[00:02:51] to keep today's show super short because it is a holiday. Let's get ready to dive into today's

[00:02:58] content the power of dreaming big for entrepreneurs. The power of dreaming big for entrepreneurs and I

[00:03:05] want to start off with this foundational quote dreams are the foundation of your results and

[00:03:12] your future. Dreams are the foundation of your results and your future. Your results are based

[00:03:21] on your dreams. Your future is based on your dreams so don't ever underestimate the power

[00:03:27] of dreaming big for entrepreneurs. So today we're going to talk about the power of dreams for

[00:03:32] entrepreneurs and I'm going to give you five tips and strategies to harness and protect those dreams

[00:03:38] so you can become a successful entrepreneur but first I want to start out with the power of dreams

[00:03:45] and I was doing some research and I found that there were many multi-million dollar companies

[00:03:51] fortune 500 companies that actually began in people's garages and I want to give you a couple

[00:03:58] of these names. Remember it all starts with a thought it starts with a dream and then it starts

[00:04:04] with the thought how am I going to make this or bring this to fruition so let's start off with

[00:04:09] google and I'm just going to read these brief descriptions Stanford University graduates Larry

[00:04:14] Page and Sergey Brin used Susan Wohicke's garage in September of 1988. They worked day and night

[00:04:21] for several months and developed what we know today as Google. The main purpose of Google was

[00:04:27] to organize and maintain information on one platform so that it's available to ordinary

[00:04:32] people around the world in a garage Google. The next one is Apple. In 1976 Steve Wozniak created

[00:04:41] the first Apple computer. He then partnered with the late Steve Jobs and Ronald Wayne to launch

[00:04:47] Apple Computer Company from Jobs' parents garage. Next we have Jeff Bezos and Amazon. So in 1994

[00:04:56] Jeff Bezos founded Amazon as an online bookstore. At the time his garage in Bellevue Washington was

[00:05:03] office warehouse and everything else. He sold his first book in July of 1995. Today Amazon is the

[00:05:11] world's largest online realtor. Everybody knows Amazon. The next company started in a garage is

[00:05:18] Mattel. Most of you guys know Mattel as a toy company all right so in 1945 Elliot Handler and

[00:05:25] his wife Ruth partnered with Harold Mattson and began building photo frames from their workshop

[00:05:31] while frame making was successful they decided to add dial furniture by using the remaining

[00:05:37] materials from picture frames. So what originally began as a side business soon developed into one

[00:05:43] of the biggest dial making companies in the world today. So Mattel makes dials and also some toys.

[00:05:50] And lastly we're going to talk about Disney. So Disney is the world's largest media conglomerate

[00:05:56] and it all began in the summer of 1923 in a garage belonging to Robert Disney Walt Disney's

[00:06:03] uncle. So the power of dreaming big for entrepreneurs. All of these concepts started as a thought

[00:06:11] then they became a dream and they actually became true. So you have to understand and recognize the

[00:06:18] power of dreaming big for entrepreneurs. So let's look at five tips and strategies to harness and

[00:06:24] protect those dreams so you can make those dreams into a reality. Tip number one understand those

[00:06:32] dreams were given specifically to you not anyone else. Understand those dreams were given specifically

[00:06:39] to you not anyone else. So don't expect others to understand or even believe in your dreams

[00:06:46] because they weren't given to them. Many times we're so excited when we have a dream or an idea

[00:06:52] you know a business or entrepreneurial idea we want to share it with people right.

[00:06:58] But sometimes that can backfire on you because a lot of people don't understand your dreams because

[00:07:05] they weren't given to them. So they probably have their own dreams that they're thinking about that

[00:07:10] they may never start because very few of us try to harness those dreams and turn it into something

[00:07:16] tangible or turn it into something real. So understand those dreams were given specifically

[00:07:22] to you and not anyone else. So don't get upset when other people don't understand or don't get it.

