Join me and my guest Audley McLean in a discussion on the great gift we were given when Christ rose from the dead.
[00:00:00] Let us pray, Grant together on our knees. Let us pray, Grant together on our knees.
[00:00:13] When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun, oh Lord, ever see all the need.
[00:00:26] Welcome to the Bible Speaks with Elgin Carelock. The Bible Speaks is a weekly ministry of
[00:00:32] Harvest International. Our prayer is that the Bible Speaks will encourage you in your
[00:00:37] study of God's Word. You will be able to contact Elgin at the address given at the end
[00:00:42] of this broadcast. And now, here's Elgin.
[00:00:45] For as by one man's disobedient, many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one,
[00:00:53] shall many be made righteous. Brothers and sisters, I welcome you today on this Resurrection
[00:01:00] Sunday to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus to Christ. And I have a special treat today.
[00:01:10] We have Adley McLean, our sage, our wisdom, our mentor here with us today to speak
[00:01:20] on the topic of because he got up. And we will be basing it from Luke 24.
[00:01:29] Because he got up, I just said, joy to be back in the studio with you. And Elgin, I believe
[00:01:39] it. This is a major point in the entire Jesus ministry. He came to be resurrected. Because
[00:01:49] if he didn't rise from the dead, Paul said we would be all wiped out. We would be pushing
[00:01:56] vanity. First Corinthians chapter 15, he said, if Christ is not the risen, then we're
[00:02:04] pushing His vein, everything. There are benefits beyond our ability to comprehend in
[00:02:14] that Jesus he died, to pay the penalty for our sins. He rose to give us the life that
[00:02:23] God has promised us. I think of the resurrection kind of like this. When the Lord Jesus died,
[00:02:33] He wrote the check. He wrote the amount of life everlasting. But when he rose from the dead,
[00:02:43] he signed it. And without the signature is not worth anything. But thank God, he rose.
[00:02:51] That is excellent. So I wanted to just read a few verses from Luke 24. It reads, now upon
[00:02:59] the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the subpochor, bringing
[00:03:06] the spices which they had prepared and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled
[00:03:12] away from the subpochor. And they entered in and found not the body of Lord Jesus. And it
[00:03:21] came to pass as they were perplexed there about, behold, two men stood by them in shining
[00:03:28] garments. And as they were afraid and bowed down their face to the earth, they said unto them,
[00:03:35] why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here. He is risen. That is good news for us.
[00:03:45] Because it begins a new covenant. It begins the grace dispensation that we are under right now.
[00:03:54] That now that Jesus shared blood, paid for our sins. It's about our obedience. Because in the word,
[00:04:04] Jesus said that he came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. When he got up,
[00:04:12] he got up with all power. He got up with death being defeated. Amen. From there, we have
[00:04:20] all of the fulfillment of the promises that preceded it.
[00:04:24] You know, Elgin, I think what you just said, that the angels said he's not here. And I think
[00:04:32] that so many people, unfortunately, who are religious and trusting, kind of going back to the grave
[00:04:44] to find life. The things that Jesus died to give us, victory over are having victory over us all.
[00:04:55] We've got to be careful. We don't get caught in that same bag. It's a new beginning, a new life,
[00:05:02] a new everything. And because he is alive, we have his life. And he promised that Holy Spirit
[00:05:13] was coming to reproduce this new life in us. As Rappal says, I want to know him and the power
[00:05:24] of his resurrection. But there's a price to pay. Salvation is free. But the discipleship process
[00:05:35] is not free. It's daily dying and daily apprehending all for which he went to Calvary.
[00:05:46] It is why the Lord's Prayer says, give us this day our daily bread because every day is a new day.
[00:05:55] Amen. And also when you consider the story of that death being told by Luke with the women going
[00:06:04] to the tomb to presumably add the spices to the body as is in Jewish culture. So they didn't expect
[00:06:13] the resurrection even though Jesus spoke of it. Amen. And but they were being faithful
[00:06:19] in what their traditions were when they received a awakening, if you will, of the realization that
[00:06:28] God is not a man that he would lie, right? If if he's given his son and his son will be raised,
[00:06:34] then he will be raised. Amen. And you know, again, you said they brought, they came bringing the spices.
[00:06:43] That was wrong. But they didn't understand that the kind of offering that
[00:06:51] Jesus demands of his followers is Romans chapter 12 verses 1 and 2. IBC should therefore brother
[00:07:01] sisters are included. You present your bodies are living sacrifice. They were going with the wrong
[00:07:08] sacrifice, the wrong offering and they were going to the wrong place. He is not there.
[00:07:15] He's risen and our bodies are daily to be laid down as sacrifices. What does that mean?
[00:07:25] My body, well we know it doesn't mean going and dying on the cross or offering our physical body.
[00:07:31] How do you break that down so a new believer and unbeliever can begin to understand?
