go. You know, tell me. Oh, come on.

[00:17:56] No, musicians, man. Like people, keep working this like look to my musicians after they are like, we know that you're playing on Sunday and then you're like in the club or Saturday, we get it, gee. Like everybody's surprised.

[00:18:10] Like last night, you was playing, you know, freaking down music in this morning. You playing the shot. No, no, no, no. So you all got to try to mix in. You know, you're freaking music in a bit of a church. You know what I'm saying? So like,

[00:18:27] you know, you know, past the audience was talking music. You know, I've heard it. Talking music, you know, I'm saying, so you just be ready to talk. You want the musicians to play something behind you and you look over there. Right. They playing. He's flat or what?

[00:18:38] Playing. Right. What you doing? I remember one time I was at church. I was at church. I was at church. And the pastor was talking the musician player behind her. He looked over and he was like, all right now. Get out your flesh.

[00:19:02] Get out your flesh. He was the one because the, you know what? You was preaching. And then the pastor, I wasn't, oh, Pastor was just talking. He was just talking. Yeah. You know, with last year the day of the day.

[00:19:17] You know, you know, somebody, the pastor was down. He knew what? In the middle of talking, he talked to us. Yes, we take system Mary for being a part of the church with all right now. The last one.

[00:19:34] And my, the pastor was about to be about to boss the moon. You know, I was taking the pastor back to his days. I was like, oh, snap. Man, man, we think about you know, being young and in church all the youth

[00:19:53] we kind of sat together. And so I remember one time, man, one of my musicians like man, we should write rap lyrics. And I remember all of us were sit together. And I've, you know, you've, you've, you've, the start of trying to sit with us to try to

[00:20:07] control us. Man, we sit over there writing rap just and all types of stuff. And then I wrote a rap. I wrote a rap. Man, I got to talk about I'm writing in the rap. I got I'm in there talking about it. Jackie, lady, all types of stuff.

[00:20:24] I just rap. I'm writing and you know, they cranked up in the corner, right? And stuff I put in there. One more moment we're finding the paper. Oh, I think the paper turns right.

[00:20:38] Oh, no. We're finding the paper because she was an usher. She had to clean up. She called right to me. I noticed your hair right here. What's this? What's this right here? Let's see you. You see, you hear a part? What is this?

[00:20:53] Oh, I just felt the wrong one. I don't see how well. Oh my god, man. Yes, you gotta get up out your flesh. I'm saying about, uh, writing round days right there. Then we get an end. But you did say rock is bad. That's why you did say.

[00:21:20] That way, if I play, I didn't say it. You know, you were talking about how singers people be trying to sing, man. But they, you know the case saying. Yeah. And so, you know, this one's a church man. Right. I mean, I was on the sound team.

[00:21:39] I'm young and I'm on the sound team. And we got a couple people who case in and what I'm just so happy my pastor's daughter who could not sing.

[00:21:49] And she was the lead, the lead, man. And it was like, oh, they were all three or four of us on the sound team. I'm the youngest, right? But we would take turns, man.

[00:22:02] For whatever reason, all of us started pulling her volumes all the way down on Sunday. So you could really hear her. Right. And the guy that was over the sound team, he would get chewed out because I passed it with

[00:22:16] like, I can't hear her. But I can't hear her singing. What is going on with the sound? There we be. We believe in looking. We believe in looking. No, for each other. Like, yeah, I turned it down to this. I EQ this.

[00:22:36] We're a little bit trouble for that. We got a truck. We had a little bit of a truck. It was like, hey, y'all, y'all got a lot of stuff. Y'all got to stop turning the down. Hey, 18, 18. That was a real solo. I like, oh, man, here.

