[00:02:39] And you he made alive who were dead in trespasses and sins. So I figured since it's like considered the day of the dead, I figured, well, let's talk about something that's dead.

[00:02:52] And let's talk about as believers in Christ, our old selves are now dead. And we are on a new journey to be a new creation. So I wanted to kind of fit in maybe Halloween and death and, you know, everything that our culture brings to this time of year and talk about something that's dead.

[00:03:14] And in the Christ's life, our sins are the Bible promises that our old self is now being put to death.

[00:03:21] We are putting our old self on the cross and putting our faith in Christ and by grace alone, we are saved.

[00:03:28] And so that's kind of the topic we want to talk about tonight. I think it might we might get on some tangents here, but we'll see how that goes.

[00:06:45] I mean, it's not a long chapter by any means.

[00:06:48] Yeah.

[00:06:49] There's a lot in there.

[00:07:06] And it seems like he's really excited to be a part of it and has learned the music currently and really likes it.

[00:07:13] So I hope that works out for him and he sticks around with us and have another potential person who wants to play bass for the band, who I'm going to be meeting with tomorrow.

[00:07:23] And we'll get to know each other more.

[00:07:25] I've only talked to him over the phone and met him once in person about a year ago.

[00:07:29] And so this is how God works.

[00:07:32] He finds me on Instagram or something.

[00:07:34] And I was like, dude, how'd you find me on it?

[00:07:36] He's like, I don't know.

[00:07:36] You were just in my recommended junk.

[00:07:38] And I'm like, that's because you're my phone, dude.

[00:07:40] Or you have my phone number.

[00:07:41] And it's like, you still want to play bass?

[00:07:44] You know, he's like, oh, dude, I would really love to do that.

[00:07:46] So this is like years in the making across the board when it comes to all of our members in the band.

[00:07:52] I'm really, you know, glory to God for that.

[00:07:55] I praise him for all the appointments in the, you know, spiritual realm in the supernatural.

[00:08:02] So really excited to be taking one step forward after one step forward and keep, you know,

[00:08:10] I think we're going to try to get together as soon as a band outside of music, too,

[00:08:15] and just chill and grow in our brotherhood and things like that, too.

[00:08:18] So there's a lot of cool things.

[00:08:20] I mean, that invitation is open for anybody else who might want to get together with some people who are kingdom-minded

[00:08:27] and want to grow in Christ and build relationships also.

[00:08:35] Amen, man.

[00:08:42] We're like, man, for how long has it been where it was just me and Luke,

[00:08:46] and now all of a sudden it just seems like things are moving.

[00:10:21] and at least one or two things a year,

[00:10:25] I'll get, like, pajama pants or something like that,

[00:10:27] or a beanie.

[00:10:28] And, like, you know,

[00:10:30] but as far as Halloween goes up here in the mountains,

[00:10:32] it's kind of hard when you live miles away

[00:10:35] from anybody else to go trick-or-treating

[00:10:37] or anything like that.

[00:10:38] And, you know,

[00:10:41] I hear a lot of Christians

[00:10:43] in today's modern day, too,

[00:10:45] just say they don't celebrate it anymore

[00:10:47] because it has a lot of history behind it as being...

[00:10:52] And I'm willing to overlook some of that,

[00:10:55] even with Christmas.

[00:10:56] You know,

[00:10:56] I just think people do it for different reasons,

[00:10:59] but they don't know what it's rooted in.

[00:11:01] And it's actually, you know,

[00:11:03] All Hallows' Eve on Halloween

[00:11:05] is actually a night that witches

[00:11:06] and warlocks and witchcraft workers

[00:11:10] of evil witch or evil,

[00:11:12] you know, magic.

[00:11:13] They actually use that night

[00:11:14] to perform all their ceremonies

[00:11:17] and sacrifices that they'll do.

[00:11:19] They'll go kidnap homeless people

[00:11:21] sleeping on the streets

[00:11:22] and go do horrible things

[00:11:24] by sacrificing them on that night.

