[00:03:23] And he's got some of our songs he's listening to. So we'll go from there and see, you know, he seems like a really legitimate Christian metal hiff, likes all the same music we like, likes our music, and really just, you know, really wasn't expecting somebody to reach out to us.

[00:03:41] You know, it's been so long since we've tried to gather members from the ends of the earth, but the patience we've been having and, you know, just the prayers we've been sending up, it seems like the Holy Spirit's sending us a message like it's time to start putting a group together here so you can play live and everything.

[00:05:41] That was the verse that's been on my mind

[00:05:44] today.

[00:05:45] And it's actually

[00:05:46] my favorite verse

[00:05:50] because it was life-changing for me.

[00:05:52] It was the reason

[00:05:53] I started to

[00:05:56] follow Christ.

[00:05:57] And it says

[00:05:58] it says

[00:05:59] therefore

[00:05:59] if anyone is in Christ

[00:06:01] he is a new creation.

[00:06:03] Old things have passed away.

[00:06:04] Behold

[00:06:04] all things have become new.

[00:06:07] And

[00:06:09] somehow

[00:06:10] growing up

[00:06:11] you know

[00:06:11] going to church

[00:06:12] or

[00:06:12] you know

[00:06:13] very infrequently

[00:06:14] but growing to church

[00:06:15] and like

[00:06:16] being around

[00:06:17] you know

[00:06:18] seeing Christian pastors

[00:06:20] and things like that

[00:06:21] you know

[00:06:22] seeing sermons

[00:06:23] I've never

[00:06:24] I had never heard that sermon before

[00:06:26] and

[00:06:27] up until I was about

[00:06:29] like 20

[00:06:30] 28 years old

[00:06:33] and

[00:06:36] it just

[00:06:37] it just hit me like

[00:06:38] wait a minute

[00:06:39] in Christ

[00:06:40] I can become a new person

[00:06:41] like

[00:06:43] that just blew my mind

[00:06:44] like I can have new

[00:06:45] I can be

[00:06:46] I can have a new nature

[00:06:48] a new person

[00:06:49] new type of person

[00:06:50] and

[00:06:51] I was living in

[00:06:54] alcoholism

[00:06:55] and

[00:06:57] at the time

[00:06:58] was

[00:06:58] you know

[00:06:59] in recovery from alcoholism

[00:07:00] but I was still miserable

[00:07:01] and still

[00:07:02] like hating myself

[00:07:03] and hating the person

[00:07:04] that I was

[00:07:05] and the

[00:07:05] decisions that I made

[00:07:08] and

[00:07:08] this verse just

[00:07:10] jumped out at me

[00:07:11] and I went

[00:07:12] wait a minute

[00:07:12] I can be

[00:07:13] I can be a new person

[00:07:15] after

[00:07:15] like I've hated myself

[00:07:16] and I've always been taught

[00:07:17] that like

[00:07:18] you know

[00:07:19] you're always going to struggle

[00:07:20] with alcoholism

[00:07:20] you're always going to struggle

[00:07:21] with anger

[00:07:22] and

[00:07:23] things from your family

[00:07:24] or the

[00:07:26] addictions

[00:07:26] and the struggles

[00:07:27] that your family

[00:07:27] has always had

[00:07:28] like you're always going to have those

[00:07:29] you're always going to be a part of that

[00:07:32] and

[00:07:32] you know

[00:07:33] that's kind of what our

[00:07:34] our culture teaches us

[00:07:35] and

[00:07:36] I had never heard

[00:07:37] that we can be

[00:07:39] a new creation

[00:07:40] in Christ

[00:07:41] with new desires

[00:07:42] and new passions

[00:07:43] and

[00:07:50] becoming a new

[00:07:51] person

[00:07:52] with new desires

[00:07:53] and things like that

[00:07:53] and so

[00:07:55] yeah

[00:07:55] that's

[00:07:57] something that hit me

[00:07:59] and

[00:07:59] I'm

[00:08:00] obviously still a process

[00:08:01] with

[00:08:03] with Jesus

[00:08:05] but

[00:08:07] yeah

[00:08:08] I don't know what you want to

[00:08:09] if you want to

[00:08:09] share on that

[00:08:10] but I just

[00:08:12] I just

[00:08:12] that verse really changed my life

[00:08:14] it made me

[00:08:14] realize that I can

[00:08:16] I'm going a new path

[00:08:17] and I don't have to

[00:08:18] I don't have to accept

[00:08:19] the old person that I was

[00:08:20] anymore

[00:08:21] and that was freeing

[00:08:24] right

[00:08:25] yeah

[00:08:25] I mean you said

[00:08:27] you'd never heard that before

[00:08:28] and it's like

[00:08:30] even if they are

[00:08:31] talking about this

[00:08:32] in the synagogues

[00:08:33] and things like that

[00:08:34] it's not being modeled

[00:08:36] um

[00:08:37] outwardly

[00:08:37] so

[00:08:38] if anybody

[00:08:39] does speak about this

[00:08:41] they're

[00:08:41] speaking out of hypocrisy

[00:08:43] to the world

[00:08:44] and so

[00:08:45] maybe they don't speak about it

[00:08:46] a whole lot

[00:08:47] because

[00:08:48] everybody's kind of

[00:08:49] comfortable in their own

[00:08:50] ways

[00:08:51] and they've

[00:08:52] slid

[00:08:52] backslidden

[00:08:53] um

[00:08:55] and so

[00:08:56] you know

[00:08:56] but this is a story

[00:08:57] as old as Paul

[00:08:58] when he started the church

[00:08:59] uh

[00:09:00] himself

[00:09:00] was writing to the churches

[00:09:02] and saying

[00:09:02] look

[00:09:03] you don't

