Our scriptural text is a cornerstone for understanding the Christian approach to dealing with temptations. It provides a balance between acknowledging human vulnerability to sin and affirming divine empowerment to overcome it. For believers, it offers a dual assurance: God’s intimate involvement in limiting the challenges they face according to their capacity and His provision of a way to handle temptations without being overwhelmed. This promise encourages believers to rely not on their strength but on God's provision and guidance.

[00:00:00] Welcome to the Bible Speaks with Elgin Carelock. The Bible Speaks is a weekly ministry of harvest international. Our prayer is that the Bible speaks for encourage you in your study of God's Word.

[00:00:38] You will be able to contact Elgin at the address given at the end of this broadcast. And now here's Elgin. Brothers and sisters, I welcome you in the name of Yeshua Hamasia. And thank you for spending time with us for another edition of Words of Inspiration.

[00:00:58] But today we have a treat. We have with us this Consuelasha License Mental Health Counselor. And we are going to have a discussion on you were built for this. And our spiritual inspiration comes from 1 Corinthians, chapter 10, verse 13, which reads,

[00:01:23] So temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability. But with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape that you may be able to endure it.

[00:01:40] The term temptations refers to tests or trials that challenge a person's faith in integrity and obedience to God. These temptations can come in various forms and are not always about enticing someone to commit evil acts. Instead, they often involve situations that test one's commitment to living according

[00:02:02] to God's will. In our anchor text Paul begins by telling the believers in Corinth that the trials and challenges they are experiencing is part of being human. In other words, all humans experience temptation. In the types of temptations that one might face are universally encountered.

[00:02:24] This means that no one is alone in their struggles. Others have faced similar challenges and have either overcome them or fall into them. Understanding that temptations are a common human experience can be comforting to those who might feel isolated or uniquely targeted by difficult circumstances or moral tests.

[00:02:48] I know it is easy to say that your temptations are common, but they may feel overwhelming and unique to your life. But being reassured you have been given the ability to resist and overcome.

[00:03:05] By stating that every temptation is common to mankind, Paul also fosters a sense of solidarity among believers. This recognition is intended to encourage Christians to support one another, knowing that they share common struggles against sin and temptation.

[00:03:24] It invites the community to offer empathy, advice and support based on shared experiences. As a matter of fact, James 5 and 16 tells us to confess your faults one to another and pray one for another that you might be healed.

[00:03:43] The effects will further prepare a righteous man, a valid much. So part of that healing is helping one another work through temptations. With that I will invite Ms. Shaw to share some thoughts with us please. Well, hello and thank you for having me.

[00:04:03] I like this scripture and the title that you've given it because I think it's imperative this day and season with everything that we've experienced, especially as we look back at COVID-19. COVID-19 I believe is and was the most challenging for anyone, not just Christians, but anyone.

[00:04:27] And we found out I believe a lot of times that do I have the stamina to stand that I thought I had. And that became one of the things that I feel allowed those who are Christians to really

[00:04:47] know where am I when it comes to believing I'm built for this. And when we talk about this, it's first of all let's identify what your this is because my this may not be yours. That's right.

[00:05:03] And so we want to really think about you were built for this. If the scripture is telling us that we were built for this, what comes to mind that says when I form you in your mother's womb, he's saying that I took the time to put into

[00:05:23] you everything that you would need to take this obstacle of life. And so if I believe that when he formed me in my mother's womb, that he already called me, he already purpose me. That means that he gave me everything I need.

[00:05:47] I believe the challenge comes when we think about our mental capacity. What is our mind telling us? Yes. It goes back to renewing our mind from the traditions, the trainings, the experiences, the what what Grummanam said and what big mom and them said.

[00:06:08] And what I often heard coming across the pulpit. And this day I feel that we are in a place where we may need to go back and revisit and say, does that fit for where I am? No, what I like is you mentioned the fact of being called.

[00:06:27] So one of the ways that you know you are built for this is that you're here. Your very existence shows that God had something on planet earth that could only be resolved by you. Absolutely. And the question is simply, well, you do it. Okay?

[00:06:46] And take the time to find out what that is. But the mere fact that you exist, it underscores the fact that you were called. And as you so eloquently put it has given you everything that you need, including the word of God. Right?

[00:07:03] Every scenario that you may face, you can go to the word of God and find people who have gone through the same things, something very similar. And that too is giving you the strength. And so the central part of the verse, highlight God's faithfulness.

[00:07:21] It reassures believers that God monitors their circumstances and will not allow them in the face temptations that are not insurmountable, that are insurmountable. This is a promise of God's protective boundaries over the lives of those who trusted Him.

[00:07:37] The promise of God will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. And unless there is a divine limitation placed on the extent and in intensity of temptations that can come against the believer. This limitation is tailored to each individual's capacity and spiritual maturity, which

[00:07:59] God knows perfectly. Immediately go to Job. Yes. You know, your mind goes right there because God knew Job's heart. Let Satan challenge him to an unimaginable level and unimaginable level because God knew his heart. And so he said, he's built for this. That's why you asked Satan.

[00:08:26] Have you seen my man Joe? And listen, and Satan told on himself because he says, oh well, yeah, because you got to head around exactly. Which means what? I've been trying him and you wouldn't let me get him. Yes, exactly.

[00:08:41] And the other thing that comes to mind for me is Romans 8 and 28. And he says, for we know that all things work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

[00:09:00] And so when you find yourself in those places that he's talking about in First Corinthians and he says, understand that even when you find yourself in this place, it is working for your good. And he's already created how you're going to get out of it. That's right.