[00:22:52] Right. Right. Right. Sure. She didn't come on with that. That's about it. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. I love my love. I love charging you, man. And I got a friend, man. God, actually, you know, from the south side of Chicago,

[00:23:13] in Goa, comedian made it pretty big now. And in comedy, it's on some TV shows and stuff. But name is Barry Brue. And I love this segment. He does. Yeah, live special. And on the special, he talked about, you know, he grew up in church. He talked about,

[00:23:32] you know, this idea that, you know, the difference between a black, black church or white church or whatever. He plays piano with that because, you know, he grew up in church or whatever. And I love it.

[00:23:43] The special is called, makes you watch it. The special is called Chicago. I'm home. You know what I mean? You can find anywhere on anything. But I want us to hit this little segment. I

[00:23:51] want to show y'all, man. Like, we got to be able to last at the reality of church. Right. We got right. Right. Yeah. You know, that got this clip with Barry Brue. You know, you're going up in church. You, as you can see.

[00:24:14] You get to see different things being a musician because you can think of the black church. You get to go to white church. I got the play for white church. You go to church.

[00:24:24] White church is simple. They Jesus is simple. When the past the bridges were, they caused me so. They corded me real soon. For God's love of world, this the past is mess. That he gave his only be God. It's God. Thank you God. That who's forever believe

[00:24:55] you just have to believe. You're not be hearing. It has ever passed in life. Amen. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you God. And then it's the end of service. It's simple. Black people church different.

[00:25:26] He's been to God. God's only be God's son that who's all ever believe in him. What's all this? God's only for Jesus. Oh, no. Why people like their Jesus is anchored. That's good, man. Oh, wow. That's good. That's good. That's good. That's good. You know. That Jesus. Angry.

[00:26:13] It's so right, though. He's so right about how that is, right? That's a second part. Oh my God. I didn't know he was from Chicago, man. That's the stuff. I've seen him in a lot of videos that get for stuff out. Because he got in county, right? Yeah.

[00:26:35] He's definitely been in the whole crew stupid and stuff like that. Yes. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. He good to make good people, man. Let me come back to the show. You see him in good all the time. I've met him in the first time.

[00:26:48] And my God, Corey got that story. In goodwood branded. You could be all the in goodwood. Yeah. He was in that bias with stuff for them. It was like, man, let's see you before. And then we just got to talk and say, yeah, he could.

[00:26:59] He could people, man. But that, that right there had me crying. Right. When I watched a special, I was going to play in one time. I just watched a special, I'll be like, oh, I don't know. I'm doing a Larry. I remember that right there. I was crying.

[00:27:14] He was like the best. The chords are simple. The message is simple. Right. Right. Nothing. Man, have y'all ever been in a service. So I'm going to talk about one of the guys that come out to her, Steve, Steven. Steven is a guy with special needs.

[00:27:36] But he just cool. He will cool. Been in the community forever. He want to feel his best for his. He's like, what? What? What? You see him dressed. He can look crazy. Hey, dress, but he showed the church faith in us on Sunday. He don't talk about it.

[00:27:54] I like it. Right. He don't care. He's going to talk about it. And when he shake your hand, you got to do all. You got to do 12 like secret handshake with him. Yeah. Right. Fight the bell. Shout out to him of what a big deal.

[00:28:07] Well, boy, he did. He did real quick, though. But he, he's in charge to keep us. Don't give real. Keep us. We're going to be shooting. We're going to love for real. Yeah. So he is. He's sitting. My wife somewhere. I don't know. She goes to him.

[00:28:24] And my boy, big deal. If you ever see big deal, big deal is a tall guy, big guy. That's why he called him big deal. Right? He's noticeable. And big deal is in the choir. And I guess he was leading the song.

[00:28:39] And so my wife tells me, she said, why just hit his dude say, go ahead, big deal. That's my boy. You're bald, he even. He just said that I love. Like, I know he even knows people heard him, but everybody heard him back up. I'm a good guy.

[00:29:02] I think I just cracked up for about a good five minutes. Like, she's like, I'm pretty good. He heard him. He's like, what do you mean? What do you mean? Who just goes, like, let's go. Let's take a look at that. Let's take a look at that.