[00:09:04] need to live like this anymore

[00:09:05] in fact

[00:09:05] it's actually

[00:09:06] sinful

[00:09:07] and uh

[00:09:08] not becoming

[00:09:09] of someone

[00:09:09] who was bought

[00:09:10] by Christ

[00:09:11] you know

[00:09:12] in the blood of Christ

[00:09:13] uh

[00:09:14] you know

[00:09:15] you're insulting

[00:09:15] your salvation

[00:09:17] by continuing

[00:09:17] to worship

[00:09:19] other gods

[00:09:21] and uh

[00:09:21] you know

[00:09:22] you're becoming

[00:09:23] pharisaical

[00:09:23] by lording things

[00:09:24] over people

[00:09:25] like circumcision

[00:09:27] and it's just

[00:09:28] a story as old

[00:09:28] as time

[00:09:29] where

[00:09:29] you know

[00:09:30] we

[00:09:30] as much as

[00:09:31] we really

[00:09:31] want to try

[00:09:32] to get it

[00:09:32] we want to

[00:09:34] have some religion

[00:09:35] to

[00:09:36] to hold on to

[00:09:37] um

[00:09:39] we gotta just

[00:09:39] we gotta make sure

[00:09:40] it's God's ways

[00:09:41] and not man's ways

[00:09:42] that we're following

[00:09:43] because that's all

[00:09:44] it leads to

[00:09:44] is somebody

[00:09:45] who believes

[00:09:47] I'm really

[00:09:47] the same person

[00:09:48] you know

[00:09:48] this didn't work

[00:09:49] and so

[00:09:50] it's a nice thought

[00:09:52] it's a nice

[00:09:52] thought

[00:09:53] for everybody

[00:09:54] to go to heaven

[00:09:54] and for us to all

[00:09:56] you know

[00:09:57] uh

[00:09:58] not have to

[00:09:59] go to eternal

[00:10:00] punishment

[00:10:00] you know

[00:10:01] it's like a

[00:10:02] salvation station

[00:10:03] every church

[00:10:03] you go to

[00:10:04] and um

[00:10:05] that's not really

[00:10:06] what Jesus

[00:10:07] came to die for

[00:10:08] and I don't think

[00:10:08] that's why God

[00:10:09] sent Jesus to die

[00:10:11] um

[00:10:11] you know

[00:10:12] Jesus himself

[00:10:12] said he

[00:10:13] he came

[00:10:14] so that we

[00:10:14] could have life

[00:10:15] and have it

[00:10:16] in abundance

[00:10:17] um

[00:10:17] and that's

[00:10:18] so that means

[00:10:18] here on this earth

[00:10:19] as well

[00:10:20] that we're supposed

[00:10:20] to bring the

[00:10:21] kingdom of God

[00:10:21] down to this

[00:10:22] uh

[00:10:23] planet

[00:10:23] you know

[00:10:24] a lot of people

[00:10:25] are just waiting

[00:10:25] for that

[00:10:25] waiting for him

[00:10:26] to come back

[00:10:27] and it's like

[00:10:28] well

[00:10:28] do you want

[00:10:29] to explain to him

[00:10:29] why you haven't

[00:10:30] been doing

[00:10:31] what you're supposed

[00:10:31] to be this

[00:10:32] entire time

[00:10:32] I don't think

[00:10:33] you want to

[00:12:53] really believed

[00:12:54] it really

[00:12:54] lived it

[00:12:57] important to

[00:12:58] wasn't just

[00:13:00] didn't figure

[00:13:28] homosexuality

[00:13:29] pedophilia

[00:13:30] was normalized

[00:13:31] you know

[00:13:32] there was a

[00:13:33] whole group

[00:13:34] of uh

[00:13:34] believers that

[00:13:36] i think

[00:13:36] eventually

[00:13:36] renounced

[00:13:37] their faith

[00:13:38] and then

[00:13:39] reverse their

[00:13:40] circumcisions

[00:13:40] which is

[00:13:41] kind of

[00:13:42] i don't know

[00:13:43] how you even

[00:13:43] do that on a

[00:13:44] medical standpoint

[00:13:44] but apparently

[00:13:45] it's a painful

[00:13:46] process where

[00:13:47] you're somehow

[00:13:49] foreskin back

[00:14:46] freed from

[00:14:47] their slavery

[00:14:55] 40 years

[00:14:56] you know

[00:14:56] and it's like

[00:14:58] there was many

[00:14:58] times where they

[00:14:59] were like

[00:14:59] well why don't

[00:15:00] we just go

[00:15:00] back to

[00:15:02] egypt

[00:15:03] you know

[00:15:04] we were being

[00:15:05] at least

[00:15:05] it wasn't

[00:15:22] and maybe

[00:15:25] times you

[00:15:25] walking with

[00:15:26] christ is

[00:15:27] not easy

[00:15:28] and

[00:15:30] and

[00:15:31] sometimes

[00:15:32] you feel

[00:15:33] that like

[00:15:33] temptation

[00:15:33] to just

[00:15:34] be like

[00:15:34] oh i

[00:15:35] don't

[00:15:35] just go

[00:15:35] back to

[00:15:37] used to

[00:15:37] be

[00:15:37] and what

[00:15:38] i used

[00:18:29] were supposed

[00:18:29] to collect

[00:18:30] twice as much

[00:18:30] food on

[00:18:31] friday so

[00:18:32] that they

[00:18:32] could rest

[00:18:32] on saturday

[00:18:33] and if they

[00:18:34] collected any

[00:18:35] more than the

[00:18:35] amount of food

[00:18:36] they needed

[00:18:36] for that very

[00:18:37] day it

[00:18:38] would perish

[00:18:39] and it

[00:18:39] bugs would

[00:18:40] eat it or

[00:18:41] rot and

[00:18:42] so god was

[00:18:43] telling and

[00:19:26] water pouring

[00:19:27] that they can

[00:19:30] i think the

[00:19:31] reason they

[00:19:32] they wandered

[00:19:32] for so long in

[00:19:33] the wilderness

[00:19:33] was because of

[00:19:34] their complaining

[00:19:35] and they

[00:19:35] weren't uh

[00:19:37] they weren't

[00:19:38] ready for the

[00:19:39] promised land

[00:19:39] god didn't

[00:19:40] want them to