[00:11:26] And it's a big deal for them

[00:11:28] in that community.

[00:11:29] So it's not a safe night,

[00:11:31] you know,

[00:11:31] in certain areas.

[00:11:32] I imagine they do it every single year.

[00:11:35] And so there's a lot of things

[00:11:36] behind that holiday, too.

[00:11:37] But I like the festivity behind it.

[00:11:41] I like the festivity behind Christmas, too.

[00:11:43] But it's just something that's like,

[00:11:46] God never told us to celebrate

[00:11:47] those type of holidays.

[00:11:49] They just kind of came up in tradition

[00:11:50] and, you know,

[00:11:51] don't mess with my traditions,

[00:11:53] you know,

[00:11:54] in the Christian church.

[00:11:55] It's just like,

[00:11:56] we've always done it like this.

[00:11:57] It's like, yeah,

[00:11:58] but the kids will miss out on so much.

[00:12:00] And it's like,

[00:12:02] have you ever looked back

[00:12:04] to trick-or-treating

[00:12:05] and been like,

[00:12:06] that's been the highlight

[00:12:07] of my life as an adult?

[00:12:09] You know,

[00:12:09] like, oh, I'm glad I did that.

[00:12:11] You know,

[00:12:11] I don't know if it was something

[00:12:13] super special at all,

[00:12:15] you know,

[00:12:15] to me at least.

[00:12:16] It might be for some other people.

[00:12:17] But unfortunately,

[00:12:19] that's how I've come to think

[00:12:20] about Christmas, too,

[00:12:21] is that I,

[00:12:23] you know,

[00:12:23] as a kid,

[00:12:24] I had a lot of good experiences

[00:12:25] with it.

[00:12:31] telling me something,

[00:12:32] you know,

[00:12:32] which is just like,

[00:12:33] okay,

[00:12:34] you know?

[00:12:35] So.

[00:12:36] Yeah.

[00:12:37] Yeah,

[00:12:37] it's interesting with,

[00:12:38] like,

[00:12:39] holidays,

[00:12:42] like Halloween

[00:12:43] and Christmas

[00:12:44] that have,

[00:12:45] like,

[00:12:45] you know,

[00:12:45] pagan origins

[00:12:47] and stuff like that.

[00:12:49] I don't know.

[00:12:50] Just one thing that I,

[00:12:51] I think about a lot

[00:12:52] is,

[00:12:55] is,

[00:12:55] you know,

[00:12:56] as,

[00:12:56] as Christians,

[00:12:57] like,

[00:12:57] we can obviously,

[00:12:58] if we're celebrating,

[00:12:59] you know,

[00:13:00] cultural holidays

[00:13:01] like Halloween,

[00:13:02] like,

[00:13:03] you know,

[00:13:03] be aware of

[00:13:05] what you're glorifying

[00:13:06] and be aware

[00:13:07] and be able to discern,

[00:13:09] you know,

[00:13:09] what is glorifying to God

[00:13:10] and what isn't.

[00:13:12] And,

[00:13:13] you know,

[00:13:14] the amazing thing

[00:13:16] that I think of

[00:13:17] with,

[00:13:17] you know,

[00:13:18] with our holidays

[00:13:19] is,

[00:13:19] is,

[00:13:22] there's nothing that,

[00:13:23] there's,

[00:13:24] there's many things

[00:13:25] that start out

[00:13:25] with pagan origins,

[00:13:26] but,

[00:13:27] you know,

[00:13:27] God is able,

[00:13:28] God redeems those things,

[00:13:29] right?

