God welcomes us to bring everything to Him in prayer, as He desires a close and trusting relationship with us and our adherence to His word. When we are committed to living according to His commandments, He assures us that He hears our prayers and provides guidance, comfort, and support in all circumstances.

[00:00:00] We're the spray friends together on our knees, let us pray friends together on our knees. And I fall on my knees with my face to the rise in sun, all over the earth, you see on the knees.

[00:00:27] Welcome to the Bible Speaks with Elgin Carelock. The Bible Speaks is a weekly ministry of harvest international.

[00:00:33] Our prayer is that the Bible Speaks will encourage you in your study of God's Word. You will be able to contact Elgin at the address given at the end of this broadcast. And now here's Elgin.

[00:00:46] Brothers and sisters, we welcome you from wherever you are, whenever you are, and whoever you are to another episode of Where's the Inspiration? And once again I have Ms. Consuelas Shaw joining me, and we're going to have a conversation with the topic of, what do you want?

[00:01:12] Our spiritual inspiration comes from the book of Hebrews chapter 4 verse 15, which reads, For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

[00:01:33] When I was growing up and was made to go to church there was always the message of homelessness, but homelessness as it related to asking God for things and to act on your own behalf in situations that would directly benefit you.

[00:01:51] Since God provided our daily bread and gave us life that we should not go to him with requests that benefited us financially or materially, But the word tells us in Psalm 84 verse 11, for the Lord God is a son and shield. The Lord bestows favor and honor.

[00:02:13] No good thing does he withhold from those who walk of rightly. Now to walk of rightly means to live a life of integrity, righteousness and adherence to God's commandments. It involves consistent, faithful living, characterized by moral purity, honesty, fairness, humility and a reverent fear of God.

[00:02:39] Those who walk up rightly are blessed with God's favor and protection, reflecting his character in their daily lives and interactions. This way of living not only on his guide but also serves as a powerful testimony to others of his transforming grace and power.

[00:02:59] Jesus died on the cross so our sin that would be paid and full. He ascended to the right hand of the Father, so the Holy Spirit could come and give us on board power to accomplish God's will and to graft those who believe in Him into the family.

[00:03:16] If we are family then we should not be afraid to go to our Father with what we want. So what says you? Hi, and thank you.

[00:03:30] When I look at it and I hear the text, what I understand and what I have seen for me is more of tradition.

[00:03:42] Training because as I grew up as well, it was more of if someone has authority or is over you, you are not to go and question them. And I feel that that has transitioned over into the church and has been transitioned to say, for lack of better terms.

[00:04:10] This is what this is saying. However, if he's saying to us, that's why I'm here, then where does it become unrighteous or wrong for us to ask our Father?

[00:04:26] Yes. It's just as the little girl with her father and she knows I can go to my dad and ask him for anything. And if we're saying that this is our Heavenly Father who sits high, who is over everything has a whole world in his hand.

[00:04:46] And he will withhold nothing from us, no good thing from us. Then where does it become incorrect or improper for us to ask him for what it is we need?

[00:05:01] Now then you would have that person and say, well, he knows what you need. However, he tells us also to make our request known. That's it. Say something. Absolutely. I need you to open your mouth. I want to hear your voice. Yes.

[00:05:18] And I want you to come to me and ask me, and I want to be the Father that gives that to you.

[00:05:25] That's right. It's an outward expression, right? Because it's not that he doesn't know when Adam and Eve got into their screen. God said, Adam, where are you? Absolutely. Do you think he did? No. Right. Right. Because that wasn't a question of geographic. Absolutely.

[00:05:43] That was a question of obedience. Yes. Right. And so if he says he's not going to withhold anything from us, then the only fear we would have is if we're acting for something we know we shouldn't.

[00:05:54] He tells us, don't ask a miss. Yes. Right. And so I think where we begin to look at this text for so long, many have been under that hold of, oh, we're not supposed to question God or we're not supposed to ask God.

[00:06:11] Well, if he also says we have not because we ask not. He just told us don't ask a miss. That's right. In other words, don't ask for something you know that is not according to his word, he's willing his way.

[00:06:28] Right. As long as we have allowed ourselves to abide in him and he abide in us, we can ask what we will. Right?

[00:06:40] And then he told us when you ask believe. Yes. Right? So why would he give us the instruction and then the invite to ask if he did not intend for his children to ask him for anything.

[00:07:02] Yep. And you know that's a perfect segue to Psalm 37 verse 4, reading from the English standard version says, The light yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart simply stated when we're in right relationship with God, we understand what he wants for us.

[00:07:25] And he will give us desire to have those things and not the things of the world only. Absolutely, but the good news is he'll then give it to us.

[00:07:36] Right? He'll give you the desire and then he'll give it to you. Absolutely. And then on the other side, James 4 verse 3, reading from the new King James version is just what can swell us in.

[00:07:51] You ask and do not receive because you asked a miss that you may spend it on your own pleasures. This is an example of what happens when you don't understand God's will for your life.

[00:08:05] You ask for things that only benefit you without considering how it brings God glory or how it can be used to bless others. Absolutely.

[00:08:15] I think when we're in the place that we're in and we've been told this for so many years, we've been grom I said and big mama said and and so many times it's a matter of allowing ourselves to really go back in that word and begin to allow the word to speak directly to us.

[00:08:37] We're in a season now where we don't have anybody to have to stand in place for us anymore. Right? We don't have to have the King to go in and make a torment for us. He's saying we can come on to him. Right? He's say come on to me all that are leading and heavy, leading and I.