[00:19:40] ruin their

[00:19:42] chance at

[00:19:43] enjoying what

[00:19:44] he had said

[00:19:44] before them so

[00:19:46] he waited like

[00:19:47] entire generations

[00:19:48] before people

[00:19:49] died and

[00:19:50] said you're only

[00:19:51] your children will

[00:19:51] see the land i

[00:19:53] have given you

[00:19:53] and they so

[00:19:54] they basically

[00:19:55] knew right away

[00:19:56] we're just gonna

[00:19:56] die out here

[00:19:57] and so of

[00:19:58] course they they

[00:19:58] felt like what's

[00:20:00] the point you

[00:20:01] know um and

[00:20:03] yes it was just

[00:20:04] that little bit

[00:20:04] more freedom

[00:20:05] they felt like

[00:20:06] they had when

[00:20:06] they were living

[00:20:07] in in egypt

[00:20:08] even though they

[00:20:08] were slaves

[00:20:10] had an idea

[00:20:11] in their head

[00:20:11] that this was

[00:20:13] not the life

[00:20:14] they wanted to

[00:20:20] formed coups

[00:20:21] in order to

[00:20:24] kill moses and

[00:20:42] swallowed them up

[00:20:42] with the earth

[00:20:48] time anybody tried

[00:21:02] is a human problem

[00:21:09] they needed for

[00:21:14] jewelry that

[00:21:15] they could have

[00:21:16] in egypt and

[00:21:16] all these worldly

[00:21:17] possessions the

[00:21:19] god was like you

[00:21:19] don't need that

[00:21:20] you know you

[00:21:21] don't need all

[00:21:22] that stuff um

[00:21:24] and uh moses

[00:21:25] was just the

[00:21:26] the fall guy

[00:21:27] really you know

[00:21:27] but i just think

[00:21:29] about it in terms

[00:21:30] of us you know

[00:21:31] finally getting

[00:21:32] somebody interested

[00:21:33] in playing guitar

[00:21:34] for us also

[00:21:35] you know we

[00:21:37] just were patient

[00:24:30] just kind of puts

[00:24:37] um i was thinking

[00:24:45] gold you have to

[00:24:46] put it in heat

[00:24:48] impurities rise up

[00:25:22] developed into the

[00:25:25] person that god

[00:25:25] dreamed about before

[00:28:39] are the clay

[00:28:47] metaphor too it's

[00:28:49] like man god

[00:28:52] uses everything he

[00:28:53] is like a potter

[00:28:54] he can reform

[00:28:55] us and regenerate

[00:28:56] us in in ways

[00:28:57] that he dreams

[00:28:58] up and um

[00:29:03] yeah i just

[00:29:04] like i you

[00:29:05] know i love

[00:29:05] that i love

[00:29:06] that idea it's

[00:29:07] not it's not

[00:29:10] easy it's not

[00:29:12] easy because i

[00:29:12] feel like even

[00:29:13] when you find

[00:29:14] yourself in a

[00:29:14] in a season of

[00:29:15] struggling um

[00:29:19] you know like

[00:29:20] like i kind of

[00:29:20] did not too

[00:29:22] long ago i

[00:29:22] found myself in

[00:29:23] a season where

[00:29:23] i felt like i

[00:29:24] was uh you

[00:29:25] know distancing

[00:29:26] myself from

[00:29:27] from god um

[00:29:31] uh it just

[00:29:32] felt like felt

[00:29:33] like it was all

[00:29:33] part of a plan

[00:29:34] like he's he's

[00:29:35] forming me into

[00:29:36] this person that

[00:29:37] he's he's dreaming

[00:29:38] of uh and i

[00:29:41] needed to go

[00:29:42] through that i

[00:29:42] needed to go

[00:29:42] through such

[00:29:43] you know different

[00:29:44] situations different

[00:29:45] relationships different

[00:29:47] um circumstances

[00:29:49] that uh that

[00:29:54] might uh you

[00:29:55] know purify me

[00:29:56] more might draw

[00:29:56] me closer to

[00:29:57] him i um you

[00:29:59] know through i'm

[00:30:01] noticing now

[00:30:02] through adverse

[00:30:04] situations and

[00:30:05] through times of

[00:30:07] heartbreak and

[00:30:07] whatever um now i'm

[00:30:10] noticing that i'm i'm

[00:30:12] turning my focus on

[00:30:13] jesus more and more

[00:30:14] each time every time

[00:30:15] something uh

[00:30:17] something you know

[00:30:18] maybe traumatic

[00:30:18] happens or

[00:30:19] something uh that

[00:30:21] reminds me of old

[00:30:22] uh behaviors um

[00:30:24] now that i am

[00:30:26] following christ i'm

[00:30:27] noticing that i'm

[00:30:28] instead of instead

[00:30:30] of going towards

[00:30:31] other things like i

[00:30:33] used to um

[00:30:35] like alcohol or

[00:30:37] whatever or other

[00:30:39] a new relationship

[00:30:40] or anything like that

[00:30:41] i'm starting to

[00:30:41] focus more on jesus

[00:30:42] and that's

[00:30:43] really blowing my

[00:30:44] mind the more and

[00:30:45] more that

[00:30:46] something happens in

[00:30:48] my life that

[00:30:48] was hard

[00:30:49] it's turning my

[00:30:50] focus towards him

[00:30:51] more and more

[00:30:52] and uh

[00:30:55] that's hope for me

[00:30:56] like that's serious

[00:30:57] hope for me

[00:30:57] the more

[00:30:59] the more i focus on

[00:31:00] god the more i

[00:31:01] focus on jesus

[00:31:02] um like it just

[00:31:03] feels like old

[00:31:03] things are being

[00:31:04] pulled away from

[00:31:05] me

[00:31:06] um

[00:31:07] yeah that's

[00:31:10] yes

[00:31:11] that's not the

[00:31:12] main that's the

[00:31:14] main goal honestly

[00:31:14] and yeah