[00:07:30] They weren't given that dream and I'm not going to get religious on you but what I will say is

[00:07:36] the creator whoever you feel your God force is if you even think you have a God force be it you know

[00:07:42] God, Jesus, Yeshua, Buddha whoever your God force is you were given certain characteristics and

[00:07:50] certain dreams. So understand that those dreams were given specifically to you and they weren't

[00:07:56] given to somebody else. So don't expect other people to understand okay. Don't look for validation

[00:08:03] from other people when it's one of your dreams because they haven't had that dream. It's

[00:08:08] specifically your dream. Tip number two guys protect your dreams. Protect your dreams. As I

[00:08:16] mentioned earlier we're so excited when we have an idea we have a dream that we want to share it

[00:08:20] with people but not all your dreams are meant to be shared guys. You got to use discernment about

[00:08:25] who if anybody you share your dreams with. So there are many people out there that will become

[00:08:31] envious or jealous of you because you're trying to live your dreams and they not may not be able

[00:08:38] to do that or they may be scared to take that step. So protect your dreams guys. Sometimes your dreams

[00:08:44] are too big for your family and even loved ones to comprehend and this has happened to me. I told

[00:08:51] people years ago you know before I left corporate America what my dreams are building businesses

[00:08:58] and people looked at me and a lot of them laughed okay. Then a mentor of mine he pulled my coattail

[00:09:03] and he basically said man look you got to protect your dreams man. You don't share your dreams with

[00:09:10] everybody okay. Once again these dreams that we're thinking of other people think that they're too

[00:09:16] big to even accomplish and what happens then they bring in the negativity aspect. Oh that's ridiculous

[00:09:22] you're never going to be able to do that. Why don't you just go stay at your job whatever it is

[00:09:28] you want to protect your dreams okay. So not all your dreams are meant to be shared that's number

[00:09:34] two. Number three you can show them better than you can tell them. You can show them better than

[00:09:41] you can tell them. So this is something I had to learn the hard way because I was sharing my

[00:09:46] entrepreneurial dreams with my wife when we first got married and she is not an entrepreneur.

[00:09:53] She's you know she'll do little side hustles to make money but she's not interested in building

[00:09:57] businesses. So as a novice entrepreneur I used to make mistakes and I would share things with her

[00:10:03] yeah I think you know in the next six months I'll be at this stage then in the next nine months I'll

[00:10:09] be at this stage not knowing that entrepreneurship is unpredictable and so when I tell my wife those

[00:10:16] things those are some of the things that she's expecting and she's saying well you know oh how

[00:10:21] come you're not at this stage yet and it was like we're speaking two totally different languages.

[00:10:26] So keep your head down work in silence and let your actions speak for themselves. So when people see

[00:10:34] the money coming in they see the change in in your surroundings or whatever you can show them better

[00:10:40] than you can tell them. So it's better to be silent and then let them ask you about your dreams

[00:10:45] after they see that you're making some traction and they see that you're being successful. Another

[00:10:51] example was when I had my first mortgage business and one of my other college buddies he was in

[00:10:58] sales and a lot of times he would stop by the office and he would see how the office was growing

[00:11:04] and he was seeing that we were making progress and doing things and it got so enticing to him

[00:11:11] that he actually asked to become a partner and we ended up bringing him on about a year down the

[00:11:15] road. But once again you can show them better than you can tell them. So when somebody else tells

[00:11:23] people about yo Jay is building his business that hits a lot differently than you tooting your own

[00:11:28] horn. So once again somebody else is validating that so you can show them better than you can

[00:11:35] tell them guys because you can tell them everything right and it doesn't matter until they see that

[00:11:40] those results it's not going to make a difference and what's going to happen guys is you're going

[00:11:46] to get some feedback that's probably going to be negative and that is not going to help you

[00:11:51] in your journey to becoming a successful entrepreneur. Speaking of negativity that's actually a part of

[00:11:58] tip number four don't subject your dreams to negative people or negative energy. Don't subject your

[00:12:04] dreams to negative people or negative energy. It's going to kill your business it's going to kill your

[00:12:10] vibe right so building a business is hard enough so don't subject your dreams to negativity by

[00:12:16] discussing your dreams with negative people. You know there's certain types of people out there

[00:12:22] that are just negative in their natural state right so other things you want to do you want to

[00:12:29] find a place to work on your dreams that is conducive for success and has positive energy

[00:12:35] like a we work space or a shared office space where you have like-minded people around you

[00:12:40] with positive energy. It's real guys I don't know if you believe it or not but there's positive

[00:12:46] and negative energy okay so don't subject your dreams to negative people or negative energy

