The answer is simple: we go to church because we need each other. Life is hard, but God has given us the gift of community to help us through it. The church is a place of love, support, growth, and purpose. It’s where we meet God together and strengthen one another for the journey ahead.
[00:00:37] Welcome to The Bible Speaks with your host Elgin Carelock. The Bible Speaks is a daily
[00:00:44] podcast dedicated to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, rightly dividing the word
[00:00:50] of truth and learning how to apply it to our daily lives. You may contact Elgin at the address
[00:00:57] given at the end of the broadcast. And now here's Elgin.
[00:01:02] Brothers and sisters, I welcome you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of
[00:01:08] the Holy Spirit to another episode of Words of Inspiration. And today we're exploring a
[00:01:16] vital question for believers. Why do we go to church? Our inspiration comes from
[00:01:24] Ecclesiastes 4 verses 9 through 10. And reading from the New Living Translation it reads,
[00:01:47] This verse highlights the importance of community, a principle that lies at the heart of why we
[00:01:53] gather as the body of Christ. During COVID-19, we experienced the isolation of being unable to
[00:02:01] meet in person. And while virtual services provide a spiritual nourishment, many of us have drifted from
[00:02:08] the powerful benefit of assembling together. So today we're going to rediscover the purpose and blessings
[00:02:15] of coming together as one body of believers. Let's start with the foundation of why we gather.
[00:02:23] Community. Ecclesiastes 4 verses 9 through 10 reminds us that life is not meant to be lived alone.
[00:02:31] We're stronger, more resilient, and more effective when we're connected with each other.
[00:02:36] This is especially true in the church. During COVID-19, many of us adapted to virtual services.
[00:02:45] While these online gatherings kept us connected to God's Word, they often lacked a relational depth
[00:02:52] that comes from being physically present with one another. When we gather in person, we experience the
[00:02:59] richness of shared worship, mutual encouragement, and real-time support. Hebrews 10 verses 24 through 25,
[00:03:10] reading from the New Living Translation, emphasizes,
[00:03:14] Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect
[00:03:22] our meeting together as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his
[00:03:30] return is drawing near. Coming together as a church body is not just a tradition, it's a biblical mandate
[00:03:37] for our growth and well-being. Life is full of challenges, and the enemy often uses isolation to magnify our
[00:03:46] struggles. When we're apart, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by doubt, anxiety, or fear. But as Ecclesiastes 4 and 10
[00:03:57] reminds us, when one of us falls, others can lift us up. The church is a place where we can share our burdens,
[00:04:07] receive prayer, and find encouragement, whether it's through a small group, a Sunday school class,
[00:04:13] or a conversation in the sanctuary. Being surrounded by fellow believers reminds us that we're not alone.
[00:04:22] Galatians 6 and 2 calls us to carry each other's burden, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
[00:04:32] When we come together, we become God's hands and feet, helping one another navigate through life's
[00:04:38] difficulties. One of the primary purposes of church is to grow together in our knowledge of God.
[00:04:46] While personal study is essential, there's something powerful about gathering as a group
[00:04:51] to hear the word preached, discussed, and applied to our lives. Acts 2 and 42, reading from the New Living
[00:05:01] translation, gives us a glimpse of the early church. All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching,
[00:05:10] and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals, including the Lord's Supper, and to prayer. The early believers didn't just
[00:05:19] meet to worship, they meant to learn, share, and grow. When we come together in church, we're building a foundation of
[00:05:28] faith that equips us to live out God's purpose in our daily lives. Another beautiful aspect of church is the
[00:05:36] opportunity to share testimonies. Hearing how God is working in the lives of others can inspire and strengthen our
[00:05:44] faith. It reminds us that God is active and faithful, even in the midst of our own struggles.
[00:05:52] Revelation 12 and 11, reading from the New International Version says,
[00:05:57] They triumphed over him by the blood of the lamb and by the word of their testimony.
[00:06:03] When we come together, we're not just spectators. We participate in a community that celebrates God's
[00:06:10] goodness and encourages one another through shared experiences. Finally, church is where we prepare to
[00:06:19] take the gospel into the world. As members of one body, we have a collective responsibility to expand God's
[00:06:26] kingdom. When we gather, we're not just receiving, we're being equipped to serve. Ephesians 4 verses 11
[00:06:35] through 12 says, Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church, the apostles, the prophets,
[00:06:42] the evangelists, and the pastors, and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God's people to do his work
[00:06:50] and build up the church, the body of Christ. The church is a training ground where we learn to use our
[00:06:58] spiritual gifts, grow in our calling, and impact society for Christ. As we reflect on the isolation many of us
[00:07:09] our spiritual gifts that we have experienced during COVID-19, let's remember the joy of being together in
[00:07:14] God's presence. Churches where we worship God as one body, strengthen our relationships with one another,
[00:07:22] grow in faith through teaching and fellowship, and share testimonies that inspire and encourage.
[00:07:29] Every time we gather, we're reminded of the truth in Matthew 18 20. For where two or three gather in my name,
[00:07:39] there I am with them. Brothers and sisters, the answer is simple. We go to church because we need each
[00:07:47] other. Life is hard, but God has given us the gift of community to help us through it. The church is a place
[00:07:55] of love, support, growth, and purpose. It's where we meet God together and strengthen one another for the journey ahead.
[00:08:05] If you've been away from church, let this be an invitation to come back, reconnect with your spiritual family,
[00:08:12] and rediscover the blessings of gathering as one body in Christ.
[00:08:18] I thank you for spending time with me on today. I hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend,
[00:08:25] and I look forward to our conversation on Sunday. Until then, God bless.