[00:31:15] um but i mean

[00:31:17] aside from your

[00:31:18] own

[00:31:19] uh

[00:31:20] improvement

[00:31:21] even though it's a

[00:31:22] painful process to

[00:31:23] be purified

[00:31:24] yeah

[00:31:25] you found a pain

[00:31:26] you've gone through

[00:31:26] in life or the

[00:31:27] experience that you've

[00:31:28] had with sin

[00:31:29] and overcoming it

[00:31:31] equips you to

[00:31:33] minister to other

[00:31:34] people who are going

[00:31:35] through the same

[00:31:35] pain and going

[00:31:37] through the same

[00:31:38] struggles in parts

[00:31:39] of their life where

[00:31:40] they're addicted or

[00:31:40] something you know

[00:31:42] it's just it's uh

[00:31:44] not even a coincidence

[00:31:45] to me you go to an

[00:31:46] AA meeting and

[00:31:47] there's 20 people

[00:31:48] in there that are

[00:31:50] sober souls and

[00:31:52] you know they

[00:31:53] started out the

[00:31:54] program saying your

[00:31:55] higher power you

[00:31:56] know uh thank your

[00:31:58] higher power pray to

[00:31:59] your higher power

[00:32:00] and somewhere

[00:32:01] around covid i

[00:32:02] started going to

[00:32:03] meetings again around

[00:32:04] that time um

[00:32:05] around covid i

[00:32:07] heard a lot more

[00:32:08] people saying god

[00:32:11] and actually even

[00:32:12] going further than

[00:32:12] being like the god

[00:32:14] of the god of the

[00:32:16] universe or the god

[00:32:16] of the bible they

[00:32:18] wanted people to

[00:32:19] know they weren't

[00:32:19] just talking about

[00:32:20] their higher power

[00:32:21] and the boldness

[00:32:22] that people started

[00:32:23] to have was like

[00:32:24] it was almost like

[00:32:26] collectively a lot

[00:32:27] of people were just

[00:32:28] like we gotta put

[00:32:28] it we gotta put a

[00:32:30] name to this you

[00:32:31] know this is

[00:32:31] actually this god

[00:32:34] i'm not because

[00:32:35] covid it just tested

[00:32:36] everybody to the length

[00:32:37] of i can't just

[00:32:38] be like oh my

[00:32:39] higher power anymore

[00:32:40] you know they

[00:32:41] actually investigated

[00:32:42] more and said i

[00:32:43] need this relationship

[00:32:45] and you know

[00:32:48] it's kind of just

[00:32:49] frowned upon in the

[00:32:49] rooms to push

[00:32:51] push your religion

[00:32:52] and stuff onto

[00:32:53] people but right

[00:32:54] when people introduce

[00:32:55] themselves what are

[00:32:56] you gonna do is stop

[00:32:56] them from talking

[00:32:57] right away they

[00:32:58] want they want to

[00:32:58] share something and

[00:33:00] yet their experiences

[00:33:02] speak so succinctly

[00:33:06] about recovery and

[00:33:07] how they overcame

[00:33:10] seemingly lost odds

[00:33:11] of you know never

[00:33:12] seeing their family

[00:33:13] again never being

[00:33:14] able to drive again

[00:33:15] never you know having

[00:33:16] this many DUIs and

[00:33:17] then just being like

[00:33:19] but now actually now i

[00:33:20] get to see my

[00:33:21] grandkids every weekend

[00:33:22] uh now that i'm sober

[00:33:25] i don't have to worry

[00:33:25] about uh the cops

[00:33:27] anymore if i get

[00:33:28] pulled over i'm not

[00:33:29] sweating about it

[00:33:30] um i'm not worried

[00:33:32] about hurting anybody

[00:33:33] and i know i'm gonna

[00:33:34] live long enough to

[00:33:35] see those kids grow up

[00:33:36] now if i don't kill

[00:33:38] myself with with this

[00:33:39] alcohol you know my

[00:33:40] body won't die

[00:33:42] prematurely very very

[00:33:43] prematurely and uh

[00:33:45] like it was going to

[00:33:46] and you just start to

[00:33:47] see you know people are

[00:33:49] coming around where

[00:33:50] it's like oh man

[00:33:51] people are using god

[00:33:52] now you know instead

[00:33:53] of you know um so my

[00:33:57] higher power you know

[00:33:58] it used to be really

[00:33:58] really a lot like that

[00:34:00] about you know five to

[00:34:01] ten years ago i

[00:34:02] remember that's all i

[00:34:03] ever heard you know

[00:34:04] was people being so

[00:34:06] respectful of like i

[00:34:07] don't want to make

[00:34:08] anybody else's god feel

[00:34:09] bad you know because

[00:34:10] this is about recovery

[00:34:11] and alcohol and it

[00:34:12] shouldn't be about you

[00:34:14] know but then people

[00:34:15] were like hey i gotta

[00:34:17] cut the crap here it's

[00:34:18] the only thing that

[00:34:19] worked for me

[00:34:20] and then i've been

[00:34:21] in the program this

[00:34:22] long and i can

[00:34:23] testify to you that

[00:34:26] you know there is a

[00:34:27] god there is this

[00:34:28] god and he's changed

[00:34:29] my life so much you

[00:34:31] know and the higher

[00:34:32] power thing just

[00:34:33] wasn't doing it for

[00:34:34] me guys you know um

[00:34:36] and then if you want

[00:34:37] to talk to me after

[00:34:38] the meeting great you

[00:34:39] know and i quit

[00:34:39] going to a meetings

[00:34:40] i need to start going

[00:34:41] back to them because

[00:34:41] it just teaches you how

