[00:00:00] A WIM is a win, but the bottom line is, man, it's hard to break us now.

[00:00:06] It's hard to break us, as a matter of fact you ain't gonna do it.

[00:00:09] The following is a presentation of Hobson Media.

[00:00:13] Woohoo!

[00:00:14] It's not just another day. It's 2-day.

[00:00:21] This is the Church Pew Sports podcast, featuring a group of pastors delivering bombastic takes on sports, life and faith.

[00:00:30] I'd like to drink their hate or raid and eat their hate or toss.

[00:00:33] Take a knee.

[00:00:39] Lend an ear.

[00:00:40] These are some of the best questions I've had to tell you that straight up.

[00:00:44] That's special.

[00:00:45] As the Church Pew Sports podcast begins.

[00:00:48] It's funny how one man's terrible is another man's pure joy.

[00:00:51] And man next to you somebody that gets to heaven! Two-day!

[00:00:55] We got to move on.

[00:00:56] We got to move on.

[00:00:59] And with that we welcome you into another edition of Church Pew Sports.

[00:01:03] We can export to life and faith and have a really fun time doing it.

[00:01:07] Great to have you with us.

[00:01:08] Thank you for subscribing to the podcast and hopefully sharing the link with other sports fans in your world.

[00:01:15] Bill Hobson here, joined as always by Pastor Paul Miller, who is in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

[00:01:21] Joining us from in his Zoom scene that he has.

[00:01:25] He's in front of a very pastoral farmland setting.

[00:01:29] So even though you're basically in the city of Minneapolis, I'm going to picture that you just came in from taking care of the sheep and the cattle.

[00:01:39] Yeah man whatever works.

[00:01:40] I do just need to tell you that the people I'm house sitting for the wife painted that picture herself.

[00:01:47] So we need to be very careful what we say about it.

[00:01:49] I think it's a great picture.

[00:01:50] I just I'm used to it now because each week that's where we connect with you.

[00:01:55] And it's so fun.

[00:01:56] So fun to be able to welcome back into the podcast our friend Dr. Dallas, Gatlin.

[00:02:02] As of most recent the retired executive director of a place called Carriage Town Ministries in downtown Flint, Michigan.

[00:02:09] He's wearing his Detroit Tigers hat because they're in contention for a playoff birth and he's also a gigantic.

[00:02:16] That's a great tour.

[00:02:17] Lions, fans Dallas, it's good to see house life.

[00:02:20] Life is great.

[00:02:22] I'm the chief executive of Papa Ministries.

[00:02:27] I can't do anything, baby.

[00:02:29] Instead of seeking donations.

[00:02:31] You're giving them out at an alarming rate.

[00:02:34] I am doing that in now because of that.

[00:02:36] I'm also seeking them.

[00:02:38] It's probably a good idea.

[00:02:39] I put up a crowdfunding for grandfathering.

[00:02:41] That's not a that's a idea we should jot down and keep track of.

[00:02:45] Well, last week on the program we focused a lot of our attention on the beginning of the

[00:02:49] college football season between then and now. Let's see what it I do. I went to the big house

[00:02:56] and watched a shell-acking put on my Wolverines by the Texas Longhorns. And then, even though I

[00:03:02] know Paul is a bear's fan, those of us who are in Lions Country, boy, we had a thrill ride for

[00:03:09] the season opener that went all the way into overtime against the the Rams. It seems like

[00:03:15] Lions are on a playoff on core tour these next couple of days and here's how that game

[00:03:22] against the Rams ended. The end zone will end it. Go off a Bunder Center, single back

[00:03:28] Montgomery. Go off takes the snap turns gives them Montgomery breaks out and zone touchdown

[00:03:33] Detroit Lions. This game is over. Pack it up boys. We're going home. It opening night victory

[00:03:42] for the Lions. Great call by Dan Miller, Dallas, Gettland. First of all that was a late night

[00:03:47] finish for the overtime were you with us all the way through? I was there, yeah but I hadn't

[00:03:52] mercy not texting you. I hope you noticed that. No, I was up. I was there all the way through.

[00:03:59] Paul, we every fan base gets ridiculously overly optimistic and excited for the start of the season.

[00:04:08] You being a bearer span. How do you interpret what happened? They got the dub, but it

[00:04:16] if they're on the bears game. If there were points for pretty, there wouldn't be many points awarded.

[00:04:21] No, no, not at all but I do want to just say that I think it's awesome what's going on with Detroit

[00:04:26] first of all in my fantasy football league. I'm trying hard to trade for James and Williams

[00:04:31] and or David Montgomery and their values are officially inflated right now. I'm going to tell

[00:04:36] you guys, none of which are our Michigan guys. So that just goes to tell you that goes to show

[00:04:43] you that the bandwagon is alive and well I think it's excellent. I was texting back and forth

[00:04:50] with my neighbor from Michigan the entire game because he likes to tell me how much the bear

[00:04:55] suck and then tell me how much the Lions don't. So my bears, I don't know what to tell you man,

[00:05:00] they got the win. The only thing I would give Caleb Williams credit for is his post game presser where

[00:05:08] he could have said a lot of things, but he actually came straight, came clean and said,

[00:05:15] literally that was not the game I wanted to have for my first game in the NFL and I'm going to

[00:05:19] work hard to be better, but we did win. So I can be happy about that. That's about as honest as he

[00:05:31] said, I'm going to be a little bit more confident. Obviously he didn't get the win but man, he took

[00:05:33] his line-man and just threw him directly under a giant charter bus which seems like a tough look

[00:05:39] for a team leader, but I don't want to go back into college Dallas, let's talk about the Lions

[00:05:45] and your level of confidence slash concern when it seems like they're being picked by an awful lot

[00:05:54] national publications or media outlets or so-called, I'll use air quotes experts. Does that make

[00:05:59] you nervous or confident? Sure, he's towards picked him. Yes, he's true. That was that was the

[00:06:06] big finale for me. I feel all comfortable now. It's fun, it's fun to see national attention because

[00:06:14] we never were in the discussion on the sports talk shows and NFL never during anything without

[00:06:21] just derision. So it was a quick laugh and we're done with the spotlight. I do think as a

[00:06:28] Lions fan, you have a lot of lingering PTSD from previous years. You approach a game like this last

[00:06:34] when you go is no way we can beat the Rams in twice in a row but you don't say it all loud because

[00:06:40] you don't want to appear fearful but it was just the way they won that last game after playing

[00:06:46] pretty average was impressive and just fun to watch and that's the kind of thing we didn't get

[00:06:53] very often in the past. Got some of it with Matt Stafford coming back for some wins but yeah,

[00:07:02] I'm cautiously happy. It's just fun. It's really fun to be a Lions fan right now and see the telecast

[00:07:10] of downtown Detroit totally blowing people's minds about what Detroit looks like now, you know,