[00:08:53] And so that means you and that means you and that means you wherever you are it means that we can go to him and he is saying I'm giving you direct access. Yes, this is the cold to get in. You don't have to guess what that is anymore. He says I'm giving you the access code that you can come to me.

[00:09:14] And even if you don't feel that you're worthy with none of us are right we've all seen and come short of his glory. Yes, however he's saying I've also given you away to make your get yourself back into right standard with me now. I don't forget about that ask me what you need. That's right and I want to be totally transparent and say that because he's your father you can come when you man absolutely can say it got on man.

[00:09:44] I expected you to do this and you didn't and it that's not being disrespectful. That is being honest. That is being transparent because if you think about Job he let Job complain for almost what was that 11 12 chapters. Yes, absolutely before he finally okay.

[00:10:03] I'm telling you that he had no problem with him expressing that so when you have those frustrations, you can carry that to Lord it cash your cares upon him Jesus died to give you that access and so you can be confident and go and even when you're upset because he can sue that he will give you that piece that piece that surpasses all understanding comes from the surrender but sometimes that

[00:10:33] surrender comes with as a as a product of purge that I got to get it out. I said you know and there's and there's been times where I've gone through things in my life and I didn't want to hear any sermon I ain't want to talk to no preacher absolutely just wasn't feeling it because something happened that I expected them to help me with and he did not but you know the there's a saying that said life is live for but understood backwards right

[00:11:03] our spiritual growth happens that way too we're going through things and we don't like it and we don't like how it feels but by and by we look back and we understand it better

[00:11:14] Absolutely and we used to think that was just the same right and it was and it was cliche get one time it was a song back in the day right and so I think in today we want to understand what what I want people to get from that is many

[00:11:29] times we're now in a place where I can't live off of big mama and grandma I know that their prayers went up for me

[00:11:40] but we also are in a season now where we have to get down and get it for ourselves we can't allow ourselves to stay stagnated or to come up with excuses or

[00:11:52] justifications for why we're not or why we don't have and and I believe that sometimes the father is looking at us saying but if only you would ask me yes I'm just waiting you know we hear that story about how many gifts are sitting up there

[00:12:09] that we haven't even accessed yet because we have not asked it is not foolish to ask it's not frivolous to ask it is none of that is you taking the step of faith to say you know what God and let me say this too many of

[00:12:24] times people feel that because they've done so much in life that they can't ask for anything else I don't want to ask God for anything else he got me this but he didn't he didn't put a stop sign there that's right

[00:12:36] you have put your own stop sign there because he's saying as long as I'm giving you breath in your body and I'm steal your father I'm gonna continue to be your father and I am I've still given you access I didn't change

[00:12:49] what I said about you now because we changed right but he's saying regardless I'm saying product a son yeah product a daughter yes I know you thought you knew it I know you went left when I told

[00:13:04] you to go right I know you felt like you had a plan but guess what just come on back home ask me for what you want yes and let me be the father to you that I've purpose to be

[00:13:20] for your life wow that's that's that's that's huge yeah and and just understand that when we give him that level of candid in transparent conversation he can help us become the person

[00:13:35] and show us the person we need to be to have those things absolutely you know if you tell him father I want to be a Spanish consulate he's gonna say if you need to learn speak Spanish absolutely

[00:13:48] you know this is that we ask for it that we haven't even prepared for absolutely right but but when we share those things with our heart then the Holy Spirit has the ability to put those pieces

[00:13:58] in place in place absolutely right and we see those and it's like oh so that's what I need it but if you never say anything you know God's not gonna force himself absolutely not

[00:14:11] to force himself well you have free will and so what he even though he has a pre-desdination for your life there was a purpose that you were called here he's not gonna force you too

[00:14:21] absolutely and his word won't go come back void because if you don't do it with a hand though having to be like David and Solomon absolutely right because when he says you he means all of you

[00:14:31] that's every generation everything that's connected to you that's right so we really have to take that into consideration even when we go to him to ask for something because we may be asking

[00:14:43] with where we are and how we see ourselves today however remember how we see ourselves today is not how he sees us because he sees us as the finished product yes so we must keep in mind that when I

[00:14:58] ask God for something I have to consider who's connected to me yes you know we have to consider who's in my family because when God does a blessing he will bless for generations and so

[00:15:14] am I asking for something in that selfish mind said that I'm only thinking about me right now or when I come to him and ask I need to make sure that what I'm asking him for is not just for me

[00:15:29] in the moment but for who he has purpose me to be and the generations to come behind me wow so that is that is the clarion call from Dr. Cuswella Shaw that you have to grow spiritually absolutely

[00:15:46] understand how enlightened what she just said was that we move from understanding that yes God I need that money to make my mortgage payment but not because I want to stay in this house but this

[00:15:59] is the house where my daughter will be born and will go on to be a scientist and cure cancer. How about that? That is absolutely new and your grandchild now has that house.

[00:16:10] Absolutely and that's the thought we want to bring the people of God into is that we don't want a one-dimensional thought. Thought process right we want that process that says I'm thinking dimensions I'm thinking generations. Funnily absolutely and that's that's the God that we serve

[00:16:32] God is not a one-dimensional God and so when I hear that I'm saying so now after all of this we said what do you want it's easy to say what we don't want how many times you can ramble

[00:16:46] off I don't want that I don't want this I don't want that but do we stop to say well what is it that I really want? Yes brothers and sisters God welcomes us to bring everything to him in prayer

[00:17:00] and he desires a close and trusting relationship for us and hard here in this to his word when we are committed to living according to his commandments he assures us that he hears our prayers and provides guidance, comfort and support in all circumstances. I thank you for