[00:34:42] to live honestly but

[00:34:43] that's a very worldly

[00:34:47] program you know

[00:34:48] designed around prayer

[00:34:49] designed around a

[00:34:50] higher power but

[00:34:50] a really worldly

[00:34:53] example of realizing

[00:34:54] you need help

[00:34:55] and you need other

[00:34:56] people to help you

[00:34:57] you can't

[00:34:59] your brain is not

[00:35:00] going to tell you

[00:35:01] what you want to hear

[00:35:01] and you're and you're

[00:35:03] not going to listen

[00:35:04] to yourself most of

[00:35:05] the time

[00:35:06] so

[00:35:08] you know we have

[00:35:09] this advocate in

[00:35:10] jesus christ and

[00:35:10] and in talking to

[00:35:11] god that if we ask

[00:35:13] the holy spirit to

[00:35:14] guide us in our

[00:35:14] thoughts and our

[00:35:15] actions then maybe

[00:35:16] we'll listen to

[00:35:17] that you know but

[00:35:18] if we're constantly

[00:35:19] just listening to

[00:35:20] what we want to hear

[00:35:21] and we have people

[00:35:22] around us that tell

[00:35:24] us what we want to

[00:35:24] hear and and we

[00:35:25] just keep taking the

[00:35:26] same actions that's

[00:35:27] the definition of a

[00:35:28] sanity you just uh keep

[00:35:30] making the same

[00:35:31] choices um yeah you

[00:35:33] know there's a lot of

[00:35:33] people really in really

[00:35:35] bad spots you know

[00:35:37] from from that process

[00:35:38] and uh so you kind of

[00:35:41] got to ask yourself when

[00:35:42] you're mature is it is it

[00:35:43] worth it to be going

[00:35:45] through this pain

[00:35:47] on a daily basis or

[00:35:49] just have basically

[00:35:51] your life ruined and

[00:35:52] you can't come back

[00:35:54] from it there are

[00:35:55] things you can't come

[00:35:56] back from in this life

[00:35:57] you can be forgiven for

[00:35:59] anything you can god

[00:36:00] will accept you if you

[00:36:02] come to him and you ask

[00:36:03] his forgiveness but as

[00:36:04] far as this world you

[00:36:05] know there's people in

[00:36:07] prison right now that

[00:36:07] aren't getting out um

[00:36:09] there's people in the

[00:36:10] graveyard right now that

[00:36:11] didn't think they'd be

[00:36:12] there and they're you

[00:36:14] know didn't reach didn't

[00:36:15] go past 15 or 20 or

[00:36:16] something like that um

[00:36:19] so these are all things

[00:36:20] that we have uh meditate

[00:36:23] on and just thank god

[00:36:24] that we you know have a

[00:36:27] chance and we have a

[00:36:28] we have an opportunity

[00:36:28] every single day to uh

[00:36:31] ask for his guidance

[00:36:32] and his uh you know

[00:36:35] leadership i guess other

[00:36:37] things and then to

[00:36:38] actually take that advice

[00:36:40] you know not just

[00:36:41] drown out the voice

[00:36:42] because then he'll just

[00:36:43] stop talking to you

[00:36:46] yeah that's interesting

[00:36:48] that you talk about

[00:36:48] people in prison uh just

[00:36:50] i literally just watched

[00:36:51] a video there's a uh

[00:36:55] organization non-profit

[00:36:57] organization called god

[00:36:58] behind bars and uh they

[00:37:01] share the gospel with

[00:37:02] people with inmates and

[00:37:03] and they typically go to

[00:37:06] like uh some really bad

[00:37:09] prisons like ones where

[00:37:10] people have aren't death

[00:37:11] row and stuff and uh

[00:37:13] there's a video of uh over

[00:37:15] the weekend 80 inmates

[00:37:17] at um i forget what

[00:37:19] prison it was but it's

[00:37:20] you know it's a large one

[00:37:22] it's a well-known one but

[00:37:23] 80 inmates in there um got

[00:37:26] baptized and gave their life

[00:37:28] to christ you know and it's

[00:37:30] like how how crazy is it

[00:37:34] that there are there are

[00:37:36] men in prison you know and

[00:37:39] they're not getting out and

[00:37:43] they're being baptized and

[00:37:44] you see joy in their face in

[00:37:46] their faces and peace and

[00:37:49] it's like man that that came

[00:37:52] from that's a gift that is

[00:37:54] such a beautiful gift that

[00:37:56] somebody could that jesus can

[00:37:59] give somebody who's like on

[00:38:00] death row hope and peace

[00:38:03] with their decisions and the

[00:38:05] person that they were and um

[00:38:08] you know and that's the

[00:38:11] that's the the big question

[00:38:12] right in in our world today is

[00:38:15] there's so much uh there's

[00:38:18] so much self-help and so

[00:38:20] much you know you know you

[00:38:21] need to love yourself more

[00:38:24] and you know solutions of

[00:38:27] i've you know i've heard it

[00:38:28] said by a pastor that

[00:38:30] you can't cure self

[00:38:32] problems with more self like

[00:38:34] you need something higher than

[00:38:35] self and uh

[00:38:38] um you know we've

[00:38:40] you know god is

[00:38:41] you know pretty much in the bible

[00:38:43] talking about how much

[00:38:44] we already love ourselves so much

[00:38:48] it's like it's not actually

[00:38:49] it's not actually that we need

[00:38:51] to love ourselves more it's that