[00:07:18] as a city even. So yeah so will either of you get to a game this season? Okay so a little story for

[00:07:25] you you know I think I've told you Paul before that our friend who is a frequent guest on the podcast

[00:07:31] Randy Gilmer who lives in Vegas has Michigan football season tickets and sells a lot of them

[00:07:38] makes it in for a couple of games. What I didn't know until yesterday's until Sunday was that he

[00:07:46] has two Lions season tickets. Oh really? Yeah because a couple of our mutual friends went to

[00:07:53] that game and I said how in the world did you get tickets? You know I used Randy so I'm like wait a minute

[00:07:58] the guy who lives in Vegas has so I made a quick text shot out to my friends in Vegas and I said

[00:08:05] hey if you ever happen to come across any that you haven't already you know sold somewhere I'd be

[00:08:11] very interested and I am the proud owner of a pair of tickets to the Lions and Packers on December 5th

[00:08:18] and 8pm Thursday night game which could be important it could be it could be fairly epic so

[00:08:27] I'm I'm looking forward to that one and those tickets are hard to come by these days they really are

[00:08:33] so Dallas is probably going to serve as chaplain for a few games I would guess he's probably

[00:08:38] talked enough to those to make those decisions down there. So Paul I know we want to take advantage

[00:08:44] of Dallas this time and throw some NFL related questions his way so why don't you take it and

[00:08:49] give him a little stir and challenge here. Well okay where do I want to take this? Okay well

[00:08:56] first thing I want to do is I want to ask you about the Tyree Kill getting arrested and then

[00:09:03] celebrating his touchdown with the handcuff thing in his game after he got arrested I just Dallas

[00:09:09] I'm curious about your reaction to that. Yeah of course I'm still kind of putting all that together because

[00:09:15] I heard his first interview you know like my dad taught me how to behave when I get pulled over by

[00:09:21] a police officer and that's what I did in the course of videos showed something completely different

[00:09:26] than that there was a lot of wrong happened on that plane on that moment I do think you know put

[00:09:36] your hands behind your back like your zip tie together is part of what caused the situation to happen

[00:09:44] in the first place and certainly he didn't launch into that but I'll tell you this some sympathy

[00:09:50] for him I know why he didn't want to have his window down because fans were driving all kinds of

[00:09:56] us driving in and out of there and that was easily misunderstood by police officers who's you know

[00:10:02] they're trying to protect their lives too they don't know who that is obviously yeah so it sat

[00:10:07] all the way around I didn't like that when he did that in the end zone I'll just say that

[00:10:13] I didn't think it was funny and I didn't think it was appropriate but I also didn't like the

[00:10:18] officer's behavior you know our our golfer friend didn't get thrown on the ground but he did you know

[00:10:25] the diary did and there is a difference there that we need to understand yeah both of them both

[00:10:31] Scotty Schaffler and Tyree Kill it had an encounter with law enforcement that went from zero to a

[00:10:38] hundred in a flash yeah and my hope would be that on all parties concerned we'd have a dimmer switch

[00:10:45] instead of a toggle switch can we can we slowly figure out the temperature of the situation before

[00:10:51] we go all the way to you're gonna get tazed in a second if you don't like it wow and however

[00:10:59] if I'm the officer and the next car that pulls up parks in the street and out gets Kalei's

[00:11:05] Campbell who is essentially the size of the earth by the way also a Walter Peyton man of the year

[00:11:12] I mean the guy is incredible but I could understand while of a sudden you and your your colleagues

[00:11:16] who are in law enforcement be very concerned with what might come next so

[00:11:21] strange look all the way around that's for sure in Tyree I think I think I think if he could change

[00:11:26] the name on a back of his jersey and just put the word strange on there it probably would be

[00:11:30] pretty appropriate he said he's an odd cat that would work for him okay so here's my next stop right

[00:11:36] I just I watched a lot of football in week one and so I'm thinking about and I'm thinking about

[00:11:41] order backs like I quarterbacks on the brain so I'm thinking about like Aaron Rogers the Sean Watson

[00:11:48] Kirk cousins Jordan love like all four of those guys had interesting first weeks

[00:11:57] any of those that stood out to you guys any of those were like well actually that guy he just looked

[00:12:02] rusty or that guy was terrible and I have my own opinions I'd love to hear so that's Aaron Rogers

[00:12:06] Jordan love the Sean Watson Kirk cousins Bill I'll jump on that just to say just unusual for me it's

[00:12:14] like I was I was hoping Jordan love didn't get hurt yeah once he got hurt I wasn't thinking about it

[00:12:23] before that because I do want the line the lines to beat them at their best you know and who knows he

[00:12:29] maybe back it looks like he might be and I found myself hoping that Rogers did get hurt

[00:12:38] I'm not proud of that I'm not proud of that at all professionally but you're not alone you're

[00:12:43] not alone brother no just you know like like maybe maybe make it to the second drive this time

[00:12:48] and get hurt yeah at me you know what's funny about that Dallas is I felt the same way about Jordan

[00:12:55] love I am definitely not a packer span and neither is Paul because he's a bears guy but I'd like to see

[00:13:05] energizing talented young players develop and he seems to be a pretty good guy from what I can

[00:13:10] observe from a million miles away and I don't know if he's dinged up or if he's going to be out of

[00:13:16] a little while but to me the biggest revelation of the the list you shared Paul is that the browns

[00:13:24] desperately trying to leak out news to find a way to invoke the escape clause in a

[00:13:30] bazillion dollar contract because they are finally coming to grips with the fact that the

[00:13:35] Sean Watson is not good and they're paying him a franchise fee amount of money to be not good

[00:13:43] us it's their default they paid it to him they guaranteed it they knew the moral issues that were

[00:13:49] part of this man's world and we're willing to overlook it if he was good and I so dislike that mindset

[00:13:57] that at kind of it kind of doesn't mean you feel good but it kind of makes sense that it would

[00:14:04] come back to bite him in the backside yeah yeah I don't know how to feel about the Sean Watson I mean

[00:14:14] yeah he just kind of needs to go away I guess I think he's on the way I think

[00:14:19] he's going to do about and then Kirk Cousins who I love Kirk Cousins but it was terrible

[00:14:26] performance when she came out and said too yeah he rusty coming back from what was it in Achilles

[00:14:32] I think that he's recovering from or something but Dallas how much of all of this is connected to

[00:14:39] all of those guys playing a preseason snap yeah I think you know that's it's something about

[00:14:47] just getting in there and having the confidence that you can play I mean they know they can play

[00:14:54] but you got to get some real time in that and they got it in the first game so I think Cousins is going

[00:15:00] to be fine I think it'll be just fine I think Aaron Rogers is going to be fine if they can keep

[00:15:05] standing up you know and I thought the judge's defense could have played better actually yeah

[00:15:13] a little better I'd surprise so we're a lot of judge fans yeah and like you have M defense

