[00:00:37] Welcome to The Bible Speaks with your host Elgin Carelock.

[00:00:42] The Bible Speaks is a daily podcast dedicated to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, rightly

[00:00:49] dividing the word of truth, and learning how to apply it to our daily lives.

[00:00:55] You may contact Elgin at the address given at the end of the broadcast.

[00:00:59] And now, here's Elgin.

[00:01:02] Brothers and Sisters, I welcome you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of

[00:01:09] the Holy Spirit, to another episode of Words of Inspiration.

[00:01:15] And I'm excited to share today's message titled, Obedience vs. Sacrifice.

[00:01:23] Our inspiration comes from Deuteronomy 30, verse 16.

[00:01:28] And reading from the New International Version, it reads,

[00:01:32] For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to Him, and to keep

[00:01:40] His commands, decrees, and laws.

[00:01:44] Then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are

[00:01:50] entering to possess.

[00:01:54] This verse reminds us that God's great desire is for us to walk in obedience, a willful daily

[00:02:01] commitment to follow Him and His will.

[00:02:05] While sacrifices and acts of worship can please God, they are no substitute for heartfelt obedience,

[00:02:11] which stems from a deep relationship with Him.

[00:02:15] So let's explore why God values obedience over sacrifice, and what that means for us as believers.

[00:02:25] Obedience is not about following a checklist of rules.

[00:02:29] It's about choosing God out of love and reverence for who He is and what He's done for us.

[00:02:36] John 14 and 15 reads,

[00:02:39] If you love me, keep my commands.

[00:02:43] Obedience flows from a place of love.

[00:02:47] It's our response to the incredible grace and mercy God has shown us through Jesus Christ.

[00:02:54] Sacrifice, on other hand, can sometimes be a hollow ritual done out of tradition or habit rather than genuine devotion.

[00:03:04] God doesn't want us to serve Him out of obligation, but from a heart that desires to please Him.

[00:03:11] 1 Samuel 15 and 22 reads,

[00:03:15] Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifice as much as in obeying the Lord?

[00:03:21] To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.

[00:03:29] This verse emphasizes that obedience reflects a heart aligned with God,

[00:03:34] while sacrifice without obedience is meaningless.

[00:03:37] Walking in obedience to God is a daily decision.

[00:03:43] It involves seeking His will, trusting His plan, and aligning our lives with His purpose.

[00:03:52] Deuteronomy 30 and 16 highlights that obedience leads to life, growth, and blessings.

[00:04:00] Love the Lord your God to walk in obedience to Him and to keep His commands.

[00:04:07] Obedience requires diligence.

[00:04:09] It's about listening to God, understanding His word, and applying it to our lives.

[00:04:17] Sacrifice, while valuable, can sometimes be a one-time act.

[00:04:22] Obedience, however, is ongoing.

[00:04:25] It's about choosing God in the small, everyday moments and living a life that reflects His character.

[00:04:35] God desires obedience because it demonstrates a heart that has been transformed by His love.

[00:04:41] It's not about performing religious acts,

[00:04:44] but about living a life that overflows with love, joy, peace, and serving others.

[00:04:52] Micah 6 and 8 captures this beautifully.

[00:04:56] It reads,

[00:04:58] He has shown you, O mortal, what is good,

[00:05:01] and what does the Lord require of you,

[00:05:04] to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

[00:05:11] This is the essence of obedience,

[00:05:13] living in a way that honors God and serves others.

[00:05:19] Sacrifice, while important, can sometimes focus inward on what we're giving up.

[00:05:26] Obedience, however, focuses outward on loving God and helping those around us.

[00:05:34] When we walk in obedience to God,

[00:05:36] we experience the abundant life Jesus promised.

[00:05:40] Obedience frees us from the need to earn God's favor

[00:05:44] because it's rooted in His grace.

[00:05:47] John 10.10 reminds us,

[00:05:50] I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.

[00:05:55] This fullness of life comes from aligning ourselves with God's will

[00:06:00] and living out His purpose for us.

[00:06:04] Sacrifices can sometimes feel burdensome,

[00:06:07] but obedience brings peace and joy.

[00:06:10] When we obey God,

[00:06:12] we are living in harmony with His perfect design for our lives.

[00:06:16] And that brings true fulfillment.

[00:06:20] God doesn't want us to live lives that are just about following traditions

[00:06:24] or checking off religious tasks.

[00:06:27] He desires a relationship with us,

[00:06:30] one that is marked by trust,

[00:06:33] love,

[00:06:33] and a desire to please Him.

[00:06:36] Romans 12.1 reads,

[00:06:39] Therefore,

[00:06:40] I urge you,

[00:06:41] brothers and sisters,

[00:06:43] in the view of God's mercy,

[00:06:45] to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice,

[00:06:48] holy and pleasing to God.

[00:06:51] This is your true and proper worship.

[00:06:55] True worship is a life of obedience,

[00:06:58] where everything we do reflects our love for God.

[00:07:01] When we focus on obedience,

[00:07:04] we invite God to work through us,

[00:07:07] using us to bring value to others.

[00:07:10] He uses our lives as a testimony to His goodness and faith.

[00:07:16] Brothers and sisters,

[00:07:18] God is not just looking for sacrifices or outward displays of devotion.

[00:07:23] He's looking for hearts that are fully committed to Him.

[00:07:27] Obedience is a daily choice to follow His will,

[00:07:31] to trust His plan,

[00:07:32] and to reflect His love in our actions.

[00:07:37] Deuteronomy 30 and 16 reminds us that when we walk in obedience,

[00:07:41] we experience God's blessings,

[00:07:44] live a life of purpose,

[00:07:46] and bring glory to Him.

[00:07:49] Sacrifices may please God,

[00:07:51] but obedience is what truly honors Him,

[00:07:54] because it flows from a heart that knows and loves Him.

[00:07:59] So let's commit to living lives

[00:08:01] that are not just about rituals or traditions,

[00:08:05] but about overflowing with love,

[00:08:07] joy,

[00:08:08] and peace.

[00:08:10] Let's choose obedience,

[00:08:12] not because we have to,

[00:08:14] but because we want to,

[00:08:16] out of gratitude for who God is

[00:08:19] and what Jesus has done for us.

[00:08:23] I thank you for spending time with me on today,

[00:08:26] and I look forward to our conversation on tomorrow.

[00:08:30] Until then,

[00:08:31] God bless.