[00:38:52] you know we already love

[00:38:54] ourselves so much and that's why

[00:38:55] we're so miserable you know i

[00:38:57] believe that's how i kind of was

[00:38:59] uh and so

[00:39:04] um yeah we need to look we need

[00:39:06] to look outwardly at um jesus

[00:39:09] instead of inward and you were

[00:39:11] talking about aa um and you know

[00:39:14] alcoholics anonymous they're

[00:39:15] they're so helpful to so many

[00:39:17] people and especially people that

[00:39:20] have no basis of you know spiritual

[00:39:23] wellness or you know even atheists

[00:39:26] can go to aa and and get well from

[00:39:29] from addiction you know um but it

[00:39:34] was it was just you know my my

[00:39:35] problem going through recovery was i

[00:39:38] was like i still feel like there's

[00:39:40] something more like i'm i'm i'm not

[00:39:42] getting

[00:39:43] uh i was like there's you know i you

[00:39:46] know reading the you know the big book

[00:39:47] that you use you know i was just like

[00:39:49] i just feel like there's something

[00:39:50] more i feel like i'm called to

[00:39:51] something higher i'm just not

[00:39:53] i'm not peaceful in this place like

[00:39:55] i've i'm like i get that i'm you

[00:39:57] know

[00:39:58] righting wrongs and and um you know

[00:40:00] trying to change

[00:40:02] my um

[00:40:03] my behaviors and the way i've done

[00:40:05] things but i kept asking myself like

[00:40:07] how do i do that and then

[00:40:08] you know and i'm talking

[00:40:09] to god but i don't even know who god

[00:40:12] is like

[00:40:12] you know it's just it's just a title

[00:40:14] um and so you know once you start

[00:40:18] following the bible you start to

[00:40:20] recognize that

[00:40:20] oh this god is actually very personal

[00:40:24] he's made it very

[00:40:26] made himself he's revealed himself to

[00:40:28] us he's he's given us his name

[00:40:30] uh you know yahweh this is this is

[00:40:34] the god who created everything

[00:40:35] um

[00:40:37] and you know once i started

[00:40:39] to really recognize that who this god

[00:40:42] is and who you know our god how

[00:40:44] personal he is and how revealing he

[00:40:47] is

[00:40:47] you know you kind of was i i again

[00:40:50] this is you know my own story was i

[00:40:52] kind of just felt like god was

[00:40:53] distant and kind of something that we

[00:40:55] couldn't really understand

[00:40:57] and uh you know he's just kind of

[00:40:59] this big guy in the universe

[00:41:01] that created everything

[00:41:03] and it's like no like actually he's not

[00:41:06] very mysterious as

[00:41:07] we like to say he is it's because none

[00:41:09] of us are reading the bible it's like

[00:41:11] we read the bible man god has really

[00:41:13] revealed himself

[00:41:14] to who he is what his plans are what he

[00:41:17] wants to do what his will is his will

[00:41:19] is to

[00:41:20] is to uh you know save us from our sinful

[00:41:24] nature and and that was one of those

[00:41:26] things that i recognized with

[00:41:27] alcoholism it was like why do i choose

[00:41:29] alcohol why am i stuck

[00:41:30] with this and um you know it starts with

[00:41:34] recognizing that we're born in a sinful

[00:41:36] world and you know alcoholism's part of

[00:41:39] one of those problems and it's like what

[00:41:40] do we do about that and that's why we

[00:41:42] share that's why i think it was

[00:41:43] important for us to share what the

[00:41:45] gospel was it's like

[00:41:46] it's like man so it's like what do i do

[00:41:49] about this problem do i have to just

[00:41:51] do i have to just be afraid of my

[00:41:54] addictions forever do i have to just run

[00:41:56] away from it forever

[00:41:57] um and that gave me so much anxiety

[00:42:01] of just recognizing like like oh my gosh

[00:42:04] like how am i ever going to be able to

[00:42:07] be around somebody who's drinking or be

[00:42:10] around alcohol or or or anything or like

[00:42:13] um you know like a beautiful girl or

[00:42:16] anything like anything like that like

[00:42:18] how am i gonna how am i gonna do these

[00:42:20] things and you know god promises us that

[00:42:24] again second corinthians 5 17 that if we

[00:42:27] become if we follow christ that we can

[00:42:28] become a new person with new desires and

[00:42:31] new attributes a new nature and a new um

[00:42:35] a new way to live

[00:42:38] um you know we don't have to be a slave

[00:42:41] anymore to some of those things that we

[00:42:43] were addicted to and struggling with

[00:42:45] and man that's just that's hope right

[00:42:51] there it's like

[00:42:52] it's like i i was so i was so scared of

[00:42:55] myself and the the person that i was and

[00:42:58] the way that i chose to do things that i

[00:42:59] was like i was you know borderline

[00:43:02] suicidal in recovery from alcohol like i

[00:43:05] was you know everybody kept telling me

[00:43:07] you know as you once you're sober you

[00:43:09] know everything's gonna be good your

[00:43:10] life's gonna be better and it was like

[00:43:11] you know it didn't get it wasn't as