[00:29:24] Yeah, one time is a young brother. Get married to a young woman at church. And he kind of sang a little bit. I think she sang a little bit too, but like at the wedding, the wedding was, where's you mean? Because it was like right after church.

[00:29:41] And I'm not like, we won't stay around and welcome everybody and get, you know, watch him get married after church. And, you know, come to a part all the stuff is going on. And, you know, certain wedding got, you know, little unique things they want to do

[00:29:54] a poem or whatever. And they're going to sing to one another. You know, there's only one microphone. So he grabbed a mic. He started singing his verse. I don't know if they practiced. I don't know if they, if they changed it up in the middle of it.

[00:30:07] But I don't know where she grabbed the mic and his hand. He had the mic. She grabbed his hand. And she started singing a whole work. No, no, no, no, no, no. And then he pulled back. And no, no, no, no, no, no.

[00:30:18] I'm like, oh, it was like, we all said, wait, what? I was going to talk to him all the way across now. Oh, snap, reminded me when we think of, when you think of, the Michael Jackson movie and Barry Gorset, don't let anybody take the microphone from me.

[00:30:34] And like down the rocks, hit the microphone. He grabbed the mic. It was just like that. We're going back and forth. Going back and forth. Yo, I was wrong. If any of you had this little tie, like the tie, it might have been a bow tie.

[00:30:44] The tie was so high up in his tie. And he didn't, let me get that. He's flipping, flipping, flipping, flipping, flipping, flipping, flipping, flipping, flipping, flipping, and flipping. We couldn't stop laughing then. He was like, I got to go. I got to go in the back.

[00:30:59] Man, what a fool. Oh, I'm like, right now, man, right now. And they ain't going back. They've been just like, this is real. This is what he mean. He's going, oh, good. Woo! That was hilarious. They're starting off wrong. They had a versus battle at the left.

[00:31:15] I'm curious about the game. I'm excited. Hey. Man, I remember one time. I'm singing in a quiet. It is a different thing. You know, so many boys praise him with an acquaia voice. So I'm like, I'm a singingist song. Hey, I'm practicing it. They let me go.

[00:31:30] I'm a singing. And it was at the church where I grew up at in Kansas City, James and Timple, CME, Chris and Methods of Piscobu. And Jesse Outberg was a pastor. He's an Elbino dude. Man, had albums. You hear me? He could sing. His sons could sing.

[00:31:46] My mama had the albums. He marched with King. Ever see a march. And a super. Looking like, why guy got these dark glasses on. He was right there with King. That was Jesse Outberg. He was that much in the movement and he's a double barrel preacher, man.

[00:31:59] I could preach his sing. So I'm intimidated already because his son is directing the choir. And I'm practicing. They give me the chance of, you know, singing like they live up. And I'm, until here comes the Sunday. I'm going to be singing. Who I'm going to first verse.

[00:32:11] I'm singing that first verse. I had the little robot. We rock it. We rock it. I forgot the entire second verse. I'm up here. He looking at the choir. Like, looking at me. I'm like, I don't know. He grabbed a mic and it boom hit.

[00:32:25] I moved into the, I moved into the director. I'm now directing the choir. I'm directed. You all know what to do. Keep moving left. Right. I don't know what to do. Don't ask, I'm saying what my left. Don't ask me. That was my head. Don't ask me.

[00:32:37] What we're supposed to do right now. I don't know. He's singing. He's gone. And he kind of going like this. Directed. Yo. And but. Maybe. Maybe nobody knew. But it was a trip. It was a trade trip. It was a trade trip with that man.

[00:32:53] I was all last. Oh, man. My last one for real. My last little real. Yo, church on the block. Man, we're going to be right back with some more funny stuff that happens in real life to believers in church. And on the street.