[00:15:20] like this is supposed to be the best in the country right they got shredded shredded by a team

[00:15:26] that reminds me a lot of them last year right as Texas team they really do they remind me a lot of

[00:15:33] balls been you know trying to stay somewhat connected to the Michigan Echo Chamber without getting

[00:15:41] into it right so you're you're kind of focusing on the kickers which is the highlight of our team right

[00:15:46] now yeah well okay so in my fantasy in my fantasy league I was playing against the guy who had Jake

[00:15:53] Rudy from the nine or straight and going into the money night game I was up by like 45 points

[00:16:02] so Jake Moody would have had to kick like eight field goals for me to lose that matchup

[00:16:10] and so I'm watching the game and I'm like okay that's one that's two that's three I think he ended

[00:16:16] up kicking six field goals in that game and I remember in the fourth quarter just being like

[00:16:23] there's no way there is no way and I just got thinking what's up with Michigan Kickers because

[00:16:28] one of the things that I saw from the Michigan Texas game was that they have a new guy who they're

[00:16:33] talking about like he's gonna be as good as Jake Moody some wondering where Michigan is under

[00:16:37] thing all these kickers from and what's the secret to that and this gentleman's from from

[00:16:44] overseas and I guess theoretically Sharon Moore did not sleep over his house to try and recruit him

[00:16:51] I don't know what what all led to him coming to Ann Arbor but that was you know that young man's a

[00:16:56] highlight you know Paul we just grow him tough in Ann Arbor in our kickers sometimes take people by

[00:17:02] surprise I'm gonna give Dallas a quick coin toss choice here between two things if you're you

[00:17:08] to be commissioner for a day are you going to change the NFL's playoff regular season playoff

[00:17:16] set up like we just benefited from or would you change the new kickoff rule if you could only do one

[00:17:24] is that one for me yeah that's you that's you yeah you know I would uh I think it's time to adjust

[00:17:31] the kickoff rule it's it's I love the experiment I do but clearly right already in week one

[00:17:40] everybody's just kicking it through the insults it will give you the 30 right so it's not it's not really

[00:17:46] so far creating activity you know then and well in the games I watch there was I don't I can't

[00:18:01] the average starting position is like four yards further forward it used to be the 26 yard line and

[00:18:07] now the average at least for week one was the 30 so it's like a whole lot of nothing right and so

[00:18:12] they were even talking on the the game tonight I was watching before we jumped on to record the

[00:18:17] bills in the dolphins they were talking about it's probably time to either say a touchback gets out to the

[00:18:23] 35 or they just got to back the kickers up another five yards to stop with all the kick

[00:18:29] out of the insons because what the fans want is to return right we don't want this long zone

[00:18:34] and all this other stuff and everything else but it's not like guys so the guys who are making

[00:18:39] the kickoff team you know I still want to show something right there are actual teams and they're just

[00:18:46] on the kickoff team well in the NFL has this bizarre dance with logic so we don't want the collisions

[00:18:54] of the 40 yard running start okay I'm good with that apparently college does by the way so we're

[00:19:00] okay with the kids getting their eggs crammedled but we don't want the big boys who are getting paid

[00:19:04] for it to do okay we can work on that later but so they don't want to high speed collisions

[00:19:11] they want the active returns they're getting neither and it's a waste of everybody's time you'd

[00:19:19] be better off after a school or to start the game much like they they change them in

[00:19:23] basketball there's not a jump ball every time you're to lose ball kind of thing now it's just alternating

[00:19:28] perception you might as well just set it at the 35 and start the drive yeah because it's just

[00:19:34] hard to watch and then it you know you turn on the college game and you're thinking wait those

[00:19:39] those young adult men are running into each other at a high rate of speed why isn't that a

[00:19:45] health concern at the college level is it because there's so many more on the roster we just

[00:19:50] have cannon fodder yeah it's it's a question that merits merits the discussion okay and so while

[00:19:58] we're on the topic bill is it just me or when you watch NFL football are you waiting for them to

[00:20:04] review the play for targeting like 27 times and they never do like in college all they do in the

[00:20:09] process they give the 15 year penalty and move on and I'm like oh my gosh and in college football

[00:20:14] that guy would be done he'd be susjid misses next game you know it would take us five minutes to make

[00:20:20] think that decision up in the booth and yaddi addi addi addi addi but it's it's just funny to me

[00:20:25] if it's dangerous at the collegial level wouldn't it also be dangerous at the pro level since college

[00:20:31] is serving as the minor leagues for the NFL you would think that they would somehow come together in

[00:20:37] a adopt a similar set of rules now that we have a two minute by the way not a two minute warning

[00:20:41] in college we have a two minute time out in college that's it's a vast difference it's very

[00:20:47] very different do not confuse the two in one of them you should be warned there is a warning taking

[00:20:53] place and then the other when it's simply a time out not for commercial purposes so I'm at the

[00:21:00] big house and in the in stadium experience other than the James Earl Jones hype video at the beginning

[00:21:07] rest in peace um everything else during a stoppage of play is a nightmareish long

[00:21:14] waste of everybody's time and you you realize it college because of all the money being shelved out

[00:21:19] now goes touchdown extra point three minute time out kick off three minute time out

[00:21:27] punt four minute time out oh my goodness it is a nightmare is viewing experience from inside the

[00:21:37] comedy better by the fact that your team is getting pummel but that's all the different discussion

[00:21:41] altogether it's just a ton of dead time if you're at the game in person yeah it's brutal okay so

[00:21:47] Dallas if you were going to be empowered with the changing of overtime in the NFL would you take

[00:21:54] it to the college version or would you do something different I actually like the NFL or time I know a

[00:22:01] lot of people don't um I like the last week such great yeah it was just fine no it'd be completely

[00:22:09] different I don't know my answer would be different because I've been pretty consistent on this

[00:22:13] I like to win they changed it to this you know and I just think it gives it gives the team a decision

[00:22:20] they got to make in many circumstances whether it just kick the field goal and try to play defense

[00:22:27] if they get stymied or you know go for it and try to score touchdown and end the game

[00:22:33] you know your your fourth and goal at the six what do you do you know

[00:22:40] yeah well you have to fill out a requisition form now to do an on-site kick

[00:22:45] so they're so sticking afraid of the kicking game in general it seems like it might be best

[00:22:51] to go away if nothing else well before we get a lot Dallas get out of here Paul we've got to

[00:22:55] get him in as our celebrity guest picker you know on on on game day it's a pretty big deal it

[00:23:03] comes through a ton of fans it comes off the bus you know course so has to move over a little bit

[00:23:10] here on church Pew sports he just gets his own zoom window we don't have any other

[00:23:14] pomp and circumstance so take him in yeah Dallas we were actually picking five games a week from the

[00:23:20] NCAA football season and the way we decided to do that this year with all of our guests on the show

[00:23:25] on the podcast is that we are not going to tell you anybody else's picks we're just going to make