[00:43:13] crazy anymore it wasn't um

[00:43:16] obviously i wasn't doing some of the

[00:43:18] things that i was but i still just felt

[00:43:20] this emptiness inside me that i just

[00:43:22] could not figure out and i and i uh

[00:43:25] i hated the person that i was and the

[00:43:28] and i hated uh um the things that i

[00:43:33] thought about and um you know started to

[00:43:36] feel so miserably almost yeah almost

[00:43:39] suicidal after everybody told me

[00:43:42] everything was going to be better um

[00:43:44] once alcohol was removed but alcohol

[00:43:47] was just one symptom of the major problem

[00:43:49] which is our sinful nature and so you know

[00:43:53] i just found hope in jesus that if we

[00:43:57] look at him more and more then our

[00:44:00] sinful nature gets pulled away if we focus

[00:44:02] on him more and more and go with the way

[00:44:06] he taught and listen to what he wants us

[00:44:10] to do not not just what we want to do with

[00:44:13] ourselves uh that's my hope and you know

[00:44:19] i don't i don't know i hope somebody

[00:44:20] listening can relate with that but that was

[00:44:24] enough for me like that was that's life

[00:44:27] changing that's why that verse changed my

[00:44:29] life like i went oh man through christ i

[00:44:32] can become i can become new and that's

[00:44:35] what i was searching for in you know

[00:44:37] recovery programs and in other things that

[00:44:40] i might have idolized like football or my

[00:44:43] job or a relationship things like that no

[00:44:46] option gave me that there was nothing in

[00:44:49] this world that could give me that option

[00:44:51] of uh you know eternal hope of being

[00:44:54] sanctified and being changed into a new

[00:44:56] person that god desires uh for me

[00:45:00] that's that's amazing dude because yeah you

[00:45:04] know after what you just said and what you

[00:45:07] said about the prisoners too i think they

[00:45:11] had to go through the entire world and ruin

[00:45:14] their lives to actually find what we've

[00:45:16] already found you know god had to find

[00:45:18] them behind bars you know when they were

[00:45:21] isolated to actually get them to find him

[00:45:25] you know um but he gave them what the world

[00:45:28] could never have given them all in once all

[00:45:30] in one moment behind bars they're the

[00:45:34] freest people on earth you know in their

[00:45:37] mind and in their spirit there are people in

[00:45:40] prison that will never get out that are

[00:45:41] happier than you are it's just a fact in

[00:45:45] society they exhausted all of their all of

[00:45:50] their avenues all at once and had to find

[00:45:54] out in a very uh abrupt way that this is what

[00:45:59] they wanted their entire lives and i've heard

[00:46:02] some testimonies before where they're like

[00:46:05] you know these walls can't even hold me

[00:46:07] anymore i know i'm here but i'm not here

[00:46:11] here i'm actually outside they can they can

[00:46:15] see themselves in the way god sees them and

[00:46:18] they don't they don't i think what the world

[00:46:21] could not give them was forgiveness and the

[00:46:25] world definitely can't teach us how to forgive

[00:46:27] ourselves either because i think that's the

[00:46:30] other thing that the last step for anybody

[00:46:32] especially in that situation is to learn to love

[00:46:35] themselves again and not hold on to the guilt and

[00:46:39] and the shame that comes with uh what you've done in

[00:46:44] life and you know you're you're in prison for a

[00:46:47] reason um and everybody's just telling you it's

[00:46:50] over you know and then a pastor comes in and says

[00:46:53] you want salvation you know uh you can you can free

[00:46:58] yourself right now you don't have to be the person

[00:47:00] you've always been and the world has no no prescription

[00:47:04] for that um it's just that these people had to have

[00:47:08] every other distraction removed from their lives to even

[00:47:12] have an opportunity to to realize this you know when they

[00:47:16] realize i don't have anything else to to fall back on and

[00:47:21] that's our problem here in the free world and in america

[00:47:24] especially as we have so many fail safes you know we get bailed out

[00:47:29] way too much by our by our uh government by our family members

[00:47:35] that enable us um people that want the best for us

[00:47:39] and think the best of us um and we take advantage of those

[00:47:45] things say okay well let me get away with it this

[00:47:48] time and we do it again and with god there is none of that

[00:47:52] it's he sees everything everything is documented and recorded so

[00:47:57] if when you come to him it's absolutely a okay what do we do here

[00:48:02] you know i'm gonna forgive all of your sins

[00:48:05] and you're gonna be mine from now on and the world can't offer

[00:48:11] any of that obviously not that's why there's so many people

[00:48:14] going to prison is because they're looking for love

[00:48:17] and they're all the wrong places they're looking for love in the same place

