Andrew Steier describes them as both prescriptive and descriptive.
They show us kingdom qualities to pursue here and now—and give us a glimpse of what God's heart is for His people.
And Jesus didn't simply teach these qualities.
He lived them.
Humility. Mercy. Meekness. A hunger for righteousness. Peacemaking.
Later in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches us to pray, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
What if the Beatitudes help us understand what that kingdom life can look like?
