[00:01:00] And now here's Elgin.
[00:01:02] President Sisters, I welcome you in the name of Yeshua Hamashiyah to another episode of
[00:01:10] Words of Inspiration where we explore God's Word as it guides us through the challenges
[00:01:18] and demands of life.
[00:01:21] And today we are going to discuss You Need to Get Some Rest.
[00:01:28] Our inspiration comes from Mark Chapter 6, Verse 31 and reading from the Complete Jewish
[00:01:37] Bible it reads,
[00:01:40] There were so many people coming and going that they didn't even take time to eat.
[00:01:45] He said to them, Come with me by yourself to a lonely place and get some rest.
[00:01:54] It's a simple but powerful reminder that even when the demands of life are piling up, rest
[00:02:00] is not just a luxury.
[00:02:03] It's a necessity.
[00:02:05] Today we'll talk about why we can't accomplish the fullness of our purpose if we don't
[00:02:11] take time to rest, renew and replenish ourselves.
[00:02:16] In this passage we find Jesus and his disciples in the middle of their ministry.
[00:02:22] They were busy, constantly surrounded by people and overwhelmed with tasks.
[00:02:29] Sound familiar?
[00:02:31] For many of us that's exactly how life feels.
[00:02:35] Pack schedules, responsibilities and a never ending to-do list.
[00:02:40] It's easy to get caught up in all of this thinking we need to keep going and push through.
[00:02:47] But here's Jesus telling his disciples to step away, to come with him to a quiet place
[00:02:55] and rest.
[00:02:57] This first speaks volumes about the importance of rest.
[00:03:01] Not just physical rest but the kind of rest that renews your spirit and restores
[00:03:06] your strength.
[00:03:08] Let's break this down and talk about why rest is critical if we want to live out our purpose
[00:03:14] fully.
[00:03:17] First, it's important to understand that rest isn't just a suggestion.
[00:03:23] It's a divine principle.
[00:03:25] From the very beginning God established the rhythm of work and rest.
[00:03:31] In Genesis 2 verses 2 through 3, after creating the world, God himself rested.
[00:03:40] Not because he was tired but to set a pattern for us.
[00:03:46] If God in all his power took time to rest, how much more do we need to?
[00:03:53] Jesus modeled this as well.
[00:03:56] Even though he was fully aware of the demands of his ministry and the needs of his people,
[00:04:02] he didn't operate in a state of constant exhaustion.
[00:04:05] Instead, he regularly withdrew to quiet places to pray, reflect and rest.
[00:04:13] It wasn't just about taking a break.
[00:04:16] It was about renewing his strength for what lay ahead.
[00:04:20] The second point is that rest is necessary for renewal.
[00:04:26] You can't pour from an empty cup.
[00:04:29] When you're constantly running on fumes, not only do you suffer, but the people and work
[00:04:36] you're responsible for suffers too.
[00:04:40] Isaiah 40 verse 31 reminds us,
[00:04:44] But those who hope in their Lord will renew their strength.
[00:04:48] They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary.
[00:04:54] They will walk and not be faint.
[00:04:57] Renewal comes from taking time to be still before God, allowing him to replenish you.
[00:05:04] This is what Jesus was offering his disciples in Mark 6 and 31.
[00:05:09] Not just rest but renewal.
[00:05:12] When we ignore this need, we may be able to keep going for a while, but eventually burnout catches up.
[00:05:20] We lose focus, we lose joy and our productivity declines.
[00:05:26] Taking intentional time to rest and to renew is not a sign of weakness.
[00:05:32] It's a sign of wisdom.
[00:05:35] Finally, rest prepares us for the work that God has called us to do.
[00:05:40] The demands of life will never stop.
[00:05:43] But if we're constantly drained, we can't fully live out our purpose.
[00:05:49] We need time to step back, reflect and recharge so that we can give our best to what God has called us to do.
[00:05:58] When Jesus told his disciples to rest, it wasn't because the work wasn't important.
[00:06:05] It was because the work WAS important.
[00:06:09] He knew in order for them to be effective, they needed to take time to replenish their bodies, minds and spirits.
[00:06:17] In the same way, we need to take time to rest so that we can fulfill the unique purpose God has given each of us.
[00:06:27] Matthew 11 verse 28, reading from the New International Version, gives us a beautiful invitation from Jesus.
[00:06:37] Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
[00:06:44] This rest is not just physical but emotional and spiritual.
[00:06:49] When we take time to rest in God's presence, He renews our strength and equips us for what lies ahead.
[00:06:59] So brothers and sisters, are you making time for rest?
[00:07:04] Not just collapsing at the end of a busy day, but truly resting, renewing and allowing God to replenish you.
[00:07:13] Remember, you can't fulfill the fullness of your purpose if you're constantly running unempty.
[00:07:20] Jesus invites you to step away from the busyness, to come with Him to a quiet place and get some rest.
[00:07:28] It's not a sign of weakness, it's a necessary part of living a healthy, fruitful and purposeful life.
[00:07:36] Stay grounded in His Word and remember, you need to get some rest.
[00:07:42] I thank you for spending time with me on today, and I look forward to our conversation on tomorrow. Until then, God bless.
[00:08:42] We'll see you next time.