[00:07:40] I look at it from the standpoint of our flesh. We are a spiritual being having a natural experience
[00:07:50] and our natural outer covering and the world sense and the world view are at many times
[00:07:58] diametrically opposed to the word of God. And so when we die daily, we are telling our flesh
[00:08:04] who wants to be satisfied now, who wants what it wants now. It doesn't care what the word says
[00:08:10] or what anyone else says. But we have to be able to bring it under subjugation of God's word.
[00:08:17] And that comes through many times through prayer and meditation and fasting because it knows you
[00:08:25] as well as you know you. And so if we're going to let Jesus be Lord of our lives,
[00:08:31] then we have to allow him to direct our path. Amen, amen. You know
[00:08:37] the devil knows what we're about. He doesn't want it because he wants to take God's glory.
[00:08:44] That's in fact why he was cast out of heaven. He wanted to be God and he wants you to believe
[00:08:52] he wants me to believe that he can make us into God and there are some gods,
[00:08:59] anti-Christ. Babes says there are many anti-Christs and we sometimes get the impression
[00:09:08] that it's just a down and out, the murderer, the rapist. They're the only ones who are
[00:09:16] allowing Satan to have his way. But you know what? The religious crowd because Satan approached Eve,
[00:09:23] didn't he? And he wanted a religious thing. He says you can't be like God. God knows that.
[00:09:30] So he was making God a liar and when we try to be God, to be in charge, to run our own lives,
[00:09:41] we are saying God is dead. I'm alive. God's a liar. I am the truth speaker and there is a lot of religious
[00:09:52] mumble, jumbo. It's not mumble, jumbo. It's serious stuff that's leading people away from
[00:10:00] Christ wants us to be daily dying, daily living in the power of the resurrection.
[00:10:09] And even when we consider in the word where it says, if we have faith the size of a
[00:10:15] mustard seed, what he's demonstrating there is the magnitude of the power that we have access to
[00:10:23] when he got up. He said, if your faith is that small you can move mountains. That means that
[00:10:30] there's nothing here on earth that he can't do. And so we have to be able to bring ourselves
[00:10:37] to the point where we trust him enough to move when we don't see.
[00:10:42] Very man, well Colossians chapter three says the power that raised Jesus from the,
[00:10:50] let's stop it. And just think about the power that raised Jesus from the dead.
[00:10:56] Isn't he? If the power of the Holy Spirit is there now let that power have fully
[00:11:03] effect, fully impact on Elgin, on Orlay, on all who listen because God says you are not a
[00:11:12] pauper. You're not impotent. You are alive in the power of the resurrection but it's hard to
[00:11:22] me, it's hard for you to grasp that God means what he says and Paul understood it I believe.
[00:11:32] He says he's seeking after it. It's a daily seeking and a daily dying and a daily living in the
[00:11:39] power of that resurrection. It means, it means that I have to be prepared like Jesus was
[00:11:48] to leave some of the things that are natural and beautiful and they seem that they belong to us.
[00:11:57] He says sacrifice, sacrifice that sacrifice that and I be power in you.
[00:12:03] And having to have the resolve to stay the course. Yes.
[00:12:09] Understanding that Jesus was truly God and man and he could have commanded allegiance of angels
[00:12:20] to avoid going to the cross but nevertheless he realized that his fathers will had to be done
[00:12:27] and he was the fulfillment and still operated in pure excellence. Sometimes the Holy Spirit touches
[00:12:36] our and pricks our spirit for something in our heart but we may perceive it as too big,
[00:12:41] too difficult and so we're slow to move and then wonder why life is more arduous than it is normally.
[00:12:52] And you know we are so prone to set Easter aside as a religious celebration with, I mean we as
[00:13:02] today's Christians, today's disciples tend to want to be ceremonial and all of the same.
[00:13:10] I have nothing against all the great music but it's more than that. It's sacrifice of our lives,
[00:13:21] resurrection of his life in us. Yes. And so as we contemplate this resurrection day
[00:13:32] I believe that you have a closing word for the people.
[00:13:36] Jesus said in Matthew 11, 28 come unto me all ye that labor and heavy laden and I will give you rest
[00:13:48] when he got up it was to give us that rest. If you study the Old Testament and you see all of the
[00:13:56] processes that were necessary for sacrifices and for atonement, for all of our sins you grasped
[00:14:04] the full magnitude of what was done when Jesus said it is finished. We have the ability to go
[00:14:12] to him and then through the Father with simply being obedience.
[00:14:19] He boosts ten says this man, this man when he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever sat down.
[00:14:28] He's done it and he wants us to imitate him day by day. God granted this maybe so for Jesus' sake.
[00:14:48] This program is cared for by listeners who care. Your prayers and financial investment in this
[00:14:59] ministry helps to keep the good news on the air. We look forward to hearing from you