[00:48:20] they consistently lose it um time and time again and that's all of our stories

[00:48:26] um and uh you know it's just it's just that if the devil could do one thing

[00:48:34] say any everybody and not do anything else

[00:48:38] to harm us he would have it where we were convinced that we were

[00:48:42] had divine betrayal among us you know um that god really didn't

[00:48:47] exist or he didn't love us and he gave up on us that would be his main

[00:48:53] uh gimmick you know if he couldn't do anything else to us

[00:48:56] he would have us believe that god uh betrayed us

[00:49:00] and uh what do you see in media today and

[00:49:04] and um just the loudspeakers we have

[00:49:07] in the earth it's absolutely the

[00:49:12] uh lucifer is the what do they say he's the

[00:49:15] he's the god of the air i always wondered what that meant i'm like the god of the

[00:49:20] air and now i think about it and i'm like

[00:49:22] airwaves the the the air that we use to travel across the planet and

[00:50:21] okay i guess that's my uh philosophy now

[00:50:25] you know that's just absolutely what we're doing in this life

[00:50:28] um and we have to guard ourselves against those things but

[00:50:32] to know the truth man like you're talking about is just

[00:50:35] you know it takes looking at a testimony of somebody who's in prison

[00:50:38] has a death penalty or is just in there for life who

[00:50:44] you know after only so many years said hey i'm gonna

[00:50:47] free myself from this prison mentally and spiritually and they're happier than a

[00:50:52] lot of people here living freely yeah you know we're living in our own

[00:50:56] prisons self-created uh yeah suffering honestly

[00:51:00] man yeah gosh i was thinking while you were

[00:51:05] while you were talking um

[00:51:08] yeah there's a lot of uh deception from uh from the enemy right um and yeah

[00:51:14] you were talking about you know god you know the devil's kind of like

[00:51:18] you know airwaves but you know it is true

[00:51:21] you know the bible says the devil's

[00:51:24] uh just roams the earth and even

[00:51:27] you know when satan was talking to to jesus he was he was he was saying he

[00:51:33] was just wandering around he's just wandering around looking for

[00:51:35] someone to devour you know he's just kind of

[00:51:37] he's like a he is he's like a snake he's just

[00:51:40] wandering wandering through through the earth and so um

[00:51:45] a cornered animal

[00:51:50] and one of the you know one of the things that i was thinking of and i don't

[00:51:58] you know i've i've shared on being a new creature

[00:52:02] and new creation and things like that

[00:52:06] but you know i you know i wanted to share kind of on how

[00:52:09] what it means to be born again

[00:52:11] and one of the thoughts that came to my mind was

[00:52:16] you know we there's this lie that we can just be

[00:52:22] you know you could just say that say a formula prayer like

[00:52:25] they say on tv and you're good

[00:52:28] um

[00:52:30] and you know it's just you know intentions

[00:52:32] and motives they matter and so if you

[00:52:35] if you're just saying a prayer hoping to not go to hell like that's just

[00:52:40] not being born again christian

[00:52:41] that's just not the gospel

[00:52:43] um uh it's one of these things i have a hard time

[00:52:47] uh wrapping my head around but i i think that's one of the deceptions of our

[00:52:50] world is

[00:52:51] um we have so many people that are

[00:52:53] uh

[00:52:55] that are not living for christ

[00:52:57] um you know that's one of the passages

[00:52:59] in second corinthians that

[00:53:01] it says right here um

[00:53:05] second corinthians 5 15 right before

[00:53:09] the verse i was talking about it says

[00:53:11] um

[00:53:12] those who live should live no longer for themselves but

[00:53:15] for him who died for them and rose again

[00:53:19] um

[00:53:20] it's like we're you know just by just

[00:53:23] just saying uh just saying a quick prayer

[00:53:25] and thinking that you're you're saved

[00:53:27] and you're not living for jesus anymore

[00:53:29] and you're not you're still living for yourself i think is

[00:53:31] you know fruit that shows that you're

[00:53:32] you didn't actually get born again

[00:53:34] um and that's one of those scary thoughts

[00:53:36] that i think of with maybe so many people

[00:53:39] but um

[00:53:41] you know the first words in jesus's

[00:53:45] ministry is just it says repent and believe the gospel

[00:53:48] it's like

[00:53:50] it makes sense that he would say repent first

[00:53:52] before believing

[00:53:53] the gospel

[00:53:54] it's like

[00:53:55] it's like so

[00:53:56] if we're we want to be born again

[00:53:58] that means

[00:53:59] we have to become

[00:54:00] we have to

[00:54:02] follow christ

[00:54:03] in a new heart posture

[00:54:05] now we're

[00:54:05] we're repenting

[00:54:06] which means we're

[00:54:07] turning our

[00:54:08] we're turning from our old ways

[00:54:11] we're turning from sin

[00:54:13] everything that we used to know

[00:54:17] we're going in a different direction

[00:54:23] you would want to see happen

[00:54:27] who wants to be born again

[00:54:31] a transition

[00:54:35] their old sin nature

[00:54:39] nailed to the cross

[00:55:55] it's better for those
