Remember that being salt and light is both a privilege and a responsibility. Isaiah 60:1-3 calls us to arise and shine because God’s glory has risen upon us. Through our actions, words, and faith, we can bring hope to a dark world and inspire others to follow Christ.

[00:00:59] And now, here's Elgin.
[00:01:02] Brothers and Sisters, I welcome you in the name of Yeshua HaMashiach
[00:01:06] to another episode of Words of Inspiration.
[00:01:11] And today we continue our series, Children of the Light,
[00:01:16] with an episode titled, Salt and Light.
[00:01:21] Our inspiration comes from Isaiah 60, verses 1-3,
[00:01:26] and reading from the English Standard Version it reads,
[00:01:29] Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
[00:01:38] For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples.
[00:01:44] But the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you.
[00:01:50] And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.
[00:01:57] This passage reminds us of the powerful role we play as Christians in the world,
[00:02:03] even though it is filled with darkness.
[00:02:06] So today we'll explore what it means to be salt and light,
[00:02:10] and how living our faith openly can inspire others to follow the path to Christ.
[00:02:18] Let's start by unpacking what it means to be salt and light,
[00:02:23] as taught by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount.
[00:02:27] In Matthew 5, verses 13-16, reading from the New International Version,
[00:02:34] it reads,
[00:02:34] You are the salt of the earth.
[00:02:37] But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?
[00:02:43] You are the light of the world.
[00:02:45] A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
[00:02:50] Salt is essential for preserving food, enhancing flavor, and promoting health.
[00:02:56] As Christians, we are called to preserve, which is to uphold God's truth and righteousness in a world prone to moral decay.
[00:03:08] We're called to enhance, to add value and positive influence to the lives of others.
[00:03:15] We're called to heal, act as agents of restoration, helping to mend broken relationships and bringing hope to hopelessness.
[00:03:28] Light dispels darkness and provides clarity and directions.
[00:03:33] As followers of Christ, we are called to shine brightly, reflect God's love, truth, and goodness in all we do.
[00:03:44] We're called to illuminate, help others see God's path and purpose for their lives.
[00:03:51] And we're called to guide, lead people out of spiritual darkness and into the light of Christ.
[00:04:01] Being the salt of the earth means making a difference through our actions and character.
[00:04:07] Here are a few practical ways to live this out.
[00:04:11] Number one, show kindness and compassion.
[00:04:14] Acts of kindness can change someone's perspective and point them toward God's love.
[00:04:22] Proverbs 11 and 25 reads,
[00:04:25] A generous person will prosper.
[00:04:27] Whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
[00:04:31] Number two, speak with grace.
[00:04:34] Use your words to uplift, encourage, and bring wisdom to others.
[00:04:40] Colossians 4 and 6 reads,
[00:04:43] Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
[00:04:52] And number three, uphold integrity.
[00:04:54] In a world filled with compromise, living with honesty and righteousness sets us apart.
[00:05:03] Proverbs 10 and 9 reads,
[00:05:06] Whoever walks in integrity, walks securely.
[00:05:10] But whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.
[00:05:14] When we live as salt, we add value to the world and point others to the eternal hope found in Christ.
[00:05:24] As the light of the world, our lives are meant to reflect God's glory and inspire others.
[00:05:30] This doesn't mean drawing attention to ourselves, but rather allowing God's work in us to shine brightly for others to see.
[00:05:40] We must lead by example.
[00:05:42] Our daily lives, whether in the workplace, at home, or in the community, should demonstrate Christlike love and humility.
[00:05:53] Philippians 2 and 15 reads,
[00:05:56] Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky, as you hold firmly to the word of life.
[00:06:05] Be bold in sharing the gospel.
[00:06:08] Don't hide your faith.
[00:06:10] Be open about what God has done in your life and share his truth with those around you.
[00:06:15] Romans 1 and 16 reads,
[00:06:19] For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.
[00:06:29] Inspire through good works.
[00:06:31] When we serve others selflessly, we reflect God's character and draw people to him.
[00:06:38] Matthew 5 and 16 reads,
[00:06:40] Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
[00:06:48] Living as salt in life isn't always easy.
[00:06:52] Fear, doubt, and opposition can make it tempting to blend in rather than stand out.
[00:07:00] Here's how to overcome these challenges.
[00:07:03] Rely on God's strength.
[00:07:06] Isaiah 41 and 10 reads,
[00:07:09] So do not fear, for I am with you.
[00:07:12] Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
[00:07:15] I will strengthen you and help you.
[00:07:21] Stay connected to the source.
[00:07:24] Spend time in prayer, worship, and studying God's word to keep your light shining brightly.
[00:07:31] John 15 and 5 reads,
[00:07:34] Apart from me, you can do nothing.
[00:07:38] Trust God's plan.
[00:07:40] Even when it feels like your efforts are unnoticed, trust that God is using you for his glory.
[00:07:47] Galatians 6 and 9 reads,
[00:07:50] Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
[00:07:59] Brothers and sisters, remember that being salt in life is both a privilege and a responsibility.
[00:08:07] Isaiah 60 verses 1 through 3 calls us to arise and shine because God's glory has risen upon us.
[00:08:15] Through our actions, words, and faith, we can bring hope to a dark world and inspire others to follow Christ.
[00:08:25] Let your life add value and illuminate the path for those around you.
[00:08:30] Be bold in your faith, knowing that when you shine for God, you reflect his glory and draw others to him.
[00:08:41] So stay faithful, stay inspired, and keep shining brightly for his glory.
[00:08:48] I thank you for spending time with me on today, and I look forward to our conversation on tomorrow.
[00:08:54] Until then, God bless.