[00:09:20] Are you willing to look for the way out versus looking at what you're in? That's right. That's right. Wow, that's that that's huge because God provides a way out. I mean, this means that for every challenging situation that might lead to sin, God ensures

[00:09:38] there is a feasible option to avoid giving them to temptation. This could be a sudden opportunity to leave a situation like Joseph Joseph did hear now. Okay. I'm not here. Well, the intervention of another person, you know, I've had times where you, someone

[00:09:58] says something to you and you want to respond and the Lord has somebody call you just at that time to take your mind off of what you were about to do. Exactly. And then we're just to say no, or even a redirection of the circumstances.

[00:10:14] I know, but you recognize that it's not to your advantage to do so. Yes. But the purpose of a way out is so that believers can endure the temptation without falling into sin. The focus is not nearly on escaping physical circumstances, but on enduring them in a way

[00:10:31] that does not compromise your spiritual integrity. And when you say that enduring them a lot of times the first thing we think about is, God, get me out of this. And he said, no, I need you in this. That's right.

[00:10:47] Because part of my purpose for you is that you're in this because there are people that you may encounter. There's things that I need you to do while you're in this state, yes, in that state of feeling broken, feeling lonely, feeling nothing is working, feeling that you're at

[00:11:04] your wit's end. I feel that God is saying, listen, I need you to look at me and not it because I have something bigger for you, but can you just endure it? That's right. And can you just trust me when I say you were built for this? Absolutely.

[00:11:24] I'm not giving you any temptation that you couldn't bear, that you couldn't endure. Absolutely. And I'm going to give you a way out. Now as a human being, sometimes we don't like the way. Absolutely. And I was like, couldn't we have found an easier way to do that?

[00:11:40] I really have to wreck my car. Right. It's just like when Jesus said, will you let this cup pass me? Yes. No. And then he went back and said it again. Yes, you did. Well, you let this cup pass me. And no.

[00:11:55] And he did it at a third time. That's right. And other words, God is saying, you were built for this? That's right. Yeah. And so we have to do just like Jesus did and get to the point where we can say, nevertheless. Nevertheless. Nevertheless.

[00:12:08] Because if we truly believe that we are built for it and we truly believe that he has, you know, from Jeremiah 29 and 11, don't say he has for us. Exactly. And then we have to set our minds on pressing. Yes. Right. Paul said we press.

[00:12:29] Which means that that indicates resistance. There's something resisting me. That's right. And so but if we understand that we are built for it, I think part of the problem is we have gotten into such a microwave world. Absolutely. We were everything to be fast.

[00:12:44] But even if I am doing something or going to a trial of God, it's just that make me grow. Her up. Exactly. Why God last this long. Mm-hmm. And then God, did you really see me? Yeah. And then we get that mindset of questioning the process of God.

[00:13:02] Yeah. And we find ourselves saying, I want the provision. I want the promise. But I don't want the process. But if he's telling me, I'm built for this. Anytime you're building something, it's a process. Yes. The car just doesn't come all together at one time. It's a process.

[00:13:23] It's on an assembly line and everything every person has its place. And until it goes through every stage, you don't have a complete car. And I don't think I won't want that hasn't gone through the whole process. Although we know that sometimes they may be

[00:13:41] coming out of manufacturing and then you have some issues with it. Right? But he said, if you let me work you through this process. Put you back on the pot as well. Let me mold you again and make you again. I'm ready to make you over now.

[00:13:59] Can you endure this and not jump out like we did last time? That's right. Right. Or how does the how is goal purified so he can see his reflexes? Absolutely. You got to burn off impurity. Absolutely. But at the same time, the goal doesn't go away. That's it.

[00:14:15] It does not. Probably doesn't like the 1200 degree heat. Yes. But when it comes out, how's it going? He said we come out as pure goal. Yes. And it last. We would want to say forever for a lifetime. And that's what we want.

[00:14:30] We want to last through this lifetime that he's given us. But we don't just want to last. We want to be able to stand and be impactful. Yes. We want to be able to walk in us through this process. We're able to show someone else.

[00:14:44] I'm built for this and that's why you see me. I still get up in a smile and I still greet people good morning. Yes. Have a good evening. Please and thank you. Especially when you go in through. Absolutely. They know that you're going through.

[00:15:00] But yet it doesn't change who you are. Absolutely. And then also then, you know, the hope is that they will then have a moment of introspection where they're saying, well, wow. What am I built for? Yes. Why do my built for it?

[00:15:13] And if you really think back honestly about things that God has brought you through, yes. Most of us have had miraculous things happen. And it was obviously because of God's grace but the ability that it did not cause you to have to take drugs as a result. Absolutely.

[00:15:33] Or have some extended amount of therapy is because he's built for it. You're built for it. Absolutely. So brothers and sisters, our on the scriptural text is the cornerstone for understanding that Christians approach to dealing with temptation.

[00:15:49] It provides a balance between acknowledging human vulnerability to sin and affirming divine empowerment to overcome it. For believers, it offers a dual assurance. God's intimate involvement in limiting the challenges they face according to their capacity and his provision of a way to handle temptation without being overwhelmed.

[00:16:12] This promise encourages believers to rely not on their own strength for God's provision and guidance. I want to thank you and Ms. Shaw for joining me on today. And I look forward to our conversation on tomorrow. Until then, God bless.
