Why Is It So Hard for Us to Trust God?

Trusting God sounds easy and straightforward until life gets complicated. We know the Bible calls us to trust Him, but when stress, grief, or life starts lifing - it can be a major challenge .

Why Do We Struggle to Trust God?

  1. Stress, trauma, and grief can pull our focus away from GOD and onto our problems. It’s like trying to hear someone talk in a noisy room—our circumstances often drown out GOD’s voice. But the Bible reminds us to focus on Him:

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.

Listen to God’s wisdom, not our limited perspective. Trusting God isn’t about ignoring reality; it’s about believing He sees the bigger picture we can’t.

  1. We Want Control
Let’s be real—we like to be in charge. But trusting God means surrendering the steering wheel, even when we don’t understand where He’s taking us.

    Jeremiah 17:7

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord.

Trust isn’t about knowing the plan—it’s about knowing the Planner.

  2. Our Limited Understanding

It's hard to understand how suffering fits into God's plan, especially when things are difficult and we expect things to be the opposite in that moment. When we’re in the middle of a tough situation, it’s easy to forget all the ways GOD has come through for us before.

    Practical Ways to Trust God
    • Pray and Seek His Will: Bring your worries and decisions to GOD in prayer (Philippians 4:6-7).

    • Meditate on Scripture: Strengthen your faith by reading and meditating on God’s promises.

    • Surrender Control: Trusting God means letting go of our need to control outcomes.

    • Remember His Faithfulness: Reflect on past instances where God has been faithful in your life.

Think of trusting God like assembling a giant LEGO set without the picture on the box. You’ve got all the pieces, but you’re not sure what the final product will look like. Trusting God means believing He has the blueprint, even when we’re staring at a pile of seemingly random bricks.

      Let’s Pray. Dear Heavenly Father,
Give us the strength to not be overwhelmed with life's challenges. Teach us to trust You completely, to commit our plans to You, and to remember Your faithfulness in every season. Help us surrender control and walk in confidence, knowing You are always working for our good. Thank You for being a GOD who is trustworthy and true. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
