There are times when you read the Bible and suddenly realize, “That sounds like me.” Maybe not the exact circumstance, but the same fear, same doubt, same pride, same hesitation. That is one of the beautiful things about Scripture. The Word of God is not only the answer; it is also a mirror.

[00:01:02] Brothers and sisters, I welcome you in the name of our risen Savior, Jesus the Christ, to another edition of The Bible Speaks, where we're studying God's word together. Today's discussion is titled, Your Spiritual Twin. Our scriptural inspiration comes from 1 Corinthians 10, verse 11.
[00:01:32] And from the New International Version, it reads, These things happened to them as examples, and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come. Paul reminds the church that the stories preserved in scripture are not just ancient history. They're examples, warnings, and guideposts for believers today.
[00:02:00] The people we read about had real fears, desires, weaknesses, and opportunities. Their worlds were different from ours, but their heart faced many of the same battles. Through their stories, God teaches us how to trust Him, obey Him, repent quickly, and walk closer to His will. Let us pray.
[00:02:27] Father God, thank you for giving us your word as truth, instruction, correction, and encouragement. Open our hearts today so we can see ourselves honestly in scripture. Help us find the biblical examples that speak to our current season, and let the Holy Spirit guide us into wisdom, obedience, and truth. In Jesus Christ's name we pray. Amen.
[00:02:58] There are times when you read the Bible and suddenly realize, that sounds like me. Maybe not the exact circumstance, but the same fear, same doubt, same pride, same hesitation. That is one of the beautiful things about scripture. The word of God is not only the answer, it's also a mirror.
[00:03:22] 1 Corinthians 10 and 11 tells us these things were written down as examples and warnings for us. In other words, God preserved their stories so we could learn from their journey. You may need reassurance like Thomas, who struggled to believe until he encountered the risen Christ. You may need reassurance like Gideon, who was hiding in fear when God called him a mighty warrior.
[00:03:51] You may need repentance like David, courage like Esther, patience like Joseph, obedience like Mary, or restoration like Peter. Even though the Bible is more than 2000 years old, Ecclesiastes reminds us there's nothing new under the sun.
[00:04:14] Sure, they didn't have the internet, social media, AIs, 24 hour news, or a modern workplace, but they still wrestled with pride, fear, jealousy, and unbelief. The technology has changed, but the heart issues have not. When you feel defiant, read Jonah. Jonah knew what God said, but he ran in the opposite direction.
[00:04:42] His story reminds us that disobedience may delay the assignment, but it does not erase God's mercy. When you think you have it all figured out, study Paul's journey. Before he became the apostle who wrote much of the New Testament, he was Saul, convinced he was right, while actively opposing the work of God.
[00:05:05] His life teaches us that zeal without surrender can lead us in the wrong direction, but grace can redirect even the most confident person. When you're afraid to step forward, read Gideon. When you're tired of waiting, read Abraham and Sarah. When you feel overlooked, read David in the field before the palace. When you're grieving, read Ruth and Naomi.
[00:05:33] When you've failed, read Peter. When you feel like giving up, read Elijah under the broom tree. God has given us twins for every season. This connects to what we discussed in Mustard Seed Faith. Faith does not mean we never feel fear. It means we bring our fear to the Father and keep trusting his word. And it connects to who, me?
[00:06:02] Because sometimes God uses the very person who feels least qualified. When the word says God will never leave us or forsake us, part of his faithfulness is seen on how he teaches us through those who walk before us. Their stories become companions. Their mistakes become warnings. Their obedience becomes encouragement.
[00:06:28] As we study, pray, meditate, and listen to the Holy Spirit, we learn how to live closer to God's will. And as we live closer to his will, our lives improve. Not always because circumstances become easy, but because our decision became wiser, our hearts became steadier, and our purpose became clearer.
[00:06:54] So take time to find your scriptural twin for this season of life. Ask yourself, who in the Bible sounds like where I am right now? Who wrestled with what I am wrestling with? Who needed the same correction, courage, comfort, or clarity? Then read, pray, meditate, listen. Let the Holy Spirit lead you to your next.
[00:07:22] Because the Bible is not just a book about what God did back then. It's a living word that helps us recognize what God is doing right now. Lord, thank you for the examples you've given us in scripture. Help us recognize the people in your word whose journeys speak to our current season. Teach us through their faith, failure, courage, and restoration.
[00:07:51] Let the Holy Spirit bring understanding so we can walk closer to your will, please you, serve others, and move faithfully into what's next. In Jesus Christ's name we pray. Amen.