[00:33:07] Yo, church on the block will be right back. The church in the streets. Holy, culture radio is operated by the corling solution. If I go one seed ministry dedicated to empowering people to reach their potential. If you feel like they contribute to this mission visit www.holyculture.net

[00:33:27] slash donations. You know, we have back church on the block. Man, this is a hilarious show. Now, y'all got to know this. What we do on a regular basis. So in the midst of taking an experiment. And the other way you were experienced it. I'm daily conversation.

[00:33:48] What we're going to have to eat when we're preparing for the show. I'm telling you, I'm telling you we can't get the show going because we laughing at me. Most of my parents would be able to... They'd come up with the nominated.

[00:34:01] No, I'm telling you, you're so quick. That was laughing. Oh, no. Y'all laughing at me too. Oh, yeah. Everybody gets up. Everybody gets up. Right. Yeah. Man, what's on this? One time, this pastor during COVID, whenever I was trying to get the churches in Bible study online,

[00:34:27] and Zoom was kind of fairly new. This pastor teaching the Bible sitting on Wednesday night. He would like to only want really around to set up his whole deal. So he's put it on a few or whatever. And this one of the church where he was telling me.

[00:34:38] And he kept the Zoom thing. But he didn't know he had put a filter on the Zoom. And they are listening to it. Listen to the Bible sitting. And watching him, he had some bunny rabbit ear with the nose and the whole thing.

[00:34:52] And so he's moving as he's in a revelation. And they couldn't have been seriously. And they couldn't get his attention enough because it was on a table and something. So he was away from it. He was in his own. I'm giving him the word. He looked back up.

[00:35:07] If you'd like this, be playing. He looked back up. Oh, bunny rabbit. Ha ha ha. How bunny rabbit? You can want to cross Jefferson. And they look at me. And then they said he had different facial features. Sometimes when you preach, you do so much.

[00:35:22] So that made it even worse. You know what I mean? Because the church and you're with me hurt. Y'all. It is a big bunny rabbit face. On this day comes home. No way. They said that was the most dirty Bible study ever.

[00:35:39] Because then they hit and people up. Y'all go to church tonight. You know what I was saying? You got the Holy Ghost. You got the Holy Ghost. You got the Holy Ghost. Oh, my goodness. I was like, oh my god. What is this about?

[00:35:57] How many people on the street? Oh, I heard it. He loved the word. He loved the word. He never gets you out of the company in the Bible study. Why don't we watch the whole thing all the time? You're already done tonight. No, Pastor. Keep going. Keep going.

[00:36:13] Keep going. Keep going. Keep going. I remember one time I was preaching and I'd always give my suicide thrift shots. This suit I got. It was black. It was not heavy. The yellow. The smell.

[00:36:35] The pants was a little baggy because that was what was up at that time. They bagging a screeching in. I mean, I was given it to him. And I was like, oh my god, I'm not going to bother. And I spray my legs like this.

[00:36:45] That host in the in-seemland. Yep. All the choir around. The choir behind you in. I went right and stood right in front of the poop. It didn't allow us to apart man after after somebody. Whatever we had to do to conclude method of church. You got high closing.

[00:37:01] Whatever. I get right off. I said, I need something. Second service. I came in a row. I had high church with a row. I went to the same baggy. With the same baggy pants on underneath the row. No, no, wait, wait, wait.

[00:37:18] Still in the row is funny enough. You went over there. But knowing that you had some ripped your whole in-seem. So you had to wear a row. Right? You're right. Right. You know, you wear a row and a method of church on a first Sunday.

[00:37:37] It's like a third Sunday. Well, what we about to do now come in. Like this. What you want to do? I don't try to imagine your preachers' style hit a row. Man! Right. Now I got... Don't let me tell you. These cats here. Right. Right.

[00:37:54] I have to come now with more lofty theological references. Now as I'm speaking from the lectern. Oh, man. That was good. No, but... So I got invited to speak at this. It was actually a conference, but it was in like a traditional church.