[00:23:30] you fly blind and then we'll make funny you next week on the podcast if you do poorly so that's

[00:23:36] that's pretty much the plan so I got five games for you it's just need you to give us your picks the first

[00:23:39] game is number twenty Arizona is at number fourteen k-state who do you got yeah I'm going to go with

[00:23:50] k-state yeah is there any reason there is it just you know because Carson joined the

[00:23:56] zoom call and we know Carson weeds for k-state no I just always root against all Arizona

[00:24:05] isn't scientific but you general rule I'm not picking Arizona and anything all right second game we

[00:24:11] got is number four bama travel and two Wisconsin to play the badgers the SEC comes north

[00:24:18] Bama yeah Bama yep all right and then we got Notre Dame number eighteen Notre Dame unless it's

[00:24:26] dropped since their game this past weekend they're going to be playing Purdue at Purdue

[00:24:34] yeah I didn't pay attention to Purdue last week and and everybody knows what happened to Notre Dame

[00:24:41] we're still celebrating what yeah I'm going to say the Notre Dame figures something out this week

[00:24:47] and and beach Purdue all right there you go and one of the games I'm most looking forward to

[00:24:54] Colorado the deon experience is going to visit Colorado State for the big rivalry game

[00:25:02] what do you think's going to happen there I'm going with everybody state this week

[00:25:07] Colorado State actually think that's a good pick and then our last game for you to pick is

[00:25:13] just matters more in the SEC we got Texas A&M going to Florida

[00:25:18] yeah that's a man I just you know Texas A&M all right okay we have you on the record we'll be nice

[00:25:28] week if you underperform compared to everybody else and if you win the prizes are incredible

[00:25:35] I mean it's a good way although underperforming is one of my spiritual gifts

[00:25:42] was that actually on your resume at one time or no it was I was convinced that I should take it off

[00:25:49] but it was on there and that's part of it as part of the phenomenon it is good to have you with us man thank

[00:25:55] you so much for staying up and late and we'll do it again some time and you and I need to

[00:26:01] grab lunch at some point so let's do that all right you guys as Dallas says goodbye we welcome in

[00:26:09] young man who is with us a few weeks ago you may remember our conversation with ultra marathoner

[00:26:16] Carson Greenha and Carson welcome back good to see you again since the last time we spoke

[00:26:21] how many miles have you accumulated I know you're recovering a little bit from an injury

[00:26:27] yeah my dad turned 75 and the very next day we went and did six and six point one just just

[00:26:37] cause so that is a tribute to my dad my walking treadmill my desk I'm hint about 12 miles

[00:26:46] so slow and steady yeah good you can we do have Bill we do have a controversy we have to

[00:26:51] clear up before we get into talking football yesterday last time last time Carson was on the podcast

[00:26:57] I took a lot of grief from all of our mutual friends about the fact that Carson failed to tell us

[00:27:03] the story the time that he was on a run and he got lost and the reach students council guys

[00:27:10] from the EFCA who were like supporting him on this run had to save his baking so I would love for you

[00:27:16] just to tell us that story brother because the world deserves to know well it wasn't about me last week

[00:27:23] so but no this aspect was I'm running a race a hundred k you know 64 miles and it's a loop course

[00:27:32] and when you run out on trails it's like loosely marked okay so you'll get these flags you'll

[00:27:39] get these kind of ribbons tied to trees as confidence markers is what they call them and I hit

[00:27:45] a fork in the trail I missed the flags and I went off and you can follow people as they're

[00:27:52] running and my watch starts buzzing like I was getting texts to my garment watch I'm not sponsored

[00:28:00] by garment I just want to throw that out there for the listeners right now yeah yeah but yeah I

[00:28:08] started hitting his buzz and I went like a mile and a half off course and in ultra running like the

[00:28:16] rule of thumb is like I hit a point where I could see the trail okay and I could have run across

[00:28:23] got back on the trail but the rule is as you go back to where you left the trail

[00:28:29] and so I added a couple of miles onto my run on lap number two at this the bear chase here in

[00:28:39] Colorado completely my fault we don't confident the entire way with all the confidence markers in

[00:28:44] place or what was there no it hit about like three quarters of a mile and it's I'm like this

[00:28:49] this doesn't feel familiar and it was just the incestant buzzing and I hit the point where I hit

[00:28:56] this hill and I kind of like walk look around I walk a little bit I was like oh no there there it is and

[00:29:03] just yep it's not one of my finer moments. Carson you mentioned here in Colorado and yet as you

[00:29:09] come on to the podcast knowing we're talking NFL football I see a felkins jersey on you I don't

[00:29:14] know number two is that a Matt Ryan jersey I'm not sure it's very much Matt Ryan I would love a

[00:29:21] messy tugle jersey for anyone that wants to mail it to me he was like my kid hero the hammer play a

[00:29:27] middle linebacker but yes I think I'm a little bit of product of kids picking their sports teams

[00:29:34] via the internet really flash really wanting a starter jacket and my parents never buying it for me

[00:29:44] until they saw one for sale for $19. I was like you can't say price mom and dad so they got me the

[00:29:53] jacket it was red it was black it had a bird on the back this was fourth grade for me I didn't know

[00:30:00] I didn't care I wore that jacket rugged and one fall season someone like patting me on the shoulder

[00:30:06] and said your team's doing really good and I looked them dead in the eye and I was like yeah they are

[00:30:10] I didn't follow follow sports as a fourth grade so what team they were talking about I pulled out the

[00:30:18] witch-a-taugh eagle newspaper and I was like it's got to be a football team right

[00:30:22] because it didn't even say it on the jacket and so I'm looking through I don't maybe it's an eagle

[00:30:29] like what does a seahawk look like like okay cardinal it's got red in there and then went to

[00:30:36] so that is the loyalty of a fourth grader and here we are today that's the origin story for

[00:30:44] that jersey not like oh my great uncle my grandpa they grew up in Atlanta they would take me put

[00:30:50] me underneath and tell me stories about felcons of yesterday and it was it was literally a starter jacket

[00:30:57] I grew up in the chiefs kingdom whenever I tell that story to a saints fan they say yeah that's how

[00:31:05] Atlanta gets most of their fans so I love it and while you were regaling us with that very cool story

[00:31:13] Paul we're joined by two other guests who will kind of round out our line up tonight so I'm going to

[00:31:18] let you bring them in yeah what's up Brian and Shay it's good to have you guys on the show Brian

[00:31:25] Sharp has been here before and he's become a fast friend of mine in the EFCA so welcome back brother

[00:31:31] and I should let you introduce Shay because from what I understand you guys are actually watching the

[00:31:36] bills game in real time as we're sitting here if that's not the case I don't want to spoil it but I

[00:31:42] want to tell you that the bills are doing really well so welcome brother and introduce the guy

[00:31:49] sitting next to you I will do thanks for having me sitting next to me is my friend Shay is an older