[00:13:30] Like,

[00:13:31] even,

[00:13:31] I was thinking,

[00:13:32] yeah,

[00:13:33] even,

[00:13:34] you know,

[00:13:35] the,

[00:13:36] even like Sunday,

[00:13:37] we called Sunday

[00:13:38] because I was reading

[00:13:39] somewhere that

[00:13:41] it was a day

[00:13:42] to worship the sun,

[00:13:43] wasn't,

[00:13:44] you know,

[00:13:44] and then God,

[00:13:45] you know,

[00:13:45] and now it's like a,

[00:13:46] now it's a day

[00:13:47] where we worship God

[00:13:48] and so it seems like,

[00:13:49] it's like a lot of times

[00:13:51] we see our,

[00:13:52] you know,

[00:13:52] our idols,

[00:13:53] we do things with pagan origins

[00:13:55] and God,

[00:13:57] God redeems it

[00:13:58] just like ourselves,

[00:14:00] our own,

[00:14:01] you know,

[00:14:02] our own bodies.

[00:14:03] You know,

[00:14:03] it's kind of like in this scripture

[00:14:05] we're going to talk about,

[00:14:07] you know,

[00:14:08] and you were dead

[00:14:10] in trespasses and sins

[00:14:11] in which you once walked

[00:14:13] according to the course

[00:14:14] of this world,

[00:14:16] you know,

[00:14:16] we're going to kind of,

[00:14:16] we can kind of,

[00:14:17] we're going to kind of talk about

[00:14:19] how,

[00:14:20] you know,

[00:14:20] before you were saved,

[00:14:22] we were all kind of

[00:14:25] sinful in nature

[00:14:26] and had pagan origins

[00:14:28] and wanted to follow

[00:14:30] all the things of

[00:14:34] the prince of the power

[00:14:35] of the air,

[00:14:36] which is kind of what

[00:14:36] this scripture shares on

[00:14:39] and so,

[00:14:40] I think that's something

[00:14:42] we should remember

[00:14:42] is that,

[00:14:43] yeah,

[00:14:44] things might have

[00:14:45] pagan origins

[00:14:45] like maybe even metal

[00:14:47] or metal music,

[00:14:48] but God can redeem that

[00:14:50] and use it

[00:14:51] for his good

[00:14:52] and for his glory.

[00:14:55] So,

[00:14:55] yeah,

[00:14:56] as Christians,

[00:14:57] I think,

[00:14:58] you know,

[00:14:58] it's up to you

[00:14:59] if you want to

[00:14:59] celebrate Halloween,

[00:15:01] if you want to

[00:15:01] celebrate Christmas

[00:15:02] like that,

[00:15:04] but I think we should

[00:15:05] remember that we can,

[00:15:06] we have the ability

[00:15:08] through his word

[00:15:09] and through prayer

[00:15:09] and guidance,

[00:15:11] we have the ability

[00:15:12] to discern

[00:15:13] like what we're doing,

[00:15:15] how we're celebrating it.

[00:15:16] Right.

[00:15:17] And,

[00:15:17] and,

[00:15:18] and glorifying God

[00:15:19] or not glorifying him.

[00:15:21] So,

[00:15:22] yeah.

[00:15:22] Yeah,

[00:15:23] exactly.

[00:15:23] Yeah.

[00:15:26] Cool,

[00:15:27] man.

[00:15:29] Yeah,

[00:15:30] I lost my train of thought,

[00:15:33] this scripture

[00:15:34] that I wanted to share on

[00:15:35] and,

[00:15:36] um,

[00:15:37] go ahead.

[00:15:37] It kind of goes on

[00:15:39] for a while,

[00:15:39] um,

[00:15:40] without,

[00:15:41] um,

[00:15:42] so I'm guessing,

[00:15:43] so.

[00:15:44] You can read that

[00:15:45] and then we can even

[00:15:46] read the whole chapter

[00:15:47] after that if you want to.

[00:15:48] Yeah,

[00:15:49] yeah.

[00:15:50] Um,

[00:15:51] so,

[00:15:51] uh,

[00:15:52] this is Paul

[00:15:53] writing to the

[00:15:54] church of Ephesus,

[00:15:57] um,

[00:15:58] to the saints

[00:15:59] in Ephesus.