[00:38:14] I mean, this is like the stages of high. You know what I'm saying? I'm working. Like it's, you know, it's a traditional, you know, whatever. And because I had a church set up, it's not like a whole lot of space on a pool pitch.

[00:38:29] You got the big huge lectern to desk or whatever. And the chairs were like the pastor was sitting or whatever. And then you got like flowers and the speakers and stuff like, like, my mother's or whatever. So I'm just talking and telling my story.

[00:38:42] This is what I'm just about... I think I was... It was one of my book tour. I was just sharing my book and walking and talking. And I'm selling people. I'm like, and you gotta understand. That no matter what you're doing, you gotta trust that guy.

[00:38:54] Has got you guys going to catch you. Got another letter from him. I'll never let you saw. And that's sweet. Right off the front of that stage. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. It's a full, bro. Hit the floor. Like, oh, that stage was like faux feet off.

[00:39:11] Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. And I'm saying it at the same time. Got another letter from him. This is all him. That's what you said. You're famous for, but like, when your focus is over here. You will, never let you fall.

[00:39:24] I wouldn't have to let you. I just failed. I don't do what I did. I don't. People had to be crack at up there. They would die in laughing. So was I because you know I ain't got no sense. I just thought, what's love laughing?

[00:39:41] Let me on the stop. But you, you, you, you lay down on the floor and you keep preaching. And that's why. And that's when it's funny right now. If you do fall, you know, stay down. Stay down.

[00:39:53] I think I said so crazy like, that's why I'm not in the car. Can't control this. We fall now. I know you did. I know you did. I don't want to push back. I know you've finished down with that. It's so bad. It's so bad.

[00:40:08] But then you do better. I won't let the person back on that. I remember you, man. You were cleaning man. When crap had just kind of hit the hood, right? That man said he was preaching. He said, you're up here smoking that smack.

[00:40:30] And somebody in the cry of the crack. And a smack. And a smack. That's right. That's right. And a smack. Oh man. But it was like so timely with black preaching. And we were like, yeah, you know, just jumping into it. You was with him.

[00:40:49] You was in him with it, man. Get it out. I got it. It's not a church one, but it's just kind of church related, right? This is kind of one of those situations when you know it. You're somewhere and getting supposed to be there. And so.

[00:41:04] You got to shut him down. My brother when he was alive that we would go and go to his recording studio. And he told us about this big fast that was going on out in like way out. And it was in and woodstock.

[00:41:16] And it was stocks somewhere out there, right? And so we like, well, go. We didn't have tickets, right? And the fastest call, blood off fast. It's a big festival that goes on. That's like, get some hippie, shriepy types stuff, right?

[00:41:31] So we're going to go to the city here. Well, so he can then consistent with us climbing over a big tall gate that had been at least 7 to 8 feet, right? That's my big self is. Who are my third climbing over this big fence, right?

[00:41:47] We're Bob, why you're never there, right? So we climb over the fence, we get in. We get in, right? So we get in everybody in. Everybody in. Everybody that made it in the snuck in. We all in. We walking around. It's camp for us out over the place.

[00:41:59] People's cars all over the place because they're going to stay the night in this joint, right? So we're just like, okay, this is this is the spot where everybody come. They hang it out. So we like, okay, let's check this out. Let's see what this is like.

[00:42:12] And so you hear in all the music and stuff, and man, we're walking around this joint. And before we knew it, it starts to get dark. And as it gets dark, I saw this dude rode through on a golf cart.

[00:42:23] And then later on, as it got dark, the whole scene just kind of changed. The same dude that was rode around on the golf cart. He'd now rode around on the full fence, full of flesh, bunny outfit, white, bunny outfit. And we do it with the fuck off.

[00:42:40] Oh, fuck off. It's going on. Right? Okay, this is weird. So we walk to the Pima Brother, walk up to the front and we hang in our bad stage. And this white dude's dead and he got his son. Little bit of son.

