What Is My End Goal?

Before you react, pause long enough to ask: “What am I actually trying to accomplish here?”

Your child pushes the right button.
A coworker frustrates you.
Someone makes the same mistake again.

And suddenly, it’s really easy to let frustration choose our words for us. 😅

But Jody Hill offers a different approach: pause and remember the end goal.

If your goal is to help your child grow, what could you say that teaches instead of tears down?

If your goal is to lead someone well, what words could offer guidance instead of simply communicating frustration?

The goal isn’t to pretend the problem doesn’t exist. It’s to respond in a way that actually moves the relationship toward where you want it to go.

Our words can crush—or they can help someone grow.

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is pause long enough to choose them well. 💛
