[00:00:41] Let us insist as I welcome you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to our discussion today, from wherever you are, and look forward to us rightly dividing the word of truth
[00:00:54] In 2 Timothy 2 and 15, it tells us to study to show that I self-approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth So how do you do that? What does it mean to show yourself a proof?
[00:01:12] Show yourself a proof unto God, suggest presenting oneself as someone who earnestly sought to understand and apply God's Word in your life The emphasis is on being a diligent and responsible student of Scripture, striving for a deeper understanding of God's truth and applying it with integrity
[00:01:36] The key word here is applying it James even tells us to not just be hears of the word but doers The phrase also implies accountability to God, indicating that individuals are called to demonstrate their commitment to God's approval through a faithful and knowledgeable handling of His Word
[00:01:58] By studying and rightly dividing the word of truth, believers can grow in their faith, live in accordance to God's teachings, and serve as effective witnesses to the truth of the gospel
[00:02:11] I know what you're going to ask me next, how do we know when we're rightly dividing the word of truth? In the Bible, the phrase word of truth is often used to refer to God's divine revelation, particularly his teachings, commandments and other gospel messages
[00:02:29] It signifies the reliability and authenticity of God's spoken and written Word, emphasizing the truthfulness and trustworthiness of God, His promises and His guidance So showing ourselves a proof is really making sure that we understand that we are in the effort business and God is in the result business
[00:02:53] He wants us to give every effort to understand what it is required to us on every level, whether it's the relationship between us and our family, us and our coworkers or even in the church
[00:03:10] God has a standard and we need to understand what that standard is, and studying is the way that we do And what I'd also like to point out is the difference between reading and studying
[00:03:24] We can read a chapter to try to remember and incorporate that into our lives, but studying those steps further
[00:03:34] Studying is when you take notes, it's when you use your commentaries, it's when you use your study Bible to give a deeper understanding through nuances and through information of context Where it was, when it was, what was going on and then the story itself
[00:03:55] By studying the Word, it gives us the opportunity to more easily move it into practical application in our lives Which brings glory to God and to all that encounter you