[00:31:56] director but also an avid sports fan so excited to have Shay and yes we are watching the bill's

[00:32:02] game live so there you go okay Shay we do have a tradition at church Pew sports every time

[00:32:08] we have a first time guest we ask them the same question it's kind of our hazing ritual it's pretty

[00:32:14] time but here's the here's the question so that our listeners can get to know you just a little bit

[00:32:19] tell us who is your favorite sports team any sport any level doesn't matter high school college

[00:32:30] pro whatever they you follow in irrational ways that make others sports fans look at you and go what is wrong

[00:32:38] with that guy so are your irrational sports loyalty yeah Denver Broncos I've been a Broncos fan since

[00:32:47] I was about 10 years old I mean I'm definitely not a fair weather fan but I'm not so obsessed

[00:32:54] that when the Broncos are terrible I still root for them I still watch other games but I can turn off

[00:33:00] my passion a little bit it's like I know they're gonna lose I know they're gonna stink but

[00:33:05] I'm okay with that and so I have backup teams did I once I give up on the Broncos I'm like

[00:33:10] I can root for the bill as I can root for this team or that team teams actually have a chance

[00:33:15] going so much but I'm usually a Broncos fan that's also I have family in Denver and I think

[00:33:22] that's kind of as a general rule how most Broncos fans operate is that's kind of how colorado fans are

[00:33:30] in terms of so many transplants live here I mean whether it's the nuggets outland the Rockies

[00:33:36] haven't been good I don't know but Shay long time Shay when you get this kind of inspirational

[00:33:43] hype pump up message from your quarterback I don't know how you can't be running through

[00:33:50] wall for Russell Wilson I mean let's listen together well more time Broncos country let's ride

[00:33:55] Broncos country let's ride oh man Broncos country let's ride

[00:34:02] Broncos country let's ride this is good as a gets I mean who's got it better than us nobody

[00:34:08] you're in that's incredible and meanwhile Brian in my notes from Paul in parentheses after your name

[00:34:17] it says bills mafia now I have to think that much like in the military where there are different ranks

[00:34:24] you need to define for us what level of bills mafia are you in because if you're jumping off the

[00:34:31] top of an RV through an eight foot folding table we've got so many questions for you

[00:34:36] I have never jumped through a table I am not saying I wouldn't jump through a table if it was offered

[00:34:43] and the right situation but I'm a I'm a pretty big fan I'm sitting here I have a key chain with

[00:34:54] bill stuff on it sure with bill stuff on it like I think in case I think my wallet so I'm a pretty

[00:35:04] pretty active member in bill's mafia I can see a lot of content so sometimes after a

[00:35:10] pen it's for um idol worship those fans are our known bills mafia are known for

[00:35:19] consuming a lot of content especially at the games and I'm just meeting these guys Paul but I

[00:35:28] thought it was very clever of you to kind of sneak the hidden microphone into Brian's world as he was

[00:35:35] giving a statement about the support to love in the prioritization of family over football here it is

[00:35:45] stupid football where they just throw a little stupid little pixigan around is for babies and not men

[00:35:52] I want to spend all my time with my beautiful lovely amazing wife and hand cute son

[00:36:00] because they're the most important to me not not stupid little football is that okay?

[00:36:08] So well done Paul I mean that's that's the kind of audio we're looking for here on the

[00:36:12] middle godcast that didn't sound like Brian at all

[00:36:15] I think that's probably okay so Shane I have to ask you I probably should tell you I'm a bit

[00:36:23] of a god questions fanboy um I love godquestions.org I have I've sent I don't know how many people

[00:36:34] to your website I'd back up Shane you are the founder of godquestions.org yes correct yes I like that

[00:36:45] wow and that is so amazing the last for those of you that don't know godquestions is this

[00:36:50] I should probably let you explain it godquestions is this website that you can go to and ask just about any

[00:36:54] question you have about spiritual matters or whatever I remember at the last church I was

[00:37:00] working at we got into a very deep conversation at our elder level at the elder board level about

[00:37:08] cheap grace versus lordship salvation and sure enough I go to godquestions I'm sitting in the

[00:37:15] fire that up in there and I and there's all this great all these great resources

[00:37:20] and everything else tell us can you take a moment and indulge me at least and tell us and tell

[00:37:24] our listeners about where the idea came from for godquestions how that came about how that happened

[00:37:33] and because I just think it's phenomenal I just think the as a resource for young believers from

[00:37:39] a tour believers it's phenomenal so I'm I just would love to hear a little bit of the backstory

[00:37:43] about how I came about yes sure thank you Paul you know I hear that story a lot from

[00:37:50] I've had a few half stories to fact it can confess that they plagiarized from godquestions

[00:37:56] and their sermons but if that question is this helping pastoral teams solve arguments I think

[00:38:03] that's fantastic use so my personal testimony I came to faith in Christ and my late teens and

[00:38:11] asking the person who was sharing the gospel with me a bunch of questions was a big part of my

[00:38:16] story so I find it somewhat ironic that that's what god gave me to do I maybe asked too many

[00:38:21] questions and now god's punishing slash blessing me with the same responsibility but I went to

[00:38:29] Bible College and seminary knowing that god was calling me in a full-time ministry but also feeling

[00:38:36] and I don't know pastoral ministry or youth ministry worship ministry none of those seem like

[00:38:41] a really good fit for me but now looking back all the classes I took all the training

[00:38:46] was perfect preparation just the mission field he was calling me to didn't exist yet so

[00:38:52] my life Melissa and I lost got questions in February of 2002 truly thinking this will be a cool little

[00:38:59] hobby that we do until god calls us to a real ministry and it turns out this was the real

[00:39:05] ministry god was calling us to it just took some time for it to grow but within two and a few

[00:39:13] years after we launched it it had grown to the point where funding was coming in and

[00:39:19] was able to start doing it full-time and so last 20 years as watching god take truly what we thought

[00:39:25] would be hobby and exploring it into one of the most frequently visited Christian websites in the world

[00:39:31] has to get an idea last month we had 16 million visitors to the website wow one month which

[00:39:40] would you blow my mind that's mind blowing to me it's Shane I appreciate you telling Paul earlier

[00:39:47] that what you'd like to do is embed the weekly episode of church Pew sports on the main landing page

[00:39:55] of god questions I wouldn't have asked for that but I thought it was really good of Paul to do so

[00:40:00] and thank you for for doing that that's a conversation we can have no promises there

[00:40:11] well it is I mean what we try to do on the podcast of course we try to laugh a lot we're trying to

[00:40:17] connect sports to life and faith and our hope is that as people find us listen to us or the links

[00:40:24] are spread around that it would often include people who are searching and people who are

[00:40:28] they love sports but they're also wondering what more is there to this life and what a wonderful

[00:40:34] resource to be able to point them to got questions.org so there there it is folks that's one of the