[00:42:54] His son had to be five years old on the shoulders. And his son looks over and his son. And he goes, oh my God. What are the odds I'd be standing next to two black guys? Right? I feel like the luckiest guy in the world.

[00:43:05] I should go play the lottery. You know, like, yeah, maybe you should go play the lottery. So we need to walk back man. This other white lady runs up to me. She's like, hey, hey, let's see, no me. Me and my brother look at what is going on.

[00:43:21] She's like, she's asking me a second. We just pull her under the wretched, so she's going away. And my brother sees his other white lady. My brother was like, hey, can you tell us how to get to have him?

[00:43:32] She said, baby, if you look at for heaven, you are in the wrong place. That's what my brother was like, let's get up act this job. This ain't the place I want you to be. Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah. I'm trying to subtract him. What the hell?

[00:43:45] What the hell is this? Oh my God. Yes. Ah, ah, ah, ah. Man, one time I went. One time I was preaching. All white church, southern Illinois or some part, in some rural area. And I had this quote from Elders Cleaver, right? On a black panthers.

[00:44:07] Something you're not a part of a suprima problem. But I'm up here preaching. I'm about to give it to, and this was the time when they had stuff on VCRRs. They recorded the sermon on a VCRR. Man, I get up there. I'm preaching.

[00:44:21] I'm like, and as a quote from Elders Cleaver from the KK. It was all white folks. I was just cleaning from a, you know, former leader from the KKK. They was busing out loud. Like, glad they got it and we're laughing about otherwise. We're like, okay.

[00:44:39] We want to hear from them. But they didn't. They think I was like, y'all. But they would laugh and laugh at all. I'm like, cool, cool. Because they are like, it's like, was that like subliminal? Was that something I had upon a neat meeting?

[00:44:53] I just didn't realize how much I was feeling. He's waiting for this church, man. That wasn't that what your germus I was it. It might have been a, might have been a germus I had. Like my mom who's. Process and, well, Process and white cow. Um,

[00:45:17] What's in those? And now that's what somebody was preaching. And this dude was sitting here at a suit of he was Jesus. So I remember the suit was white suit, yeah, blue tie, everything. And he was leaning so far into the aisle.

[00:45:33] I'm talking about, we want to see he was gangsterly like if he could literally fell off the chair. But he was knocked out asleep. I said, baby, we're talking about what we're looking to do right there.

[00:45:43] He wasn't ashamed enough that he and she would laugh at so hard. She had to lean in the church. It was so, I don't know why she said why did you show me that watch it? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It was crazy. Oh, my goodness.

[00:45:58] Dude, it was a good sleep. This bro, this past Sunday we had the same exact experience. We had church and the past, I didn't preach this Sunday when I was a. Possible preach man. He preaching man because he knows he has a different style for me, right?

[00:46:12] Like, you know, I'm a little more Black preach. I get it work. I keep people awake. But he's more of an artist. And like he's a speaker, right? He's a certain theologian and man, I can't really talk about it. I can hear behind me just.

[00:46:27] I do want to talk to the world. I look behind me man and this brother's two rows behind me. I mean calling the hall. People pushing them, no, I don't know what you're doing. So much so another lady to church have to get up from her.

[00:46:41] See, go sit next to him and like keep nudging him. I'm gonna keep my wake the whole Saturday. He was calling the, how you all that, bring him out. We'll get him. I'm just in the pillow. All right. Right. I'm checking out.

[00:46:57] Great to tell you on this story. All right. So if you don't know about it, I love cracking jokes. I love I love breaking people. I like the half fun. And so I'm always miss a little bit. I'm always cracking jokes on each other. He's talking about that.

[00:47:14] You got no neck and I look like a ninja turtle, right? I talk about how Moses parted the rest. He answered that. Right. We go at it. And his wife gave me that if you want to talk about his health. So we have this retreat one day.

