The real you is about the journey and how you take that journey. It’s about the legacy you leave for those who were in your charge and how the versions of you bless others while you move through.
[00:00:00] Welcome to the Bible Speaks with your host, Elgin Carelock. The Bible Speaks is a daily podcast dedicated to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, rightly dividing the Word of Truth and learning how to apply it to our daily lives.
[00:00:55] You may contact Elgin at the address given at the end of the broadcast, and now here's Elgin. Brothers and sisters, I welcome you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, to another edition of the Bible Speaks.
[00:01:14] I heard a quote in a movie recently that stated, The way to become who you're supposed to be is to let go of who you think you are. That was a very profound statement on many levels.
[00:01:30] But today I wanted to discuss that from a spiritual perspective, with the topic titled The Real You. Our spiritual inspiration comes from Genesis. Chapter 12, verses 2 through 3, and reading from the The International Version, it reads,
[00:01:54] I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you and I will make your name great. And you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and whoever curses you, I will curse. And all people on earth will be blessed through you.
[00:02:19] As we grow from a child, the person we are is a compilation of the experiences we've had. And the emotions that were internalized as a result. All of the good times and bad provide the framework for how we interact with the world around us and other people.
[00:02:39] We may not like who we've become or maybe we like who we are more than we should. But until we come to the realization of our true purpose on earth, we never come close to the real us. Second Corinthians 5, verse 17, reading from the complete Jewish Bible, reads,
[00:03:04] therefore, if anyone is united with the Messiah, he is a new creation. The old has passed. Look, with his come, his fresh and new. From the time we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we become as Aeron was when God came to him in Genesis 12 and 1.
[00:03:29] We too have no idea where we are going, but we have the promises of God as delivered by Jesus to use as our strength as we continue to move. The new creation Paul is talking about in second Corinthians,
[00:03:45] is not a singular occurrence, but a series of new use. These versions of you are fueled by growth which in many cases are fueled by hard times and challenges. To a new believer or non-believer, the question of why God allows these trials when he could just have to
[00:04:09] Holy Spirit tell you what you need to know is valid. In my research and as the Holy Spirit has revealed to me, it's because God wants us to choose him and his will.
[00:04:23] The Bible makes it crystal clear how we can live the abundant life Jesus died to facilitate but we have to be willing to live the life necessary to have it.
[00:04:35] Unfortunately as we grow, so do the challenges from the forces that do not want us to go any further. This makes it very difficult to stay the course as the stakes get higher just as it was with Aeron.
[00:04:52] If we look at parts of his journey, he was called to leave all he knew at the age of 75 and go to a strange land. When he got there, the land was in a famine.
[00:05:07] He became afraid of how the king would act to surprise beauty and told her to say she was his sister. Which caused problems for the king. He had a conflict with his nephew, which led to light moving near Sodom.
[00:05:23] Lot was taking captive during a war of local kings and Aeron had to gather his trained men in rescue him. He was told he would have the son that he and Sarai desired but through all the challenges he faced to this point that did not happen.
[00:05:42] So he struggled with waiting. Sarai thought she would take matters into her own hands and give Aeron to her maid servant who did give him a son who named his male. What I'm getting at was signing all these trials is,
[00:05:58] each of them caused Aeron to grow to the next version of himself. And through those changes and others I did not mention, God affirmed his covenant with Aeron in Genesis 17 and changed his name to Abraham.
[00:06:16] We can go on with Abrams Trials from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah to request for him to sacrifice Isaac in Genesis 22. But I think you get my point. God promised Abraham that he would make him a great nation
[00:06:36] but that did not mean there were not requirements of growth, persistence, insistence and faith for that to occur. In fact the process took 685 years from when God made the promise to Abraham until it was realized with Joshua leading the children of Israel intercaning.
[00:07:01] The point I'm making brothers and sisters is that there is no real you. If you are a truly following God and being led by the Holy Spirit, there are many versions of you and those versions are based on how well we navigate this life
[00:07:20] while staying focused on what God has purposeed for our lives. This is why the Bible references our mind 96 times. We have to be diligent about what we let invade our thoughts because it manifests what version of you comes next.
[00:07:39] When we allow life circumstances to call us to do things that are outside the will of God, there are consequences. Not from a punishment point of view but from our father allowing those things that would normally be
[00:07:56] blocked by his grace to come to us. Just as Satan pointed out to God when they were discussing Joe, it is easy for us to praise and worship God when the hedges around us. When God allows Satan to get to us, there will be a new you created.
[00:08:16] Either it is one that begins to move back from God because the stakes are too high. Well one that says like Joe said in chapter 13 verse 15, though he slag me yet will I trust him. But I will maintain my own ways before him.
[00:08:38] Doesn't assist us to real you is about to journey and how you take that journey. It's about to legacy you leave for those who were in your charge and how the versions of you bless others while you move through. Understanding that your purpose was given because you're
[00:08:58] because you were uniquely built for this life. And by allowing the Holy Spirit to lead you even when you feel like you've lost yourself is a greatest blessing you can ever give you and all of the use to come.
