[00:01:02] Brothers and Sisters, I welcome you in the name of our risen Savior, Jesus to Christ, to another episode of Words of Inspiration. And today we are on our second episode of our series, The Christian Entrepreneur. And we will be diving into a critical topic, doing business with Godly principles.
[00:01:26] Our inspiration for this episode comes from Proverbs 11, verse 1. And reading from the New International Version, it reads,
[00:01:36] The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with Him. This verse speaks directly to how we conduct ourselves in the marketplace. Whether we're setting prices, managing employees, or engaging with customers,
[00:01:54] every aspect of our business, every aspect of our business should honor God. So today we'll explore how prioritizing righteousness over profit not only earns the trust of others, but also reflects God's character.
[00:02:08] And as we did in the last episode, we will use Genesis 1, 1-31 to see how God's example in creation can guide us in methodically building businesses that reflect His love and care.
[00:02:21] Let's begin with the foundation of what it means to do business with Godly principles. Proverbs 11, 1, highlights God's desire for honesty and fairness.
[00:02:34] Dishonesty, whether in pricing, contracts, or employee treatment, is not just unethical, it's something that God detests.
[00:02:43] On the other hand, businesses that operate with integrity find favor with Him.
[00:02:47] As Christian entrepreneurs, our businesses are not just about making a profit.
[00:02:53] They're platforms to reflect God's righteousness.
[00:02:57] Here are a few ways to honor God in your business.
[00:03:01] Set fair prices.
[00:03:03] Avoid overcharging or taking advantage of others for personal gain.
[00:03:08] Treat other people well.
[00:03:11] Treat your employees well.
[00:03:13] Recognize their value and ensure they are treated with dignity and fairness.
[00:03:19] Engage honestly with your customers.
[00:03:22] Be transparent and reliable in your interactions.
[00:03:27] When we prioritize righteousness, we reflect God's character in the marketplace
[00:03:32] and become trustworthy stewards of opportunities He has given us.
[00:03:37] Genesis 1, 1-31 shows us how God created the world with purpose, order, and care.
[00:03:45] Each step of creation was intentional, reflecting His attention to detail and commitment to excellence.
[00:03:52] This is a powerful example for us as entrepreneurs.
[00:03:56] If we want our businesses to honor God, we must approach them with the same intentionality.
[00:04:02] Think about how God methodically built creation.
[00:04:06] Day 1 was light.
[00:04:08] God began to separate light from darkness, laying the foundation for everything that followed.
[00:04:15] Similarly, we must start by defining the mission and vision of our business.
[00:04:20] What is the purpose of our work?
[00:04:22] How does it reflect God's principles?
[00:04:25] Day 2, sky and waters.
[00:04:28] God brought structure to His creation.
[00:04:30] In our businesses, this might look like setting up processes, establishing roles, and creating systems that promote fairness and efficiency.
[00:04:41] Day 3, land and vegetation.
[00:04:44] On this day, God provided the resources needed for life to thrive.
[00:04:49] For us, this means investing in the right tools, training, and people to ensure that our businesses are fruitful.
[00:04:58] Days 4 through 6.
[00:05:00] Filling the earth with life.
[00:05:03] Each creation was unique, and each served a purpose.
[00:05:07] In the same way, we should build businesses that not only meet needs, but also create value for others,
[00:05:14] all while reflecting God's creativity and care.
[00:05:18] When we build with love and care, we are not just creating a business.
[00:05:23] We are participating in God's redemptive work, bringing order, beauty, and service to the world.
[00:05:31] As entrepreneurs, it's tempting to focus solely on the bottom line.
[00:05:35] But Matthew 6 and 33 reminds us,
[00:05:46] When you put God's principles first, we can trust Him to provide for our needs.
[00:05:53] Prioritizing righteousness means saying no to deals that compromise your values.
[00:05:59] Choosing quality over shortcuts, even if it costs more up front.
[00:06:03] Valuing relationships over quick wins.
[00:06:07] These decisions might not always make sense from a worldly perspective, but they align with God's way.
[00:06:15] And that's what matters most.
[00:06:17] If you're wondering how to practically apply these principles in your business, here are a few steps.
[00:06:23] Number one, create a value statement.
[00:06:28] Clearly define the values that will guide your business.
[00:06:32] Include principles like honesty, fairness, and excellence.
[00:06:37] Number two, be transparent.
[00:06:40] Whether it's with customers, employees, or partners, always communicate openly and truthfully.
[00:06:47] Number three, treat people with respect.
[00:06:51] See your employees, clients, and suppliers as image bearers of God.
[00:06:57] Their worth is not tied to their role, but to their identity in Christ.
[00:07:02] Number four, review your practices.
[00:07:06] Regularly evaluate your business practices.
[00:07:09] Are they honoring God?
[00:07:11] Are there areas where you can improve?
[00:07:15] And number five, pray for wisdom.
[00:07:19] Running a business comes with tough decisions.
[00:07:23] Seek God's guidance daily to ensure your actions align with his will.
[00:07:28] The ultimate goal of doing business with godly principles is to reflect God's character in the marketplace.
[00:07:35] When people interact with your business, they should see something different.
[00:07:40] Something that points them to Christ.
[00:07:42] Your integrity, fairness, and care can become a powerful testimony of God's love.
[00:07:50] Colossians 3 verses 23 to 24 reminds us,
[00:07:55] Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not for human masters.
[00:08:02] Since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.
[00:08:07] It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
[00:08:11] So remember that being a Christian entrepreneur is about more than running a successful business.
[00:08:17] It's about creating something that pleases God and serves others with excellence, fairness, and integrity.
[00:08:25] By prioritizing righteousness over profit, we reflect God's character and become a light in the marketplace.
[00:08:34] If this episode has encouraged or challenged you, share it with someone who might need the same.
[00:08:40] And as you continue building your business, remember, God has called you to honor him in every detail.
[00:08:48] Build methodically, serve intentionally, and let your work reflect the love and care of our creator.
[00:08:57] I thank you for spending time with me on today, and I look forward to our time together on tomorrow.
[00:09:03] Until then, God bless.
