When we choose unity over division, love over hatred, and compassion over indifference, we reflect God’s heart for the world and fulfill His purpose for us as His people.

[00:01:02] Brothers and sisters, I welcome you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit to another edition of The Bible Speaks, where we explore the timeless truth of Scripture and how they guide us in our daily lives.
[00:01:17] And today's episode is titled, One Nation Under God. Our spiritual inspiration comes from 1 Corinthians 12, verse 12. And reading from the New International Version, it reads,
[00:01:33] Just as a body, though one has many parts, but all its many parts form one body. So it is with Christ.
[00:01:46] This verse speaks to the unity that God designed for his people. Although we are different, whether it's race, nationality, personality, or talents, we are all part of one body created in the image of God.
[00:02:01] The primary thought of our discussion being, we must put aside our differences in order to build and strengthen the world around us.
[00:02:10] The foundation of our unity begins with the fact that we were all created in the image of God.
[00:02:17] Genesis 1, verse 27 says,
[00:02:20] So God created mankind in his own image. In the image of God, he created them. Male and female, he created them.
[00:02:30] This simple yet profound truth reminds us that, despite our many differences, we share the same divine origin.
[00:02:39] Every person, regardless of race, ethnicity, or background, carries the image of God.
[00:02:46] This means that every individual is worthy of respect, dignity, and love.
[00:02:53] However, in today's world, we often focus on what divides us rather than what unites us.
[00:03:00] We highlight our differences, whether it's culture, politics, or even social.
[00:03:07] And we allow those differences to create division.
[00:03:11] But God's design is for us to embrace our differences while recognizing that we are all part of the same body.
[00:03:19] In 1 Corinthians 12 and 12, Paul uses the metaphor of the body to explain this concept.
[00:03:26] Just as the body has many different parts that work together for the good of the whole,
[00:03:32] so we, as people, are meant to work together, bringing our unique strengths and perspective to build something greater.
[00:03:41] To truly live as one nation under God, we must adopt the mindset of love and compassion.
[00:03:47] These are the tools that help us overcome division.
[00:03:51] 1 John 4, verses 7-8, again reading from the New International Version, reads,
[00:04:27] Dear Friends,
[00:04:28] And see the heart of the person standing in front of us.
[00:04:31] We begin to understand that the image of God is reflected in every person,
[00:04:37] even in those who may look, think, or act differently.
[00:04:42] But love isn't passive.
[00:04:44] It's active.
[00:04:46] It requires us to take steps toward unity.
[00:04:50] It asks us to forgive offenses,
[00:04:52] to extend grace,
[00:04:54] to show kindness,
[00:04:56] even when it's difficult.
[00:04:58] Colossians 3 and 14 tells us,
[00:05:03] And over all these virtues,
[00:05:05] put on love,
[00:05:06] which binds them all together in perfect unity.
[00:05:10] When we approach others with love and compassion,
[00:05:14] we pave the way for reconciliation,
[00:05:16] healing,
[00:05:17] and unity.
[00:05:18] This applies not only to personal relationships,
[00:05:21] but also to larger communities and even nations.
[00:05:26] A unified community is a strong community,
[00:05:29] whether it's in our neighborhoods,
[00:05:32] in our workplace,
[00:05:33] or places of worship.
[00:05:35] Unity strengthens the bonds between us
[00:05:38] and enables us to work toward a common goal.
[00:05:42] Ephesians 4 and 3 says,
[00:05:44] Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit
[00:05:47] through the bond of peace.
[00:05:50] Peace and unity go hand in hand.
[00:05:53] When we are united,
[00:05:54] we can work through challenges together.
[00:05:58] Division weakens us,
[00:05:59] but unity strengthens us.
[00:06:02] When we recognize that we are all part of the same body,
[00:06:06] God's creation,
[00:06:07] we can come together to build stronger,
[00:06:10] more resilient communities.
[00:06:11] This is especially important
[00:06:14] in times of crisis or difficulty.
