[00:00:37] Welcome to The Bible Speaks with your host Elgin Carelock.

[00:00:42] The Bible Speaks is a daily podcast dedicated to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ,

[00:00:49] rightly dividing the word of truth and learning how to apply it to our daily lives.

[00:00:55] You may contact Elgin at the address given at the end of the broadcast.

[00:00:59] And now here's Elgin.

[00:01:02] Brothers and Sisters, I welcome you in the name of our risen Savior, Jesus the Christ,

[00:01:08] to another episode of Words of Inspiration.

[00:01:11] And we're continuing in our series, Children of the Light.

[00:01:16] And today's episode is titled, Overcoming Darkness.

[00:01:22] And we'll explore the power of God's light to dispel darkness in our lives and the world.

[00:01:28] Our inspiration comes from John, Chapter 8, Verse 12.

[00:01:35] And reading from the New International Version, it reads,

[00:01:39] I am the light of the world.

[00:01:41] Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

[00:01:49] This is a powerful declaration by Jesus.

[00:01:53] And it reminds us that through his light, darkness has already been defeated.

[00:01:59] So today, we'll discuss how believers are called to walk in his light, reflect his glory,

[00:02:06] and bring hope to a world often overshadowed by darkness.

[00:02:09] From the beginning, the Bible establishes that light triumphs over darkness.

[00:02:17] In creation, God's first act was to command light into existence.

[00:02:24] Genesis 1 and 3 reads,

[00:02:27] And God said, Let there be light.

[00:02:29] And there was light.

[00:02:31] This sets the stage for God's pattern of overcoming darkness, both physical and spiritual.

[00:02:39] Jesus' statement in John 8 and 12 builds on this truth.

[00:02:44] He proclaims himself as the ultimate light, one that leads to life and dispels the darkness of sin, fear, and despair.

[00:02:55] John 1 and 5, reading from the New International Version reads,

[00:03:00] The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

[00:03:05] This assurance gives us confidence.

[00:03:08] No matter how overwhelming the darkness may seem, God's light is greater.

[00:03:16] As believers, we're not just recipients of God's light.

[00:03:20] We're also carriers of it.

[00:03:22] Walking in the light means living in alignment with God's truth and reflecting his character in our daily lives.

[00:03:31] Ephesians 5 and 8 reads,

[00:03:33] For you were once darkness, but now you are the light in the Lord.

[00:03:38] Live as children of light.

[00:03:42] This transformation calls us to leave behind the ways of darkness and embrace a life that glorifies God.

[00:03:50] Walking in the light involves living by God's word.

[00:03:55] His word illuminates our path and helps us navigate life's challenges.

[00:04:00] Psalm 119, 105 reads,

[00:04:04] Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

[00:04:09] It means living with integrity.

[00:04:12] Our actions should reflect God's goodness and truth, setting an example for others.

[00:04:21] Overcoming fear.

[00:04:22] The light of Christ gives us courage to face the unknown and stand against evil.

[00:04:29] 2 Timothy 1 and 7 reminds us,

[00:04:32] For the spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.

[00:04:40] The world around us can often seem engulfed in darkness, marked by violence, despair, and moral decay.

[00:04:49] But as children of the light, we are called to shine brightly, bringing hope and truth to those around us.

[00:04:58] Matthew 5, verses 14 through 6 reminds us,

[00:05:03] You are the light of the world.

[00:05:05] A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.

[00:05:08] Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

[00:05:15] Our lives should serve as beacons, pointing others to the love and power of Christ.

[00:05:23] So here are a few practical ways to share God's life.

[00:05:28] Number one, encourage others.

[00:05:32] Be a source of hope and kindness to those who are struggling.

[00:05:37] Number two, living with compassion.

[00:05:40] Reflect Christ's love through acts of service and generosity.

[00:05:45] Number three, proclaiming the gospel.

[00:05:49] Share the good news of Jesus with those who need to hear it.

[00:05:56] Overcoming darkness requires faith in God's promises.

[00:06:00] When trials arise, it's easy to feel overwhelmed.

[00:06:04] But the Bible reassures us that God is with us and his light will guide us through.

[00:06:10] Isaiah 41 and 10 reads,

[00:06:13] So do not fear, for I am with you.

[00:06:16] Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.

[00:06:19] I will strengthen you and help you.

[00:06:22] I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

[00:06:27] And Romans 8, verse 37 reads,

[00:06:32] No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

[00:06:39] These promises remind us that no darkness is too great for God to overcome.

[00:06:46] Our ultimate goal as children of the light is to glorify God through our actions, words and lives.

[00:06:53] When we reflect his light, we inspire others to seek him and find hope in his truth.

[00:07:01] 2 Corinthians 4 and 6 reads,

[00:07:05] For God, who said,

[00:07:20] Our role is to let his light shine, not for our own glory, but to point others to the source of all light, Jesus Christ.

[00:07:30] Brothers and sisters, remember this.

[00:07:34] Darkness has already been overcome by the light of Christ.

[00:07:37] Through his love, power and truth, we have the assurance that no challenge is too great.

[00:07:45] No trial too difficult and no evil too strong to defeat his light.

[00:07:51] John 8 and 12 reminds us that when we follow Jesus, we will never walk in darkness, but we'll have the light of life.

[00:08:02] Let this truth empower you and walk boldly, reflecting his glory and bringing hope to a world in need.

[00:08:12] If today's message has encouraged you, share it with someone who needs to be reminded of God's power to overcome darkness.

[00:08:21] And as you go through your week, walk as a child of delight, trusting in his promises and shining his love to those around you.

[00:08:32] Stay faithful, stay inspired and keep shining brightly.

[00:08:38] I thank you for spending time with me on today.

[00:08:42] And I look forward to our conversation on tomorrow.

[00:08:45] Until then, God bless.