[00:40:41] primary reasons that we every week gather for for church Pew sports now I'm going to bring us back

[00:40:47] into the football realm because Paul's got some questions for the three of you just kind of dealing with

[00:40:53] what's happening in the game these days and you know Carson I think we had a guest down before

[00:41:00] the three of you we asked him a couple questions about some rule changes that he might

[00:41:05] kick in if he were the commissioner so Paul why don't you take it from there and see what the

[00:41:10] voice think yeah we were we we would love to hear what you guys think about the new kick off

[00:41:15] really we talked about this a little bit with Dallas our prior guest we'd love to know what you

[00:41:20] think of the new NFL kickoff rule and the massive impact that's having on the appeal

[00:41:27] of the game to fans. I guess last time I now employ research department ready to go big

[00:41:35] from 2023 to 2024 there was a 14% increase in returns one for a touchdown last year

[00:41:47] season there was only four kickoffs return for a touchdown and every time a kickoff came up I

[00:41:54] about fell asleep I know a statistician is probably thinking this is great 14% but I mean the games

[00:42:03] I watched it kind of felt like a snooze fest and so I think they're going to have to move that

[00:42:09] ball out a little bit further to encourage kickers to kick it to like the five or the 10 so

[00:42:16] they're actually going to return it but that's what I got. I love it like I couldn't wait till the first

[00:42:25] game I wanted to watch the game just so I could watch the opening kickoff because I wanted to see how

[00:42:30] was handled and my team was the team they got the touchdown run back on thanks Carson and I appreciate you

[00:42:42] so I actually think it adds to the game and I agree I think next year they're going to change

[00:42:46] the rule to if it goes in the end zone it goes back to the out to the 40 and I think that'll

[00:42:52] deter a lot of teams but yeah I think it's great move and I think anything you can do to make

[00:42:57] there be more action I think that's helpful. Whether the ball coming out to the 40 or whether

[00:43:05] moving the kicker back some right now I mean I think after that kickoff return for touchdown

[00:43:11] everyone now is booting it out the back of the end zone like they used to so it's not adding much to

[00:43:18] the game but I think in terms of like safety you can tell players not having 50 yards or

[00:43:24] unfilts speed clatter with each other there's I think that's a good addition to it no one like seeing

[00:43:30] players injured on kickoff returns or anything for that reason but I think it's got potential

[00:43:36] but it needs to be tweaked a little bit to introduce a little more action to it.

[00:43:41] In the game that I'm watching right now I heard one of the podcasts are telling me that

[00:43:46] the dolphins were putting Tyre Killback there like if Tyre gets you know I'll clean it feel

[00:43:51] cleans it feel that it feels cleanly we're with us and then has you know 10 yards to get

[00:43:59] in your own way like done the dolphins are golden at that point so I think it adds some

[00:44:05] intrigue to the game. Does anybody in the group share my curiosity for why the absence of

[00:44:12] collisions is important to the NFL but not to the NCAA on the young people heal faster.

[00:44:20] It's a bottle. I'd still heal faster than 30 year olds. She I got questions.

[00:44:27] So I'll just say maybe answers just maybe add a sports tab onto the website and we could do a

[00:44:33] gut I'm trying it all I'm trying my best. If Carson and I were to run full speed into each other

[00:44:38] we I'm sure we both get hurt but he's again decade or two younger than me so I'm sure he would bounce

[00:44:45] back faster. That's not true he hurts himself gardening right yeah I was like I'd probably break a

[00:44:52] hip in that situation you never know. Yeah I think Carson's goal is to always leave every podcast

[00:44:58] episode that he's on with an untold story. It was a streak. In-tree, creating intrigue okay so

[00:45:05] I was telling Bill earlier that I was really intrigued by all the quarterbacks in week one so

[00:45:11] you know I understand your Denver fan and I know you guys miss Russell Wilson terribly

[00:45:18] in Denver like we talked about. One more time around goes country let's ride.

[00:45:22] Broncos country let's ride okay so my question is well it's it's the whole

[00:45:29] the overreactions related to the rookie quarterbacks in week one right there's Caleb Williams from

[00:45:35] from my Chicago Bears there's Jay and Daniels from the Redskins what do you think of

[00:45:39] Nick's his performance in week one and do you think he's the long-term answer.

[00:45:44] You know I watched I think all of the preseason games where

[00:45:49] bonics was playing watch the first game against the seahawks and you could definitely tell the

[00:45:56] difference of him playing against the team's second string and the playing gets a starting defense

[00:46:05] but he looked at I'm just to use okay we're watching a Bill's game Josh Allen was terrible

[00:46:12] basically his entire first season it throwing who's good at running but he was not a great

[00:46:18] quarterback. I'm not comparing bonics to Josh and I was saying bonics can become the next

[00:46:24] Josh Allen but I don't think you definitely can't gates one game. Yeah but too much

[00:46:31] I mean I I hope he's the end to the quarterback hairstyle going on a Denver for the last

[00:46:39] ever since manning retired but I I'm hopeful but one game we he he didn't look great

[00:46:47] but he didn't look I don't know more terrible than some other rookie quarterbacks starting their first

[00:46:53] game in the NFL my other then CJ Stroud last year I don't remember the last time I saw

[00:46:58] rookie quarterback who actually looked like a long time starter that's a really really good

[00:47:04] point yeah like hypothetically speaking my Chicago Bears had the number one pick I mean

[00:47:10] read a cup and he had a great first game let me read a couple of stat lines for you guys they're all

[00:47:15] inspiring right Caleb Williams 14 for 29 93 yards no touchdowns no picks 22.2 quarterback rating

[00:47:24] all right so there's that uh bonics 26 of 42 for 138 yards no touchdowns two picks 30.1

[00:47:34] QBR and then Jane Daniels the one who I think arguably of the three of the the big rookie

[00:47:39] quarterbacks you could say maybe had a game right 17 for 24 184 yards no touchdowns no picks 41.9

[00:47:48] percent quarterback rating I think if I remember right Daniels had to rushing touchdowns though so he

[00:47:53] did some stuff on the ground none of those guys littered up are any of them going to be like the

[00:47:58] next Zach Wilson who I think is one of your other KB options in Denver if I remember right and any

[00:48:04] of those guys going to be a boss so you think it's way too early on all of them. That's I'd say way too

[00:48:10] early um and don't forget bonics did have a rushing touchdown as well okay you know it's hard to

[00:48:19] because I would say Denver and Washington seemed like they don't have the weapons around their quarterback

[00:48:25] and so I think that that's you'd say it's a little bit of a mark against Caleb Williams I did the again my

[00:48:30] stat department uh if Caleb Williams continues he will hit 1581 yards for you betting out there

[00:48:39] I'd take the over I think he'll obviously begin to do better but um it seems like the weather is

[00:48:46] really mean kind of thing no for the season yeah well theoretically that would be his career as well so far