[00:06:16] When we are united,
[00:06:18] we can support each other
[00:06:19] and uplift those who are struggling.
[00:06:22] In practical terms,
[00:06:24] this means being intentional
[00:06:25] about building relationships with people
[00:06:27] who may be different from us.
[00:06:29] It means reaching across barriers of race,
[00:06:32] culture,
[00:06:33] or economic status
[00:06:34] to create connections
[00:06:36] that are rooted in mutual respect
[00:06:38] and shared humanity.
[00:06:40] One of the greatest challenges we face today
[00:06:43] is the temptation
[00:06:44] to let our differences become obstacles.
[00:06:48] But as believers,
[00:06:49] we are called to put aside these differences
[00:06:51] in favor of unity.
[00:06:53] This doesn't mean that we ignore
[00:06:55] or diminish our unique perspectives
[00:06:58] or identities.
[00:06:59] Rather,
[00:07:00] it means that we prioritize
[00:07:02] our shared identities
[00:07:03] as children of God.
[00:07:06] Romans 12 and 18
[00:07:07] offers practical advice.
[00:07:10] If it is possible,
[00:07:12] as far as it depends on you,
[00:07:14] live at peace with everyone.
[00:07:17] This verse reminds us
[00:07:19] that unity and peace
[00:07:20] are not just ideals to hope for.
[00:07:22] There are actions we must take.
[00:07:25] As individuals,
[00:07:26] we have the responsibility
[00:07:27] to pursue peace and unity
[00:07:29] wherever we are.
[00:07:31] This can happen
[00:07:32] in a small,
[00:07:33] everyday interaction
[00:07:34] where we are choosing
[00:07:36] kindness over criticism,
[00:07:38] seeking to understand
[00:07:39] rather than to judge,
[00:07:41] and working towards solutions
[00:07:43] that benefit
[00:07:44] the greater good.
[00:07:46] In today's world,
[00:07:48] where division
[00:07:48] often seems to be the norm,
[00:07:50] we are called to be agents
[00:07:52] of unity and reconciliation.
[00:07:54] We must lead the way
[00:07:55] by modeling
[00:07:56] what it looks like
[00:07:57] to put aside
[00:07:58] our differences
[00:07:59] and work together
[00:08:00] to build stronger relationships,
[00:08:02] communities,
[00:08:03] and nations.
[00:08:05] As we consider
[00:08:06] the message of
[00:08:07] 1 Corinthians 12 and 12,
[00:08:09] let's reflect on
[00:08:10] what it means
[00:08:11] to live
[00:08:12] as one nation
[00:08:13] under God.
[00:08:14] God created each of us
[00:08:16] with a purpose
[00:08:17] and value,
[00:08:18] and though we may differ
[00:08:19] in appearance,
[00:08:20] culture,
[00:08:21] or opinions,
[00:08:22] we are all part
[00:08:23] of his creation.
[00:08:25] As believers,
[00:08:26] we are called
[00:08:26] to live out this truth
[00:08:28] by treating each other
[00:08:29] with love,
[00:08:30] respect,
[00:08:31] and compassion.
[00:08:33] Brothers and sisters,
[00:08:35] the strength
[00:08:35] of our communities,
[00:08:37] churches,
[00:08:37] and other nations
[00:08:38] depends on our abilities
[00:08:40] to unite
[00:08:41] under God's principles
[00:08:42] of love and justice.
[00:08:44] When we choose
[00:08:45] unity over division,
[00:08:47] love over hatred,
[00:08:48] and compassion
[00:08:49] over indifference,
[00:08:51] we reflect God's heart
[00:08:53] for the world
[00:08:53] and fulfill his purpose
[00:08:55] for us as his people.
[00:08:58] I thank you for spending time
[00:09:00] with me on today,
[00:09:02] and I look forward
[00:09:03] to our conversation
[00:09:04] on tomorrow.
[00:09:05] Until then,
[00:09:06] God bless.
