The gift of serving is the ability to see the needs of others and meet them, often quietly, without seeking recognition or applause. Those with this gift are not driven by a need for praise or public acknowledgment. Instead, their greatest satisfaction comes from knowing that they’ve helped others, even if no one else notices.
[00:00:37] Welcome to The Bible Speaks with your host Elgin Carelock.
[00:00:42] The Bible Speaks is a daily podcast dedicated to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ,
[00:00:49] rightly dividing the word of truth, and learning how to apply it to our daily lives.
[00:00:55] You may contact Elgin at the address given at the end of the broadcast.
[00:00:59] And now, here's Elgin.
[00:01:02] Brothers and sisters, I welcome you, whoever you are, wherever you are, and whenever you're listening,
[00:01:09] to another episode of Words of Inspiration, where we explore how God's word empowers us to live with purpose and grace.
[00:01:20] In today's episode, we continue our series titled, Spiritual Gifts, The Gifts of Grace,
[00:01:28] Inspired by Romans, Chapter 12, Verses 6-8.
[00:01:35] We've been discussing the different gifts God has given us to expand His Kingdom on Earth,
[00:01:41] and today's focus is on the gift of serving.
[00:01:46] Our inspiration comes from Philippians 2, Verses 3-4,
[00:01:51] and reading from the New International Version, it reads,
[00:01:56] Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.
[00:02:00] Rather, in humility, value others above yourself,
[00:02:05] not looking to your own interests, but each of you to the interests of the others.
[00:02:12] These verses perfectly capture the essence of having a servant's heart,
[00:02:16] one that reflects humility, selflessness, and a genuine desire to put others' needs above your own.
[00:02:24] For those with the gift of serving, this comes naturally.
[00:02:29] So, we're going to explore how this gift reflects the heart of Jesus,
[00:02:34] and how it can bring God's love into practical action.
[00:02:38] The gift of serving is the ability to see the needs of others and meet them,
[00:02:45] often quietly, without seeking recognition or applause.
[00:02:50] Those with this gift are not driven by a need for praise or public acknowledgement.
[00:02:55] Instead, their greatest satisfaction comes from knowing that they've helped others,
[00:03:00] even if no one else notices.
[00:03:04] In our world today, where people often crave recognition and rewards,
[00:03:09] those with the gift of serving reflect a deeper truth,
[00:03:13] that the work of the kingdom often happens behind the scenes.
[00:03:17] Whether it's preparing meals for someone in need,
[00:03:21] setting up chairs for an event,
[00:03:23] or offering a listening ear,
[00:03:25] those who serve do so out of the heart of love and compassion.
[00:03:29] They mirror the humble nature of Christ,
[00:03:33] who, as we are told in Matthew 20 and 28,
[00:03:37] did not come to be served, but to serve,
[00:03:41] and to give his life as a ransom for many.
[00:03:45] When we talk about having a servant's heart,
[00:03:48] we're talking about reflecting the heart of Jesus.
[00:03:52] Jesus' life was a perfect example of humility and service.
[00:03:56] He washed his disciples' feet,
[00:03:59] healed the sick,
[00:04:00] and spent time with those who were marginalized and overlooked by society.
[00:04:06] In all of his actions,
[00:04:08] Jesus prioritized the needs of others over his own.
[00:04:13] Those with the gift of serving naturally embodied this mindset.
[00:04:17] They are the ones who offer practical help and support where it's needed most.
[00:04:22] And in doing so,
[00:04:24] they bring the love of God into the lives of others in a tangible way.
[00:04:29] Philippians 2 verses 5 through 7
[00:04:32] encourages us to have the same mindset as Christ.
[00:04:36] It reads,
[00:04:58] A true servant does not seek to elevate themselves,
[00:05:02] but instead humbles themselves for the sake of others,
[00:05:05] just as Jesus did.
[00:05:07] Often,
[00:05:08] those with the gift of serving prefer to work in the background,
[00:05:13] unseen by most,
[00:05:14] but essential to the success of any ministry or community effort.
[00:05:19] Their role may not be public or flashy,
[00:05:23] but it's critical.
[00:05:24] Imagine a church service without the volunteers who set up,
[00:05:28] clean up,
[00:05:29] and support behind the scenes.
[00:05:32] Imagine a mission project without the people who handle logistics,
[00:05:36] transportation,
[00:05:37] transportation,
[00:05:37] and supplies.
[00:05:38] The work of a servant sustains the whole.
[00:05:42] In Romans 12 verses 6 through 7,
[00:05:46] Paul highlights this spiritual gift.
[00:05:48] We have different gifts according to the grace given to each of us.
[00:05:53] If your gift is serving,
[00:05:54] then serve.
[00:05:56] The simplicity of that statement shows the profound value God places on service.
[00:06:01] It may seem ordinary,
[00:06:04] but it carries extraordinary weight in God's kingdom.
[00:06:08] When you serve,
[00:06:09] even in the smallest ways,
[00:06:11] you're helping to expand the kingdom by allowing others to experience God's love
[00:06:16] in practical,
[00:06:17] meaningful ways.
[00:06:20] The gift of serving is about action.
[00:06:23] While some may have gifts of teaching or leadership,
[00:06:26] the gift of serving brings God's love to life through practical deeds.
[00:06:31] Whether it's caring for the sick,
[00:06:34] offering hospitality,
[00:06:35] or helping someone in need,
[00:06:37] serving is an expression of God's love in action.
[00:06:41] James 2 verse 17 reminds us that faith by itself,
[00:06:47] if it is not accompanied by action,
[00:06:49] is dead.
[00:06:50] Those who serve bring life to their faith by doing what needs to be done,
[00:06:56] whether anyone sees it or not.
[00:06:59] It is in the small unnoticed acts of kindness and generosity that God's grace shines through.
[00:07:07] Brothers and sisters,
[00:07:08] I want to encourage you,
[00:07:10] whether you recognize this gift in yourself or in others around you,
[00:07:14] never underestimate the power of a servant's heart.
[00:07:18] It's through the simple,
[00:07:20] humble acts of service that God's love is made real in the world.
[00:07:25] Serving others,
[00:07:26] as Philippians 2 verse 3 and 4 tell us,
[00:07:29] it's not about seeking personal gain or recognition.
[00:07:33] It's about humbly valuing others above ourselves
[00:07:36] and bringing God's kingdom into their lives through practical love.
[00:07:42] If you have the gift of serving,
[00:07:44] continue to serve faithfully,
[00:07:46] knowing that God sees your work,
[00:07:49] even when others don't.
[00:07:51] You are expanding his kingdom in ways that are deeply impactful
[00:07:54] and align with the heart of Jesus.
[00:07:58] I thank you for spending time with me on today,
[00:08:01] and I look forward to our conversation on tomorrow.
[00:08:05] Until then,
[00:08:07] God bless.