[00:48:53] yes that is and that'd be the best bears quarterback for the past decade buzzer at least

[00:49:00] sense of you man raises it. So that's what I wonder I look at the weapons surrounding the quarterback

[00:49:07] and wondering just what piece that plays in this whole puzzle I was talking with a college coach

[00:49:13] about the speed of the game and even when they see kids come into college it's a different speed

[00:49:18] that it wasn't high school obviously the NFL is the ultimate in speed and where everybody is

[00:49:24] really really good even if we fans don't always think so and there is just no way to emulate or replicate

[00:49:34] game speed you can't do it in the preseason you certainly can't do it in practice where nobody gets

[00:49:38] hit the quarterback and so it's understandable I think that a guy fresh out of the rapper comes in

[00:49:45] and all of a sudden finds well there was no defender there in practice well that's because this guy

[00:49:50] was reading your eyes and he was all over it because he's been playing in the league for seven years

[00:49:55] and we're seeing you'll see the inexperience I think come through until they can slow the game down

[00:50:03] luckily for the bears they scored twice on defense once on special teams and and bailed everything out

[00:50:10] I don't think there's I don't know that you'll be too much concerned about about Caleb

[00:50:15] if he's halfway through the season it's still throwing for a buck 22 that's going to be a little

[00:50:20] bit of a problem but just like Carson said it kind of depends on his surroundings and what they have

[00:50:26] what other pieces they have on offense including by the way the bears offensive line brutal

[00:50:31] well I agree but I disagree too because like using Josh Allen as the example Josh Allen

[00:50:36] had to redo all of his mechanics yeah and so some of it's on how much do these guys want it

[00:50:43] are they willing to go to the extent of redoing everything if that's the problem and I don't

[00:50:48] don't know their mechanical issues or not but like there's people that want to win and care

[00:50:54] and are going to do everything it takes and there's people that enjoy the check

[00:50:57] Brian you'd be thrilled to know that sitting directly behind me at the Michigan game on

[00:51:03] Saturday was a quarterback mechanics expert oh yeah it is on mind he was just shouting at the

[00:51:12] quarterback everything that he was doing wrong and then he was loudly proclaiming it to the people

[00:51:17] around him his footwork and his timing and his day and in I turned around and I didn't say anything

[00:51:23] I just wanted to kind of take a visual assessment of this just bellachick behind I thought

[00:51:29] maybe it was bellachick turns out it wasn't I was like you say why would you say you might not

[00:51:33] have said anything what were you saying in your own mind now you're incorrect you're you're just

[00:51:39] a complete in the soul who wants people to think that you're smart so how about we just keep it

[00:51:45] ourselves just think those quiet thoughts and keep them inside because not claiming to have

[00:51:54] coached a lot of football been around the game a long time a broadcast that I studied he was just

[00:51:59] incorrect not that it was a great performance from the quarterback but there are so many experts in

[00:52:04] the stands I don't know if it's it must be you know it must be a little bit like being a pastor

[00:52:09] and there are so many experts out there in the in the in the sanctuary who you know are

[00:52:15] picking apart what you're saying but they've never stepped into the arena they're just trying to impress

[00:52:19] their friends so that's probably the last time that I'll compare a drunken fan to a pastor on the podcast

[00:52:26] but it's just what popped into my mind sorry yeah I get you okay and might not have had anything to do with

[00:52:33] how the game was going there's pretty ugly yeah okay so here's my last question

[00:52:39] we are mid west guys building myself so we've been embroiled in the home Michigan

[00:52:45] science ceiling scandal battle with the NCAA and all that other stuff you guys are west coast

[00:52:51] ish guys I'd love to hear your impressions of Jim Harbaugh as an NFL coach in his debut

[00:53:00] with LA I don't know I don't know that I have much outside of he's just a weird dude and his

[00:53:08] teams general they're going to be good they're going to run the ball I'm thankful because that

[00:53:11] I've wanted their running backs on my fantasy team so just keep running the ball it's great

[00:53:16] but he's just when you watch his interviews or you watch him after the game there's like

[00:53:21] I don't know how you got a job you're weird it's weird can't argue with that you're not wrong

[00:53:30] they're here in that wrong and he was the with the coach for the 49ers back in the day

[00:53:37] him he lost to his brother super well which should you imagine the family trash stocket

[00:53:42] Thanksgiving when that happens but so it's not like he's a rookie in a fellow coach but

[00:53:48] I imagine he'll be more successful than he have the recent charger coaches because

[00:53:52] he does coach are pretty solid team but um I mean they play in the same division with the

[00:54:01] deal with the chiefs and Patrick Bholms for the next 10 to 15 years so

[00:54:07] I can't imagine them supplanting the chiefs anytime soon

[00:54:11] you know I'm at hog heaven

[00:54:16] you got a dial down the harboss on bites and it's probably time for us to take D on out of it now

[00:54:22] then I'll on it let's it's probably time for us to take D on out of the intro to this point just so

[00:54:26] you know in your honor that that was not loaded in beforehand I went and got that while these

[00:54:31] guys were talking I dug it out of the archives just so we could hear and I'm at hog heaven a

[00:54:35] little bit of coach harboss so it's he's in hog heaven out there he's taking all of our coaching

[00:54:40] staff with him so he's in hog heaven alright let's give everybody a chance to blow off a little

[00:54:46] steam in our segment called holy disc content

[00:54:59] a lot of problems with you people now you're gonna hear about it's time for holy disc content

[00:55:07] Paul will let you kick things off we'll go around the horn and then to Carson and then to Brian

[00:55:12] and then to Shay and I'll bring up the rear okay my holy disc content is time to the dispute

[00:55:21] between direct TV and Disney I'm kind of again a weave this together with our headlines of the week

[00:55:29] so I'm gonna read for actual headlines to you guys about what's been going on there and

[00:55:36] this is just amazing to me for actual headlines from this past week direct TV rejects

[00:55:42] Disney offer to restore ABC news tonight only for the protest debate okay that's one direct TV is now

[00:55:48] paying customers to subscribe to competitors as Disney battle escalates okay how to watch the 49ers

[00:55:56] is a jets on my uniform all amid the direct TV Disney dispute and this is my favorite direct

[00:56:01] TV raising prices amid ESPN ABC Disney blackout okay so never mind the fact that you have to

[00:56:08] subscribe to let's let's count on peacock Amazon Prime Sunday ticket if you're doing fantasy football

[00:56:17] all the things to make sure you can watch all the games but now direct TV and Disney can't settle

[00:56:23] stuff and it just keeps dominating headlines I can't have and done with that that's my only

[00:56:32] disc content good one Carson yeah i know a lot of NFL fans were annoyed to see one of the games

[00:56:41] played in Brazil and like why do we keep expanding to these other cities you know outside of the

[00:56:48] there's another expansion taking place that needs to stop immediately yes it is the out new