[00:15:59] Which I think is mainly,

[00:16:01] uh,

[00:16:02] it's mainly Gentiles

[00:16:04] in that church,

[00:16:05] right?

[00:16:06] Okay.

[00:16:06] I think.

[00:16:07] Um,

[00:16:08] yeah,

[00:16:09] I think so.

[00:16:10] Um,

[00:16:12] and so,

[00:16:13] uh,

[00:16:14] let's see.

[00:16:16] Chapter two,

[00:16:17] verse one.

[00:16:18] Uh,

[00:16:19] my Bible has a title

[00:16:20] that says,

[00:16:21] by grace through faith.

[00:16:22] Um,

[00:16:25] so Paul says,

[00:16:26] and you,

[00:16:27] he made alive

[00:16:28] who were dead

[00:16:29] in trespasses

[00:16:30] and sins,

[00:16:31] uh,

[00:16:32] in which,

[00:16:33] which you once walked

[00:16:34] according to the course

[00:16:34] of this world,

[00:16:35] according to the prince

[00:16:36] of the power of the air,

[00:16:38] the spirit who now works

[00:16:39] in the sons of disobedience,

[00:16:41] among whom also

[00:16:43] we all once conducted

[00:16:44] ourselves,

[00:16:45] uh,

[00:16:46] in the lusts

[00:16:47] of our flesh,

[00:16:47] fulfilling the desires

[00:16:49] of the flesh

[00:16:51] and of the mind

[00:16:52] and were by nature

[00:16:53] children of wrath

[00:16:54] just as the others.

[00:16:56] Um,

[00:16:57] so that's

[00:16:58] verses one through three.

[00:17:01] Um,

[00:17:02] I'm just gonna keep reading

[00:17:03] a little bit more

[00:17:04] because I really love

[00:17:06] all this.

[00:17:07] verse four says,

[00:17:08] uh,

[00:17:09] but God who is rich

[00:17:10] in mercy

[00:17:11] because of his great love

[00:17:13] with which he loved us,

[00:17:14] even when we were dead

[00:17:16] in trespasses,

[00:17:16] made us alive

[00:17:17] together with Christ.

[00:17:18] Uh,

[00:17:19] by grace,

[00:17:20] you have been saved

[00:17:20] and raised us up together

[00:17:22] and made us sit together

[00:17:24] in the heavenly places

[00:17:25] in Christ Jesus

[00:17:26] that in the ages to come,

[00:17:28] he might show the exceeding

[00:17:29] riches of his grace

[00:17:30] in his kindness

[00:17:32] towards us in Christ Jesus

[00:17:33] for by grace,

[00:17:35] you have been saved

[00:17:36] through faith

[00:17:37] and that not,

[00:17:38] and that not of yourselves.

[00:17:40] It is the gift of God,

[00:17:42] not of works,

[00:17:43] lest anyone should boast

[00:17:44] for we are his workmanship

[00:17:46] created in Christ Jesus

[00:17:47] for good works

[00:17:49] which God prepared beforehand

[00:17:51] that we should walk in them.

[00:17:54] So,

[00:17:54] um,

[00:17:55] I mean,

[00:17:55] Paul is just teaching them

[00:17:57] the gospel.

[00:17:58] I mean,

[00:17:58] this is the gospel message

[00:17:59] at its core.

[00:18:00] Um,

[00:18:01] right,

[00:18:02] in such a short paragraph here.

[00:18:04] Yeah.

[00:18:05] Um,

[00:18:07] so yeah,

[00:18:08] do you want to dive in

[00:18:09] on that?

[00:18:11] Well,

[00:18:11] sure.

[00:18:12] One thing I noticed,

[00:18:13] uh,

[00:18:13] about that whole thing

[00:18:14] that you just read,

[00:18:15] uh,

[00:18:16] yeah,

[00:18:17] verses,

[00:18:17] verses one through ten

[00:18:18] is he's actually splitting up

[00:18:20] into three different,

[00:18:22] uh,

[00:18:24] tenses,

[00:18:25] I guess you could say.

