Teachers must be discerning, ensuring that the Word they teach is free from error. This involves being rooted in Scripture and being aware of teachings that could lead others astray. When false teachings arise, teachers are responsible for standing firm in the truth and helping others discern what is from God and what is not.
[00:00:37] Welcome to The Bible Speaks with your host Elgin Carelock.
[00:00:42] The Bible Speaks is a daily podcast dedicated to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ,
[00:00:49] rightly dividing the word of truth and learning how to apply it to our daily lives.
[00:00:55] You may contact Elgin at the address given at the end of the broadcast.
[00:00:59] And now here's Elgin.
[00:01:02] Brothers and sisters, I welcome you in the name of our risen Savior, Jesus the Christ,
[00:01:08] to another edition of Words of Inspiration,
[00:01:11] where we explore how God's word shapes our lives and empowers us to fulfill our purpose in his kingdom.
[00:01:19] And today we're continuing in our series on spiritual gifts, the gifts of grace,
[00:01:25] inspired by Romans chapter 12, verses 6 through 8.
[00:01:30] Our focus today is on the gift of teaching and the responsibility that comes with it.
[00:01:38] The title of today's episode is Feed My Sheep.
[00:01:42] And it's inspired by James chapter 3, verse 1.
[00:01:47] Reading from the New International Version, it reads,
[00:02:01] This verse serves as both a warning and a reminder of the weight that teachers carry when they handle the word of God.
[00:02:08] Teaching isn't just about sharing knowledge.
[00:02:12] It's about shaping hearts, minds, and the lives in alignment with God's truth.
[00:02:19] So we'll explore the high calling of teaching and how it plays a vital role in feeding God's sheep.
[00:02:29] The first responsibility of a teacher is to handle God's word with accuracy.
[00:02:35] As teachers, we're entrusted with the sacred duty of leading others into truth.
[00:02:40] And that means we must be diligent in studying in scripture and ensuring that we teach what is aligned with God's will.
[00:02:49] 2 Timothy 2, verse 15 says,
[00:02:53] Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved,
[00:02:58] a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
[00:03:04] We are not just conveyors of information, but stewards of God's revelation.
[00:03:10] We must approach the word of God with reverence, seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit to ensure that we interpret and teach it correctly.
[00:03:20] When we teach, we're not speaking on our own authority, but on behalf of God, which makes the call to accuracy even more critical.
[00:03:32] Teaching goes beyond what we say.
[00:03:35] It includes how we live.
[00:03:37] A teacher's life should reflect the very truths they teach.
[00:03:42] Titus 2, verses 7 through 8, reading from the New International Version says,
[00:03:48] In everything set them an example by doing what is good.
[00:03:53] In your teaching show integrity, seriousness, and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned,
[00:04:00] so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
[00:04:08] When we live lives of integrity and faithfulness, our teaching gains credibility.
[00:04:13] People are more likely to follow someone whose life aligns with the word of God.
[00:04:19] Teaching is not just about passing on knowledge.
[00:04:22] It's about embodying the principles of scripture in a way that others can see and follow.
[00:04:28] As teachers, we must be mindful that our lives reflect the truth we proclaim.
[00:04:38] Teachers are also called the guardians against false teachings.
[00:04:42] In a world filled with competing messages and distorted interpretation of scriptures, teachers must be vigilant.
[00:04:50] 1 Timothy 4, verse 16 says,
[00:04:54] Watch your life and doctrine closely.
[00:04:57] Persevere in them.
[00:04:59] Because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
[00:05:05] Teachers must be discerning, ensuring that the word they teach is free from error.
[00:05:10] This involves being rooted in the scripture and being aware of teachings that could lead others astray.
[00:05:17] When false teachings arise, teachers are responsible for standing firm in the truth and helping others discern what is from God and what is not.
[00:05:28] The role of a teacher is not just to inform, but to equip the saints for work of ministry.
[00:05:35] Ephesians 4, verses 11 through 12 reminds us,
[00:05:39] So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors, and teachers to equip his people for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up.
[00:05:54] Teachers play a crucial role in helping others grow in their faith and fulfill their God-given purpose.
[00:06:02] We are called to empower believers to live out their faith in practical ways, using their gifts to serve God and others.
[00:06:10] When we equip others with the knowledge and understanding of God's word, we are building up the body of Christ and expanding his kingdom.
[00:06:19] Finally, teachers are called to model love and patience.
[00:06:26] Teaching often involves dealing with difficult questions, misunderstandings, and sometimes resistance.
[00:06:34] But teachers must approach this situation with gentleness and grace.
[00:06:39] Second Timothy 2, verses 24 through 25 says,
[00:06:45] The Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome, but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.
[00:06:53] Opponents must be gently instructed in the hope that God will grant them repentance, leading them to a knowledge of the truth.
[00:07:03] Patience and kindness are essential for teachers, especially when dealing with those who may not understand or may resist the truth.
[00:07:12] A teacher's love and patience creates a safe environment for learning and growing, allowing God's word to penetrate hearts over time.
[00:07:22] Brothers and sisters, while the role of a teacher is demanding, it is also incredibly rewarding.
[00:07:29] Teachers have the privilege of shaping lives, expanding God's kingdom and helping others grow in their faith.
[00:07:37] As James 3 and 1 reminds us, this responsibility is serious, but is also a calling that brings eternal significance.
[00:07:47] When we faithfully teach God's word, live as examples, guard against false teachings, equip the saints, and model love and patience, we're truly feeding God's sheep.
[00:08:00] And in doing so, we help others draw closer to him and become more like Christ.
[00:08:06] I thank you for joining me on today, and I look forward to our conversation on tomorrow.
[00:08:13] Until then, God bless.
