[00:00:00] Welcome to the Ask About My Faith podcast where our hope is to inspire everyday faith
[00:00:08] conversations. I'm Jess.
[00:00:10] And I'm Abby. Today we have the pleasure of sharing the first half of a conversation
[00:00:14] we had with Paul Moore. Paul has had an impressive career from working at Ford Motor Company
[00:00:21] to co-founding a staffing firm where he was a two-time finalist for Michigan Entrepreneur What an honor. Man, I know it's a busy time of year and we're so glad to have you. We wanna start with your own, your personal story of how you came to faith. Would you share that with our listeners? Yeah, I grew up. My grandparents were Christians on one side and my dad was kind of turned away from church as a kid,
[00:01:42] but he still thought it was important.
[00:01:43] So he took us kids to what they called Sunday school And I thought that it just sounded really good. And so I actually, there was no Mormon church in our town. And so I was going to Denver for a summer job. And I told my friends, I said, hey, when I come back from Denver, I plan to be a Mormon.
[00:03:00] And one guy in particular named Jonathan said,
[00:03:05] I think that's a cult. people were using these kind of catchphrases I didn't understand. And so I went home from that thinking, well, I definitely want to be a Mormon, but I definitely want to go back on a different Sunday, not that one. Well, at work the next Monday, the next day, I happened to notice on a guy's wall, he had a religious, as I called it, poster.
[00:04:22] And I said, hey, are do that. I do that. I do that. I do that. And then it said at the end, and these will not inherit the kingdom of God. And I went, at that moment, the Holy Spirit said to me, you're not going to heaven. And I'm the maybe the 80s or 90s that Jesus could be Savior without being Lord because anything more than that would be works and that is just so antithetical to the New Testament you know I mean Jesus
[00:07:02] said if you love me you will obey my commands period and it's all through play before hundreds of students who had known me for years already and saw the change. Oh, that's so fun. Funny how the Lord works, huh? Yeah, that's right. A make-away. So is that your earliest memory of sharing your faith or is there another moment that you got to share your faith early on?
[00:09:41] Yeah, I think I'm thinking of a night. And so it was like 12, 31 in the morning and I knelt down by my bed to read my Bible
[00:09:44] and I could not get this so I think you should test it out. And he said, can I test it out in the morning? Because he had been in such pain. I said, nope, get up. And he did.
[00:11:01] And he was totally healed.
[00:11:02] And so he and I went, and then his roommate, his eyes got really wide and he buried his We had one concert that had four people show up. It was great. And you had a comedian as a party for ACT? Yes, that's right. And we're still friends today too. Oh, I love that. I love this. So I would love for you to speak to this a little bit because I think a lot of our listeners
[00:12:22] might not quite understand that moment when you to me that clearly day in and day out. So it was kind of like that thought, that idea that you couldn't get out of your mind. It just was taking all-consuming, taking everything. Yeah.
[00:13:40] Okay.
[00:13:41] Yeah, I think it probably took that for be saved. Well, about a month ago, probably the same week I first spoke to you Jess, we got news that he just one day she got home from work and his wedding ring was on the counter and
[00:15:00] he had left taking all his clothes and personal stuff, packed up and left.
[00:15:05] And it's so, I'm going to try to get it, do it the best I can. He said, if you care about other people, you'll tell them the truth, or at least what you believe to be the truth. If you care about yourself, you'll tell them what they want to hear. Yeah. Wow. And I just had to come to that point with my sister and where I did. And I just went after them really hard. I was like, hey, you're not a Christian. What do you know, what are you doing? And I think I was pretty, you know, strong. And I think it was probably honestly appropriate in retrospect, God said, you know what, Paul, you're going to be the one. You're going to be the one in your family that changes eternity for some of them. Yeah. And I would say, yeah, there was only, out of like eight cousins, there was only
[00:19:02] two of us who received Christ, but our grandparents, and hopefully my sister's a third, but my person to connect with. I feel like I can understand why people would be curious or be willing to have these interactions with you when they meet you. Your neighbor is someone that it sounds like you must be fairly close with because it sounds like she asked you to share with someone she knew. Is that right? Tell us a little more about that situation.
[00:20:21] Yeah, we have a neighbor who we've gotten to know just a little over the last year and I invited him to go to Bible study fellowship, and I had never been before, but I knew they were starting a new semester and I thought, well, he lives kind of far out, not really close to here. He's probably not going to go to our church, but this Bible study fellowship is halfway between where I live and he lives, and maybe he'll come meet me there.
[00:21:42] And he did, and I actually only went to follow Christ. So he came. I prayed with him and he, every time I see him since then, he's been so happy and telling me he was so grateful that I point him to Jesus.
[00:23:06] Wow.
