[00:01:14] And today we're diving into an important topic, finding balance between our spiritual and natural lives. In a world that constantly demands our attention and energy, how do we maintain our spiritual well-being while fulfilling our natural responsibilities? So we're going to take a look at that together.
[00:01:39] Our spiritual inspiration comes from Hebrews chapter 4 verses 9 through 11 and reading from the complete Jewish Bible, it reads, So first let's define what we mean by spiritual life and natural life. Our spiritual lives pertain to our relationship with God, our inner spiritual practices and eternal perspective.
[00:02:32] It involves prayer, worship, reading scripture, and living out our faith. On the other hand, our natural life involves our physical bodies, our work, our relationships, and daily responsibilities. Both are crucial, but finding the right balance can be challenging.
[00:02:55] Since we spend most of our day in our natural life, it is easier for us to prioritize things of this life. It doesn't mean our spiritual lives are a lower priority, but sometimes it's harder to give God the proper amount of time and focus
[00:03:14] to build a type of relationship he would like us to have. Our inspirational text reminds us of the importance of rest, a key component of balancing our spiritual and natural lives. God himself rested on his seventh day, setting an example for us.
[00:03:33] It's a reminder that we need to intentionally carve out time for spiritual rejuvenation, just as we do for physical rest or work. In our spiritual lives, rest means to reflect. To take time to not only study the word, but to meditate on it
[00:03:53] and allow the Holy Spirit to bring its meaning to you in fullness and truth. Through this rest, we also get rest from stress, anxiety, and the pressures that come with our natural lives. Rest in our natural lives, especially if you're an entrepreneur or a corporate manager,
[00:04:15] means taking time to turn off business. As an entrepreneur myself, I always have something to do and the weekends sometimes are the best time to catch up. But at what cost?
[00:04:30] Are we present when we're with our friends and family or are we thinking about things that we need to get done? Are we so busy, we miss important dates and events? So let's talk about some practical steps to achieve balance. 1. Prioritize your spiritual life
[00:04:52] Just as you schedule meetings and appointments, schedule time for God, whether it's morning devotions, a midday prayer break, or even reflections. Make it a non-negotiable part of your day. Jesus often withdrew from places to pray, as we see in Luke 5 and 16.
[00:05:13] And this helped him stay connected to the Father. 2. Integrate faith into your daily activities Find ways to integrate your faith into your daily routines. Listen to worship music and faith-based podcasts during your commute. Reflect on Bible verses while taking a walk.
[00:05:36] Discuss spiritual matters with your family or friends. Colossians 3 and 17 encourages us to do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, given thanks to God the Father through him. 3. Embrace the Sabbath Rest Rediscover the Sabbath principle. This isn't just about a day off work,
[00:06:01] but a time to disconnect from the busyness of life and reconnect with God. Use this time to rest, reflect, and recharge spiritually. Trust that God can manage your concerns while you are at rest, as Psalms 46 and 10 says, Be still and know that I am God.
[00:06:24] 4. Stay connected to community Engage with a community of believers, whether through church, small groups, or online communities. Surround yourself with people who encourage and support your spiritual journey. Hebrews 10 verses 24-25 reminds us to not give up meeting together, but to encourage one another.
[00:06:53] Step 5. Seek balance in work and in rest. Understand that both work and rest are important. Ecclesiastes 3 and 1 says, There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. Recognize the seasons in your life and adjust your focus accordingly.
[00:07:15] Work diligently when it's time to work, but don't neglect the need for rest and spiritual renewal. Brothers and sisters, finding balance between our spiritual and natural lives is a continuous journey. It requires intentionality, discipline, and grace. Remember, it's not about achieving perfection,
[00:07:38] but about making consistent effort to align our lives with God's design. I thank you for spending time with me on today, and I look forward to our time together on tomorrow. Until then, God bless.