[00:47:28] We have to retreat. And it's like early to move and feel come wake me up. Teak in your help me. And I'm thinking of his head. And his hands all over the place. So I just imagine done I can. And he's yeah, just I'm over the place, right?

[00:47:42] Oh, so look at him. I'm like, oh, yeah. I'll help you. I'm like, yes, you're right here at my computer. I grabbed my phone and as I'm getting ready to stop the pitch. He turned around. He's like, oh, are you bogus? I got the photo right.

[00:47:57] So I take the photo. And I write on there. cocaine is a hell of a drug. Right. And every time he stopped me, I'd be like, bro, don't make. Put these pictures out there of who you was on drugs, right?

[00:48:11] So we've got this for us in the years later. He knew I got like pitch. I got a photo of Phil, right? And some, I make this new guy, Vanessa. Vanessa's husband, JB. He's a local police officer in our community.

[00:48:25] Me and him and my wife and his wife. We all decided to hang out. And so in our bundan, I'm like, yeah, you can be filled. And Jay was a man and he was a good man. I'm like, no, you're a little bit of a man.

[00:48:38] Yeah, I don't think he was that day when this happened. Let me fit this down. You can tell me if he was down. Okay. And so we're sitting around at the table and I'm telling him he got a meat field. And he's like, oh, yeah, I met Phil.

[00:48:49] Phil real cool. And I like man. Me and Phil be cracked jokes. So I say, look at this pitch. I show him the pitch. He's like, oh, bro, you got to send that to him. I say, if I sing with his pitch,

[00:48:59] and this is what you got to do. You got the text field until Phil did you got the pitch from like a drug treatment program that you was teaching and it was in your curriculum. Yeah, he takes Phil and Phil. What is this? I got this pitch.

[00:49:15] It's in the curriculum. It's just you, bro. Phil takes me. Tea, the pitch. I don't know why you put the picks at the pitch. I don't know if you got it. I'll switch up with the pitch on me. I'll send that next to him. Me and him.

[00:49:30] I get rolling on the flow. I'll bring text messages from Phil. And he's in effect field text messages from him. We both crack it up. You got to take the pitch. I got tea. We called him. We called him.

[00:49:48] And we just heard of both laugh and the background and why. I was like, oh, I'm like, what y'all together? I've got you back yet for that. I ain't got you back yet. That thing was so good. Come on.

[00:50:03] Yo, the cup got my picture on some kind of thing and he take it down. What's going on? Oh, they got to be good for that man. That is hilarious. Drop in bars. Man, let me drop these bars on your real quick, man.

[00:50:20] As we talk about a human, we talk about laughter and encouragement. Sometimes there's some great, you know, powerful, teachable moments. Like this one situation in the Sunday School, this teaching in the Sunday School class was getting her class to read and memorize Psalm 23.

[00:50:37] The Lord's My Shepherd, I shout out that one. He makes me read. You know, I lay down my signs to your water. All the things that we know that passage is. I think of the kids understand it. So she gave them a month to memorize the verse, right?

[00:50:49] And this Sunday School class and this one little boy, man, Bobby, could not get past like the second line. He could barely get the first line together, right?

[00:50:58] And so they're going to recite this front of the entire church on the day that it was scheduled for the church to hear the kids say out of this, right? Bobby was super nervous.

[00:51:06] He's, you know, on the end he's right there ready to go and then when his his turn to say the verse, you know, he said to the microphone, just like kids would. And he said, the Lord is my shepherd and that's all I need to know.

[00:51:19] You know, let God be your shepherd. Let the funny things of life embrace you as God nudge that he cares for you. He loves you. He wants you not to take everything so seriously in the love of him. You know, Pastor Phil, those are those bars.

[00:51:38] Happy holiday, merry Christmas worship the Lord. Jesus is the reason for the season. I hollow back at you, peace. Church on the block. Thank you for listening to church on the block. Real talk about hip hop, the church and the streets.

[00:51:54] We're back here same time, same day, next week. Come with us.