[00:56:57] movie coming out November 30th starring your very own Kansas City Chiefs on the hallmark channel oh

[00:57:05] yes sir you you heard that correctly the hallmark channel I can't remember I can't even remember

[00:57:12] what the name of the movie was it was like holiday you remember Bill no I tried to just erase it

[00:57:21] like met in black I tried to erase it for my mind while I was grabbing the sound bite that we

[00:57:25] want everybody to hear because yeah this is a bridge too far my friends it is it just shouldn't happen

[00:57:32] expand to cities the chief should not be on a hallmark movie I know Andy Reed might

[00:57:42] be the next Daniel Day Lewis of the coaching field like I think that's an interesting question like

[00:57:49] if you're NFL coach played a role in a movie what would that role be or what movie would they be in

[00:57:55] that would be a fun exercise Andy Reed top top five of all NFL coaches like he was he was made

[00:58:02] for TV not just coaching football but this needs to stop it was said that it will not be following

[00:58:12] the Kelsey Taylor Swift love story so for those of you wondering that is not the plot of the movie

[00:58:20] that the hallmark channel is putting out so that is my holy disc and tip well I had with

[00:58:26] everybody so deeply intrigued now after that great promotional announcement here's here's a clip

[00:58:32] we made a big announcement last week for the highly anticipated motion picture holiday movie called

[00:58:39] holiday touchdown a chief's love story it will mark Jenna Bush hey girls movie debut

[00:58:47] coach Reed you're used to coaching players on the field you're going to coach me in this

[00:58:52] performance we'll give you this play we'll do like this number 87 right here okay and then we're going

[00:58:56] to put 13 right there number 13 she's a sweetheart and we're gonna ask you to I think the best part of

[00:59:01] that clip was hearing the words highly anticipated Brian what your holy disc intense

[00:59:07] I was looking through a certain website and saw that four former Wolverine players

[00:59:16] are suing for NL money and I'm just like if this goes through like the floodgates

[00:59:26] are gonna open up like the lawsuits it's just gonna be unbelievable and I don't know I'm just tired of

[00:59:33] that now stuff and I agree you guys have talked about this on this podcast that they need to figure it out

[00:59:40] it's the wild west right now but it's that's just terror yeah and it will go all the way back

[00:59:45] to the fab five if this case goes anywhere because they really were the pioneers of merchandise in

[00:59:52] their names and so but they're not the ones in this lawsuit but yeah shake what do you got so

[00:59:59] I've been tuned into your show before all right I will starting now but I'm guessing that

[01:00:05] making fun of Russell Wilson is something that happens fairly frequently no really I was truly looking

[01:00:13] forward to seeing Wilson play against the rock-oast this coming Sunday and it sounds like that's

[01:00:18] not gonna happen because I'm just truly curious with how much of the problem he truly was

[01:00:24] for the past two years how much was a bad coaching the first year or bad fit the second year I really

[01:00:30] want to see him play for the seeers is he still the guy he was in Seattle or is he the guy we've

[01:00:38] seen the last two years and I've suspected salar but it's not getting to see him play against the

[01:00:43] Broncos is a pretty disappointing because I think he would really want to win that game and

[01:00:48] the Broncos would really want to win that game as well so disappointing to not get to see it

[01:00:53] yeah good stuff and by the way we don't we I don't think we've mentioned Russell Wilson on this program

[01:00:58] in three years but tonight's a special night so it's but we just like us to have let's ride

[01:01:04] start to show up in that probably well yeah that's gonna be in the opening probably to replace a

[01:01:09] harbours and we'll probably be let's ride my holy discontent I'm actually going to just

[01:01:14] jump ahead and combine it because we're running a little long so I'm going to go to my that guy

[01:01:19] that's a segment that we have on the show where we kind of sing the praises of somebody that's

[01:01:24] doing it really well and my that guy is a pair of guys who are on the microphone from northern

[01:01:31] Illinois University calling the final moments of the upset of the year and upset of the last few

[01:01:40] years the win over Notre Dame five seconds left and I u up 16 14 62 yarder snap hole

[01:01:49] cheaters kick this block it's like a big cup by an huskies has done it the huskies with the biggest upset

[01:01:59] and are you history they come to South many of the era and they knock off the number five team in

[01:02:06] country and I you 16 Notre Dame 14 the football gods were shining down on an I you

[01:02:16] hey man when you can do it live it up and have fun it shows some enthusiasm so well done by those

[01:02:23] guys we're gonna jump ahead now to the to the finale our three minute message I think

[01:02:28] Brian's bringing us home home or I'd like you to remember Matthew 7 26

[01:02:35] no foolish man who built his house on sound and you remember Matthew 21 17

[01:02:45] and he left them and went out of the city into Bethany and he lodged there yeah think about it

[01:02:54] all right Brian with that introduction it's all yours yeah I was I was watching Monday night's

[01:03:00] and I don't care about the 49ers I just had Christmas cap for you on my fantasy football

[01:03:08] and found out you know a little bit before the game that he wasn't gonna play so I still won

[01:03:14] but after watching the game I was watching the interview and Jordan Mason got on there and I

[01:03:18] I think we have the clip of him but I just I thought that what he said was just a good reminder

[01:03:24] for all of us we saw you hugging your mom pre-game what does it mean to just to have this kind

[01:03:31] of performance with what's family in the building yeah family every night to me god first family

[01:03:37] most definitely oh suit oh suit that's what I mean yeah so I like to focus like he here he is

[01:03:51] you don't know if he's gonna ever get this shot again and so just the the reality

[01:03:55] you say hey god first then family and it's this idea of all of us need to put things in the proper

[01:04:02] place proper perspective and you know for me the bills are on for the next 18 weeks or so you know

[01:04:10] my my nicks are top four and the in the east my mets are in a playoff push my savers are

[01:04:18] open to you get out of a playoff drought and I could watch a game probably almost every night of the

[01:04:25] week and just put sports above everything so I just think it's important for us you know the

[01:04:31] Bible says you know love the Lord your god with all your heart slow mind and strength then

[01:04:35] and love others as yourself and so when we think about it let's put things in live when

[01:04:40] right perspective god first other second and then third us and it's just important to put

[01:04:48] it can't become the main thing of our life because if they do it it's out of balance so I just

[01:04:54] want to encourage us that the start of this football season to put the main thing the main thing

[01:04:58] and god first others nacks us you know after that yeah good thought well said and really appreciate

[01:05:05] that thank you guys all of you Carson and Brian and Shay so good to have you all the program

[01:05:11] and for Brian to be willing to interrupt the the viewing of his beloved bills might fire him up enough

[01:05:20] to take a dive through it nearby table if that happens we would like video of it Brian so

[01:05:26] I've not just the table for him she is busy setting up the table I love it guys thank you so much

[01:05:32] into all of you for listening thank you to Dr. Dallas Gatland who was with us earlier as well