[00:18:25] He's saying,

[00:18:26] you used to be like this

[00:18:27] and now this is what Christ

[00:18:29] is doing in you

[00:18:31] and this is what God's

[00:18:33] going to do

[00:18:33] in the coming ages.

[00:18:35] You know,

[00:18:35] he says,

[00:18:36] you know,

[00:18:37] uh,

[00:18:37] it says you were dead

[00:18:38] and then now it says,

[00:18:41] uh,

[00:18:41] you know,

[00:18:42] we're made alive in Christ

[00:18:43] and,

[00:18:44] and,

[00:18:44] uh,

[00:18:44] in the coming ages

[00:18:45] he might show

[00:18:46] the incomparable

[00:18:47] riches of his grace

[00:18:48] expressed in his kindness

[00:18:49] to us in Christ

[00:18:52] and telling us

[00:18:53] that we're going to become,

[00:18:54] uh,

[00:18:54] God's handiwork

[00:18:55] so that nobody could boast

[00:18:57] only through him.

[00:18:58] But he's saying,

[00:18:59] you were dead,

[00:19:00] you are being made alive

[00:19:02] with Christ

[00:19:02] and then God is going

[00:19:04] to show

[00:19:06] his incomparable riches

[00:19:07] in the ages to come.

[00:19:09] So it's a past,

[00:19:10] present,

[00:19:10] future

[00:19:12] representation

[00:19:13] all in one

[00:19:14] of the gospel right here.

[00:19:15] It's not just,

[00:19:16] okay,

[00:19:17] you were saved

[00:19:17] from your sins,

[00:19:18] the present tense

[00:19:19] and that's all you talk about

[00:19:20] or the past tense

[00:19:21] like you're saved

[00:19:22] from your sins.

[00:19:22] Oh,

[00:19:23] but you don't talk about

[00:19:24] the fact that Christ

[00:19:25] is in you now

[00:19:26] and then you don't talk

[00:19:27] about what God

[00:19:28] has for you

[00:19:29] in the future

[00:19:30] for the ages to come

[00:19:32] to show you his

[00:19:33] kindness

[00:19:33] and riches,

[00:19:35] richness.

[00:19:36] Um,

[00:19:37] and it's just like,

[00:19:38] so I think a lot of times

[00:19:39] people are only sharing

[00:19:40] one of the three gospels

[00:19:41] here.

[00:19:42] Yeah.

[00:19:43] one of the three parts

[00:19:44] here.

[00:19:44] It's all about

[00:19:44] the future.

[00:19:46] It's all about going to heaven

[00:19:47] and not going to hell

[00:19:48] like fire insurance

[00:19:49] I don't want to go to hell

[00:19:50] so I'll say this prayer

[00:19:51] or it's all about,

[00:19:52] Hey,

[00:19:53] just love Jesus.

[00:19:54] Just love Jesus.

[00:19:55] But you don't ever focus

[00:19:56] on the fact that you were

[00:19:57] saved from your sins

[00:19:58] by grace

[00:19:59] or you only focus

[00:20:00] on that fact

[00:20:01] and that you said a prayer

[00:20:02] and now you're supposed

[00:20:03] to just be miserable

[00:20:04] and there's no relationship

[00:20:05] there.

[00:20:05] So I would think

[00:20:06] it's amazing how he,

[00:20:08] you know,

[00:20:08] Paul being such

[00:20:09] a learned person,

[00:20:10] he was like

[00:20:12] in their academy

[00:20:13] to be the next head

[00:20:14] rabbi of all of Israel.

[00:20:15] He was going to be

[00:20:16] the next guy.

[00:20:17] He was next in line

[00:20:18] before he,

[00:20:19] you know,

[00:20:21] met Jesus

[00:20:21] and was sent

[00:20:23] on this quest.

[00:20:23] So he forsook

[00:20:24] that whole life

[00:20:25] but he was so smart

[00:20:27] and at that level
