Ena Lucia has also contributed her expertise on the ground as a volunteer with non-governmental organizations operating in trafficking hotspots. During her time at the Canadian Parliament, she developed a data-tracking system that supported the drafting and passage of Bill C-310, strengthening Canada’s human trafficking legislation. Her research has also been used to inform the development of new bills, and “An Act to Amend the Criminal Code (Trafficking in Persons),” presented before the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights. An experienced trainer and international speaker, Ena Lucia has presented her research at global conferences and at the United Nations. She is a published researcher, with her work featured in Child Abuse & Neglect journal’s special issue on boys. She also co-led the first international conference dedicated to violence against men and boys.
She is currently preparing forthcoming research publications that further explore child sexual exploitation, trafficking, and the often-overlooked experiences of male survivors, with a continued commitment to advancing survivor-informed policy, protection, and prevention.