[00:12:52] put yourself in a situation that's conducive for success okay sometimes you gotta you gotta

[00:13:00] weed people out and we'll talk about that in a minute okay there's some people that don't need

[00:13:06] to be around you when you're starting your business. Now I told my wife this a long time ago

[00:13:11] because it took her a while to understand that I'm an entrepreneur by heart that's how I was built

[00:13:17] and so I used to tell her if you can't say something nice then please don't say anything at

[00:13:22] all. I got enough negativity you know in my own head trying to see if I can be a successful

[00:13:28] entrepreneur and there's a difference between your spouse partner or your loved ones tolerating you

[00:13:34] and supporting you okay tolerating somebody is saying yeah okay all right whatever man go ahead

[00:13:41] do your thing supporting is totally different so number four don't subject your dreams to negative

[00:13:47] people or negative energy and number five there's nothing wrong with dreaming big but starting small

[00:13:55] there's nothing wrong with dreaming big but starting small you have to understand that you

[00:14:01] have to build a foundation first for anything to grow big okay so you build a skyscraper

[00:14:08] you're going to have to go deep and build a longer a deeper foundation to build that high right

[00:14:15] remember there's steps to success so set realistic expectations for your business always start slow

[00:14:21] and get proof of concept for your business it is a process and you're not going to be able to skip

[00:14:28] steps okay so those are the five tips when it comes to the power of dreaming big for entrepreneurs

[00:14:36] don't let anybody take away your dreams guys the quote I started with our dreams are the foundation

[00:14:43] of your results and future dreams are the foundation for your results and future if nobody

[00:14:52] has a dream if you don't think that you can better yourself you know say you grew up in poverty

[00:15:00] you lived in an impoverished atmosphere if you don't think or you don't dream that there's something

[00:15:05] better you're basically you're creating your result or your future right there that's why

[00:15:11] you never kill kids dreams now this is something my wife and I used to talk about all the time

[00:15:18] your dreams have to be realistic based on your capability so just because you like animals doesn't

[00:15:25] mean that you can be a veterinarian right so you have to understand your capabilities and limitations

[00:15:32] I used to tell my kids nobody is great at everything you have to understand and find out

[00:15:37] what you're great at and then you have to use that or utilize that to get where you need to be

[00:15:44] now of course you can always improve in different areas but there's certain things that are innate

[00:15:50] in you that are part of your inner being your characteristics your qualities so if I know

[00:15:56] that I'm horrible in math which I'm not it was actually one of my favorite subjects I'm probably

[00:16:02] not going to be an engineer okay if I can't do you know quantum physics I'm probably not going

[00:16:09] to be a physicist so you have to understand and be realistic so you still have to have your dreams

[00:16:16] but they have to be realistic based on your capabilities and capacities now here's something

[00:16:23] I will tell you you don't have to be a genius to be a great entrepreneur I've met cats that are

[00:16:29] multi multi-millionaires that are not that that bright they have they have what it takes to be a

[00:16:36] successful entrepreneur here's a real life example when I had my alarm business I actually rented an

[00:16:43] office uh one of my offices was over a mechanics garage nice guy you know regular blue collar guy

[00:16:52] you know didn't seem too bright but he was cool as hell so we start talking and um he tells me

[00:16:58] about his life story and I said well when did you start um you know becoming a mechanic he said well

[00:17:04] I got my first shop about 25 years ago and he said he built those shops out into a uh you know a

[00:17:11] small franchise and uh then what happened was he got approached by Penske like the Penske racing

[00:17:18] team and he actually put shops in all of the walmart's and I forgot a couple state areas so

[00:17:26] he actually had retired he got bored at home he was retired for two years came back and started

[00:17:32] this single shop which I had my my office over and just because he got bored and he even told me he

[00:17:40] said I'm not the smartest dude but I do know cars and I do know customer service and that's how he

[00:17:45] built his chain of auto of auto shops all around the northeast and I forgot what the number that

[00:17:53] he uh sold out to but Penske actually bought all of his uh all of his shops and it was in the

[00:17:59] close to 100 million dollars and this was 25 years ago so you don't have to be a genius but you have

[00:18:05] to know your capabilities but there's nothing wrong with dreaming big guys so today we talked about
