I want to encourage you to take the steps of repairing, rebuilding, and standing in the gap. These are not just actions we take in our own strength; they are part of a larger process where we partner with God in His work of healing and restoration.
[00:00:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to The Bible Speaks with your host Elgin Carelock.
[00:00:42] [SPEAKER_00]: The Bible Speaks is a daily podcast dedicated to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, rightly
[00:00:49] [SPEAKER_00]: dividing the Word of Truth and learning how to apply it to our daily lives.
[00:00:55] [SPEAKER_00]: You may contact Elgin at the address given at the end of the broadcast.
[00:01:00] [SPEAKER_00]: And now here's Elgin.
[00:01:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Brothers and sisters, I welcome you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
[00:01:09] [SPEAKER_01]: to another edition of The Bible Speaks where we explore the Word of God to find solutions
[00:01:16] [SPEAKER_01]: for life challenges.
[00:01:18] [SPEAKER_01]: And today I wanted to have a discussion with you as based on a discussion that I was
[00:01:27] [SPEAKER_01]: a part of at a men's conference a few weeks ago.
[00:01:33] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's a thought given by Dr. Darrell Brooks on our responsibilities to one another as believers
[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_01]: in Christ.
[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_01]: So the title of our discussion today will be Repair, Rebuild and Stand in the Gap.
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: And this message is inspired by 2 Chronicles 7 verse 14 and reading from the New International
[00:02:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Version it reads,
[00:02:25] [SPEAKER_01]: This powerful verse holds the key to addressing the brokenness we see around us in our households,
[00:02:33] [SPEAKER_01]: in schools and communities.
[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_01]: The primary thought today is that through building stronger relationships, humbling
[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_01]: ourselves and trusting God to heal our hearts and minds, we can solve many of the problems
[00:02:47] [SPEAKER_01]: we face.
[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_01]: We live in a time where division and brokenness are everywhere.
[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_01]: In our families, in our workplace, in the school yard and throughout our community we
[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_01]: see tension misunderstandings and even outright hostility.
[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Often we want to change but we don't know where to start.
[00:03:14] [SPEAKER_01]: 2 Chronicles 7 and 14 gives us the answer.
[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_01]: It starts with us, with God's people humbling themselves, seeking His face and turning
[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_01]: away from anything that separates us from Him.
[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_01]: The first step is repair.
[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Before we can rebuild, we must first repair what is broken.
[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_01]: This includes broken relationships, unresolved conflicts and wounds that have been left unattended.
[00:03:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Repairing involves humility, humbling ourselves to admit our own wrongs, seeking forgiveness
[00:03:55] [SPEAKER_01]: and extending grace to those who have hurt us.
[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_01]: In the context of our families this might mean taking the first step toward mending
[00:04:05] [SPEAKER_01]: a fractured relationship.
[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_01]: In our schools it could mean addressing the division between students or between teachers
[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_01]: and parents.
[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_01]: And in our communities it could mean stepping into bridge the gap between groups that
[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_01]: have been separated by differences in opinion, background, political preferences or belief.
[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Ephesians 4 and 32 reads,
[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other just as Christ God forgave you.
[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Repair begins with compassion and forgiveness.
[00:04:47] [SPEAKER_01]: If we are to stand in the gap for others, we must first repair what is broken in our own hearts
[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_01]: and relationships.
[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Once we commit to repairing what is broken, the next step is rebuilding.
[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Rebuilding means constructing something new and stronger on a foundation of reconciliation and trust.
[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Just as the physical walls of a city need to be rebuilt after destruction,
[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_01]: the relational walls in our families, schools and communities need to be restored through intentional action.
[00:05:22] [SPEAKER_01]: In the book of Nehemiah we see a great example of rebuilding.
[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Nehemiah saw the broken walls of Jerusalem and was deeply grieved.
[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_01]: He prayed and asked God for guidance, but noticed what happens next.
[00:05:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Nehemiah didn't just pray, he took action.
[00:05:42] [SPEAKER_01]: He led the effort to rebuild the walls despite opposition and obstacles.
[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_01]: In our lives, rebuilding relationships involves intentionality.
[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_01]: In our homes it means investing time and energy into our families,
[00:05:58] [SPEAKER_01]: having open, honest conversations, spending quality time together,
[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_01]: and working through conflicts with patience and love.
[00:06:07] [SPEAKER_01]: In schools it means fostering environments of respect and understanding,
[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_01]: creating spaces where students feel valued and teachers feel supported.
[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And in our communities it means building bridges between people of different backgrounds,
[00:06:25] [SPEAKER_01]: finding common ground and working together for the common good.
[00:06:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Romans 12 and 18 reminds us, if it is possible as far as it depends on you,
[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_01]: live at peace with everyone.
[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Rebuilding relationships is not just about solving conflicts,
[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_01]: it's about creating a culture of peace, love and cooperation that reflects God's heart for unity.
[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Finally, we're called to stand in the gap.
[00:06:59] [SPEAKER_01]: This phrase means to intercede for others, to be a bridge between the broken and the healer.
[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_01]: And to advocate for change where there is brokenness.
[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Standing in the gap requires both prayer and action.
[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_01]: 2 Chronicles 7 and 14 is a call to intercession.
[00:07:21] [SPEAKER_01]: God promises that if His people humble themselves in prayer, He will hear and heal the land.
[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Our role is to stand in the gap for those who are hurting, lost or struggling.
[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Whether it's praying for a loved one, advocating for students who feel marginalized
[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_01]: or seeking justice in our communities, we must be willing to step into the space
[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_01]: where there is pain and brokenness.
[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_01]: In Ezekiel 22 and 30, God says,
[00:07:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I look for someone among them who would build up the wall
[00:07:57] [SPEAKER_01]: and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it,
[00:08:04] [SPEAKER_01]: but I found no one.
[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_01]: God is always looking for people who are willing to stand in the gap.
[00:08:11] [SPEAKER_01]: He's looking for people who will intercede for their families, schools and communities,
[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_01]: people who will be difference makers.
[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Standing in the gap is about seeing beyond ourselves.
[00:08:25] [SPEAKER_01]: It's about realizing that we are part of something much bigger than our own lives.
[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_01]: When we take the time to pray for others, to advocate for those who have no voice
[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_01]: and to be light in dark places, we're partnering with God in His plan to heal and restore.
[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_01]: We may feel like the problems are too big or that we don't have the power to make a difference,
[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_01]: but remember what God said in 2 Chronicles 7 and 14,
[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_01]: if my people will humble themselves and pray.
[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_01]: God is not asking for a nation to change overnight.
[00:09:03] [SPEAKER_01]: He's asking for His people to start with prayer and trust in Him to do the rest.
[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_01]: When we take that step of faith, God moves in ways we could never imagine.
[00:09:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Brothers and sisters, I want to encourage you to take the steps of repairing, rebuilding and standing in the gap.
[00:09:24] [SPEAKER_01]: These are not just actions we take in our own strength.
[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_01]: They are part of a larger process where we partner with God in His work of healing and restoration.
[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_01]: When we humble ourselves, seek His face and turn from our own ways,
[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_01]: God promises to heal our land. This healing begins with us in our homes, schools and communities.
[00:09:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Trust God to heal your heart, to repair the broken areas in your life
[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_01]: and to guide you as you rebuild and stand in the gap for others.
[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Remember, God doesn't ask us to solve every problem on our own.
[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_01]: He calls us to be faithful, to take the first step and to trust that He will do the rest.
[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I thank you for spending time with me on today and I look forward to our conversation on tomorrow.
[00:10:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Until then, God bless.
