Praying in the name of Jesus is central to effective prayer. It encompasses recognizing Jesus’ authority and our access to God through Him, aligning our requests with God’s will, affirming our personal relationship and dependency on Christ, and praying with confidence that stems from His promises. Ultimately, it is a practice that deepens our communion with God, enhances the impact of our prayers, and reflects our commitment to living in accordance with the teachings and example of Jesus Christ.

[00:00:00] Let us pray, Grant together on our knees. Let us pray, Grant together on our knees.

[00:00:14] When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun, oh Lord, ever see all the need.

[00:00:27] Welcome to the Bible Speaks with Elgin Carelock. The Bible Speaks is a weekly ministry of harvest international.

[00:00:33] Our prayer is that the Bible Speaks will encourage you in your study of God's Word.

[00:00:38] You will be able to contact Elgin at the address given at the end of this broadcast. And now here's Elgin.

[00:00:46] At the name of Jesus, every knee should bow of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth.

[00:00:55] And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

[00:01:03] Brothers and sisters, I welcome you from wherever you are, whenever you are, and whoever you are,

[00:01:10] to this discussion of words of inspiration.

[00:01:15] If you've been with us this week, you know that we have been discussing the principles of effective prayer.

[00:01:23] And on today, we are going to discuss praying in the name of Jesus.

[00:01:31] Our Scripture of Inspiration comes from John 14 verse 6, which reads,

[00:01:39] Jesus saith unto them, I am the way, the truth and the life.

[00:01:46] No man cometh unto the Father but by me.

[00:01:50] Bringing the name of Jesus should be more than a ritualistic phrase at the end of our prayers.

[00:01:56] It should embody a profound truth and spiritual posture that significantly impacts the efficacy of our prayers.

[00:02:06] It acknowledges that Jesus is the mediator between humanity and God the Father.

[00:02:13] Through His life, death and resurrection, Jesus has granted believers access to the Father, enabling us to come boldly before the throne of grace.

[00:02:24] Therefore, invoking His name in prayer is an affirmation of this granted access and authority.

[00:02:33] To pray in Jesus' name is to pray for things that are consistent with His character, teachings and purposes.

[00:02:41] It implies a desire for our prayers to align with God's will rather than our own selfish desires.

[00:02:49] This alignment ensures that our prayers are not just expressions of personal wishes, but are requested further the kingdom of God

[00:02:58] and reflects His righteous desires for us and the world.

[00:03:03] Otherwise, you may be praying a miss.

[00:03:06] The concept of praying a miss is touched upon in the Bible notably in James 4 verse 3 where it is written.

[00:03:15] You ask and do not receive because you ask a miss that you may spend it on your pleasures.

[00:03:23] To pray a miss means to pray with wrong motives, focusing on selfish desires or material gains rather than seeking God's will and the kingdom.

[00:03:35] When we pray in the name of Jesus, we are saying we understand who He is and what His purpose was on earth.

[00:03:44] Jesus' life was characterized by unwavering obedience to God the Father.

[00:03:51] In John 6 verse 38, he says, for I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of Him who sent me.

[00:04:01] This included enduring the cross for the joy set before him highlighting his submission to God the Father's will even in suffering.

[00:04:13] Jesus himself promised that whatever is asked in His name would be done by the Father which is found in John 14 verses 13 to 14.

[00:04:24] This promise gives believers confidence when praying not because of our own merits but because of Jesus' righteousness and His standing with the Father.

[00:04:36] praying in His name reminds us that our confidence is rooted in Him and His finished work on the cross.

[00:04:44] In the context of spiritual warfare, praying in the name of Jesus is a declaration of His victory over sin and death.

[00:04:53] It is a powerful tool against the forces of darkness asserting the supremacy of Christ over all principalities and powers.

[00:05:03] The name of Jesus carries authority over demonic forces making prayer in His name crucial for spiritual victory.

[00:05:13] Brothers and sisters, once again I thank you for joining me on today and I tell you to be bold and be confident and pray in the name of Jesus and expect it to happen.

[00:05:24] I look forward to our conversation on tomorrow and until then God bless.

[00:05:30] I have wandered far away from God.

[00:05:39] This program is cared for by listeners who care, your prayers and financial investment in this ministry helps to keep the good news on the air.

[00:05:59] Again that's Harvest International Post Office Box 6690 Ocala, Florida 34478.
